I've been here a couple of times because a friend of mine likes the Sunday brunch(but she only eats the fruit). All I can say is meh I've had much better. Everything at the buffet always seems like it might have been there from the previous Sundays brunch. The food at best is average. Now comes my big problem, I could probably quickly get over that if my drinks were good. I swear they use sour orange juice for the mimosas. I was here on travel from work, and stayed at nearby hotel. Spent quite a few nights at the blue iguana and I must say everything about the place was awesome. The service was great and outstanding. My co workers and I left the bar for another restaurant that was having corn beef and cabbage. We brought the servers back some and had it on our table. Then the manager came and asked us to put the food from another establishment away, we kindly said it was for his servers. He was surprised we would do that and bought us all a round of shots and beers. The atmosphere is great and the food is great. I enjoyed the ettoufee and jambalaya. I would definitely recommend. The place seems always filled and more of a classy dive bar then a hole in the wall. But definitely the managers are young and very good with customers. Thanks guys! read more

I dropped by in early June 2014 because my commute along the Fairfax County Parkway was too backed up. I figured I'd have a drink and dinner and get back on the road when the traffic cleared. I was waited on by a nice girl named Amy. The menu selection is Louisiana inspired. I had the pecan crusted chicken and it was positively 5-star. The chef prepared the side of brussel sprouts in a way I'd never had before: peeled or shredded, but then sauteed until it was crispy almost like potato chips. Unusual and very tasty. The chicken was thick and well-trimmed, completely coated in crushed pecans, with a mustard sauce on the side. Excellent chicken, expertly cooked. Don't let the strip mall location fool you. Their chef could be rocking his own restaurant some day. Fantastic. read more

If it weren't for the friendly staff I would likely give them 2 stars. My wife and I went there for Valentine's Day dinner because we had been there years before and had a good experience. Right when we walked in this time the place seemed different. The ambiance was way off from the blue paint, to the fluorescent light bulbs, to the wine glasses. It felt more like a diner than the menu would suggest. The food was okay but woefully underseasoned. The ahi tuna starter was not freshly seared and was pretty cold. Based on the texture I would not be surprised if it had been frozen. From ordering to receiving the check took over two hours. Normally I would attribute it to a busy kitchen on Valentine's Day, but honestly the place was not that busy. read more

Blue Iguana has never failed to give great customer service. The staff is so friendly and caters to your needs and the host is very warm and welcoming. The manager is so nice and makes sure that everything is in an orderly manner. The food is perfect! My favorite dish is the botana burrito. If you haven't tried it, you must. It's a blend of everything together and very mouthwatering. I recommend this place to everyone. We have been here several time since the Virginia No Smoking law came into affect. Before, I always felt this was more a bar scene (with a lot of smoking). The bar scene is still lively but the smoking takes place just outside the front door. So, it is not very welcoming. The food is good, not great. The staff is very friendly and they are good about covering the mistakes of the kitchen. I agree that the Bread Pudding is excellent! read more

My husband & I had not been to the Blue Iguana in a few years. We then heard it was under new ownership & decided to give it another try this past Tuesday. What a wonderful surprise! The food is fresh, well seasoned & delicious! The hot food is hot & the cold food is cold. The restaurant is extremely clean, as well as the restrooms. Robb, our server, was very courteous and friendly. Clifton, the new owner introduced himself to us and made us feel right at home. I had the lobster roll -- YUM! My husband was craving a crab cake sandwich - the chef made him one even though it wasn't on the menu! Wow! For those of you who are looking for a great local restaurant with delicious food, fantastic service & a congenial atmosphere, I highly recommend the Blue Iguana! Sunday brunch was going okay at first. Bartender was very nice and helpful. So we are eating our plate full of food when we see the chef/general manager blowing his nose, digging in his nose, throw a dish towel over his shoulder along with his pony tail and go to the buffet and check on the food, get a plate of food, and sit down to eat the food without washing his hands. So thought we would give the place a try for Father's Day as they have a Sunday brunch for $13.95. The food is mediocre at best and you're honestly getting what you paid for. The dessert station was one dessert so you can either like it or lump it. Wasn't impressed at all and won't be going back. Had this place on my list to try for a long time - I wish i had tried it sooner! My family was sure missing out. We enjoyed our first time so much , we have come back quite regularly. The staff if friendly and very conversational...but not in the awkward ' we have to be friendly' way. The owner (or maybe manager) is frequently seen on the floor lending a hand whereever is necesary - very efficient and quick service all around. The food is great too. I celebrated my 21st bday here on a SUNDAY night and it was loads of fun! I honestly wasn't expecting many people to be there but the bar was pretty busy! The bartenders are super nice and friendly. I was definitely the youngest one there because the crowd consisted of people in their late 20s and into their 30s. That didn't matter to me though, I had fun with everyone! I didn't have any of the food so I can't comment on that although my friend I was with drunkenly managed to finesse some pizza from a neighboring table and she loved it. Under new ownership, everything that made this place a favorite across-the-street hangout and brunch destination has been utterly savaged and erased. The menu has been shredded and the Sunday brunch - easily the best feature for years - has been downgraded into an embarrassing mess. Cold pancakes, warm bloody mary, overcooked eggs benedict, and a stunningly incompetent inability to (1) keep their measly ten items stocked and (2) keep the omelette/wafffle/carving station staffed were the lowlights of today's meal. Someone told me the new owner has a few other local restaurants as well; someone please tell me what they are so i can avoid them like the plague. read more

