I definitely love Blue Bell that I needed a tour of the place and went with my brother. anyways the ice cream is cheap for a scoop and it is only $1 too bad though they did not offer anything elese to drink however. i heard they are expanding to AZ which would be really nice and hopefully they will be in california. the tour was really nice as we saw how they make ice cream and all the flavors they had. Good advertising on their part. But everything was reasonably priced out for the gifts, but I did not get any. read more

$1 ice cream "scoops"?!?! Their "scoop" filled the whole cup. Going here is every Texan's dream. Even though they had stopped giving tours, it was still a really nice stop on the way from Houston to Austin. There's a little visitors center where you can see old Blue bell memorabilia and take some photos. At the ice cream parlor you can choose between 15 flavors for $1 scoop. Some of the flavors weren't sold in stores either! There's a little gift shop for everything Blue bell themed. Everyone in this part of Texas knows Blue Bell by heart, grew up with Blue Bell, ate Blue Bell all their life, fed it to their kids, etc., yet so many people have not yet gone to the actual Blue Bell Factory! If you are a Blue Bell fan or just happen to be in the Hill Country, B/CS, or Brenham area, this is a MUST SEE, MUST DO. Do not miss this tour! Put it on your bucket list! Tickets are $6 and can be purchased online (they recommend purchasing tickets online 2 days ahead). The tours are only open Monday-Friday, morning till 3 pm. The tour is very enlightening, the tour guide ladies are always so sweet, and the workers we see throughout the tour seem nice too. Some workers waved at us and I waved back. You can tell the workers are not unhappy doing their job. Everything is clean and efficient. It's a 45-minute tour that takes you through the factory where you learn about the history of Blue Bell, how all Blue Bell's ice creams are made at this ONE SITE (minus another item which I won't divulge so you can learn on the tour) starting with milk all to the way to packaging. You see all the ice cream pints, 1/2 gallons, and shop bin size ice creams are made, as well as the bars and ice cream sandwiches. You conclude the tour with a free scoop at the Blue Bell shop. The scoop is generous and the eating area is spacious and bright. The store has cute items, a bit overpriced, but that is too be expected at a souvenir shop. Went with my housemates on a Tuesday afternoon - we were super worried that the traffic coming from Houston would prevent us from getting in on time, so we called and the Blue Bell staff were friendly enough to let us know that as long as we made it before they closed, we could still get a tour. Nice! They give you these cute paper hats to wear and there's tons of fun statues outside to take ridiculous pictures with. Tour was kind of boring, as the tourguide was super apathetic and monotone/obviously not as excited about icecream as we were, but it was interesting seeing how the factory worked AND getting "free" (with the admission cost) ice cream at the end of the tour! If you're nice and indecisive, you can ask for 2 different flavors :) I probably wouldn't come if the drive was over an hour...also, I'd recommend going on a day when wineries/lavender farms/other touristy spots in the area are open since the icecream tour isn't that long. read more

We were headed back to Houston and how convenient that we have to drive through Brenham to get home! It is National Ice Cream month after all! Blue Bell debuts a new flavor every July, and this month it's, "Magic Cookie Bar" - crumbled graham crackers, chocolate chips, coconut flakes, sweet condensed milk with pecans. Best ice cream place I will ever need to go to. I went here expecting a lame tour with long boring speeches but blue bell surprised me. Instead we went on a self guided tour of the creamery where we got to see firsthand what workers were making and how everything ran. Afterwards we went to the ice cream parlor where they served 1 dollar scoops of ice cream. And to be fair you need to watch out how much you eat because it can stack up fairly quickly. In fact I probably got type 20 diabetes just from trying multiples flavors. But when all is said and done blue bell wasn't shy with letting us have their Ice cream and I wasn't disappointed. Blue Bell Creameries was our next stop of our Texas trip. We were a little bit late for the tour, so we decided to hang around and try their ice cream instead. While going through the many selections of blue bell ice cream (BBIC), they had 2 new flavors (with no name) that caught my eyes. So being adventurous, I asked for a scoop of this new flavor. 1$!!! for a big scoop and it was turtle, caramel, with hazelnut vanilla ice cream or some sort... It was delicious and not too creamy. Well it was unfortunate for me that I tasted some ice chips inside my ice cream, which was a big no-no for my taste. Good flavor. Came here on a Saturday and found out they don't do tours on Saturdays. It was a bummer and I should have known based on how empty the parking lot was. However, a good time was still had as the facilities were open including the ice cream parlor and gift shop, and you still get the hat, which the kids love. At $1 per scoop, this was a good chance to try flavors without having to buy the whole tub. The decor of the parlor is very cute, complete with sample cases featuring all of their products. I had no idea they made half the stuff they did. Outside, the grounds are nice to wander around in and to snap a few pictures. Next time, we'll have to do the tour for sure! read more

