Our server, Greg, was very friendly and personable and a pleasure to have serve us. He was very knowledgeable of the menu and described how the food was cooked, he changed my mind when I thought I decided what I wanted. I'm glad I went with the special for the day that he described because it was delicious! They offer a variety of food and flavors. Would've given this 5 stars, except that our order somehow got put to the back of the queue, and after 45 mins of waiting we asked about the status of our order and found out what happened. But about 5 mins later our food came out and it was fresh, not cold like it had been sitting there. Ate here for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. I'm a bit of a restaurant snob. Quality of food is excellent, not what you would expect from a grill place. Started off with calamari, lightly battered and cooked perfectly. Crab cake and po' boy were our sandwich picks and they were extraordinary. Staff was so friendly and attentive. They have outdoor seating, though it is unfortunately in direct sunlight. My only other complaint is that the interior is a bit stark and sterilized- feeling. Hate hate hate the new menu and prices!! Not only did they raise their prices, but they removed our favorite menu item (teriyaki tacos). One of our fellow diners always gets the tuna, but her portion was tiny compared to what it used to be. They claim it's better quality tuna, but the previous tuna was fine and actually justified the price. Now you want to charge more for less?! What we enjoy is the nice atmosphere, good food, BYOB, and outside seating. Although they also removed the paper towels and replaced with napkins, so I guess they are trying to kill the relaxed atmosphere as well? I'm not going back if they expect customers to pay more for less or the same. Guess the owner got a bit greedy. Such a shame! read more

I've eaten here many times over the past few years, and I'm only giving two stars on this review for a few reasons... First, they changed the menu and took away some of my favorite items including the BFG fish tacos (which was really their signature menu item) and I believe there used to be a salmon teriyaki taco as well that is now gone. So there are fewer choices of fish tacos and more upscale menu items. Second, unless you get there early you will encounter a very long wait, especially on Friday or Saturday evenings. Third, depending what night you go, the service can be very good or spotty. In order to earn 4 stars, I would say you have to have consistent food and service and not leave repeat/return customers feeling disappointed. On the most recent visit, I ordered the crab cakes, and my daughter ordered fish tacos and the food came out almost immediately. When I say immediately, I mean immediately. Like we had just ordered, I was two sips into my beer and the meals came. Well, how can you prepare crab cakes that quickly or fish tacos for that matter, unless the food was already cooked ahead and left sitting out, and then warmed up? The crab cakes were disappointing to say the least. I would say the owners should take note of several people's comments about the change in the menu! read more

After I heard so many amazing things about this place, I started trying to plan a trip to the outlets just so that I could try it. The first time I managed to get out there (it's super far from me) it was closed for renovations!!! Sad. The chef was inside painting and drinking a beer. Word. The second time I tried, they were closed again! The third time I called before, and I'm glad I did because OH MY CRABCAKE! Usually I don't really prefer them to be deep fried crisp, but it works here. The crabcake sandwich, served with a caper and red pepper tartar sauce is so good it has the ability to make you cry. Like actual tears of joy on my...er, I mean your face. The bun is crisp and fresh, the fries are actually crusted with what tastes like old bay and some SUGAR. BRILLIANT. Amazing. The staff is great; helpful, fast. They're all young kids, so they have pep, and it looks like they have fun at work which speaks volumes about the owners. Also, I've had special orders before, like making a salad with more veggies and greens and having a crabcake on top, and boy did they deliver. That was a huge injection of micronutrients that was, at the time, much needed. Did I mention this place is a BYOB? I can't express how much I love BYOBs. Anyway, I'm so grateful that my boyfriend wouldn't stop talking my ear off about how very much he loved the place to the point where we went three times before being served. So I fought my wife when she asked me to go out tonight in Flemington to the Blue Fish Grill. But I gave in since it was a while since we had a night out without the kids. Man, I am glad I gave in.... This place was AWESOME. I ordered wings as an appetizer. Best wings I have had in NJ. I asked our waiter Karim (who you thought was part owner - he was attentive, friendly and knew the menu like he was the chef) how they made these wings. They smoke their wings first and finish them off on the fryer. Juicy and perfectly cooked. The hot sauce is homemade and damn good. For my entree I had mex-Cali burrito. My wife had fish tacos. Both of these were great - job well done with the favors. Everything we ate was thoughtfully done. This will be our go to spot in Flemington!!!! read more