Honestly one of my favorite places to eat ever!! The food is so delicious, service is outstanding and the staff makes you feel so welcome. The nachos and chicken nuggets with tater tots are my favorite as well as their Sunday Brunch. The service is so quick and the hostesses are always so welcoming and sweet, especially Star!!! This place used to be amazing. They have had a change of ownership over the last year. Me and my manager went in this past week and as we entered this guy walked by and looked at us and goes "food poisoning". We looked at each other and figured we would still give it a go. We walked in and we should have walked out. Place was empty which was the first bad sign and then all you could smell was cleaner covering up the bar smell. Another huge bad sign. I know the place is old and used to be amazing but if you clean correctly you will never get that bar smell especially today when you are no longer able to smoke in places. We sat at the bar. The female bartender must hate life. She was so miserable she made us miserable. Had no personality. no hello's...no how ya doing... nothing....at first I wondered if she was mute. The phone rang and she started bitching to her boss about people hanging up all week. Either way it got to a point where me and my manager got pretty sarcastic. Were in sales and know how to throw zingers with people not even knowing they are being thrown. He got the wings. Not hot.... dry... little taste. I got the Jambalaya,, sauce tasted like spicy spaghetti sauce... shrimp was chewy with no taste... sausage tasted like a hot dog.... All I know is that this place used to rock... now it has hit rock bottom... I normally would give a place a second shot but I worked in the industry for years and when a place gets that smell.... well that speaks volumes. The Blue Iguana was closed for several weeks and re-opened this week (July 29th). I work close by and have eaten here once every month or two for the past 2 years. It was badly in need of a facelift and it has received one. There is new flooring, paint, and furniture. It looks like they have also expanded the patio area and provided umbrellas. The menu is new, but similar to what they had before. They had nice lunch specials this week as part of their new grand opening. I had a very good salad with grilled chicken, mushrooms, goat cheese, asparagus and roasted red peppers. I enjoyed every bite. Others in my party had Panini sandwiches and they were also very good. The service was quick and everything now looks to be very clean (including the bathrooms). I will most certainly be back more often. read more

We went here for my belated birthday dinner and ordered Beef Satay, Calamari, Pan Seared Breast of Duck, and Chicken Paillard. I can't decide if I love their food or staff more? Their staff is one of the best I have had the honor of experiencing. Working at Hooters for a decade with their 12 steps of service and extensive training I secretly judge every place I frequent and hold them to same standards that I hold myself and they pass with flying colors every time no matter how busy or packed they get. Their bar is small, but it is no match for Drew and Ian who keep the customers thirsts quenched. Those two behind the bar a deadly duo and I love seeing them in action. I don't go there often, but when I do it is always nice to see a friendly face, or in this case faces*. I love establishments that don't constantly go through employees and are able to retain them because that SAYS A LOT about the company. Blue Iguana is my favorite "hole in the wall" spot. This place is like Cheers. Everyone knows your name and remembers what you like. This is my go-to for any mood I am in. There is always something going on, whether it be a charity event, a menu tasting, a comedy show, or energizing DJs that transition the place from day to night effortlessly. As for the food, the menu has old favorites from the last 20 years such as perfect wings, botanas, and my favorite, the Blackened Chicken salad, in addition to new favorites such as the eclectic and homey tater tots menu, and breakfast all day. I just went to drink and smoke a cigar after work. Not a bad place to do so. A bit of an odd karaoke crowd tonight. Half awful and half good; a little more country for my taste.
