This place came recommended by someone I trust, so I am surprised and extremely disappointed to have had the worst experience I've ever had with a boarding place. It started the minute we dropped off our 11 year old chihuahua mix, Mouse, who is very mild mannered and sweet. I was having surgery out of state and if I had a choice I would have not left my dog with the very rude man who wouldn't let us in further than the front alley of the place and wouldn't let us see where our dog was going to sleep because of "insurance." All calls and e-mails to check in on my dog to see how he was doing were ignored. When I finally got someone on the phone they said they'd call back and never did. In a five night stay we got one short video of someone trying to lure my dog to him with a treat. My dog, who is extremely friendly, looked nervous and would not come to him. We picked Mouse up as early as we could and he was missing his leash, a bag of bully rings, a bag of treats, his water bowl and the canvas bag it all came in. A polite email thanking them for taking care of my dog and asking if my husband could come back for the missing items was also ignored. Mouse looked okay but seemed a bit shell shocked, and very hoarse as if he'd been barking the entire time he was there. It's lasted three days now and if it doesn't improve we're going to take him to the vet. I know there are those who are better with dogs than people but we have no way of knowing if they're good with dogs either. Never again. read more

I cannot say enough about the amazingness of David, Jenny, and the crew at Blue Dog Ranch--- I have two rescue pups -- a rat terrier mix and a pit mix-- who at different times began exhibiting pretty hardcore behavioral issues-- to the point the people suggested that I might need to rehome one of my dogs. Both dogs (the terrier 5 years ago and the pittie 1 year ago) went through David's boot camp to help remedy their antisocial behaviors. It took a lot of continued efforts on my part after each of them returned home to solidify the skills that they had learned while at Blue Dog, but it has been an utter miracle. I have two dogs that are now incredibly well-trained and emotionally solid which never would have happened had they not spent time with David and his crew. They continue to go to Blue Dog for daycare and boarding. They love blue dog and the daycare employees so much that they can barely wait to jump out of the car and greet them in the morning. The staff goes above and beyond to keep me up to date on how the day went and gives them so much love!! I have read some negative reviews about Blue Dog on yelp and would like to suggest you check them out and make your own decision. One of the things I adore about David is his candor and dedication to his work and the dogs-- he has told me a few things about the way that I was handling the situation with my dogs at home-- of course criticism is sometimes a hard thing to stomach but the bottom line is that most issues dogs have stem from issues with the human involved. A lot about reconciling behavioral issues with dogs involves reconciling your own issues as a human being. If you can't take constructive criticism then that seems more a personal issue. Blue Dog Ranch puts so much work, care and love into the dogs that they expect the same from us. I will be forever in debt to David and crew for teaching me how to be a assertive, calm and strong dog Mom and for continuing to take such good care of my babies!! read more

Same rating, but a little update: My dog is doing so much better at Blue Dog. I'd previously noticed that she had stopped engaging with other dogs at the park. I chalked that up to just, you know, growth. She was a ball dog! NBD. After a few months at Blue Dog, she engages dogs more and plays with them. I'm not quite sure what was going on at the other facility at the end of our tenure, but I think it's pretty clear the dogs were being discouraged from healthy, active play. I'm glad my dog is feeling more secure and playful again and glad that BD helped her! The ONLY thing I wish they'd do is set up cameras so we can see the dogs rotating through the yards, or even just send pictures! read more

If you have an aggressive dog, or a dog who doesn't typically like to play with others, then I might suggest this place. If you have a super friendly dog, who loves being social, who is energetic and loves to play all day, then this place is NOT for your dog. Their play yard is small, and usually empty (we tried this place out for 10 days and only one time did I see dogs in their play yard(s). Almost every time I went to pick my dog up (regardless of the time of day), they would retrieve her from a small room, just off of the office, where it appears that the majority of daycare only dogs are being kept in "travel" kennels during the time they are not in the yard - which, measuring from the intensity of my dog's energy when she arrived home, was very little time at all. This room was also super loud with easily 10-15 barking dogs - which also causes me concern, considering this type of environment can cause a huge amount of stress for any dog. But what bothered me the most, was when I asked if I could have a tour of the facilities, including this room, I was told that they do not give tours of this room - that if I wanted to see the "boarding kennels" - they could arrange to show me those, and they would show me the play yard - but that this was their "holding room" and really couldn't allow customers back there. I was also told that my dog was getting on average, about 45 minutes of play time each day, because when they are full up on dogs, they can only let one or two out into the play yard at a time - and in order to accommodate every dog, this can take all day. What this translated to me was...."we let your dog out of the travel kennel to pee and poop at least once a day, sometimes more, if we are not that full." We left their facility with money on the books! We joined another local facility where the dogs are playing with other dogs, socializing with humans, and having F-U-N all day long! My dog comes home happy and tired, every time we send her to daycare! This other facility also has full disclosure, and has cameras set up so you can check on your fur baby at any time! I realize I will probably get some response that will try to explain all of this - but sometimes I feel that this type of review is necessary so that others don't go through a similar experience. read more

