I came here with my family for a birthday breakfast. Off the bat, the service was great. She took all our drink orders and quickly returned to take our food orders. She was very attentive throughout the whole dine in experience. Their coffee was strong which is always a plus. I ordered two eggs over easy with well done bacon and toast on the side. I also ordered a side of French toast. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the bacon was very crispy. The French toast was nothing very impressive, I have had better French toast in other diners. We ordered an order of mozzarella sticks to start and a chicken souvlaki platter and chipotle bacon burger with sweet potato fries as our mains. I had an appointment with my cardiologist in March when Covid hit, so it got cancelled and finally rescheduled to his Whitestone Office yesterday. After finally finding non metered parking in the neighborhood (that took a few minutes), I spied this place while walking to his office. After my examination, where my pulse, blood oxygen, blood pressure and EKG all came back aces, I of course decided to stop at the diner to celebrate with a heart attack special, The French Toast Lumberjack. Due to Covid, they have outdoor seating in their quite spacious backyard. Service was attentive and the French Toast Lumberjack was delicious. Incompetent idiots run this place. We ordered dinner about an hour ago. I asked my wife to order me a pizza burger with no lettuce or tomato. I know lettuce and tomato doesn't normally go on pizza burgers, but people who run diners are barely smarter that Carny folk, and I wouldn't order a burger from a guy running a cotton candy machine or Tilt A Whirl. My wife even commented that lettuce and tomato aren't served with Pizza Burgers. I asked her to humor me, because I've dealt with idiots before and she complied. When she relayed the message, no lettuce and tomato, she was met with, "lettuce and tomato doesn't come with a Pizza Burger". My wife asked for the total, so we could add the tip, the moron couldn't figure it out and had to call me back. He called back, $41.00, I said add $15.00 tip. My wife asked why I'd add almost 50% for a burger and spinach pie, I said, when I order, I want it done right. 15 minutes later, the burger arrived WITH LETTUCE AND TOMATO. This place is a joke. When I called to complain, the arrogant asshole acted as though I was wrong and hung up on me. When I called back they told me to dispute the charge with my bank. I just tried, but the charge is pending and I can't dispute it until tomorrow, which I will. Overall, we've been coming here for years, but it's always after we've run out of options. I try to stay away from potatoes. They lay heavy. Fried to death, so I order two eggs and bacon, and ask them to 86 the potatoes and sub veg. I've done this at what feels like 100 different diners before. Waiter made no mention of an up charge at all. There was an upcharge. A VERY large one. This was predatory. This was deceptive. I will not be back again, and I suggest that if you decide to eat here, you should absolutely ask about upcharges yourself before getting surprised. I absolutely cannot recommend. Came here with my family for Mother's Day Breakfast. A lot of places that serve eggs are not open surprisingly earlier in the morning but this place was. I would give this place 3.5 stars if possible, but the service has to make me round down. Pros: The pre meal bread is some kind of muffin and they were amazing. The food was pretty good and comes in large portions. I got the corned beef hash and it was quite tasty, although the hash browns were just so so in my opinion. Besides our own server, everyone else was friendly and nice. Cons: Their homemade jam just seems like watered down versions of actual jams. Our own server was never there to help us, though we were able to ask for extra coffee / other things from the other servers in the area. Hash browns were a little bland. Found this place from visiting a local nursing / rehab facility in the area. Good to fair service and food, but recently went on a Sun am for breakfast and ordered a combo special with a side dish. The waitress, broke my order up into individual pieces and charged me for each dish, 3x the cost. I love this cute tiny diner! I kept driving by this place until finally I was like I need to try it. This place although a diner it doesn't have that gross diner feel . It's super clean and the menu is just enough to not make you turned off. The waiting service is kind and prompt. Once your coffee and tea are served they brought these little complimentary muffins with homemade marmalade that is pretty tasty. The breakfast was great. The eggs we're made properly to my liking and the home fries