They didn't need to turn tables as they were almost empty due to it being off season.. just too much. Ordered the Bouillabaisse, usually excellent and was very disappointed. Came in an large bowl of what tasted like Campbell's vegetable soup with pieces of over done fish and seafood floating around instead of the usual savory broth with nicely cooked fish and seafood. This restaurant is amazing! My husband and I took our first trip to the Outer Banks in August and we came across this place which was open late. Covid has places closing early and open 5 instead of 7 days. The hostesses are nice and friendly. The front bar bartender makes great drinks. The food is outstanding, the main bar has Crystal and Keith who are super nice. They go above and beyond. Order anything and it will be delicious, the deserts are sinfully good too. Our family got the cheese curds for an appetizer and entrees such as the fish and chips, yellow fin tuna toastada, and the cheese steak. The fish and chips were very good, and the jalapeño sauce that came with it made the dish. The yellow fin tuna toastada (a thursday lunch special) was cooked well. The cheese steak portion was huge and was very good as well. The minimal criticism is that the food was a little bit undersalted, but that is nothing the table salt couldn't fix. We waited over 2 hours. Once seated, our waiter Chase B was attentive, friendly, and helpful. We ordered fried green tomato with shrimp Napoleon, a cup of homemade chicken tortilla soup. Both were freshly prepared and delicious. My husband had the Caesar salad with blackened Mahi and I had the Seaside Buccatini, whoa! I'm not even a pasta person. While the Mahi was fresh and blackened nicely, the Caesar crisp and refreshing, the buccatini pasta in roasted tomato pesto with shrimp, scallops, spinach, artichoke hearts, and shaved Parmegiano-Reggiano cheese rendered me effectively speechless as I couldn't do anything but eat it until I polished off the plate. I go to a lot of places that like to write award winning next to a lot of dishes that never could have won any kind of award. This dish doesn't say award winning but it certainly would win awards. A must try. One word of advice...skip the tap water. Had to literally spit it back out and my husband did the same which tells me a lot. The restaurant needs a water filter stat. I won't describe what it smelled or tasted like. Thankfully, dessert sweetened us back up. A lemon ricotta cake. Not too sweet. Moist. Just right tart. This is the most Yelped about restaurant in the entire Outer banks region in North Carolina, so naturally, I had to try it myself. We started off with 2 appetizers: Fried Green Tomato & Shrimp Napoleon and their Soup of the Day, which happened to be Clam Chowder. The Fried Green Tomato & Shrimp Napoleon was exceptional. It's the kind of dish that's served in Michelin-star restaurants. From the presentation to the last bite, it was a joyous experience. The clam chowder was very good, too. My family ordered the Fish Tacos, they said they were just okay and nothing special; however, I thought they were delicious. I ordered the Seaside Bucatini. I didn't think my dish was anything special, but my family thought it was delicious. So, what you will like and won't depends a lot on personal preference. I have extremely high standards for pasta, while my family has eaten at some of the best taco places in the country (Los Tacos No. 1 in New York City), so they have extremely high standards for tacos. As for dessert, I haven't had Key Lime Pie in at least 10 years, and it was absolutely exceptional. If you go to this restaurant: order the Fried Green Tomato & Shrimp Napoleon for sure (and perhaps some Key Lime Pie for dessert?). The Clam Chowder, Fish Tacos and Seaside Bucatini were good, but not the best things I've ever tried, which is where a point gets deducted. This meal cost $100, at those prices ($30 for the Seaside Bucatini alone), everything should be out-of-this world. The one thing I will say, though, the customer service was sooooooooo exceptional. Our waiter (I forgot his name, but he was a tall blonde male) was so extremely kind to us and just knew a lot about the menu. I liked his aura very much. Additionally, this establishment is always responding to their customers on Yelp, which goes to show how much they care about great customer experiences. So kuddos to them one that one! This is one of our favorite places to eat at the Outer Banks! Today we tried the fried calamari as an appetizer, and it was AMAZING! Crispy, yet tender, in a scrumptious sauce. Stopped by here yesterday and was told they had a 45 minute wait. Meanwhile there were open tables. They refused to seat us because they said another party was waiting for the open patio table I requested. Very frustrating and hostess acted annoyed and unfriendly. .... And if you're lucky, the owner will reply and insult you for not happily waiting for 45 minutes with your hungry 8 and 11 year old children to get a table in her establishment. Thanks, Cara. And maybe you should tell your host stand to communicate your "text system" to people right along with the news that you have to wait 45 minutes to get seated at a table? That wasn't offered to us. The crabcakes were the best I've ever had in my entire life!! They were a little pricey $28 on the market price. But in my opinion they were so worth it. The mixed vegetables that were served with that were really good also. The fried oysters had a great flavor and taste I would definitely get them again. The french fries were fresh-cut French fries. They had a wide selection of different craft beers and regular beer and a full bar. The oyster rockafeller was as good or better than anywhere!! Everything I ate was just perfect. Don't let the unremarkable strip mall that houses this gem keep you from going in an enjoying a great meal. The seared scallops on a bed of seaweed were excellent. I got the Ceasar Salad with a skewer of blackened shrimp, which were perfectly cooked. Great service, good food, surprisingly well priced. We tried this place for lunch and had a mixed dining experience. First of all, they should change the name of it to "Sour Pusses". We walked in and the two sour pusses behind the cash register looked at us like we were bothering them. Our further observation was that the entire staff seemed miserable from the hostesses, to the waitstaff, to the cooking staff. SMILE! OK, now to the food. I ordered the fish and chips and my girlfriend ordered the Caesar salad with chicken. The Caesar salad was good with some unusual additions like cherry tomatoes and caramelized onions; the