Ingrid is kind and patient, and worked with Hank (and us!) to make sure his transition to our home was the best it could be. And David's training method is excellent and effective--Hank really responded well to it. We could not have asked for anything more from the compassionate folks at Blue Dog Ranch; they are constantly working to rescue animals and work tirelessly on the animals' behalf. Review for Daycare only! You need to bring your pup in for an evaluation and to view the property before your fur-baby can go to daycare. I was a little sketched out by the process when I arrived because I didn't get to view the whole property. It would be more comforting to have a proper tour of the place my pup will be spending some of his days. But I gave it a go any way and Rambo (my dog) seems to enjoy it. Most days when I pick him up he sleeps as soon as we get home, so I know he played hard. Every now and then I get emailed pictures of him playing with his buds, they aren't the best quality but they are nice to receive! The price isn't bad either! read more

We moved out of the city, had to try another daycare, and decided to come back to Blue Dog. There is just no replacing the care, people, how happy our dog is to be there, or the peace of mind we have while he is there. We've been at Blue Dog just over 3 years, for both daycare and boarding. We looked at several daycares before we chose Blue Dog. We chose Blue Dog because we liked the smaller play groups, and that our dog would have built in breaks during the day. We have had only positive experiences since day one. Jenny and Lisa in the front office are always welcoming and have been incredibly accommodating and helpful, in a way we know is above and beyond what we could ever expect from a business. Our dog has always been treated like family at Blue Dog, and we know he is happy to be there. We aren't quite sure what we would do without Blue Dog Ranch, or the people who work there. Our German Shepard Minny was a very protective and nervous pup, which made it difficult for her to meet strangers and get boarded anywhere. She is also a leash puller so it was difficult taking her on walks. I researched through many dog training facilities and came across Blue dog ranch. After talking with David about Minny's issues and details on the training process, we decided to put Minny through the 21-day live-in program. Minny wasn't an easy dog to train so David was able to adapt the training style to what works best for our dog and really put in the time to make sure that Minny understand the training foundation. David also came to our home to train and transfer what he taught Minny to us. Without doing this step, the dog's bad behavior comes back so it's important that the family understands how to handle the dog training as well. At the end of the program, Minny was like a new dog calm, confident, and no longer pulling on the leash. We train Minny every day and we continue to see improvement in her behavior. I've been bringing my crazy dog here for over a month now and it has been the best thing ever. Sig can't wait to get in the door. I've been taking dogs to daycare for years and years and everyone does it a little different. This place is great since Sig is leash aggressive. They have controlled entry so no dog sees each other until they are in the back. This helps with the stress of Sig seeing another dog on a leash. When there are no leashes on any dogs he is amazing with them. So this setup really helps. The staff: I can't say enough great things about them. I swear they love Sig more than I do!! Everyone is super nice and above that knowledgeable! They understand your dogs have quirks and work to ease your stress about it. I've read other reviews where they say you don't get to see every nook and cranny of the place. I understand your trepidation. But 99% of the daycares I've been to over the years don't show everything. So please don't let that deter you from bringing your pup here. That's just how things roll at daycares. It is obvious that Sig is treated like a king here since he is so excited on the car ride in the morning. Jenny is so kind! Blue Dog Ranch is many things in one, groomer, boarding facility, day care, a rescue and probably more that I can't remember. My long time groomer Tina joined their team and I was so excited. I brought my dog and cat in for grooming. Tina is amazing. She loves animals and is so compassionate and caring. I have been bringing my dog to Blue-dog for a while now because their groomer was amazing and never had any problems with their service when it came to my pup, but I did when it came to me. The lady in the front, Jenny, is extremely rude and doesn't know how to run a business. She will smile at you and be extremely nice the first time you meet, but after that, its all complaints and speaking ill of her workers and customers. While picking up my pup (on multiple occasions), I heard her talking poorly of other customers and saying she is so annoyed that people bring in their dogs for grooming every month...I'm sorry, last I checked, you're supposed to groom your dog every month! On another occasion, a woman dropped her dog off for doggy day care while I was in