In my Yelp search for a tasty restaurant in nags head I ran across the blue moon. We decided to head over for dinner. The wait wasn't too bad but still busy in April. I would suggest making a reservation if possible in peak months. I ordered the prosciutto wrapped polenta as an appetizer which was insanely good and the chicken decluck sandwich. Yes. It IS worth the wait. We were quoted an hour and 45 minute wait and only ended up waiting 45 minutes for a two top! Its convenient because they text you when your table is ready so you don't have to be close to the hostess stand. Our waitress, Lory, was so nice and helpful with our questions. My partner and I both ordered specials for the night. They made a mean yellowfin tuna and omg the crab there was to die for. As far as their apps go, we got the wings. Blue Moon was great. Told us we'd be seated in 15 minutes and we had a table in 9. Servers and staff were all very friendly. Drinks were reasonable, as was the food. The ribs special was very good and my girlfriend enjoyed her fish tacos. Waitress was very helpful with suggestions. Every table was spaced out well. Came here for my birthday and had big expectations because it was so busy, clean and looked new. Our server was really nice, but it took a while to get drinks. I ordered the special, fried flounder. It still had the skin on it and was bland. The fries were 100% the bottom of the batch. Not one fry was full size. My mom got the chicken sandwich and didn't love it. We have eaten at the original location several times, but tonight was our first time at the new Bluemoon Beach Grill, and it was fantastic! A beautiful building and I would wager that the food is even better than before. Spinach salad with a crabcake, mahi-mahi fish tacos, crab stuffed shrimp, oysters Rockefeller, and a great looking grilled cheese for the kid. we don't necessarily want to encourage more people to come here, but we can't deny that it is probably the best food on the Outer Banks. read more

This place is simply awesome!!! Every single time we go to Nags Head (usually twice a year) this is our first stop. Literally before we check in at the house we hit here first. I've eaten a bunch of fish and chips (I'm English) and the fish and chips from blue moon are right up there with the best. I'm actually mad I'm not there eating them today. read more

I've been going to Blue Moon since 2013 when I took my girlfriend for the first time. She's been upgraded to wife and now the kiddos tag along. The food is always excellent, but this last visit we weren't a fan of the kid's spaghetti. Usually my daughter loves marinara sauce but she made a face eating it. My wife and I tried and also agreed there was something off with it. Truck stop and Seaside Bucatini were excellent. Skillet potatoes in the truck stop were more like house made potato chips versus thicker skillet potatoes I had envisioned, but still good. I try to order something new every time I come and I'm never disappointed. The new location is much bigger, but the parking situation is awful. The back yard is nice to hang out while waiting on a table, but my daughter complained that it's not really kid friendly. Our family of 5 was told 1hr wait, but we were seated in about half the time. read more

Our server, Paxton was courteous and knowledgable! We began with the grilled octopus appetizer, something no one at our table had ever tried it was hot and flavorful. It had a naturally chewy texture similar to calamari. The Chef was unhappy with the amount of octopus on the plate and prepared another dish at no charge. Things continued to improve from there. The two unpersonable hostesses should be taking a pay cut. After being seated, my brother started getting dropped on by a vent from the ceiling. The staff seemed surprised although the floor board was warped indicating water damage at some point. We ordered Buffalo shrimp as an appetizer and it came out uncooked. So we cancelled that. The crab cakes my daughter and I ordered were fair at best. My wife liked her fish but the length of time it took to come out was poor. My last meal before leaving the Outer Banks was at this Lil gem. Very unassuming place, almost diner-like, but very good. Having been in OBX for about a week, I came to understand that most places do not take reservations & waits are long. I arrived half an hour prior to opening & got on the already decent sized line. Once seated, the server Monika, was fast, efficient & attentive when needed. I had seared sea scallops - I've been jonesing for them for awhile now, the oyster Po' Boy & the "house" margarita. We ordered Blue moon grill for takeout our first night in Nags head after hearing good things. Very friendly staff and they were able to take the to go order even though they were clearly super busy. We all got the Mahi fish tacos since that's what fellow yelpers recommended and were not disappointed! Their slaw was tasty and the fish was clearly fresh. They came with a nice side of beans and rice. Overall, we had a good experience and would definitely return to try other dishes. Wow! Love their new location! We made reservations and were seated right away. Others were told the wait would be 1-1/2 to 2 hours. Our server, Monika, was friendly and attentive. Apps came out in record time and entrees were not far behind! Our group of 5 enjoyed calamari, crab dip, crispy brussel sprouts, soft shell crabs, ribeye, and the bouillabaisse. All selections were delicious but the crispy brussel sprouts were to die for! They were on the daily specials menu but they are a menu item that should definitely stick around! One minor complaint, the restaurant was very loud. The energetic volume gives off a positive vibe! We just found it hard to hold a conversation with each other. It won't keep us away though! Their service is as good as their food. We arrived at 8:15 on a Sunday night with a party of four and no reservation. We talked to the hostess and she gave us a 30-35 minute wait time so we turned to leave and the Manager ran out to grab us and ask us to hold on. They got a table ready in 10 minutes! Our waiter recommended an order of the Buffalo Tuna Bites to start. Since there was only one order left, we gave him the green light as we started looking over the other specials and regular menu. If they have those on the menu, get them. They are so unique and super delicious. They come with this bleu cheese dipping sauce that is out of this world. We kidded with each other that we might drink it. For main courses, two of us got their crab cake dinner for $28 (MKT PRICE) and two got specials from their feature menu that were really excellently prepared fish dishes - a bronzed salmon salad and a snapper. The crab cakes were filled with huge chunks of crab and so big we had to take one home. They came with perfectly crunchy fries that were reminiscent of Thrasher's Fries fame from Ocean City, MD. Their beer and drink list was terrific - not much in the way of wine choices though but still good staples to choose from. We loved this place! read more

Went back this year excited for the new location and unfortunately, the new spacious location is the only positive change. Ordered our typical favorites, the fish and chips along with the shrimp and grits, and we were very disappointed. The fish is much smaller and the grits had an almost boxed taste. We also got the shrimp salad, Caribbean pork sandwich, and kids tenders. The best seasoned dish was the kids tenders. The pork sandwich was our begrudging runner up. As a table we split the oysters Rockefeller which had a great depth of flavor with a creamy sauce that had bacon (of course it made everything even better.) My fiancé got a cheesesteak, and their homemade whiz is FANTASTIC. We ended up ordering a side of that so those with fries could dip- fantastic addition. I got the tree hugger add shrimp, it was so flavorful and fresh. A lovely and light dish! Our server was super attentive and always on top of everything we needed, it was very clean and well run. Dining at the bar is our favorite. All of the staff is attentive and food is always outstanding. In all the years they have been open, we have never had a complaint or walked away disappointed. Food: The menu is so eclectic that I challenge you to find something you won't find appetizing. Prices are reasonable. There are some notable items on this menu that are worth trying.
