We love Blue Highway Games! The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable about the games, but not pushy at all. They wait until you ask about something and then share all they know. The store itself is large and well organized and even has an area where you can test out store copies of different games. We also love that they have different game tournaments and might be trying our first Settlers of Catan tourny sometime soon. Yay for Blue Highway -- we won't be buying our games anywhere else in Seattle now that we've found it. :) read more

This is my personnel favorite board game store in Seattle. The best part is the wide selection of board games available to play test. They encourage you to come in with some friends sit down and play a game. Makes actually buying way easier when you have actually played a game. Additionally the store itself is really nice. my family loves to play card games. i'm horrible at remembering rules, so i usually don't participate :) i knew that a good game for all of us to play together would be a great christmas gift for the whole family, but i wasn't sure where to look... and then i found this store. Love to come here and try out the games. They carry a lot of unusual board games that you just can't find at most places. The staff is friendly and helpful. They will also assist you, once you have purchased a game and don't quite understand how to play! The games are priced pretty high, but if your into board games you can appreciate Blue Highway and get past the price tag. It's also nice to support a local game store than a huge chain like Wal-Mart, so I happily would pay more for a unique game. read more

This game store is great! Wish I lived closer...but that's probably good because I would probably end up buying one of almost everything. The selection is awesome and the staff are really knowledgeable and can point you in the right direction if you are unsure of what is right for you. Stores here in the Portland area don't really come close to the all around quality of this store. This place is worth the extra few dollars you'll pay for games. The staff really knows their stuff, and one employee took quite a bit of time to teach my son and husband how to play Pokemon (which, shockingly, incorporates math and reading!) It's a wonderful place to spend an afternoon, and now we're regulars. read more

I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place yet. I've been going here for years hanging out with gamers, buying games and having a grand old time. This is one of my top ten favorite places anywhere ever. I come here on as many friday or saturday nights as I can. I've met a whole community of friends here and many of them came to my wedding. The staff is super helpful and friendly and the shop is downright gorgeous. I honestly can't think of anything bad about this place. For a pessimist like me that's saying something. read more

Just when I thought Cloud Cap Games in Portland had a great selection, Blue Highway exceeds expectations! I came here looking for a Christmas gift and of course I was tempted to get something else from the large selection of board/card games in stock. This is a really good place to come with friends and try some new games you have never seen before. Their selection included many of the mainstream games plus a few unusual ones that would be worth playing before buying. When I came on a Saturday night, there were a lot of people at the tables playing various games. The store has some simple snacks for purchase (a way to give back to the store for having so many awesome games). The prices appeared to be pretty fair to what I have seen at other places. Will definitely return to both buy games and try new ones with friends (or strangers). read more

We usually get our board game fix at Fun Again Games in Ashland, OR. But we were traveling through Seattle and decided to give Blue Highway Games a try. They were awesome!! They were helpful, had played the games we were asking about so were able to offer advice and descriptions, and they were very personable. They also had an area set aside with a ton of games to try out, look at the parts, read directions, or sit down and play. This is a great game store. Sorry, Fun Again! My original go-to game shop. Lately it seems like the children have taken over, and it can be a little irritating to be shoved/ bumped or to deal with the smell of teen spirit. I'd recommend the smell of baking cookies to cover the BO and curtains to close off the open gaming areas. Those can be super-chaotic and obtrusive to the shopping experience. Staff is very good/ helpful, and I have had several games reserved for me with great success/ ease here. read more

Been playing games for the past four years. A couple of weeks ago, my friend alerted the game group of a Dominion tournament to be held at BHG. We signed up and went (Sat 9/29). This was my first time going to BHG, so keep that in mind when reading. 1) Cozy place. Definitely has that neighborhood feel that matches Queen Anne. They have a few tables towards the back and a few upstairs for you to check out and try games. Place was well kept, clean, and organized. Fun, yet still professional. 2) Good selection. Didn't feel too overwhelmed with corridors of games. They had all of the games I like, so I would assume that I would enjoy many of the other games they had available for sale. 3) Nice service. The guy who I rang up my game order (impulse buy on the new Dominion base set cards...20% off all Dominion games and I won the $5 gift certificate random drawing) was nice and polite. They have a point system where you get points for any purchase over $10. My purchase was $9.30, but he game me a point anyway, and a couple extra just because it was my first time. Small things like that leave a positive impression on me. 4) Tournament/challenges are fun. Never played in a tournament before, so it was a really fun experience. BHG ran a well-organized Dominion tournament that filled all of the tables. Apparently they host a different tournament each month. It's a great way to meet fellow games, improve your skill, and maybe even win some prizes. 5) Easy to find parking. It's Queen Anne, so chances are that you'll find parking within a 2 block radius. That's good to know when it's cold/rainy outside and the last thing you want to do is fret over parking far away. Overall, very positive experience at BHG. Would definitely go back. read more