the waiting area (Which is filthy by the way) and after she left, she turned to me and say, "ugh. Her dog is so poorly behaved. you would think with the money she has, she could afford to train him or something." There was another occasion where she was on the phone when I walked in, she put her finger up and of course, I understand, someone's on the phone, Ill wait. But after the conversation was over, there no apology or no hello, no smile, just a load of complaints again about the customer who was calling about bringing their dog in. These are all things I have observed with my own eyes and ears, can you imagine what is going on behind the scenes with our beloved pups that we AREN'T seeing? I'm sorry but this woman takes the tranquil vibes that Blu Dog Ranch gives off and turns them into discomfort and down-right unprofessionalism. David was the key in helping us rehabilitate our rescued one year old pitbull mix. A week after we got her we were so frustrated -- she was eliminating on our rug, breaking out of her crate, not responding when we spoke, chewing or clothes and shoes. We were on the verge of bringing her back to the shelter. One session with David changed our perspective and turned her, and more importantly us, around overnight. After a few months of keeping to his program our dog is the best trained dog in our neighborhood. Strangers constantly compliment her obedience. Some of this is of course her nature and intelligence, but David deserves most of the credit for helping us develop a structure that lets her grow into a happy and healthy dog who knows what's expected of her. She's had zero elimination incidents since that first session, and only a couple minor chewing infractions. I can't overstate the benefit of his program. This is my first dog and it's been one of the most happy and rewarding experiences of my life to rehabilitate her and watch her turn into a happy, well behaved and extremely sweet dog. We use Blue Dog Ranch boarding for consistency. They crate, feed and train her using the same program/commands we do. The goal is not to send her to a weird Hollywood dog spa, it's to make sure she becomes a good adult dog in the long term that can be around people, kids, and other dogs and animals. I recently rescued my dog, Sadie, and she had EXTREME leash aggression towards other dogs. Since I wanted to take her with me everywhere I really needed her to be well trained and I had heard such great things about David Roe at Blue Dog Ranch! I put Sadie in the 21 day boot camp program and just after 21 days I saw remarkable improvements, but since she still had some issues on the leash David kept her for over a month longer and I got to train with both of them once a week! Our dog has been going to Blue Dog Ranch since August of 2018. When we approached David Roe, we had many concerns about our dog's arousal level, stress and tendency towards over-excitement. David recommended his boarding program to address the behavioral challenges. David, Jenny and the Blue Dog Ranch staff have been exceptional and the time our dog spent on the program has made a difference in our lives. Their protocol has given us tools on how to deal with boundaries, and re-train commands that we may have been using improperly in the past. We are beyond grateful for the Blue Dog Ranch staff and the care they have taken with us, preparing videos, home visits, training sessions, day care and boarding while we travel. David has never sugar-coated anything about our dog's behavior and it is one of things we liked best about him. He gave us a time-frame from the start on how his program would work, but also catered to our specific needs. In that time-frame, he explained he may have to work on some things more than others. Disclaimer - I have not boarded my dogs here, however I toured the facility and was very disappointed. There's no way I'd leave my babies here. a. Loud construction going on non-stop (on-site) when we looked at the place. Dogs were barking all around us and I knew that level of noise would drive our dogs INSANE. b. Weird treatment from the staff. One girl showed us around, while the other girl at the desk barely acknowledged our presence. Very stand-offish treatment from them both, vague answers to my questions, and just a general unfriendly vibe that made us feel uncomfortable. MOST IMPORTANTLY: c.) The facility. Don't be fooled by the pictures on the website. Yes, the outside play area is pretty nice. But we were told when the dogs are boarded overnight, they're only allowed access to the play area outside a couple hours a day. Ok, fine I guess, but where do they stay the rest of the time? In a poorly lit back room stacked with old, dingy dog kennels. The room looked suspiciously unclean and when I asked if we could look around the room, we were given a simple "No". Hmmm. Really? I'm going to pay $50/day for my dogs to be locked up in a cage 75% or more of the time in a room that I'm not allowed to see? Don't think so. I know this place has some good reviews. Maybe it's good just for daycare, since the daycare dogs spend the day in the outdoor play area. But there is no way I'd recommend boarding your dog here based on what I saw. read more

