I sat at the bar, greeted by friendly staff. I ordered the Seared Scallops, because I saw a picture of them on Yelp first. They were amazing. The sweet seaweed salad balances out the dashes of hot chili sauce on the side and sweet Thai sauce on the scallops. There's also some kind of aioli that's spicy as well for dipping. The scallops are so fresh, perfectly seared, with lite crunch on the side and delicate softness throughout the scallop. This dish has been perfected and I highly recommend getting it. The presentation is also well done! Looks photo worthy! Even for the gram! I also ordered the Sunday funday cocktail -- a very refreshing taste of lemon and blackberry vodka! Cheers! read more

THE ABSOLUTE BEST! Have eaten at all the local spots over the years and this is always the best. Their sister restaurant Bluewater in Pirates Cove is incredible as well. That said, the original is hard to beat! We are absolutely blown away every time. There is usually a wait but the bar staff makes it go by quickly. Am we then arrive at the food.....AMAZING. By far the best at the beach. Local seafood dishes are my personal favorite, but you really can't go wrong. Even my typically picky kids devour anything and everything here. We also learned that they are soon moving out of the shopping center into a bigger & better space. Very excited to come back and see it. Cheers to Blue Moon and they're great staff!! read more

The service is as good as the food! I swear! A tad tricky to find, hidden off the road, but worth it. I had the Shrimp Burger. They cooked the shrimp perfectly. The light dusting on the shrimp was an added plus. The pulled pork nachos were also good and enough to see a small army! An amazing array of craft beers washed it all down. And a shout out to Cory H, the best server we've had on this vacation. When we return, Bule Moon be on our list for a repeat visit! read more

The wait was minutes... the food was great. I generally don't rave over a dinner, but this is a very well ran establishment. The timing of the starters and the entree's was impeccable and the food was flat out delicious! This place is the real deal. I had the crab cake sandwich, blackened which was perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned and not over the top. They didn't try to hard or over do anything. Excellent quality ingredients prepared artfully. My wife's fish tacos were excellent. Most fish tacos have a tendency to be bland or dry. These were neither. Their beer menu is great with some really high quality craft Michigan beers and the mixed drinks are refreshing twists on classic with high quality liquors. Service was outstanding. Fast and friendly. We were seated immediately in the busiest time of the day and non of the staff were flustered. A well oiled machine with top notch eats at a very reasonable price. read more

This place is in a strip mall like a lot of food posts in this area of NC, so don't let that deter you. The food here is great, the portions are pretty good in size, and everyone in our group of 7 left very happy! It is a laid back atmosphere but serves all locally caught seafood. The menu has a ton of options and even options that are not seafood too in case that is needed for your group. Their special the night we went was topped with crab that was pretty tasty. I got their grouper plate and the fish was super fresh. The calimari app I thought should have been a little bigger, but their special tuna jerk bites I could have eaten a whole second plate of since they were seared so perfectly. Other people loved their fried oysters either as a plate or topped on a salad, and our group even ended up with some leftovers to bring back home too. So a great local spot, friendly servers, a full bar, and a large menu, this place was a win. read more

Stopped for dinner here during a vacation trip. They do a good job dealing with Covid, with every employee I saw wearing a mask, and the tables inside spaced better than any I have seen in other restaurants. During our visit, my wife had the crab cake sandwich, with sauteed vegetables, and I had the mahi-mahi BLT sandwich with fries. Hers was okay, rating a 3. Mine was excellent....and easy 5. The fries were also very good, as I believe they were the true hand-cut variety. So we'll call it an average of 4 stars. If we return, we'll both definitely get the mahi-mahi BLT. 6th year visiting OBX and our at least 8th or 10th trip to Blue Moon. Arrived at 5 and were seated right away- by 5:30 there was a wait so arrive early. Know you can order drinks and sit outside while you wait. The last two seasons we have gone to Blue Moon they have been running short staffed and we could tell they are doing all they can to provide the best service for their customers. This year and last year wasn't our best experience but the atmosphere and food will keep us loyal customers. Just a few blips along the way- had to ask for silverware, our water order, and our daughters food was forgotten (we didn't receive until we were about to pay for our check and we still had to pay for her meal that was taken in a to go box). We get the calamari app every year but the last two years the portion has gotten much smaller (I totally understand inflation!) and it's been luke warm each time. Crab cake sandwiches were still on point and the cheese steak might be a new favorite if you need a break from seafood. We will return and hopefully the small kinks will be worked out! read more

