From myself and my wife's opinion This local landmark and somewhat reputable establishment touting great food was average and ordinary. The bar like atmosphere is reminiscent of a typical Florida semi seaside bar and grill with the crowd and locals to support it. My wife ordered the Caesar salad slightly modified with a skewer of shrimp and a crab cake which tasted slightly Old to best describe it by the after taste it left in her mouth and she has ordered this same meal at other eateries. I was apprehensive but ordered the cheese steak and fries which came out hot which pleased me the steak was tender and plentiful with mushrooms and onions. The fries were fresh honestly cut seasoned well and quite good. The challenge was finding something that wowed us and we couldn't so we passed on dessert. Unfortunately I couldn't muster anything over a 3 just based on the menu , average service and taste I guess if your in Nags Head give it a try for yourself maybe you will be floored? read more

The parking lot was slammed; there were cars parked on the grass... that must mean service was slow.... Nope, they were just slammed busy. It was awesome. Wonderful staff, very good drinks and an absolutely beautiful building. The fireplace is my favorite. We started off with some Buffalo shrimp which was veryyyyyy good. Miss Courtney had the Crab Cake Sandwich and I had the Oyster Dinner with a side of homemade Cheeze Whiz. I almost ordered more cheese whiz to go home. Service was wonderful!! As far as appetizers their seared scallops were the best I've ever had from a restaurant! So perfectly cooked and seasoned! It was served on top of seaweed salad. Calamari was soft and cooked well! Sauce was different but made it great! I was not a fan of the fish & chips. I personally wasn't a fan of the way the mahi mahi tasted.. everything on that entree was bland to me. I went on Wednesday, their daily specials was different from what it said on the sight. I had the swordfish and salad. The salad was great, but the swordfish was overcooked.. But I also had the flounder in a Po'Boy I believe.. and it was great!!!! We stopped in for lunch while waiting to be able to check into our AirBnB - Corey was our server and he was excellent! He was very attentive and was very down to earth and funny! Management; give Corey a raise!!! We had the Mahi Mahi BLT, Crab Cake Sandwich, Tenders, Fish Tacos and Cheesesteak Egg Rolls. The aioli for the BLT and Crab Cake was DELICIOUS!!! Great place for a casual dinner if you are riding solo or with friends. It is not a really frilly type place and that is one big reason why I enjoyed it so much. I enjoyed oysters and a chill vibe sitting at the bar. I will admit the bartender was super nice, but the drinks that were produced were weak on booze and heavier on sour. Just get a beer and you'll save yourself the trouble of weak drinks. Do expect a wait. This place is popular with the locals and tourists alike. Grab a drink and take a seat outside while you wait. Other option, put your name on the list and go occupy yourself somewhere else in the plaza until they call you. It is definitely a local haunt that stays open all year-round. read more

We returned here after loving our experience at the previous location a few years ago. Unfortunately this visit left a lot to be desired. The bartender that served us at the outdoor bar while waiting for our table was not only VERY slow (it was not terribly busy) but also rude. I worked in the service industry for a decade and have NEVER written a bad review for a server or bartender before but this was really bad. Our server at our table was wonderful (I wish I could remember her name!). Food was mediocre at best. My son had a burger which he liked, but my fish tacos were not great. Blue Moon Beach Grill seems to be popular among the locals. There's a bar you can sit at and tables for the family. There's some really cool beach art on the walls which all appeared to be for sale. T-shirts and other items as you come in the door are for sale so you can leave happy, full and take some memorabilia and memories with you if you like. They have Buffalo shrimp! What was I even eating? It's a chicken wing but shrimp. It's a shrimp wing, I clearly don't get around the country enough. This was my first plate of shrimp wings. They go really well with your favorite beer. The shrimp and grits were fantastic, I could explain why but it's just a dish you should try. I suspect you will think the same thing. Then there was the shrimp "not burger". What a find , I've never heard of it and certainly not tasted something like it before. It's blackened shrimp, green fried tomatoes, sharp provolone cheese on a toasted Telera roll with arugula, basil aioli and balsamic reduction. It comes with their own hand cut fries. The last time we were in town, we ordered takeout. We wanted to dine in and I'm so glad we did. The service was fantastic and food delicious! They did a great job with social distancing. We did not have anyone around us while dining. I had a cup of the New England clam chowder which rivaled what you can get up North - lots of chunks of clams and a wonderful buttery/creamy flavor. Wowee this place is yummy! We came in at 5:30 and got seated right away. Was a little tough to find the entrance but once we were in it was plenty of parking. We opted to sit outside but the indoor space was lovely. We ordered jerk tuna bites off the special menu and it was bomb especially with the La creama sauce. We ordered the shrimp and grits, the sandbar (off the special menu), and the fish tacos. All were really good but those shrimp and grits were on another level. The shrimp and grits was light but dense with flavor and I would have licked the plate to eat all the sauce had it have been socially acceptable. Highly recommend !!! read more

