We went to Blue Moon based other yelp reviews. It is the off season here and were surprised that there was little wait. We took that as a good sign and ordered a glass of wine and waited for our table. The wine was a very generous pour, definitely not one of those places that asks you if you want a 4 oz or 8 oz pour. The restaurant is filled with local art and was nice to admire while we waited. We decided to try a variety of things. For an appetizer, the Calamari was good. It sat upon a lemon sauce that was a light and tangy. The calamari was lightly battered and golden. Overall very tasty. My son had the mahi mahi BLT and it was really good, served with a very generous portion of hand cut fries. A nice change from a typical burger. My husband had a crab cake sandwich. For a Marylander, this is hard to try outside of our own state, but it was good. Lump crab meat with little filler. It gets a thumbs up! I had the green tomato and shrimp Napoleon with goat cheese...yum yum! Different and not something I have ever seen on a menu before. I also had the spinach and arugula salad. I love a good salad and this one was unique with the pears, applewood bacon and pecans. The dressing was light and really let the flavors shine. Our sweet waitress talked us into dessert. All desserts were homemade for $6 each. A real selling feature. We enjoyed the Hershey's cake. The chocolate cake had white icing and drizzled with Hershey's syrup. Needless to say we left the plate empty. It was a fabulous dinner. The menu was filled with lots of great choices, including many pasta dishes. Wait was much shorter (20 minutes) than quoted (1 hour) on a Saturday night. Our waitress was wonderful (Alexis) and food was really good!

We went over the July 4th weekend so the wait time quoted to us was about an hour and forty five minutes, though bar seating is first come first serve and we were able to get seats within 20 or so minutes. The had a great selection of beers on tap, we ordered the Deschutes Fresh Squeeze IPA which was great. They had a broad menu with incredible options. We ordered the crab bisque soup to start, the Fish and Chips and then a dish I can't remember the name of that has pesto, shrimp and scallops in linguine pasta. All three dishes were amazing!! This place was jam packed when we stopped in on a recent trip to the OBX. The fact that it was a weeknight during off peak season definitely spoke volumes. When we arrived there was a wait but we grabbed a spot to wait with our kids and they texted us when the table was ready. Food: My hubby ordered the Bouillabaise and I had the fish tacos. We were both very happy with the freshness, quality and the quantity of the seafood. No skimping here! Great flavor and portions were right for the money. This was one of my favorite meals in Kill Devil Hills. Our server was great, super attentive. They had a hushpuppy special the day we visited and they were to die for. So good! The food was fresh, not over priced, and the atmosphere was laid back. It is located in a little strip mall so it isn't visible from the road. Horrible experience. Went in and they said 2 hour wait for a table for 2 or their would be a seat open at the bar soon. Waited for 1.5 hours at the bar scoping out our seats, group of three said take our seats when we get up. You completely dropped the ball while moving into your new location!!! The new building is great, but the food was ugly!!! We had the Soft shell crab BLT, which had very little flavor, and the crab was so tiny it could be eaten in two bites!!! The fish and chips had zero flavor and the fries that came with both meals were awful!!! Come on, you even ruined the fries!!! VERY disappointed in what used to be one of our favorite places!! Had a very tantalizing portobello burger at this fine establishment on my drive back from the the Roanoke Lost Colony. The sandwich, and the service, were excellent. They took my order right away got my meal to me in less than 10 minutes. They also have a bar situated in the middle so if you want to grab a beer with some friends after work or on the weekend it looks like a happening spot to do so! The parking situation is great, too. However, if you're driving north on I 158 it can be a bit deceiving because the parking lot that looks to be Blue Moon's is actually another business's so you'll have get back on the road and drive another block. read more

Absolutely phenomenal flavors, friendly staff and exceptional craft beer selection. We liked it so much, we decided to return for lunch the following day after experiencing such an excellent dinner. The seafood is exceptionally fresh and prepared by a skilled kitchen staff that is completely open and viewable. Our food arrived promptly, was piping hot and proportioned very generously. Do not miss this place if you're in the area. It's easy to drive right by as it doesn't face the road but just pull in when you see a Harley-Davidson sign and you're there. read more

As other reviews have said, from the outside, there is nothing to pull you in but one inside it is quite nice. Seafood being the order of the day, we had the fish tacos ($13) and crab cake sandwich ($15). Yes, a little pricey for lunch but overall, very good. The crab cake had large chunks of local blue crab and a tasty sauce with lettuce and a tomato slice. Served with house cut fries, it was a filling lunch. The fish tacos featured local Mahi Mahi and were very large. They also had a delicious sauce with fresh veggies. The side with this entree was black beans and rice. Contrary to what another review said, they did not taste like "Christmas ". They were very flavorful and not bland as so many others serve them. If you want fresh local fish served with excellent sides, Blue Moon is highly recommended. read more

Review Update: one year later, we came back as our top priority to get that key lime pie again this year. We were going to use it as a benchmark for the rest of the week's restaurants. So sorely disappointed were we in the entire meal, that this 5-star review falls to 2. First, we arrived early (like, 4:30 early) but still had a 30-minute wait. This isnt necessarily a bad sign, so we were happy to beat the real rush. Disappointment started with the buffalo shrimp appetizer; same as we ordered last year but this time, instead of being memorably fresh, it was just "ok." The crab cake dinner was equally as lackluster. This time, instead of a delicate fry, the cakes (which ARE still good on meat to filler ratio by the way) were dropped into the murky depths of a deep fryer for far too long. If only the hand cut fries could've achieved the same crispness, there might've been a saving grace for this meal that might be found on any bar menu up the coast. We tried something new this year with the Angels Delight, a pasta dish marketed as having a white wine butter sauce enveloping tomatoes, red pepper, shrimp, and lump crab meat. The portion of meat was ample, but the dish overall was surprisingly bland. The red peppers came from a jar, and the entire dish floated in its sauce, which was neither buttery not flavorful. Our biggest disappointment came after dinner was cleared away. We had held out hope. We ordered two so we wouldn't have to share. Our mistake. Maybe we had our hopes too high, but this key lime pie wasn't the tangy, creamy dream we remembered from last year. Once again, middle of the road and surely to be beat by another- but for that, we'll see. For all the hype and excellent reviews, were not sure why our experience was so mediocre. Maybe the chef was having an off night? Had we known, the 30-minute wait would not have been worth it (nor would the check! $21 for Angels Delight and a $28 market price on crab cakes and fries). We may try back next year, but we're not holding high hopes for this unassuming beach grill. read more