Oh my gosh, I'm almost too full to write this! Blue Moon was our first dinner in Nags Head. This place is 100% worth the roughly 30 minutes we waited for a table. It's decorated nicely with a beach theme. Front has a section with very cute souvenirs and local art for sale. We had a fried stuffed artichoke appetizer. Very tasty and I've eaten artichokes lots of ways but this was different/new for me. I'd definitely get this again. I had the spinach arugula salad which was delicious all by itself with walnuts, goat cheese crumbles, and poached pears in champagne yum! but I added scallops which only added more amazing to my plate. They could have been seared a little more for my taste but were cooked well and tasted good. My daughter wanted fish tacos and was not disappointed. She didn't talk all through dinner and ate all of it. My son had a cheeseburger at a seafood restaurant...‍ but even that was perfect! My husband and youngest son shared the Sandbar special WOW it was a huge portion of fried but on greasy fishes. Flaky flounder, fried oysters, grilled shrimp, on a bed of fries, with a side of sweet/tangy coleslaw. We also had a couple Lost Colony Blondes to wash it down. The only negative was my son ordered lemonade and it was one of the worst things I've ever tasted. Jennifer was our waitress & she did a great job. We found this place by accident while driving around. We saw quite a long line outside, but decided that was a good sign. In spite of the line, we were seated rather quickly at the bar. I never like sitting at the bar because I don't drink alcohol. This means I am usually ignored or overlooked by the bartender who now has to serve food as well. That was NOT the case here. The bartender was going about 1,000 mph, but she was taking care of everyone. We got appetizers and a main course, and I will say, they had very appropriate portion sizes. I left full, but not feeling like I had over eaten. The food quality was very high. It was fresh, perfectly cooked, and well seasoned. The only real "negatives" that I could say is that my wife wished the crab dip had more chunks of crab meat rather than shredded. Also, I was disappointed at how long the food took to arrive, but then I realized... the line out front was because Blue Moon had just opened. Due to COVID, they were seating parties one at a time. I realized our wait was caused by the kitchen getting so many orders so quickly, it just took time to catch up. Additionally, I would say the food is worth the wait. Two more points: this place has a really good, laid back atmosphere. It's just... comfortable. There is artwork for sale from local artists. Be sure to check those pieces out. Lastly, I have never seen this before, but they are a "dementia friendly" restaurant. I'm not exactly sure what that means, but it definitely stood out. All in all, Blue Moon was a chance we took and couldn't have been happier. We will definitely return next time we come to the Outer Banks. read more

On a recent day trip to Nags Head, I truly didn't have much in the way of expectations for food. Beachy places mean for beachy seafood specialities, and the Outer Banks have no shortage of these. What's a veg head to do? Check out Blue Moon Beach Grill. There's a couple options on the menu, which was a pleasant surprise. While the Tree Hugger pasta (why do they always make us order things with embarrassing names?) isn't anything that you haven't had before, it's quite tasty and filling and I was extremely appreciative of it. They have a decent wine list, also a pleasant surprise, and hooray for a bubbly option. The Tree Hugger is the only vegan option on the menu (perhaps the garden salad is vegan too), and there's a braised portobello mushroom with risotto if you're a vegetarian. What puts Blue Moon Beach Grill in 4, rather than 3, star land is the hospitality. Everyone was so nice and helpful. Our server patiently guided us through the menu (we were with family and there were some restrictions besides mine, because my boyfriend's mother cannot have any spice in her food. The waitress said the kitchen staff would be happy to keep her shrimp plain grilled, rather than blackened). As for the seafood, everyone at my table was very happy with their entrees (grilled shrimp, fish tacos and a fried platter). I'd gladly return to Blue Moon next time I'm in Nags Head! read more

This was a repeat visit for me to Blue Moon Beach Grill and it NEVER disappoints; not even during a pandemic. We were seated promptly around 5pm in a corner table (score) tucked away securely and safely distanced. Our waiter was prompt, attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. WOW. This place...the food. Spectacular! First time coming here from Northern Virginia. We came here for dinner as family for our vacation. The staff were very nice and welcoming. We ordered drinks at the bar and apps while we waited. The wait was not too bad. The time flew by so we got our seats quick enough. We ordered, fish and chips, seafood bucatini (2 orders of this), shrimp and grits, oysters, and the tree hugger pasta. Everything was delicious and flavorful! No wonder this place has a lot of reviews and a great rating! Hopefully one day I will come down here in the future whenever I am with someone special :) read more

This is probably my favorite OBX restaurant - perhaps tied with one at the other end of the beach. Food is great and so is the service. You'll have to wait but the hostesses are kind and professional and usually spot on with the timing. Full bar with lots of options - local drafts too. Delicious seafood - fish tacos are perfectly prepared and come with black beans and rice, which is a refreshing option instead of fries/chips. Our waitress on NYE was great - very attentive without going overboard. We thoroughly enjoyed the spinach dip and duck specials. Cooked just right! Lots of wines by the glass to choose from - preferred the Sauvignon Blanc to the slightly off Pinot Grigio. Don't be turned off if there's a wait, they'll text you when your table is ready and bar spots open up frequently - you can enjoy the full menu there also. Excellent experience once again! read more