are tasty as well. Not dry. The bacon was great also. It wasn't the thin and cheap type. I enjoy this little gem. Thankfully I've never had a bad experience and will continue to go. The only thing that is a downfall is the parking. The parking is metered so that is a bit annoying. I no longer live in NY and my new hometown in the south doesn't have diners. So whenever visiting NY I love eating at a traditional Greek diner. Was in town today and stumbled upon this place and decided to try it. The experience was wonderful. The Chicken Souvlaki platter was out of this world. The amount of food was huge! The chicken was seasoned to perfection, the rice and Greek salad that accompanied it was superb. It was one of the best meals I've had. I recently came & tried their avocado toast .. amazing! It comes with 2 slices of toast topped with a fried egg, ton of avocado, onions & tomatoes plus a side of home fries. If you get it from their brunch menu it comes with a mimosa, fruit salad or orange juice & coffee or tea. I had to dock one star because the home fries weren't that great imo as compared to other diners I've been to. I usually never write bad reviews, but enough is enough! I have ordered from this diner many times and the OWNER is sooooo rude! The first time he was rude I placed an order that took forever to come and when he got to the door he told me in the future to NOT order past 6:00 p.m. because he "wanted to get home to his family and that he has other orders". Meanwhile, the diner closes at 10pm! Clearly, he doesn't appreciate business! I still gave him the benefit of the doubt and figured he was just having a bad day. Unfortunately, the next two times I ordered he continued to have a poor attitude and speak to me in a disrespectful way! This morning, I placed an order at 11 a.m. and it did not come until 1:15 p.m. He called me because he did not know how to get into my building. As I tried to talk and explain it to him he literally interrupted me, yelIed at me to "OPEN THE DOOR". I am appalled and do not deserve to be treated in this way. The food is overpriced, has been cold, and has taken 1 and a half to 2 hours every time I have placed an order. The Whitestone diner is nicely tucked away off 14th Ave and the inside of the diner surprised me as it was much nicer inside than the outside looks. My friend kept telling me how he was craving an everything bagel and lox and luckily we found this place! After looking at the menu I ordered a California omelette (avocado, Monterey cheese, tomato) with bacon on side, Spinach veggies (substitute) and Wheat toast. I also ordered their house Coffee. My friend ordered the Everything bagel and lox with a Large OJ. Our food came out within 10 minutes of ordering and soon we were chowing down. Except, we both thought our food was just OK. The California omelette tasted very bland and was softer than I expected so I asked for hot sauce and put some pepper on top, but it didn't really make a big difference. I do like how they have "healthy" side options like spinach. Besides the omelette and everything bagel and lox everything else tasted good but we were a bit disappointed since those were our main dishes. Our bill came out to be over $50 after tax and tip which really surprised me as we have been to other places that tasted better and also wasn't as heavily priced. It's really obscene. -----------------previous review------ The food here is good standard diner food. I don't normally even look at price but I have to say that the prices here are shocking. I ordered an egg white and veggie omelette wrap and it was $15 dollars because the guy said they had to "assemble it piece by piece since it wasn't on the menu". I had a strange experience here. I walked in around 12 on a week day solo. I had a meeting in the area and was starving after. Walking in it appeared the place was empty. There is no counter so I asked for a table. I ordered the Nova Scotia eggs Benedict but asked if I could get some salad instead of potatoes. I never eat the potatoes. I was told it would be an extra charge. Ok who cares. food comes and here's what I get. Luke warm poached eggs and Hollandase sauce. The salad lol..... Considering the price point, I would expect this diner to be much better. The food is generally not seasoned properly. For example, I have to often add salt and pepper to my home fries or use ketchup (proof of lack of balance) The pancakes here are OK and the french toast is pretty terrible. I expect more custardy consistency from my french toast. The coffee is pretty moldy (look up the coffee tasters wheel) and oxidized. The one redeeming quality is the mini muffins. I would come just to eat the mini muffins every breakfast. I would look elsewhere. read more
