Craved some China today so I ordered the classic dishes: - General Tso's Chicken with white rice (large) - Beef Chow Fun (small) - Vegetable Lo Mein (small) The wait time was around 15 minutes which wasn't too bad. Keep in mind the workers are all Chinese so their English isn't really good and I had to repeat myself a few times for them to understand. This place is a standard Chinese takeout place which prior to the management change carrying a B rating from the health department of New York City. It has been a local favorite for years, but when the management change took over, I had some wonton soup there that made me sick for the first time I stopped eating there. even before the management change, the food is a standard Chinese takeout place quality they use too much sugar and too much garlic and onion. Probably some of the worst Chinese takeout we've had in a while. Broccoli was not fresh, brown rice was mushy but the standout for the epic culinary failure was the boneless ribs. There was no sauce (which is actually a glaze). Boneless ribs are typically made with love, put under the broiler,glazed and then broiled again, only to be finished with yet another coating of the glaze. I have only been here a few times, but I am always satisfied with the food. The chicken lo mein, the double sauteed pork and the beef and broccoli always hit the spot. The place literally is like a dive, if you're not careful you can easily miss it on Horace Harding Expressway. Just use the McDonalds as a reference since "Imperial Taste" is only a few stores from it. Oh yeah, the restaurant is called "Imperial Taste" NOT "Imperial Wok" Semantics I know,forgive me. Been eating here for over 20 years and was friendly with the Owner Mr.Lee and his wife as usually the food is great. Not tonight as he give me rotten smelling chicken in my chicken lo mein to go order. My Wife and I smell the meat and it smells unwashed like from a freshly killed chicken with a livestock odor not pleasant at all and strong. I bring it back and he make another fresh order jut with same meat and it smells bad again. He looks at me like I'm not telling the truth. He even show me the tin of chicken he was taking meat from and I smell it and say this meat is bad. He say how's it supposed to smell and I say it's supposed to have no smell. I bring it home and my wife and I just can't make ourselves eat it so I bring back again. When did this place change from Imperial Wok to Imperial Taste? Almost had trouble finding it on Yelp. I've been getting my chinese food here for years and it's never disappointed. I always get the same two things: general tso's & the fried chicken wings. I've also tried their chicken & broccoli, lo mein, and other things, but those are two I keep going back to. Their food is very tasty, the inside is just like any other chinese food place, but it's cash only! Sometimes when I would order over the phone, the lady would mishear me so I prefer ordering in person. And there have been a time that the lady gave me the wrong order. Nonetheless, I will still come back. When I ordered today, she gave me a free coke & fanta, which was great! When the young lady takes my order she gives me small rice and 2 cans soda. Today I ordered large sesame chicken and small beef w broccoli and the menu and receipt says $20.14 but she charges me $20.40. Yes service can be at times curt and I won't lie - I wasn't a fan at first! But after giving in to those Chinese food cravings multiple times throughout my life, I've come to actually appreciate and welcome the curtness here! However, it's a takeout so I don't care; I just yell back. The shrimp with lobster sauce is very tasty and the sauce is not too goopy. Hot and sour soup is surprisingly very good. The best though is the chicken and broccoli, order it with garlic sauce and ask for spicy. FYI, this only comes in a large order. This is BANGING. I never get chicken and broccoli but I needed to try based on other reviews. The first two times I ordered, I didn't think it was all that. Third time is a charm. I crave this on a weekly basis. Not sure of the real name for this place. I recently started getting lunch here and I noticed they overcharged on tax, a petty crime. Food is nothing special. I gave them a chance because they are close to my house. I ordered a shrimp with broccoli lunch special a $7.00 cost I was charged $7.89 and if you want a can of soda it's an additional $1.25 Good luck buying here and keep an eye on the charge. read more