Really enjoyed this Texas treasure. Blue Bell is an iconic Southern brand like Chik Fil A and their ice cream is so good. The only thing I didn't like was that people were cutting in line when in the parlor and the employees were helping people out of order. They need to set up a cordon or something so there is some order and people's feelings are not hurt by being passed over. Especially since there was abundant diversity in the visitors if not the staff and some people were being served before others in a way that gave me pause. read more

Fun visit, watched from the observation deck and learned a bunch while picking the brain of the very informed staff on the observation deck, she was fun and easy to ask many questions to, she added an extra level of fun to our educational observation of the ice cream being made! We stopped by the gift shop and enjoyed getting super cute shirts! My kids loved the "I get cranky without my Blue Bell" t-shirts, which had a hand crank on top of a 1/2 gallon of ice cream photo. I took a day trip Blue Bell Creamery located in Brenham, Texas, just a short hour drive from Houston. I arrived one year too late to enjoy the Blue Bell tour. Apparently there was a recall on ice cream and the company went under a restructuring phase. I was greeted at the reception, running in from the rainy day into a very cold lobby. The receptionist said they no longer have any tours, but I am welcome to roam around, look at the historical pictures, watch a video, grab a few Blue Bell Creamery paper hats and walk into the garden area where they have one of the original Blue Bell Creamery delivery trucks. After I'm done there I could visit the building next-door and grab some ice cream and check out the memorabilia store. After taking a picture with The Blue Bell truck I dodged through the rain to grab some ice cream. Entering this building there was a cute barn painted on the wall with the doors accessing the elevator. I took the stairs, admired more pictures, went to the counter, and order a Mocha Fudge Almond scoop of ice cream. It is delicious! I could've ended the tour right here and drove back. Instead I had a taste of Pistachio Almond (green ice cream), Rocky Road, and some very sweet Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. My taste buds came alive with each scoop! My favorite? I lean on the chocolate and coffee flavors, so if your into that go with the Mocha Almond Fudge. Yummy! The scoops are a dollar. This alone is worth the trip to get out and do something relaxing and fun. If you decide to visit, remember to grab the paper hats, take pics with the truck and of course take your dollars and grab some ice creams. read more

If you're coming home from Austin to Houston..I recommend making a pit stop. The tour was quite a learning experience. It was so much & learned so much! It was kinda cool to have that feeling like you're in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. After the tour, you get to taste the Flavors of the day. There was 32 when I went. You can sample the ones to try. The first scoop of ice cream is free or you can choose a second flavor but it won't be a full scoop, more like a big sample on top of your choice of scoop. Additional scoops are $1. The gift shop is neat, they sell blue bell containers you can use to wrap gifts in. Also a good cheap souvenir! Did I mention the staff are super duper nice!! While living in New Orleans, I became hooked on Blue Bell. It really is the best ice cream in the country! Since moving to Chicago, my wife and I have been looking forward to our next fix! Luckily, she is from Houston! After hitting up a gas station on Christmas Eve to buy a few pints, we decided to take a family trip to the nearby creamery in Brenham. I had no idea that Blue Bell Creameries was located so close to Houston! Check the website for the tour schedule to make sure they are open the day you are headed out there. We arrived close to the lunch hour in between scheduled tour times. Due to the demand of the day, they added a few extra tours. The tour is $5 for adults and $3 or free for children depending on age. The 30 minute tour starts out with a corny movie, but is quickly followed by a walking tour of the operation. It was intersting to see how the wonderful product is made. The last stop is the best one. You receive a generous scoop of ice cream after choosing amongst 20 or so flavors. Of course if you are like me...one scoop is not enough. Additional scoops are a great value at only $1. The creamery also has a great store with a lot of reasonably priced souvenirs. Overall, I had an excellent experience. Ahhhh to feel like a kid again! This was our first trip together to the bluebell factory. I have been here before when I was a child in elementary school but this is my first time coming back as an adult and my wife's first time coming ever. Upon entering the factory we were immediately reminded of what it was to be a kid in the excitement of knowing how bluebells world-famous ice cream was created. They give tours Monday through Friday only and the tours run about every 10 to 15 minutes and tickets were only $5 dollars for adults and we took a journey throughout the entire Bluebell ice cream making process. Plus they give you a free scoop of over 16 flavors of their signature ice cream so We will definitely be back. Great place for the Kids. read more