If only I lived anywhere near Burbank....ahhh, this place is awesome. It's small so they are able to give more attention to your baby, and really try hard to make both of you happy through the process. I love taking my dog here because she does not do well with other dogs, and they are able to give her individualized attention (i.e.-walks) without sending me to the bank. They used to have a discount for all rescue dogs, but I think their rates went up. The bad part is that you can't pick your dog up on sunday or monday b/c they are closed, but you still have to pay for those days. However if you buy a bath, they will give you one day for free. It sucks that it's in burbank and totally across town from where I live. read more

I decided to bring my puppy, Naomi, to Blue Dog Ranch while I went to Seattle for a few days. The staff was really nice and they put me at ease once I dropped her off. I called daily to check on her and it went to voicemail every single time. My phone call was returned within 2-3 hours...maybe they were busy keeping Naomi entertained? Hmm. Where do I start? Thank you David for giving me my sanity back. My 110 pound German Shepherd, Max, had leash agression for the past year. Every day was stressful taking him for a walk as he would lunge and bark at anything and everything. The last straw was when he tried to attack my kid's principal. I called Blue Dog ranch from a referral the next day and off max went to doggie boot dog training with David and his dog loving training team. Max has been back for two weeks, and he is a new dog. Healthy and happy, but he no longer takes me for a stressful walk. I take him for a walk with new tools and confidence that I can handle him in any situation. Also all the videos of his training are on YouTube for my review when needed. David was and is very patient with my many many redundant questions and is always a phone call away. He is great at explaining the training and shows by example. David Roe and his staff are angels. My dog Rusty had developed some fear aggression issues and I didn't know what to do. He didn't like strangers and he REALLY didn't like men. I had tried other trainers but they didn't seem equipped to handle Rusty and had all told me that he was the worst they'd ever seen. I was beginning to feel hopeless when someone told me about David and Blue Dog Ranch. Since Rusty's problems were extreme I had enrolled him in their Boot Camp where he would go to live at Blue Dog for 3 weeks. I was sad and nervous about having him be somewhere else for so long but the staff was so reassuring and I thought their facilities were top notch. The Boot Camp is expensive and Rusty's problems were so severe that he had to stay a little longer than expected but it was worth every single penny. I trusted David implicitly when he told me Rusty needed more time. When I went to visit Rusty he was a changed dog. He was calm and happy and most of all I noticed how he had bonded with David. At one point David had left the yard and Rusty went looking all over for him, even though I was standing right next to him and hadn't seen him in a long time. For a dog that was scared of men, it was amazing to see how much he had grown attached to David. While Rusty was gone, David assured me that I could call him to check on his progress. His staff would also give me updates on how he was doing. T even took pictures of Rusty for me and sent them to me. I really felt like everyone cared about Rusty and his well being. What's so great about David is his follow through. He doesn't just train the dog, he will deliver them to your house and transition him back with you. It's been awhile since Rusty has been at Blue Dog but his training is still in place, since David stressed how important it was to maintain the skills he taught Rusty. Someone remarked the other day that Rusty was like a robot - did everything I told him to on command and was just so sweet and well behaved. In the past 6 months I can't say that I've seen hum revert back to his old fear aggressive ways and I know that I have David and his staff to thank for giving me back the sweet little puppy I first fell in love with! read more