We've been coming here for quite few years now, although less frequent nowadays than in the past. I loved their original location where I still think they served the food better than current location. Not to say it isn't good here now, it's just different but just as good. I usually order tacos, al cartel items with grilled seafood. So last visit which was few weeks ago with my husband and boys, I ordered the Latin bowl. Awesome! Blue Fish Grill moved down the street. The new place is much nicer in every way launching Blue Fish into the 5 star category. There are some questionable downsides like the fact that the prices may have went up (just a little) and the menu has changed (just a little) but that's o.k. the menu is arguably better and I don't mind paying more when there is nothing else out there this good, healthy, and unique for the price. Lastly I have to admit I'm a little turned off by the ritzy environment. But now Blue Fish can be a place to take your friends, boss, family and it still doubles as healthy take out. This place is a "fish shack"; not a restaurant. So don't expect fine china or cloth napkins. Just be happy that they don't use plastic knives and forks. Napkins are replaced with rolls of paper towels on each table. Want a wine glass for your BYOB - it is a plastic cup. But the food is very good and an excellent price value. As long as fish shack is OK by you; give it a try. Be aware that the place gets crowded in a hurry. Tables inside seat about forty. A large group might have a problem getting seated together. Several outside tables for better weather. Service was good, fast and friendly. My only gripe was that the kitchen sent out our entrees before we finished the appetizer. On our first visit we split an order of mussels to start - good but the sauce was under-seasoned. Salmon was very good, as were the grilled shrimp. Fries were outstanding. Having just had twins, my wife and I can really only get out once a month for a meal together. Needless to say, sometimes it does't happen during 'regular' dinner hours. On a beautiful Tuesday night, we were in the mood for some seafood. It was 7:50pm, so we looked up Blue Fish Grill - darn only open until 8pm. My wife called anyway and where as most restaurants I have dealt with would say no, the girl who answered the phone was extremely welcoming, encouraging us to come in, even though they were 'closing' in the next few minutes. My next concern was that we would feel rushed going this close to closing. Couldn't have been more wrong with this concern. The place was surprisingly fairly crowded and we were welcomed and treated as if they would let us stay all night. A HUGE part of this experience was our waiter, Karim. He was one of the friendliest, attentive, warming servers I've ever encountered - a really great guy (even if he is a Patriots fan!). He treated us exceptional and the pride he took in his job, you would have thought he owned the business. Can't say enough about this guy. I had the Tuna, my wife and the Mahi Mahi - both were fresh and flavorful. Atmosphere is awesome. A must try if you're in the area! read more

It's my first time here in several months and it turns out that they got rid of my two top menu items, along with other things. The bfg tacos and grilled catfish po'boy were the only items I would order. Had I known they got rid of them I would not have come. I drive 35 minutes from piscataway for those two menu items. I reluctantly ordered the blackened shrimp tacos instead. Not nearly as good. I doubt I'll be coming back. What a shame. I used to love BFG. read more

Indoor and outdoor seating available for this family style restaurant. It's in a row of small mom and pop places and they're nice to walk through on this Saturday afternoon. I ordered the Tokyo taco that was $11 with $2 extra for fries. Reviewers are not exaggerating with the quality of food; this was amazing. The salmon was made with love and expert grilling! Consistently great! I have been coming to Blue Fish for quite some time. They always have a consistently great menu, and prepare the seafood to perfection. Note, I have never tried anything other than the seafood dishes. Everything is fresh!! You can see it when you are served, how vibrant the colors are, and the flavors all POP. Menu is straight forward with a lot of favorites of mine...mussels, always great!! They do add curry to them, so take note...but I love em'!!! Although they have a great menu, I have come to the conclusion that I ALWAYS order whatever their weekly special is, so I reserve from reviewing the menu anymore and wait for on of the pleasant staff to inform me what I'll be ordering each visit, lol! I have never had a bad experience, in either the quality of the food, or the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff. It is BYOB, which helps with price, and Lone Eagle is a short walk away, making it very convenient. I highly recommend them if you are in the Flemington area. read more

