We have been frequenting BFG for almost 5 years. Drive 25 miles just to dine here - the food was that good. However, the quality has changed in the past few months. Recently ordered Fish & Chips and was disappointed to find that the fish was mostly batter. In the three pieces that were served, in total there was less than the equivalent of one decent filet. Another person in our party ordered the same with the same result. Needless to say we will not be ordering Fish & Chips again. The cheddar mashed potatoes had been outstanding in the past, but they are now just average. Not sure what has changed. Six months ago I would have given BFG 5 stars. If the quality issues are not addressed, sorry to say that the food will no longer be worth the drive. read more

My biggest complaint with Blue Fish Grill is they aren't closer. Stopped in today for lunch with my fiancee and my dog DeeDee and as usual had a great experience. First time there with my dog and was happy to see that not only did they not have a problem with her being there, but also brought her a water bowl without me even asking. Outdoor seating is great and really no reason to sit inside if the weather is nice. Started off with a fresh brewed iced tea which had free refills (always a plus). For an appetizer we went with BFG house salad which we split. It was a huge plate of napa cabbage, crispy wontons, mangos, candied pecans, and tossed in Asian vinaigrette. It was very good and I especially enjoyed the candied pecans. For my entree I went with my standard ahi tuna rare with the wasabi vinaigrette as my sauce and I chose the grilled broccoli as my side. For just over 12 dollars you get a big piece of tuna cooked perfectly over a wood fired grill and chose of sauce and chose of side. The wasabi sauce has great flavor and a little bit of that horseradish kick to it. Also a great chose for a side is the cheddar mashed potatoes. Our server was friendly and helpful and everything we needed he got and did so quickly. BFG is BYOB so if you want to drink stop by a liquor store first and grab some beer or wine. read more

This place is a small slice of paradise. We had calamari for appetizer with banana peppers and it was delicious. I had the Baja tacos and my wife had the kale salad with shrimp. Everything was outstanding including the service. My wife had a bottle of wine from a local vineyard and she loved it. Will definitely being coming here once a month!!!! read more

The first time at Blue Fish I had the Mahi Latin Bowl which was plentiful and was delicious. The second time I had the Fish and Chips which was average. I've had better and I've had worst at other restaurants. What I would not order is the Mojo Mariscos which is what my son ordered. It is their seafood plate with shrimp, scallops, mussels in a light brown sauce served with rice. The problem was the sauce had no flavor at all and it came with mostly mussels. He was very disappointed in his meal. The other meals that my family ordered was very good, like the shrimp taco. read more

Great meal and service! Only thing I dislike is the use of generic condiments. The fries were great but without Heinz ketchup they were not excellent. Plus when a restaurant is cheap with what I can see on the table I am afraid of the ingredients they are using in the kitchen. read more

They recently moved from the old location, doubled the prices and reduced the quality of food served. The building is ugly. Their prices are high but they don't even have napkins, only a roll of paper towels. We miss the old place. read more

It had been a while since I was at Blue Fish Grill. I was glad my buddy suggested it for a "guys night out". Happy to see they take reservations now and they've expanded. i've been back to bfg's probably six or seven times since my inaugural meal and haven't been disappointed once. just today, in fact, they had swordfish tacos as a special, and after finishing them in about five minutes flat, i threw my napkin down and declared it the best meal i have had at bfg's, thus far. therefore, i am raising my rating from four stars to five. read more

Let me first say that I used to rave about this place. I had a less than stellar experience tonight. Our food took forever to come out and I ordered the Latin Mahi Bowl and the fish was overcooked and luke warm. I am also extremely disappointed by the children's menu as all the food was fried and not anything my daughter could/would eat. I asked if they could make a small portion of sautéed shrimp for my daughter instead and the chef/owner said no because the food is already portioned out in the kitchen. Really? Nice vibe of a neighborhood hangout and gem. Easy parking a few steps away. Very friendly front desk and service, almost too friendly. Reservations are a must, there is always a long wait otherwise. Minimalist decor, pared down to utilitarian, but it doesn't matter, because the place is humming and warm. Bring your own wine, unless you're into the local NJ offerings. The menu is a-okay. We ordered an entree from the specials and two appetizers as the other dinner. The food was well prepared and nicely presented, we enjoyed it a lot. Amazingly, they were already out of the caramelized plantains by 7:15 pm. They were probably very good. BUT: don't go there hungry, the kitchen is extremely slow, slower than a snail. It took about 35-40 minutes for our food to arrive and by then you could get nicely buzzed sipping your wine, because there are no nibbles, amuse-bouches or even crackers until your first dish makes its appearance. The only dessert offered, key lime pie is well worth eating, but a restaurant menu like this one practically cries out for some sorbet or gelato to cleanse the palate. Maybe soon. Blue Fish Grill has a wood-burning oven that gives all of its seafood dishes a subtle, smoky flavor that is not overpowering. Being a creature of habit I almost always order the Latin Mahi Bowl which comes with the grilled mahi-mahi, black beans, plantains and salsa fresca. This dish is off-the-hook good. Also, try their fish tacos which have a creamy, crunchy, tangy flavor that perfectly complements the fish but doesn't overpower it. Order a side of the french fries which have the combination of being salty, a bit sweet and are delicately fried - these disappear quickly and are a big hit with my family. Dont forget to save room for their signature key lime pie which brings any meal at this restaurant to an outstanding close. For those looking to keep their personal cash flow down, Blue Fish is a BYOB that keeps this restaurant's phone number on my contact list. Get there early or late because they're almost always busy during peak dining hours. For seafood lovers looking for a fresh, inexpensive, filling dinner - this place cant be beat. read more