I had Blue Dog Ranch train my dog for a 5 day overnight training. As a caveat, I will say the owner (David) recommends the three week overnight course, but this seemed like an extended period of time and I wanted to have her get the foundation down before investing in a three week course. First off, my dog had visibly lost weigh during the 5 day stay. Probably 5-7 lbs on a 55 lb dog. David explained that they only hand feed the dog during the stay with treats during training to get them to better comply. I learned of this after the training. And yes, if you're dog is constantly hungry, the dog will pay very close attention to you if you have food. I didn't expect miracles with the training, but would have expected her to have learned a strong down/stay and some training with heel command. (She already had basic training). When he delivered her, she did not heel at all. And it took him standing right in front of her to get her to sit. He said she was distracted being back in her old environment and recommended that I just walk her up and down the driveway for a few weeks to get her trained. So in other words, I shouldn't walk her anywhere else than on my 75 ft driveway! They also charge $100 for a video of the training (shot with their trainer and my dog). This a complete waste of money. It was a 20 minute video of them walking my dog around showing that my dog performed certain actions (walking on lease, down/stay, etc.). It's really just a video that shows they did some training with the dog, but has no value other than that. I also paid $200 for lesson when they dropped the dog off. The lesson was helpful (aside from David telling me I should just walk the dog in the driveway for a few weeks). Though $200/hour is very expensive. I called to bring up these issues and the owner said he would come out and do a free lesson when he was out on the West side again. Never heard back from them. read more

We always knew our Pete was a really good dog. David gave us the tools to help him manage his exuberant nature and fit into our household. We use those tools every day. Now, within that framework, we can see Pete growing up, and our relationship with him improving, day by day. One of the signs I had that David's method works came shortly after the end of the boarding/training period. I had about a week with Pete before I had to go out of town again, and we'd agreed in advance to board Pete with Blue Dog. When Pete saw that David had arrived to pick him up, he was ecstatic. Dogs don't dissimulate. If there had been anything bad in his training, Pete would have showed that when David arrived. Instead, he greeted him like I would greet my parents. I don't know where we would be with our boy Murphy if it wasn't for David and his wonderful and amazing staff! Our rescue suffered abuse and had extreme aggression issues w anyone or any dog. Our life of rescuing and fostering was put on hold while we worked extremely hard to help Murphy. Every dog training center told us to put him down to get rid of the problem. We were shocked by the cold hearted responses we got. On top of that these places wanted a arm, leg and first born if we decided to go w their "doggie boot camp" so to speak. They were heartless and all about money and nothing about compassion or sympathy. Until we met David ! He has changed our quality of life in a big way while being affordable and willing to work with us given the circumstances. David and Bobby Sue have been very understanding to our work schedule as well. Being in the film business makes it difficult for pickup and drop off during business hours. However we do our best to not make that a habit b/c we really appreciate EVERYTHING they do for us and our family. Our Murphy couldn't be any happier! Our 2 other dogs get excited going to Gma/Gpa house for dinner, Murphy gets excited going to who we call "uncle David". The min we get off the freeway he gets super excited and can control himself. He knows where he's going and couldn't be happier. We will continue to recommended Blue Dog Ranch for the rest of our lives. They gave us hope while helping us have our life back w/o taking the easy and cheap way out, putting him down. We will be forever grateful to David and Bobby Sue! read more

I've had the pleasure of taking a relaxing vacation here while my owners were in San Francisco. It is like a little house full of friendly pups, each room for appropriate sized pups. There are kennels in the back for nighttime, and during the day you get to hang out with the doting staff, they even give you a walk! Before I came to stay here, my owners were allowed to check & hang out inside the house to see how things operated. Everyone was very friendly and assuring. It is located in the industrial/kennel designated area in Burbank. There isn't a lot of stuff to do inside the house but hang out with the other pups, not a lot of outdoor playing. If your pup is relatively mellow, this is a fine choice for you. One thing that was hard on the owners: they have a strict pick-up policy. If you are late they won't let you pick up till the next day. After hitting traffic on the way back from S.F., the owners had to get someone else to pick me up. Luckily blue dog ranch was ok with that. After many cell phone calls and verification, they let me go home with a family friend who was nice enough to pick me up on such a rainy night. read more