We were skeptical because we are very particular about seafood as so many restaurants do it so very bad. Plus Flemington has so so restaurants. However, Blue Fish made an impression on us immediately. It is just as good if not better than some fish places in Annapolis. First, it's very casual. Paper towels for napkins and paper plates to eat on. Don't come hear and expect 1st class amenities. It's a finger food fish joint folks!! Second, it's cheap. Oh and I should mention it's BYOB which is a huge plus. So bring a six pack of beer or bottle of wine and sit outside and feast away. Try the fish tacos and the onion rings. This is a great little place in a block of artsy buildings (a gallery, coffee shop and sometimes farmers market). They have indoor and outdoor dining offered and we sat outside and enjoyed the nice weather in a quiet spot of tables lined up to view the street. The Baja tacos were excellent and so was the French fries. The cod was nice and crispy and fresh. Others at the table were equally happy with their items. The menu is really small, and some items are a little pricey for being a la cart. That's my only complaints. The waiter was very attentive and overall I would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys seafood or bistro dining. The outside dining has a nice view of all the pretty houses on the block as well, that's a nice bonus. read more

I don't know what all the craze is about this place. I went there to get some grilled fish, I wasn't wowed. The others that are giving 5 stars for this place makes me wonder what am I missing. My fish was cooked ok, was it fresh... I wouldn't say omg fresh but it was decent... The fries were ok.. Paper plate service I dont mind as long as the food is killer good. I have had some of my best meals from street vendors or people cooking on the beach and hole in the wall spots. So with this place I don't want to give them less than three stars b/c their food is not terrible but its nothing worth going out of your way for. As I skimmed through some of the other reviews I gathered that so many people think so highly of this place b/c they are comparing to chain restaurant food or other places that I would normally wouldn't ever get fish at. So my opinion of this place, if you are in the mood for fish, I would say try it b/c there aren't many fish places in this area. The only other place for take out is in lebanon, nj. Its not bad, but its not great, its ok. I remember that I wasn't happy for the price I paid, I think I paid almost $16 (could be less or more just guessing) for a piece of grilled fish and fries on a paper plate with a drink. I was pretty pissed when I left b/c I was hungry and would have made a better meal if I went to the supermarket and got their crap fish and did it at home. So for the price I wasn't happy with what I got, I will go back to see if they can change my opinion but if I go back and I feel the same way then I will never go back. I thought I was going crazy and just called a friend before posting this review b/c I felt weird posting a 3 start review when most others are at 4 and 5 stars. My friend is a chef, he said he would never bother going there that the food is blah and overpriced. Now I feel better posting my 3 stars, he wants me to give them 1 to 2 stars at best. The wait was about half an hour which we expected due to the line for the restaurant...unfortunately once we were seated the waiter took extra long to come around which wasn't a promising sign. Very simple decor. Truly, nothing fancy to look out. HOWEVER, our waiter Kareem was incredibly friendly, social, and provided great context and recommendations from the menu. I had the scallops and my husband had the tuna. The homemade sauces and gouda mashed potatoes were awesome. The key lime pie was homemade and incredible. The kids are right, this is a fish place, not a seafood restaurant. It's no frills, no reservations, plastic plates and cups, paper towels instead of napkins, BYOB. The kids are also right in that it is our first choice for eating out. The menu is so varied that we could go there weekly for years and never have the same thing twice. The food is amazing and cheap and the portions are generous. Husband and I once shared the BFG mussels appetizer, and were both stuffed before our meals arrived. I love the "From the Grill" selections, which allow you to custom make your meal with your fish, sauce and side of choice. The regular old Fish & Chips always hit the spot. There are always a few specials, too. If I had to pick one dish that I liked the best, it would be the Teriyaki Salmon Tacos, but I've loved every meal I've ever had there. I've never had one of their non-fish dishes, and neither should you. The name of the place is Blue FISH Grill - what are you doing ordering the burger at a fish place, you wacko? Cons: - I feel like I'm killing the environment a little every time I eat there with all the plastic plates and cups. - Only one dessert on the menu, but we are always too stuffed for it anyway. In a nutshell: You should be eating there at least once a week. Nom, nom, nom! Update: BFG moved and now uses real plates. It's new home is much more upscale. We've been going here for a long time, even at their previous location, so obviously we love the place. However, tonight, we had the WORST service EVER! We were ignored by our server, Kim. She got our drinks and took our order and disappeared. When she finally brought us our food, she didn't bother to refill our drinks, which were empty. I asked her twice for vinegar, never got it. She never once checked on us during our meal...completely ignored us! It was unacceptable! This is very unlike any other experience we've had there, and it was very disappointing. They changed locations to a new place a few years ago. The food is great, presentation was sub par. The price was also on the expensive side. They used to serve with paper plates and Plastic utensils. Very weak presentation and honestly over priced.
