We definitely came hungry but when I say how those Incredulous CRAB CAKES won the game?! I only ordered one crab cake that I ate on for 2 days! The green beans were yummy too lol We also had (steak) fries that were yummy and mashed potatoes (meh). We also ordered dessert to go. The GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE was delicious!!! 5 Stars - Absolutely Worth the Visit! My husband and I discovered Blue Dolphin on social media. We didn't know anyone personally who had been there, but the photos and buzz convinced us to give it a try. We are so glad we did. We drove about 40 minutes and arrived without reservations. That part was on us. We didn't realize how strongly reservations are recommended. The wait was about an hour, but it was completely worth it. The restaurant was packed, which told us right away that this place is well loved. While we were waiting, we noticed something special. The owner, Mr. Pete, was actively involved at the front desk. He checked the waiting list, greeted guests, and spoke to many customers by name. You could immediately tell he has built real relationships with his clientele. There were several birthday celebrations happening, and the energy in the lobby felt warm and welcoming. Once seated, we were taken care of by our server, Louie. He was attentive, knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely kind. Excellent service makes a big difference, and Louie absolutely delivered. Now the food. Phenomenal. We ordered seafood platters, and the portions were enormous. They start you off with warm bread and butter, which set the tone. The seafood was fresh, perfectly prepared, and beautifully presented. The portions were so generous that we had enough left over to enjoy brunch the next day. For the quality and quantity, the pricing was very reasonable. We had a great experience at Blue Dolphin in Crofton! Our server, Louie, was attentive, knowledgeable, and pleasant. The food was fresh, flavorful, and cooked just right. We had a birthday gathering there for my 86 year old aunt. We had a good time. She lives in DC but she loves this restaurant. It was the first time 7 out of 7 people have ever been and everyone loved the food. The atmosphere was very good as well. My one suggestion would be more forthcoming that they have a kids menu. The waitress that took care of our group was wonderful. We had one small mishap with one meal coming out at the end. It was my sister. She just decided to take her salmon home. I visited this establishment on June 24, 2026, and unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the food. The crab cake was undercooked and had an overpowering egg taste rather than the flavor of fresh crab. The string beans were served cold and were bland, lacking any noticeable seasoning. The loaded potato was covered with what appeared to be Cheese Whiz instead of a quality cheese sauce, which was unexpected. I planned a birthday luncheon for my moms 97th birthday. The first and biggest complaint is the absolutely crazy way the handicapped parking spaces being at least 50 ft away from the corner entrance with a ramp located half way down the sidewalk. Who thought this was a good idea? Certainly not anyone using a walker like my mama. Anyhoo, we eventually entered and were greeted by a gentleman at the desk who said we were welcome to chose our seats either on the bar side or the room on front window side. We chose the window side which was brighter and filled with table tops. It has a casual vibe with seniors coming in for special occasions or just a workday lunch. Our waitress was a nice lady named Sam. The kitchen sent out warm rolls and whipped butters (one of which is sweeter). Blue Dolphin has daily specials but I wanted to get my seafood fix. We selected a variety of apps of calamari, salmon cakes, crab balls and French onion soup (comes with garlic bread). Please don't be like me and think these are normal sizes apps! All dishes were HUGE and tasted delicious. I had the calamari and it was a plate full w/warm marinara sauce and a mayo based one. Same thing with the salmon and crab balls. Then I ordered a fried seafood platter (1 huge crab cake, oysters, shrimp) for my entree with Cole slaw and pan fried potatoes and a crab cake one for my mom with mashed potatoes and string beans. My bestie ordered a T-bone steak and her hubby got the chefs salad. I tasted a bite of her steak but it did t knock my socks off. I couldn't even touch my entree (take out containers for all). Other than a hot water with lemon and iced tea, we didn't try any other drinks. My mom received a slice of strawberry and cream cake with a birthday candle. Sam was very kind and chatted with us. I come here for the yearly event. Every Black Friday they have Another Day Band perform. They play jazz, R&B. A little bit of this. A lot of that! They will have you jamming. I met some friends for lunch at Blue Dolphin today. I had heard about it, but had never been there. They were willing to accommodate a group of six requesting separate checks, which was nice. There menu provides a lot of options, and they had fairly reasonable prices. The server brought out hot rolls with honey butter before we ordered. I ordered an appetizer: the Thai Shrimp Spring Rolls. They were really egg rolls in terms of the size & wrappers, not spring rolls. Each piece did have a shrimp in it. I was looking for a smaller item, but I could not finish the serving. They would be good for sharing. Several of the ladies ordered the crab cake sandwich--apparently what they are known for. The sandwich comes with a cup of soup and either French fries or cole slaw. It was a huge crabcake portion, on a big roll. The only snag was at the end, when the server charged one person for part of someone else's bill. So overall, it was a nice lunch. read more