Prior to this weekend, my nearly 4-year-old labrador retriever, "Beans," had never been boarded before. I usually have him stay with our dog walker, but with the dog walker inconveniently out-of-town this past weekend, I decided to take a gamble with Blue Dog Ranch. Alas, I'd found them on Yelp. Boy, are we (my fiance, dog and I) happy to have discovered this place! A mere two freeway exits away from our home, this facility could not be more conveniently located. I picked my dog up this morning, and he seemed to be in very good spirits. No signs of having endured separation anxiety. No signs that he was caged-up for an entire weekend. Perhaps it was the play time with his daycare friends? Or the access to the wading pool? Who knows... All I know is that my dog was smiling even before he noticed that I was there to pick him up. The staff was friendly when I dropped my dog off, and friendly when I picked him up. The facilities looked really clean. No signs of crusty dog poop. And the dogs left at the center all seemed pretty friendly. My dog was returned to me in one piece, uninjured. What more could I ask for? I'll be back :) Note: $40/night, you bring your own food. We have a household of three different size and aged dogs, and when I got pregnant we started looking around for a trainer to help bring some order to our loving chaos. On training: I am so relieved to have found David and Blue Dog Ranch! My ten year old pit bull has a lot of anxiety, and has started to show aggression towards people and dogs in the past few years. I had tried a different trainer with her in Austin, TX, when she first started to show signs of severe anxiety, but the techniques I learned seemed to make the problems worse to the point where I'VE become anxious with the idea of taking her around people and dogs. She had started to get get snippy with strangers, and even lunged at our vet. David uses positive reinforcement, structure, and distraction to build confidence and calm anxiety. I have always had an issue with the concept of matching aggression with aggression (such as flipping dogs). David's technique is essentially pleasant persistence--and it is so effective. My dog has just completed the three week training with David, and I can now take her on walks without having any tension on her leash, and she even passed the squirrel test this morning and looked to me for a treat instead of attempting to pull both of us up a tree to get said squirrel! On daycare: One of the great things they do at Blue Dog is have small groups with Doggie Daycare as to not overwhelm dogs. They match your dog up with 2-3 other dogs that suit each other's personalities. This is fantastic since I know my pit bull can get impatient and snippy with other anxious dogs. We discovered the Blue Dog Ranch a few years ago and will, quite simply, NEVER trust ANYONE ELSE with our dog Cole's overnight comfort and safety when we are out of town or need to board him for a special occasion. We live in an area that has a LOT of fireworks activity on the 4th of July which means Cole comes in earlier than normal on that evening. Last night we had the chance to attend the Rose Bowl 4th of July celebration which meant Cole either stayed outside or in the laundry room until we got home (well after 10:30 pm). Neither choice was acceptable given his skittishness and fear of the fireworks' sounds. So we called the Blue Dog Ranch and they were able to accommodate Cole overnight. We enjoyed our activity, Cole spent a peaceful night amongst friends and the price was no more than usual even though it was a holiday. Thanks, Blue Dog Ranch. We're customers for life! read more

UPDATED REVIEW: Well, what started off to what I thought would be a great place for my puppy to go to daycare and be boarded ended up being a horrible fit. Issue 1: I boarded my 5 month old puppy for 3 nights and brought my treat tin and food from home with printed out instructions as well as verbal instructions to the staff. Upon getting my pup home I discovered the ENTIRE treat tin was empty when I had clearly written my dog only be given "a couple of treats per day." Needless to say I was shocked and immediately emailed them about it. I was told they would "look in to the matter," and then received a very half assed apology email back saying the staff were made known not to do this in the future but that "it's hard to resist such a cute puppy and reward her." Well, my puppy pooped 8 times in the span of 24 hours after this so I was not happy and honestly should've known at that point the staff people were clearly not paying attention to my dogs specific care instructions. But beyond her specific feeding/treat notes NOBODY should over feed a dog. My treat tin usually lasts me 2 whole weeks! Not 72 hours! Issue 2: boarded my puppy again for 3 days and when I picked her up yesterday I got her into the car and immediately noticed she was hacking / coughing the whole ride home. I thought maybe car sickness at first, but she's NEVER been car sick so then I thought maybe she just had something in her throat. Nope! Poor girl coughed all night long and literally sounds like a human with Bronchitis. Phoned my vet and she confirmed by listening it was kennel cough and told me to come in immediately the next morning. Saw my vet today and got my puppy on antibiotics thankfully. I confronted the head staff person about the kennel cough and expressed my anger and disappointment that my puppy was noticeably ill. If anyone had been actually paying attention to her over the 3 days she was boarded they would've heard the coughing because I heard it immediately upon getting her in to my car to go home. Not to mention the green goopy discharge coming out of her eyes! It is UNACCEPTABLE they sent my dog home sick. And regardless of whether my puppy got the kennel cough there, or elsewhere (even though she was 100% healthy when I dropped her off to be boarded) - it is HIGHLY contagious so any dogs she has interacted with over her 3 days there have now been exposed to the virus. And the cherry on the cake: because kennel cough is so contagious my puppy is on quarantine for 7-10 days until she is done with antibiotics. I had a trip planned next week to go support my best friend whose daughter is battling Leukemia and I had to cancel it because no boarding facility will take a dog with kennel cough for upward of 2-4 weeks even after they have finished antibiotics! So thanks to the negligence of the staff my entire schedule has now been altered to care for my sick dog, who should've been taken to the vet the second she showed symptoms. So to summarize: STAY AWAY. I am beyond disappointed by how Blue Dog Ranch handled both of these situations. I truly thought my dog was in good hands, having fun at their daycare, and I trusted the staff. But after these two strikes I won't allow a third and am never going back. read more