Blue Highway hosted a Pokemon party for our 8yo and we couldn't be happier. Each kid got a new deck to play with and take home, and all the instruction he wanted. Max and Scott were great with the kids, engaging and funny without any hint of condescension. 8 years is their lower age limit for parties, so I was worried the staff might not relate so well with the younger crowd, but I loved how how they interacted with the kids. Max, especially, was fun to watch with the boys, challenging them without being imposing. They made a point to also have non-Pokemon games so that everyone could feel included. It's weird to say, but they put together a very thoughtfully designed party. And, of course, the store itself is just amazing. Very, very pleased. read more

Wanted to give Blue Highway a hearty thumbs up, from the perspective of my son and the Friday Night Magic tournament for kids. Staff is great with teaching and managing up to 30-ish 8-13 year olds. We are completely comfortable just dropping him off and picking him up for the 4-6PM event. It is a great way to introduce kids to the game without the pressure of some of the bigger venues and older players. But that doesn't mean there isn't some good competition, some of the players are pretty good for their age. All for $6! And they always walk away with a prize. read more

This is my favorite game store in Seattle. The selection is excellent and the staff really knows their stuff--ask them to recommend a game or teach you one from their enormous library collection. Speaking of the library: it's great, and it's all right there at your fingertips. Card Kingdom in Ballard may have more games to borrow, but Blue Highway doesn't make you wait in line at a counter to request one. The gaming space is large (upstairs and downstairs), and they have a nice selection of canned/bottled craft beers and soda available for purchase. The store runs special sales and events consistently, so check their calendar online to see what's going on. The games are priced very competitively, usually within a dollar or two of online retailers. (Did you know that there's a special place in hell for people who play Blue Highway's demo games and then buy them off amazon? It's true.). My only complaint about Blue Highway is that the cleaning product they use has a strong scent, especially if you're sitting near the bathroom. read more

Eclectic selection of games including imports straight from the Essen Spiel in Germany to the occasional out-of-print gem (I snagged a copy of Walnut Grove for a relative song). Has a welcoming vibe compared to many hobby shops. The staff never pestered me but was quite helpful with questions. read more

Really great little shop. They have a big library of games you can try for free and you don't even have to buy food. It wasn't crowded when we went (weekday morning during the summer). I spent an hour trying to figure out a game with my three kids and the staff didn't care at all. Since I figured it out and now my 10 year old wants it for his birthday, I'm definitely going to go back there to buy it! read more

Blue Highway is easily my favorite toy store. I live at the base of Queen Anne and walk to the top with my girlfriend and our dog about once a week and we can never help ourselves when we pass by - we have to go in. The staff are incredibly helpful and if you can describe what type of game you are looking for they will offer you many recommendations (they seem to know every single game in the store by memory) that you've probably never heard of. The selection is awesome, they have everything from collectable card games to board games, puzzles, kits, role playing games... really excellent selection. On the weekends they have an ongoing pokemon league for kids that I've taken my 8 y/o nephew to and had a blast at, and Matt will run Dungeons and Dragons games for patrons (adults, and ones just for kids too) often. I can't speak highly enough about this store. read more

Blue Highway is a cozy neighborhood game shop. I've been here a few times to check out games I'd heard about and to look for hard-to-find games. They have a great selection. I had been looking for a while for a nice Chinese Mahjong set, which is pretty hard to find in the US, and they had several good choices. They carry board and card games, and the best part is you can try their games for free in the shop. They have a bunch of tables just for this purpose and a huge number of games ready to play. The one thing I wasn't too pleased about was that I requested some Euro-sized card sleeves, and it took them two months to get them in stock. They were up-front about the expected delay when I requested them, though, so it was fine. read more

Every game they sell they have in their "library" where you can find a copy and play it in the store at on of the many tables available. Great place to go on a weekend, stop on your way there for a cup of coffee and bring it with to go play a game. Wonderful staff. Great selection and lots of games to try out while there. Pokémon club on Saturday mornings is a respite for all the quirky kids in Seattle to find like minded pals. Frankly for our child it is a Godsend. The employees even help out the little ones who don't really know what they are doing. So much patience. They even came to a dance at our local middle school and set up lots of games, taught the kids to play. Super asset to the Seattle community. Also great games for those of us over 30. read more

I started by calling in to see if they had the specific board game that I was looking for and both the staff members that I talked to were so friendly and VERY helpful. He knew exactly what I wanted and explained to me that it was no longer available and then took the time to explain to me other options even though it is Christmas Eve and I knew the store must have been very busy he didn't seem irritated or rushed. I decided to go in. The store itself was lively and welcoming and I was helped immediately. The man who appeared to be the manager again took the time to show me everything he had and what was popular and even explained a few things to me, as I was buying a game I had no clue about. The store was very busy as I said it is Christmas Eve but he was calm, friendly, and more than helpful, and he seemed to have helped everyone who needed it. Love this place! It seems like they carry pretty much every game that exists... And the staff is very knowledgeable on the selection, which is wonderful. Oh, and I LOVE the fact that they have a library of games to take for a test-drive at one of the many game tables in the store. My brother and I like to come on Friday nights and spend a few hours playing...seems that a lot of others have the same idea, because there are definitely plenty of regulars that we see there.
