This is probably my favorite OBX restaurant - perhaps tied with one at the other end of the beach. Food is great and so is the service. You'll have to wait but the hostesses are kind and professional and usually spot on with the timing. Full bar with lots of options - local drafts too. Delicious seafood - fish tacos are perfectly prepared and come with black beans and rice, which is a refreshing option instead of fries/chips. Our waitress on NYE was great - very attentive without going overboard. We thoroughly enjoyed the spinach dip and duck specials. Cooked just right! Lots of wines by the glass to choose from - preferred the Sauvignon Blanc to the slightly off Pinot Grigio. Don't be turned off if there's a wait, they'll text you when your table is ready and bar spots open up frequently - you can enjoy the full menu there also. Excellent experience once again! read more

On my first trip to the OBX (I guess I'm clearly an out-of-towner just by using the abbreviation), I looked for a spot with some good seafood. The location isn't as desirable as some other places, being located in a strip mall. But at 11:30, there was already a line out the door. We managed to grab two seats at the bar and even though service was a little slow, I can understand that because practically everyone was sat at the same time. The bartender helped me decide on a different beer, so she was certainly helpful. The calamari was a little bit of a mixed bag for me. It was fried very well, crispy, not too much breading, and there were several tentacles included. It was served on top of a white wine and butter sauce with some diced cherry peppers mixed in. The sauce was ok, but I would have preferred it be served on the side. All I really needed was a couple of lemon wedges and it would have tasted more than fine. For lunch, we split a couple of sandwiches. The Mahi BLT was fantastic. Good soft roll, moist fish, crispy bacon, good quality lettuce and a ripe tomato slice, a little bit of spice in the jalapeno remoulade. By the way, I recommend getting a little extra remoulade on the side for dipping your hand cut fries. You can thank me later. The shrimp "burger" was pretty good in my opinion. Plenty of shrimp, about medium sized and cooked very well. The fried green tomato, sharp provolone, and basil aioli were a creative set of toppings. I was somewhere between please and confused with the overall flavor. The Outer Banks is a fiercely competitive market with so many restaurant options. But BMBG is a more than worthwhile place to visit. read more

This place is certainly worth the visit. After arriving we were told the wait was 45 minutes. The cool part is they take your phone number and txt you when your table is ready. There is plenty of seating outside, but them texting you gives you the freedom to wait in your car or explore some of the shops. We were texted 5 minutes earlier than promised and were taken back. It is a cute restaurant with a bar and table flexibility to accommodate larger groups. We were greeted promptly and ordered. We started with the calamari which was really lightly breaded. My husband got the fried oysters over fries and I got the Philly Cheesesteak. I grew up in Pennsylvania and have eaten cheesesteaks in Philly and this one was awesome! Visiting OBX this weekend - found the Blue Moon Beach Grill (it's off-season, so we were lucky to find anything!!) near our hotel. Atmosphere was good, and our waitress was kind. My wife has some serious food allergies - and the waitress (her name was Katy) took her time ensuring that the food would be perfect. It worked, no issues. Holy cow! What a great place! The exec chef was there to prepare our meal, it was outstanding. This is definitely NOT a typical beach food/crappy fried everything/low quality type of place. This is a place where you are totally okay paying their prices because it actually matches the quality. We ordered the pear arugula salad with chicken, it was so good and the chicken was perfect, I can't make it as good! Husband had the tuna special and he said it was also amazing, the tuna was prepared perfectly We did not get an appetizer but we did have dessert. The pecan pie was the best I'd ever had and the tort was amazing. Wait staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and very friendly. We'll be going back again and again before we leave OBX. Arrived a 5 PM and waited 30 minutes for table for 5. Spent that half hour at outside bar. Also crowded but plenty of area to stand away from the bar. Once seated we were quickly served and attended to throughout the evening. Order calamari which was excellent and seared scallops which were okay. Entrees included fish tacos (excellent), seaside bucatini (excellent), grilled shrimp salad (okay), salmon (excellent) and mahi BLT (excellent). New restaurant is large and much better than old location. Nice ambiance, high ceilings and offers both indoor and outdoor eating. Both are excellent. There was no drink menu and the waitress couldn't be bothered to tell us about the specials or the beer list. So we just made due with water. She did tell me about the few items that could be made gluten free which was a plus. They have no dedicated fryer. No desert menu so we didn't get to try anything else. Solid casual dining, but I thought the food was fine, not amazing. The place definitely has the dressy/casual lively OBX atmosphere down. For me though the food was really heavy. My cesar salad was drowning in dressing, and was hard to get through. There is nothing wrong with the place-the staff is friendly and it is well run. For what you are getting, though, it is on the pricey side and I certainly didn't love the food. Your mileage may vary depending on your love for mayo/remoulade/aioli. read more

The food in OBX isnt outstanding so I was hoping for a pleasant surprise. Didn't get it. I ordered the gumbo and shrimp and grits. I sent the gumbo back because it wasn't hot and didn't taste like gumbo. It tasted more like Brunswick stew, which was not what I wanted. The shrimp and grits was really tasty however. Other offerings at my table were fried calamari and a rockfish dish. Neither were as described the menu. The calamari said it had a lemon sauce. It tasted like Velveeta. The rockfish was a little over cooked and not enhanced with spices, including salt. Nothing was terrible, just not great. Service was the same. The server couldn't really describe things on the menu except to say that they "look good." read more

We have been going to Blue Moon for years and have never had a bad meal. Our only complaint was the wait for tables because they didn't take reservations- so we typically avoided the place during the peak season. Now, they have solved for that with an AMAZING new, larger space and they now take reservations! Food is still as awesome as ever. On our most recent trip, we shared the scallop app and I had the tree hugger pasta which had some of the most fresh, delicious corn and sidekick had the crab cakes, which are some of the best on the beach. We ordered the steak sandwich, soup, Rockefeller Oysters, jalapeño Mac-n-cheese, and the shrimp and grits. No complaints. We got the key lime pie to go and it was delicious too.
