I have eaten several salads from the Novato Blue Barn and have been very satisfied with the quality of ingredients and flavors.

Interesting they're known for fresh sandwiches and salads, but I think they have the best burger in town. It's a big juicy patty that comes on a potato roll of some kind? It's a lot better than 5 guys but similar made to order, very fresh quality. Their giant salads never disappoint either. Have been many times. It's always consistent and the dining area is really nice with lots of outdoor seating in the backyard too. read more

I kept hearing that this place was delicious and finally stopped by to get a bite. Our group got 2 sandwiches and a salad. OMG we all agreed that this place has some of the yummiest of food. The Thai chicken salad was my favorite thing we got. I can't wait to come back and eat here again. Maybe I'll swing by next week and we'll have this for dinner. Lol read more

The thai chicken salad is vegan if you remove the Thai chicken. You can also add tofu too. You have to pay extra for the tofu and don't get any money off for removing the chicken which I think is not cool and the price keeps me from going as much I would like. read more

The food is excellent here, great quality but the customer service needs major improvement. My last visit, I went with my daughter , and placed an order for four people, between the sandwiches, and salads we had a bill for almost $85. It was dinner time, and we were the only ones at the restaurant. There were two helpers, one was managing the cash register and a young lady was handing the orders out. When the buzzer went off, and I went to hand it to the young lady, she looked at me, and told me "you see there, there is a basket, you put it there". I have left the buzzer on the counter, basically gave it to her. First, her comment didn't register, but as I was walking away with the food, I heard both employees laughing and making comments about she telling me to follow her instructions. I turned around, and asked her what was the purpose of her unfriendly behavior, did it make her feel important or maybe she thought she was ridiculing me? As much as I like the food, I won't be visiting the restaurant or ordering food to go. There are many places where nice employees are happy to help local customers. Talking with my family a few weeks ago, they were telling me that my great auntie went to order fries around 6:30 - 7:00 pm, and although the restaurant was still open, they had already cleaned the fryer and they weren't doing fries at that time. Well, if they clean up the kitchen early, then, they should put the closed sign and be done for the day, no need to be rude. read more

Beautiful spacious outdoor space--it's a large patio in the back. Delicious juicy chicken tenders using Mary's Chicken that I dipped into the truffle cream sauce that came with the Tater tots. It was so good. Many types of salad. I enjoyed my kale Caesar which was quite large and filling. The soft serve is also too notch--not too sweet and tastes super fresh. Hard kombucha, kombucha on tap, and wines beers available. A whole kids menu too. This place is great for families. Kids all over the place and so cute and fun to watch. The patio Space has a small garden and a small stage too. I'm so glad I discovered blue barn here and found out there's a few more locations in the city! read more

I was avoiding this place like the plague. All I ever kept hearing about was how expensive it was I decided to go one day because I was getting my hair done and my stylist asked me to pick up a salad for her. I said I would and asked her to order me a sandwich while she was at it. I walked over to blue barn with not much hope and $20 because I figured that's how much my sandwich would be. It ran about $15 but I would've paid $30 for it! I know there are other yelpers out there that will freak out because I'm saying I'd pay more than the outrageous prices, but this was such a gourmet sandwich that I went back the next night for dinner with my guy and ordered it again. The place is clean and shiny and new. The staff is very friendly. Lots of places to sit! The truffle was turkey with brie cheese, pickles onions, and spring mix. It is a taste sensation! My guy had the "Clubber" and he loved that as it was like a club sandwich on this fantastic Ciabatta bread. Run don't walk to this establishment and don't worry about the price. These sandwiches are top tier, probably the best food I've had in Novato! The sandwiches have really unique flavors, taking classic sandwich combinations up a notch. For example, the buffalo chicken sando has a carrot slaw on top of it, which was amazingly delicious and really light and refreshing. The quality of the meat is visibly good and I noted on their menu that they specifically noted their bacon provider as Niman Ranch, which after a quick Google search, I found is a high quality, local, and sustainably sourced provider. My only complaint is the average sandwich price is around $13-$15. Definitely not an affordable everyday option, but really tasty and I look forward to going back and trying some more of their sandwiches. read more

Great organization and covid protocols. Strict adherence to a takeout policy, even though some people were pushing it by trying to eat near the store. Kudos for enforcement because it keeps them open and everyone safer. The food was great, as always! I think it is worth the money for great quality and delicious combinations. We have been looking forward to this restaurant opening. Our first visit, the food and atmosphere looked inviting (albeit expensive) The food tasted good, but the sandwiches are not worth $14, and my child's 3 chicken nuggets were definitely not worth the $6.75! We spent more on our lunch, than we normally would, and will consider our options on our next lunch outing. I had high expectations for this place because it is so popular in the bay area. All of the items ordered were disappointing. The spicy tuna in the spicy tuna salad was texturally so gross we couldn't eat it. It was a gooey, jelly consistency with little flavor. The salad itself was good but paying $19 for a huge bowl of seasoned lettuce isn't ideal. The kid's turkey sandwich had an off-taste as well; I think it was the aioli. It tasted a little fishy for a kid. The turkey was really good, though. It tasted more like ham. I wasn't impressed with the $4 rice krispie treat, either. This place is so close to five stars it bothers me that they just can't seem to fix small issues that are so bothersome. The salads are really good and reasonably priced ($14ish including protein) for the quality and size. Why are the UPick salads so expensive ($14 + $5 or more for protein)? The sandwiches are excellent, particularly the BLT. But the ciabatta roll offered on many is too chewy and hard. They have excellent beer and specialty cocktails that we really like. But they serve them in plastic cups and my beer was warm half way thru my meal on a hot day, a chilled glass would have been really appreciated. But the real issue today has to do with Covid cleanliness or lack there of. Everything is served in disposable containers and people are bussing their tables when finished, but we have seen many many times where this leads to people sitting at tables that have not been actually cleaned. This is a huge issue at this restaurant because we have seen it happen so many times. Last time I purposely left my table a little messy on purpose to signify it wasn't clean to others. read more