I own a house in South Nags Head and have been looking for a restaurant in the area worthy of going to with my husband who was raised by globe trotting foodies before "foodie" was likely a term. Anyone who comes here for vacation or temporarily in general likely knows that the night before going home is a great night to eat out as to not dirty the kitchen. We have tried other restaurants in the area and have been so underwhelmed with the inconsistency so I went to Blue Moon a few times with my just my daughter or her and a friend and decided I was safe taking my husband as Blue Moon has been incredibly super consistent in a town of temporary employees where service and quality is typically inconsistent. Hallelujah! Not only did my husband say his food was great (he wasn't super adventurous this time and ordered the fish and chips and a house caesar salad) he said that the fish and chips he had blew Gordon Ramsay's Fish and Chips Vegas restaurant out of the water (this is not saying Gordon Ramsay's is not good, it's speaking to how great Blue Moon's was). I can't speak to his food because we usually share and that wasn't happening with that dinner. I, on the other hand, ordered the Catch of the Day, Blackened Halibut over a risotto that was a perfect balance of sweet corn and savory goat cheese, balsamic reduction, and wilted spinach. My daughter, who usually orders fish, followed the path of her father and ordered a hamburger that was quality beef cooked to the perfect temp. Not only was the food amazing but the staff is super attentive! Our server was sure to check on us regularly making sure we had everything we needed and he was very kind and engaging. My daughter is only 6 and has a unique, older name after a song that he happened to know so since we arrived within an hour of them closing and the restaurant wasn't overcrowded (like it had been previous times that I visited and had similar experiences) he unknown to us went and requested the music be changed between songs to the radio station of the band that plays "her song." It did not go unnoticed by the six year old who has been to a dozen shows by this band and knows all their music. To wrap up this long rave, Ii's so refreshing to have an option for eating out that is as good or even way better than what I can cook in my personal South Nags Head kitchen with the phenomenal local seafood that we get locally like Blue Moon does. read more

Absolutely exceptional meal at Blue Moon Beach Grill. The atmosphere and ambiance were great. The food was near perfect. Calamari with the champagne lemon butter was amazing. Our table also had the Shrimp Bisque, Caesar salad with grilled chicken and the pork chop special. The bacon and caramelized onion on the salad was phenomenal. But the absolute best part of our meal was the extraordinary service from our waitress Breanna. She had the kid's meal put in right away, always ensured our cups were topped off, and went above and beyond to make our dining experience unforgettable. I ordered the cheese steak with no mushrooms and it was very good. A large portion that could easily be taken home and used for another meal. The cheese wiz was creamy and added a lot of flavour to the already tasty sandwhich. The only reason that I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is that the calamari was odd. It was lightly fried and served on top of some sort of butter sauce. Tasted as if regular butter was melted into some warm cream or milk. Would have been better with marinara. It was ok but not something I would recommend or order again. I would consider coming here again for a quick lunch, just not ordering the calamari again. read more

This place is a bit high priced but has excellent food. I will say that not everyone this trip loved their food, but I opted for the pesto pasta and it's excellent. That said, this was our first trip to their new location and I was not excited. You can hear absolutely nothing in there anymore. The old location was quiet and people were literally shouting at each other across all the tables to even talk to each other. It made for a pretty miserable dining experience. They really have to urgently address their sound problems or despite how good the food is here, I can't see wanting to head back there. Some more minor issues - we got stemless white wine glasses for our big red wines, which was a major bummer. Also their tap water was maybe the worst tasting tap water I had in my week in the OBX. Tasted like... seafood?? Disgusting. We had one member not drinking that ended up ordering a drink because they could not drink the water. We also had a seating snafu that was more awkward than anything. All around, this made for a disappointing night for us. Despite all this, I will say that our service was great. read more
