    Sauerbraten

This is a neighborhood restaurant in an urban environment, which has been around for 50+ years. Obviously, they're doing something right. The atmospheric is really cozy, with an old world charm. It's clean, and staff is friendly. If you're looking for Eastern European food, you'll find plenty to choose from on the menu. I went for SAUERBRATEN, Beef marinated in sweet and sour gravy, served with spaetzels, and a choice of soup or salad. The soup that day was a tomato potato, which I found to be very tasty. The main course was outstanding. If you like that dish, most restaurants don't have it, and when you do find it, the next question is do they prepare it the way you like it. YES, and YES! By all means, save room for dessert. For me, that was Cherry Strudell, though the Crepes looked very appealing ...I'll check them out next time, and there certainly WILL be a next time!! The menu is on their website, along with the prices, which are not unreasonable

Made reservations. Sweet retro ambiance. Ordered pierogi appetizers. I ordered the stuffed cabbage entrée with mushroom soup & spaetzl. The food was absolutely delicious and divine. I cannot sing it's praises more!!!

Now that DeLorenzo's is gone and so are the Trenton Thunder there aren't many reasons to venture down to Trenton anymore. However, coming here is one. The place feels like a turning back the clock in time. Local spot where I can get some food that reminds me of my ancestors and grandmother, who I used to come here with. Definitely recommend the Beef Goulash and the Wiener schnitzel. The pierogis are also not to be missed. Portions are huge, prices are reasonable. Worth the trip down to Trenton.

Took my daughter for her 22nd birthday (she was born in Germany!). She got the Tour of Europe and I got the Jager Schnitzel. We both started with a salad. The creamy dill dressing was really good! She loved her tour of Europe and I thought my Jager Schnitzel was some of the best I've had since living in Germany! The restaurant has a beautiful old school charm to it. The waitress was wonderful! We were too full for dessert so she brought my daughter a candle in a whipped cream shot! LOL. It was a wonderful and delicious evening!

The Hungarian Meat Center, owned and operated by the Rozsa Family since 1988,specializes in everything Hungarian. The store is on the small side but upon entering smells of smoked sausages, garlic, paprika and cumin which permeate the air. When in the area, I stop in to pickup some Hungarian delicacy or another. This last visit, I bought a gyulai $16, Cseresz kolbasz $8, and a container of prune and apricot jam, $4.75 each. It's difficult to find Hungarian products in Northern New Jersey let alone at reasonable prices and at this quality level. I must add that their apricot jam has the right texture, no added sugar however the sweetness of the fruit remains. I love it. They also offer torta, punies, kremes/sampit, spices and seasonal candies.

The refrigerators are too small. There are fewer than 30 seats. Every year we've asked a little more of this tiny restaurant than it was built to give. We kept making it work because that's what restaurants do. You patch things. You mop. You move the boxes. You come in early. You leave late. You convince yourself one more busy weekend might solve a problem that isn't really solvable. Last fall, when we needed help, you gave it. In a big way. The support from this community carried us further than I thought possible. It gave us the chance to make changes, find our footing, and imagine a future here. But eventually the room tells you when it's time. And this one has given us everything it could. So before circumstances made the decision for me, I decided to make it myself. Our last dinner service will be June 14. Our last lunch service will be July 5. Between now and then, we'll cook some old tavorites. The tuna melts, the cheesecake, the deviled eggs, the borscht. All the things that somehow became bigger than the little room they came from. Mostly, I just want to say thank you. For every seat filled. Every celebration. Every regular who became a friend. Every person who took a chance on an Eastern European inspired restaurant with a crooked basement and ambitious ideas. I don't know exactly what Agi's looks like next. I only know that restaurants are never really the space they're in. They're the people who remember them long after the chairs are stacked and the lights go out." Folks, I cannot express how sad I am but know Jeremy and his incredible staff and restaurant will be back... If you have not dined at Agi's do not wait! This is a gem of a restaurant! I recommend everything! Loyal patron now and in the future!