We've been here a couple of times pre-Covid. Now, there is an outdoor deck area which was perfect in October. When you walk in, there's a sign asking for patience because they're short staffed. Well, Alexis was an awesome waitress- prob one of the best we've ever had anywhere. The food was awesome and the atmosphere was great! Portion Size. Portion Size. Portion Size. Very disappointed in our first and definitely last time visiting Blue Moon Beach Grill. We chose Blue Moon because they were highly rated and I wanted to get some good fried green tomatoes for my birthday. However, Blue Moon showed to be a waste of money for the portion size you receive. First, we ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes Napoleon. When the $15 dish showed up, we had TWO slices of fried green tomatoes about a half dollar in size, topped with 5 shrimp. The creme sauce overlook the dish as there was more sauce than food. When we spoke to the manager about this, her excuse was "were training new cooks and the amount of fried tomatoes depends on the size of them, tomato tomäto." Next, we received our meals. I ordered the Caribbean Pulled pork which was the only meal that was even close to a decent portion size. My spouse ordered the MahiMahi BLT with a side of fried. The fish was over cooked and had a consistency of tuna rather than that of Mahi Mahi. It was more of a Mahi Mahi burger rather than a BLT. The fries were overcooked and very tiny for homemade fries. They averaged to be about an inch to an inch and a half long. We had our 6 year old with us, and he ordered the kids fried fish with fries. Our 6 year almost never finishes his food, and he did this time because he got one piece of fried fish about 5 inches long and 1 inch wide. He was still hungry after eating and we had to stop and get him food elsewhere after. Definitely don't recommend going if you're hungry and expect a decent portion size for the amount of money you're going to spend. Poor customer service and clearly the gentlemen working the quality control thinks he has a lax job. Positives: Our waitress was nice & our 6 month old loved the pickle he got. read more

This place from the outside didnt look like much but once we got inside it was quite refreshing. Once we were seated our waitress Lauren welcomed us. She was great as she had some recommendations and was very attentive to make sure everything was good. Thanks Lauren!!! Okay, so for the food. We got a few apps which were both fantastic. The halibut bites were off the chainnnnn!!! They were like pillows of fluffy goodness sent down from the heavens. I will have dreams about these tonight! My wife thoroughly enjoyed the shrimp sandwich and I got a bite in. I'll tell you the flavors were spot on! My mahi mahi BLT was slammin with plenty of flavor for everyone! I got the Thursday lunch special blackened yellowfin tuna tostada and it was PHENOMENAL!! My father got the shrimp and grits which was also very good! This place was pretty good. From the parking lot it doesn't look like much, but once inside it gets better. Tables are a little close together, but I understand space is limited. The service was very good. She checked on us and didn't smother. Provided good recommendations and both of our meals were very good. My Hubby had a burger with pulled pork on it and the flavors were wonderful! I had the seafood pasta. I loved the noodles and all of the seafood was cooked perfectly. Notwithstanding the fact that cases of Coronavirus are increasing steadily in North Carolina and the hostess was not wearing a mask, I could not think of a redeeming quality to salvage this one star review. We were met with utter disdain and disinterest by the waiter. We walked over from our house, inquired about ordering take out and were rudely barked at and told 'takeout has ended'. When I went to ask a follow up question as to whether we could get a table outside, the young man had already left and all I could see was his back. Maybe it was just my mistake in ordering the Cluk chicken sandwich this time instead of the burger from last time. We are on vacation and mostly cook for ourselves. We were out for an adventure and needed lunch and came across Blue Moon. It did take an hour to get seated but we figured an hour wait on a weekday, how bad could it be. Well, sat and almost immediately had our cocktails and shortly after our starters. The crab and artichoke bisque was unbelievable. The entrees were even better. One of us wanted the bouillabaisse, which was not on the lunch menu. The kitchen made it for us anyway! The fish tacos were stuffed, the shrimp not a burger, and the oyster po boy were all amazing. The service was great and the food was out of this world. 10 out of 10. read more

We sought out this place in an unimpressive strip mall because the fish tacos were recommended by a friend. They were decent but nothing special. I ordered a margarita which tasted as if it was from a prepared mix rather than fresh and was super sour. Unfortunately we chose to sit outside which abutted the strip mall parking lot and the restaurant trash area. There were so many aggressive flies it put a damper on our lunch experience. This has become my favorite place to grab lunch when we are down in Nag's Head. They have so many options that cater to everyone but the seafood is the best. I had the shrimp "no burger" and the calamari to share. Both we phenomenal. The shrimp sandwich (basically) included a fried green tomato and a balsamic sauce on the shrimp that I could drink. Fries are delicious, and they give you plenty. I also love all the artwork hanging and for sale near the entrance and restrooms. Overall, I would definitely recommend giving this place a try, but be warned they get packed pretty regularly - for good reason. read more