Food is wonderful but the tipping is insulting. They take your order at their counter after you read the menu on the wall. You pay the machine. It immediately asks for a tip. You haven't got your food yet. You pay by yourself. You get your own silverware and napkins. You don't know if you will get your food in a reasonable time, you live on an area that pays " a living wage" . But the tip is the biggest part of the transaction. A real turn off. read more

Gourmet sandwiches and salads, wine/beer/liquor, and Double 8 Dairy water buffalo soft serve ice cream! I had a steak sandwich, and my wife had the BLT with goat cheese, which was really delicious. My children had chicken tenders and fries; the tenders were really good, and the fries were also good (and a pretty large quantity). Definitely get a kids' cone of vanilla soft serve from Double 8 Dairy, which has a herd of water buffalo. Silkier than regular cow milk ice cream, it's a distinct treat. (I've actually been on a multi-year mission to track down their gelato-style ice cream somewhere, but I've only been able to get my hands on it at events at the Stemple Creek Ranch.) A great addition to Novato's Grant Avenue, we'll definitely be back. read more

One of the best sandwiches that I've had in a long time- the truffle sandwich was filling and delicious. We also ordered fries on the side that were perfect. Atmosphere is clean and inviting. Excited to go back. Could improve: -seating; we ordered at the counter then had to spend a while awkwardly staring down people who were sittIng at their tables after they were done eating. Delicious. My wife and I ordered for ourselves and a few friends. I ordered the truffle sando.. holy crap, I could have eaten 2 of them!! Soooo good. Witj the brie cheese inside, I just can't even explain how good it was!! Everything tasted super fresh. The customer service was also excellent. I enjoyed speaking to the lady who sold me my sando and everyone else was really nice as well. I stayed for an draft IPA while my order was being prepared. I went here with a friend for lunch today- we actually wanted to go to Grazies down the street but they had just closed for the afternoon. We walked in and it was a cold, unfriendly atmosphere- the decor was bleak and colorless- and there were 4 young women behind the counter and no one even said hello (we were the only customers in the place). They have a large menu offering lots of salads and sandwiches (but I can't eat wheat so I only paid attention to the salads)- and many of them have the exact same name as at Grazies, as if they're copying their selections. I'm gluten free so I had to ask whether certain salads have gluten or not. I ended up ordering the Casbah Salad. We had to order at the counter then take a buzzer to the table to be notified when our door was ready. When we got our food it came on metal trays that looked like hospital trays, in a paper bowl and we had to use flimsy plastic forks to eat with. The salad was insulting- it was 99% spring greens with shredded carrots, some pickled onions, feta cheese that was teeny tiny sprinkles that tasted like nothing, and exactly 4 crispy garbanzo beans and 3 pistachios. I was surprised when I found them - they were in the bottom of the bowl because no one had bothered to toss my salad- instead everything was in one big clump. At $14.25 (it came to $18 with a 10%tip!!) it was insulting to pay that much for something so tasteless, poorly prepared and on too of it, that I had to order at a counter, pick up myself and use plastic utensils to eat with and bus my own dishes (if you can call a paper bowl a dish...)! I had automatically given them a 10% tip (I'd normally give more but they were so unfriendly they didn't deserve anything!) but I wish I could take it back- the staff was unfriendly, had a bad attitude (until we left and the young woman who seemed to be in charge attempted to be friendly). I make salads at home all the time so I know what went into this one and it was worth about $2. They have a large outdoor seating area in the back- (that's why I have it 1 star) that's just about the only good thing I can say about this place. They were blasting loud music inside and out- and it was totally non-conducive to hearing anything anyone said, including the staff. My friend and I will NEVER go back there. I know it's the pandemic- I have a daughter in the restaurant industry- and normally I want to support local businesses and servers but this place is just a total rip off. I work in downtown Novato so having Blue Barn in the area is a nice addition and a welcomed change from the usual options that I've quickly become tired of. First of all, the salads are HUGE. If you're on a health kick and want to feel like you're kicking off your new year to a good start, this option will set you on the right track. I had the Thai Chicken salad which was delish. The one slice of baguette that comes with the salad was enough to tease me into wanting more carbs but the large salad portion reeled me back in reminding me to stick to my NY resolution of eating healthier. The second time I went I tried the Skirt sandwich (yes my NY resolution did not last a month but it was worth the sacrifice)...I'm on a mission to sample the menu offerings so I can report back for the sake of the greater population (my good deed resolution). Next time I go I will try the burger and fries so stay tuned for my feedback. Aside from the great food, the ambiance is great. Great customer service too! Such an improvement to the old Mary's establishment that was there before. Definitely recommend. read more

The sandwiches here are really, really good! You can tell the quality of the ingredients and well, you get what you pay for. The steak is particularly delicious and my friend said that his fried chicken was good too. The fries are delicious and well seasoned. Have been here twice and am looking forward to the next time.. This location has a particularly amazing outdoor patio and they advertise live music too on some nights.