I wish I were a millionare so I could fund his company for the rest of my days. Let me point out that his method of training has NO negative aspects to it. What I mean is there's no saying "no," "stay," or "leave it." When you "correct" your dog it's such a simple and ingenious way that not only works, but also builds the bond between you and your best friend. We found ourselves in a very peculiar spot. My wife and I were in the process of foster/adopting a child, but one of the restrictions was "Dog must not be a danger to children". Well, our Chi-Weenie, DeCooley, was a rescue from the pound. In our stay, she had bitten 2 children and one grandmother. So we knew that in order to progress in the adoption process we had to either give DeCooley away or get her trained. We sent her to Blue Dog Ranch for approximately 6 weeks (including 4 home visits) where David Roe worked very hard in getting rid of her old habits and instilling new ones. DeCooley feels like a brand new dog. I wouldn't say David "cured" her, but he did give us a new set of tools to use when it comes to her training. He stressed that as long as we are strict with the training he implemented, then there will be no more problems. I couldn't recommend Blue Dog enough. His #1 concern isn't making money, but rather making sure the Dog is properly trained. Having the Dog gone for so long was very tough, but once we finished going through withdrawals...and just let David do his work....we received the best result. read more

Well we are new to LA and were looking for a place to keep our Beagle on our first trip out of town. We were just taking a two day trip to Catalina but we are a little cautious with leaving our dog places because of a bad experience we had a few years ago. After reading the reviews here we decided on Blue Dog Ranch even though its a little far from us. Great choice! They were very friendly and professional and our little guy looked liked he had great time when we picked him up. As many people have mentioned "T" who runs the office is so friendly and helpful that I think it rubs off on the other employees and their great customer service is very appreciated. We will be going back for sure and feel lucky to have found a place we trust to board our favorite Beagle. read more

I was concerned about leaving my dog when we went on a three day trip for my sister's wedding. My dog has a history of seizures. I went in explained my concerns and came away feeling safe about leaving here there. When I moved to Burbank from the Bay Area I had no idea where to turn for a doggie hotel for my frequent work/play days. Through good fortune and the internet I found an amazing boarding for my 4.5 lb little buddy, a Yorkie named Rocky. He's a part of my family and I want only the best for him and that's why I only board at Blue Dog Ranch. The caretakers truly love dogs and provide a lot of individual attention. I can tell he is happy and well-cared for because he loves to go there! When I turn the corner towards the building, even in the car, his tail starts wagging! He runs in for his extended stay. As a loving pet owner; there's nothing better than knowing he's in good hands for my short weekend trips and extended stays. I am so glad this place exists!!! We had to prepare our very peculiar and full of separation anxiety dog Vincent for an international trip and we were terrified. We decided to reach out to Blue Dog Ranch for help. Since the beginning, they have been very communicative, understanding of our needs but most important, Vincent's needs. He went happy for his doggy daycare, the staff was super friendly and also they even helped us find a kennel for the trip! It was life-saving. The facilities are clean, and our dog (that usually is afraid of strangers) was happy to spend Wednesdays there for a few months. Vincent is a rescued big german shepherd mix. I am happy to say that after staying consistent with them and doing some kennel training at home our dog made it safely to Spain! (where we are relocating). read more