I ate at the restaurant several times at their old location, which was very relaxed and casual, sunny and bright. I enjoyed the food then and felt it was reasonably priced and very fresh. Since they moved to the old Stangel Factory, I can't say I'm a fan of the new decor - it's like sitting in a basement - and it feels less casual and friendly, but I still really enjoy the food. I also noticed the prices went up when they moved so I don't feel it's quite as good a value for the money as it used to be. Still,I love the skirt steak and the mashed potatoes and the pesto butter. My companions both had fish and chips which they enjoyed, but they looked incredibly greasy to me and looked like they were cooked in old, dirty oil. We liked our friendly waiter. Felt it took quite a while for our food to arrive but when it did, it was good and hot! I would probably eat there more often if the prices were just a little more reasonable. read more

After shopping at the Flemington outlets, decided to try this spot on a whim. Glad we did. I had the grilled tilapia and wife had the grilled shrimp. Both were very good. However, the icing on the cake were the shoe string fries, my favorite kind. BFG prepare them differently (I think the waiter mentioned sugar), so while still fried, the fries are not super salty (which i hate). The menu has many fish selections but I did see steak on there as well. I saw a huge fish burrito served at the next table that looked really good. I also saw fish tacos, fish sandwiches, calamari, etc on the menu - think pub grub with a slant towards fish, but prepared with a bit more flair than pub grub. It's BYOB, always a plus that helps with the bill. Decor is modern but it's not fancy. Good music - Best of Johnny Cash was on during our meal, then changed to classic rock, both up my alley. Wait staff are attentive 20-30 somethings, our waiter pretty much did everything right. A hip little joint. We will be back. Worth your time if you're in the area. read more

To me, this was the perfect place for getting together with friends: first, it's a BYOB, but there are wine offerings if need be. Secondly, there are dinner options at all different price points, and a mix of healthful and not-so-healthful items. Also, the food was all delicious and fresh-tasting. As a bonus, they have outside dining in nice weather, but if you're stuck inside it is comfortable and clean. I wish Blue Fish Grill was closer to me, because I will be craving those plantains and calamari for a while. read more

My crab cake was all crab and no filler which was awesome since I've only had that in Delaware. The fries are 100% addicitive. My DH had the fire grilled mahi mahi and devoured it..he wishes it was served as a sandwich on a nice ciababatta bread...bottom line is that if we ever find ourselves in Flemington again, we'd go back in a second. We stopped here for a late lunch after an afternoon out with the kids. Our meals were absolutely fabulous. The boys loved their chicken tender platters from the kids menu (the fries are awesome, too) My Latin Mahi Mahi was fantastic. My wife's tilapia was delicious. The fish prepared on the wood fired grill was the perfect preparation. My wife has to eat gluten free, and they easily accommodated her request. Our waiter Karim was great....super friendly and knowledgeable. The service and food is excellent. The freshest ingredients. This place was pretty delicious. My food tasted fresh and flavorful. A bit disappointed in the cost of the sides, especailly the grilled pineapple. Although it was very tasty, it was way expensive for what you get. We ate inside on a nice day, but there were a lot of flies swarming around inside and that was really gross and annoying while trying to eat. It did hinder our experience a bit, but maybe going back in the winter when flies are less of an issue would be a better idea. read more

Meeting friends in Flemington which is the half way point for each. Googled restaurants for a suggest and Blue Fish Grill just seemed like one we would all like. We all loved it! The crab melt special was scrumptious (3 of us had it) as was the teriyaki salmon. Our waiter made the evening such fun, he did not hover or bother us. I have usually never had an issue here and I have eaten here and always been very pleased. I ordered today for lunch and I was very upset with what I got. The menu online was not correct and I did not get what I ordered. When I called to fix my order and get what I asked for I was told that no one can help me I will have to order again and pay again! The salad was not up to par there was nothing in it other then lettuce with dirt on it and a side of dressing. I am very upset with the outcome of this order and hoped I would get help when I called but that is not what I received. We are as well a local business and I am upset with how we were treated my first timers for here were very unpleased. read more

He was pleasantly surprised to find things like burgers and chicken, but he did try to the crabcake - and loved it! I had shrimp with gaucomole dip and veggies, it was excellent. I have never been with someone who did not love it. The prices have gone up considerably on the last few years for a picnic table setting but the food is great. Love this place. Went again tonight at the request of my 8 year old daughter. She wanted the mussels and tilapia with pesto. I must say she was not disappointed. She and my 3 1/2 year old devoured the mussels and dipped the bread in sauce when they were done. I got the ahi tuna tacos and they were delicious. Can't wait for next visit. read more