The fried shrimp were just okay, nothing special. The green beans were straight from a can, but surprisingly still tasty. The highlight of the meal was the baked potato--perfectly cooked! The atmosphere wasn't really my vibe. The seating setup gave off a buffet-style feel, which is fine for some but not what I prefer. Service was decent, no major complaints there. We arrived for dinner on Mother's Day and requested a table for two. We were told to expect a 30 minute wait. A young man asked us for our telephone number and we replied we did not have one. We were told to stay nearby which we did. Another man who escorted customers to their table saw us waiting and asked us for our name. He looked at the electronic waiting list for table vacancies and said we were not listed. The young man we spoke to earlier then shamelessly declared we were not placed on the waiting list because we did not have a telephone. We were eventually escorted to a table, were served our order, and the food was good. I subsequently sent an email to the restaurant asking if it was their policy to place customers on the waiting list only if they have a telephone. I received this reply "we will be implementing new policies and procedures to better serve our Guests." read more

Have not been to the Blue Dolphin in quite a few years. Prices have increased quite a bit but the crab balls were so worth it. They were full of meat and no fillers. Simply delicious. We went on a Saturday around 4 pm and it was already busy. Service was slightly slower than I remember but the server was friendly and attentive. We did have one toddler in our group and we were not able to get her a high chair until close to the end of our meal. The server was very kind and apologized. Our group ordered a variety of dishes, from seafood to chicken and ribs. The portions were huge, the service was quick and our Server, Jennifer, was the best! Even though it was a busy Friday night, she was very attentive and so friendly. The Crabs Cakes come as a platter with two side dishes, I chose sautéed potatoes and spinach with Remoulade sauce. Most places offer tartar or cocktail sauce. If they have remoulade, you know you're having the real deal!! The Crab cake was a solid mound of Crab meat, not a lot of bread crumbs or filler. I tried my best to finish, I even took a break and still could not finish this delicious meal. One Crab cake at this fine establishment was bigger than other restaurants that serve two the size of a hamburger pattie. "The Another Day band" was playing in the banquet hall for there annual Black Friday show. I think this marked their 16th year having the show. The place was packed to capacity. We had to stand in line waiting for overpriced drinks for about 20 minutes. Why couldn't they bring it like they bought the food? This was a big mystery!! The food was okay. My oysters were over battered, couldn't taste the oysters for the batter. Blue Dolphin has a live band every Thursday night which I didn't realize. Anyway it was a fun outing . BTW, there was a cover charge. I think I paid around $75.00 for 2 tickets. They check your tickets at the door when you enter. I am not sure if I will go again. Went there November 25, 2025 for my Union get together and the food was delicious. They offered us a choice of New York Strip Steak, single Crab Cake or. Chicken Marsala. The broiled seafood platter was my selection. The crab cake is better than I recall it being years ago. It use to have more if an egg souffle texture. Flavorful with enough crab meat even if it's not super lumb with little filler. The scallops didn't have a flavor and had a slight after taste that made me stop eating them. The flounder was tender. I noticed as time went by that the size and color of other broiled seafood platters looked fresh (plump,, white,, not dull beige) and their scallops, and fish were much larger. I really love the crabcakes here. This day we sat down in the bar area and I was able to watch my football games. They had all the TVs on with three different games. We ordered the crab balls, which is actually the size of one crab cake. They are excellent broiled. The spinach with feta. I always hold the feta because I don't eat cheese. We also ordered coleslaw which was good. The warm rolls are decent when hot. Usually I take my order to go and drive it back to New York City . The crab cake was good, but that's about it. The crab cake was, as expected, large and well-seasoned. The sides were lacking, almost like a school cafeteria devoid of seasoning, creativity, and presentation. I decided to opt against the steak and crab cake as I saw others who ordered from the steak menu, and the cuts did not look as impressive as I would have hoped. I will give a bit of grace for the meat due to the price point, so not all is bad. The baked potato did not come with salt and pepper on the table or even brought after being requested. The spinach was average; you see the picture--it felt like an afterthought, as did the potato. The complementary bread was excellent and plentiful. The salad I saw from another diner plate was small, but the coconut shrimp looked good. There was one issue where a customer at the party had a piece of metal in the food, which, of course, was taken care of by management--oddly enough, the entire ticket was not comped, especially for such an egregious act so they paid for the appetizer. Another patron did not get food served until we were almost done, and again, instead of management comping or discounting the food, it was met with just an apology (at least they acknowledged) and a bill The atmosphere was (as you people say) mid.