Calling David Roe and sending our dog to Blue Dog Ranch was one of the best decisions I have ever made and I can't say enough positive things about him and the job they do. I urge each of you to read my rather lengthy review as I hope it will be helpful for you in your decision process. A bit of background on us: My husband and I adopted a dog from a rescue about five years ago. He is absolutely adorable, cuddly and all around very loving. However, we started to have incidents where he would react very negatively when he did not get his way, was intimated by new people or became territorial of his toys or us. My husband and I did whatever we could not to provoke this behavior, which basically meant that our dog was in charge. After I got pregnant, he only became more territorial and we realized something had to be done, as the problem was only getting worse. I asked a friend who was involved with a dog rescue and she said she had an amazing contact who she had used tons of times with both rescue and non-rescue dogs. David first came to our house, and was incredibly patient and understanding, listening to our issues and spending a great deal of time with us. We determined after the first training session that it was going to be really hard on me to do all the training and since time was of the essence, we would send our dog to his month training session and then we would be taught how to implement it. We needed to not only show our dog that we were in charge but also have him get ready for the upcoming arrival of our first baby. David was great about keeping me updated and taking my calls when I would want to know the progress. After a few weeks I happened to look at a few of the negative reviews on Yelp and called my husband in tears. What I did not realize was that at the bottom of the page were about 50 additional incredibly positive ones. I have no idea where these negative ones came from because it truly could not have been a better experience for us and many other people I have since sent. David cares deeply about the job he does, (he ended up keeping our dog a little bit longer because he wanted to be certain he did as well of a job as humanly possible). He urged me to call him with any questions as he more than anyone wants to ensure that you are doing exactly what needs to happen to ensure the necessary changes with your animal. When we went to get our dog, we were blown away by how much he learned and how incredibly happy and proud he appeared while showing us his new knowledge. It was not until about a month after our dog returned home with us, when I realized how positive this experience had been. Not once did we have an incident and we had been implementing all new rules in our home. David came back to check-in with us and see how we were doing and the second our dog saw David coming down the sidewalk, he went absolutely crazy, jumping up and down and trying to get close to David. He was ecstatic to see him!! If I ever had an element of doubt, it was completely erased at that moment. Now months later, our dog is a completely different animal. He is much more calm, responds incredibly well to our commands and gets very excited when its time to do his training. I've been boarding my american staffordshire terrier mix with Blue Dog Ranch off and on when needed over the last three years. They have always been great with our dog. She is a bit of a "special" dog and we don't let her go into group doggy daycare. Although a total sweetheart, she had a rough start in life and we rather play it safe with her socializing with others while we are not there to supervise. After much research, we decided on Blue Dog. They are actually one of the few places that will keep dogs separate during boarding and I believe the only place that gives them their own personal time to run around in their many open, clean areas. We have boarded our dog there for up to a week at times and she always comes back happy and calm. It is very obvious she has not been shut in the kennel the whole time and has had her daily exercise, which she very much needs. The people who work there are dog people as well. They love dogs and it shows. They have taken great care of our dog. It is great to leave town and not worry about our very important member of the family. Highly recommend Blue Dog Ranch. read more

David and his staff at Blue Dog Ranch are about as caring and dedicated as you can get when it comes to training or boarding your dog. When I first came to Blue Dog Ranch I was impressed with the huge shade trees, large yard and pond area for the dogs to play in. Good vibes! The staff is friendly and always busy tending to the dogs. I came to Blue Dog Ranch in search of training for my pit/mix Sofie who had anxiety issues .I enrolled her into David's 3 week training program and am so happy I did. David's method of behavior modification is based on positive reinforcement. He has a strong and steady demeanor that is calming and enables him to gain a dog's trust. Sofie required a bit more time to learn. David is very patient and spent a few extra days with her at no extra charge to make sure she was ready to come home, most importantly he did several lessons with me at my house to ensure that I would be able to continue her training properly. He also includes a video of your dog in training so you can always refer that to for guidance. My dog responded amazingly well to David's training, she is calmer and knows how to do a sit/stay, come command and walk calmly on a leash. I also now know how to handle Sofie. When I go out of town I board Sofie at Blue Dog Ranch, she always comes home happy and in good health. We are so happy to have found you! The only place I feel comfortable leaving my baby. Martha loves Blue Dog Ranch and everyone who works there. The staff goes out of their way to accommodate our needs and our schedule. Martha is not a fan of other dogs, and I would not have been able to rescue her without Blue Dog. There are no other acceptable daycare options for an aggressive dog. They have taken amazing care of her 3-4 times a week for 3 years. She also boards when I travel. Martha is always healthy and happy when I pick her up. Sadly for me, she loves the office staff so much that she does not want to leave. Most likely because they keep a special stash of treats just for Martha.