Caesar dressing was very good. My fish and chips were good but the fish needed to be trimmed better, there was too much dark meat (too close to the main bloodline) in the pieces of fish I was served. The fries were thin, hand-cut; my preference with fish and chips is a thicker chip. The cabbage in the Cole slaw needed to be cut smaller and I thought the dressing was very bland. I would give the food 4 stars and the atmosphere 2 stars for an overall 3 star rating. I did modify and upgrade my original review based on managements response. My hubby planned a mini vacation to Nagshead, NC for my birthday. The main reason was to eat as many meals as possible at this wonderful restaurant. In 2 days we managed 1lunch and 2 dinners. The food and service are always excellent. For lunch I had the Cajun grilled shrimp and green tomato with balsamic aioli and homemade fries. Hubby had the Philly steak and cheese with fries. To drink we both had a dark cloud dunkel beer. Delicious!!! We came back for dinner and had seafood bucatini and fried oysters and dunkel beer. Overall the top YUM! Had to skip lunch the next day but went for dinner. Both of us had the shrimp and grits. I had a glass of wine sangoviese, hubby stuck with the dunkel. Again, the food was superb. We love this place! They have a homemade habanero hot sauce that is great (I ate it on my shrimp and grits). I bought a bottle on the way out. read more

After reading all the reviews we decided this is a must try during our trip. we did take out as we were traveling with young kids. The food was mediocre at best. Maybe it's beater served on site but by the time it got to us it was lukewarm. I had the rockfish over grits and I'm a grit lover and this was just not great. It was sloppy food mashed together. My husband had a crab sandwich that was ok if not on the salty side. My son had the spaghetti and besides the portion being on the very small side the pasta was al dente and the sauce was straight form a jar. My daughter had the chicken tenders and got two pieces. That's right - two small strips for the whole meal. We would not go back and would not recommend to anyone else. read more

Cool atmosphere and friendly staff make for a great overall dining experience! Started out with some cocktails - yum. I had a Long Leaf IPA! Yummy! Then a cup of the Andouille black bean soup - Wow is all I can say. Nice big chunks of andouille and great flavor in the broth. Then My wife and friend split a crab cake sandwich broiled. It was really big! And very tasty! I got the crab cake dinner blackened and I must say it was excellent. The crab cake had minimal filler lots of big lumps in there. The slaw was great!!! Fresh cut fries yum! Remoulade was really tasty as well. My brother in law got the Tree Hugger with shrimp and he loved it! Kimberlee was very attentive. The atmosphere was great with big gush on the Wales & good music playing. Lots of T-shirt's and other cool stuff to choose from. My only not great comment was the fact that we did feel a bit rushed to leave as soon as we were done. People don't go to restaurants located at the end of strip malls for the view. However, we waited over an hour to be seated here on a Monday night in October, and it was worth it. The food - the fried green tomato and shrimp appetizer should be required eating. It's served on this amazing cajun cream sauce with goat cheese. It was simultaneously crispy and creamy with flavors that make my mouth water as I write this review a week later. After that amazing appetizer, we worried that our entrees wouldn't measure up. No need to have worried - we both got crab cakes which were amazing. There were literally chunks of lump crab meat in them and very little filler. The service - awesome. I'm horrible at names, but the host, a tall friendly gent, advised me on the all important question of where the closest liquor store was. While we waited for a table, we got drinks from the bubbly bartender, who handled juggling food and making drinks with finesse all by herself, all while keeping a smile on her face. I told her my vodka of choice and gave her free reign, and she did not disappoint. Our waitress was attentive without being invasive. While waiting, we looked at all the cool local artwork on the walls, which is available for purchase. There was also a surfboard available for purchase over the kitchen which was pretty cool. Both tasted fresh and delicious. But I have to make mention of the star of the show. It was the Key Lime Pie. It was the best we have ever had. I found this place via Yelp for lunch. As we pulled up my wife thought I was crazy since the grill is not exactly inviting. She immediately thought I had taken us to a run down dive bar lol. I only give five stars once in a blue moon. This restaurant is an amazing experience and exceeded our expectations. We arrived on a Tuesday afternoon in order to satisfy our crab cake cravings. Upon entering, you are greeted to an intimate dining environment with a wonderful host who took the time to introduce us to the menu and seated us in a cordial manner. After our greetings and warm welcome, we settled in what should be considered a very cozy environment. Despite the bar in the front, the smell of alcohol was not present. It was perfect for families. We ordered Fried Calimari and Buffalo Shrimp as the appetizer. The appetizers were succulent. The seafood was fresh and delicious. I loved the sauces from the buffalo shrimp and the lemon butter sauce from the Calimari. Emmy, our waitress treated us like royalty. She was very accommodating and ensured that dishes were specially prepared for us. What was more amazing is she would come back to our table to make changes to our dishes if we had an allergy or other special reasons for not placing selective ingredients in dishes. The waitress was really sweet and gracious. The main dishes were absolutely divine. The crab cakes were seasoned perfectly. I had fish tacos and they had a Baja vibe. The shrimp burger was yummy. They added a grilled tomato with Provolone, which had great texture and added flavor to the burger. Everything tasted fantastic even the fries and ice tea were some of the best I ever had. Just when I thought I couldn't eat anymore due to the massively delicious portions we get a taste of the desert menu which featured key lime pie, cream cheese cake, and a decadent hershey bar cake. The plating of these dishes made it visually pleasing to the eye and the palate. Overall, this was a very positive experience accompanies by an amazing waitress who bent over backward with every accommodation we requested. This rarely happens in the industry.