The Blue Bell factory tour is only available during the weekday. During the tour, you get to learn the process of how ice cream is made and packed up. Although machines have made it easier, you get to see that it still requires human labor to keep the assembly line running smoothly, whether it be operating buttons on the machine, opening boxes, checking for broken cones, or refilling carton dispensers. At the end of the tour, you get a small scoop of ice cream. There's a nice outdoor area in the front. The ice cream parlour and gift shop are on the second floor. We were in the area and a local told us to go and visit the Blue Bell Creamery. This place has a beautiful exterior and their grounds are well kept. By the amount of people, you would think it was like being in Hersey Town. To our surprise, it is just a very small museum in the visitor center and a tiny baseball museum where they sell ice cream upstairs. Upstairs, they had HUGE lines for ice cream, they had a store and a tour. The tour is free and you can't take pictures or videos. Their factory tours is just looking through a window and seeing workers packing ice cream. Our advise is don't go out of your way to come and visit. read more

So happy we were able to make this a family outing destination! They do not have the tours right now but they do offer a self guided tour and they have an observation deck of one of their workrooms. It is so fun to stand up there and look out of the glass to see all of the machines filling the different containers with yummy goodness! Our boys are 10 and loved every second of it! The gift shop has a lot of cute items and some low priced options for little ones to have a keepsake. The ice cream they offer is $1 a scoop and it is a huge scoop! There were 16 different flavors to choose from the day we went and it's always changing. We had so much fun walking around the visitors center and checking out the history of Blue Bell. The paper hats are great too! There is no charge for the visitors center and observation deck. Just the $1 scoops of ice cream! I hadn't been to the little creamery in Brenham since I was a kid, and I had fond memories of the big scoop of ice cream at the end. The tour is something I recommend to do at least once. It's a great day trip for school-aged kids during the summer. The creamery is open weekdays only, costs $5, and includes a brief movie in a small theatre about the history of Bluebell, a tour of the plant, and ends at the ice cream parlor and gift shop. I think they are revamping some things, because instead of the movie being shown in the theater at the beginning, it was shown on a small TV in a room as you are exiting the ice cream parlor. The quality of the tour is largely dependent on the knowledge and personality of the guides. Our tour was led by two cute but lackluster college-aged girls. My companion was a mechanical engineer who can get really passionate about things like tools, machines, and manufacturing processes. I could tell he was holding back asking his burning questions about those things so as not to put the girls on the spot. The tour seemed shorter than the allotted 30 minutes, so after we got our ice cream we watched the movie and then proceeded to the grounds to take a couple of pictures. Class act all the way! We were headed to Austin this weekend when we had the brilliant idea. If we were going to make a restroom stop, it should be at Blue Bell. This was my first visit and my ice cream obsessed husband's second. They had a gazillion different flavors and were all too eager to let you sample anyone you glanced at. The girls behind the counter obviously love their jobs and we so friendly and helpful. The "scoop" is huge and could easily be two scoops. Our bill was seriously $2. We sat there and enjoyed our tasty treat for a few moments, stopped in the restrooms (which were immaculate by the way) and got something from the gift shop. What is is about ice cream that makes people so friendly? All the people in line were discussing what they tried and what their favorite flavors were. Great pit stop. Brenham is famous for bluebonnets and BlueBell--so if you don't want a crowded tour--don't go during the bluebonnet season. We went in late May, and were still in awe over all of the Other wildflowers that grace the bluebonnet fields after the spring bluebonnets have come and gone. They only offer tours Monday through Friday. I took my very old grandmother-in-law and my children. The ticket booth lady was kind enough to let me know that the tour is 1/4 mile of walking with no sitting and that my grandma could sit and enjoy ice cream while we younger spryer folk could go on. I did hesitate, but she didn't. She was able to go on the airconditioned tour with no problem, and was offered the elevator.Keep this in mind if taking someone who might not be able to walk the 1/4 mile though. The tourguide was on yelling volume only and rushed through her speech as if she had said it a million times before. I longed for an educational pamplet or fact book, but found none. This tour was a fun way to introduce my young children to the ideas of factories and food production. I've taken them to farms to see where whole foods come from but now they have a new appreciation for where packaged food comes from,too. I was expecting a birthday party sized cup of homemade vanilla or dutch chocolate with a wooden spoon at the end of the tour--but was surprised by a ice cream shop counter of choices and a large cup of ice cream. ( I chose southern hospitality as I hadn't tried it before--vanilla based with a strawberry swirl, pecans and pineapple--yum!) My kids were especially impressed with the "water tower" sized labelled vats of Granulated sugar, milk and ice cream mix. Also, you are actually walking through the hallways and see the workers--taking breaks, eating ice cream (all they want while at work and on break) and basically hating being on display at their job. If you love bluebell, have small kids and grandmas, and/or loved the factory scenes from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood--this is a great way to spend a weekday afternoon.=) read more
