One of our top restaurants that we still remember from our trip this year. The weather was dismal and rainy all day, but the restaurant was absolutely charming and lifted our spirits. I loved the decor in the dining area, as it is in a large enclosed patio that is rustic and nautical. The staff are friendly and the food was amazing. After days of eating fried food, we were so grateful to find out that they don't fry their seafood here. Their pan fried haddock is batter but not deep fried, so the amazing flavors of the batter stays on the fish but isn't greasy at all. I also had the Seafood bubbly bake which was so creamy and delicious. We got a pack of their seafood seasoning to bring home so we could extend the 'visit' later. I would definitely come back to eat here again. Reservations highly recommended as they are popular with both locals and tourists alike. read more

Quite possibly the best lobster I have ever eaten in my life! The waiters are all super friendly here and the vibe is just perfect with the lighting. I had a glass of white wine with the Lobster Thermidor, and I enjoyed every single bite! This meal was definitely the highlight of my trip to Prince Edward Island - a good tip is to get on the waitlist through Yelp before heading over, as it can be pretty crowded. read more

We've always felt that the Blue Mussel was really a great experience and we tried to go there tonight. Even though they were open till 9 PM, and it was 6:00 PM you have to still get on their online waitlist and it said "the waitlist is closed". What they didn't say was that the restaurant was entirely full and they weren't accepting anyone else. We drove there not knowing that and were told at the front that we couldn't get in. Well, that pissed me off! Because I can see if a place is full, but they should've answered the phone and then someone would've told us that they were full, but that's how they want to do business - everything's online, no personal contact with staff by voice, no one answering the phone. For that, I give them a 1 out of 5. And also my wife and daughter got really sick there two years ago eating oysters! Oh, they gave us $100 gift certificate. Thank you! If you feel like I do and don't want to play their "no reservations" game, then go to the Rustico Cannery. The food and the staff are great, and they answer the phone! read more

Ben at the Anne of green gables bookstore told us to try Blue mussel cafe at North Rustico. Great advice. We sat at the bar in the back. Had a great view of the Harbour. Loved the bartenders. Kept coming across this, and, after biking much of the National Park, this was just down the hill, and sounded perfect. It was. Got there around 3p, so between lunch and dinner crowds. Waitress was willing to give advice, always appreciated. Ended up with mussels, classic prep. Delicious, perfectly cooked. It was a generous serving. Halibut was fresh caught that morning, and recommended by the waitress. It was amazing, like eating a perfectly cooked (fish) steak. Always come here when I visit the island. Food is always second to none. Atmosphere and service are always great. It is pricey but worth every penny and still not as pricey as the sub par food at the nearby all you can eat buffet. I will return again and again. Advice: it's very busy, so avoid peak times and join the wait list before you leave to drive here and you might be able to avoid the wait. When I came here in a Thursday night recently, we were a party of six and no wait list at 4:00pm when we departed (4:30 ETA) for an early dinner. 4:15 we checked again on the way and added to wait list and we were forth in line. 4:28 we got a text that our table was ready so we waited less than 1 min when we arrived at 4:30. They were busy at that time, but all six of us agreed that this was the best Meal by far on the island. read more

Food was alright not what I was expecting. Not happy with the service. We had our name at 1:30 on waiting list for supper which was staring at 4 pm and were told if we go back at 4 we can be seated right away. We were back sharp at 4 but almost whoever came in were taken inside or were sent to the pre restaurant (which I will explain at the end of my review) And after 25 min and asking 4 times and getting upset we were taken inside beside washroom . During the whole time we were asked only once to see if we need anything.we had salmon which had parasites .the lobster was ok but only half a lobster . Linguine was salty but ok.Food here is over rated.Oyster was good but lobster roll was cold we had better one in NB. The thing about this restaurant that was questionable was anyone no matter when arrived were told 40 min wait and they had a side open space that were offered to everyone to seat and eat /drink while waiting ,which we did and we paid 80$ already for 6 oyster(21$) a lobster roll and a beer. I recently went to Blue Oyster Cafe with a group of nine, and honestly, it was a pretty disappointing experience. I ordered the halibut and found a long dark hair in my food. They took it back and promised a new dish in a minute, but it took over 10 minutes to come out. By then, everyone else had already finished eating, and I was left trying to eat while feeling completely grossed out, worrying there might be another hair. When we got the bill, I politely asked if they could take my dish off, considering what happened. Instead of apologizing, the waitress actually accused us of putting the hair there ourselves, which was really upsetting. She also argued that I got "two dishes for the price of one," even though the first one wasn't touched. After some back and forth, they agreed to cover half the cost, but it felt like the waitress was trying to guilt us into thinking she was paying for it herself, which wasn't the case. Despite my requests, they wouldn't take the full price off, and no one ever apologized. For a place with such high prices, I expected way better service and hygiene. Ya. It's ok. Other reviews saying that the seafood is "so fresh" is like saying it rained and we actually got wet. Ok service, food was quickly served. My son wanted the pasta but without the capers and chicken (he's 5), it was explained that this was "impossible" as they only have 6 burners and the dishes were make in bulk. The place does major turnover and it's not relaxing at all. We enjoyed the mussels but you couldn't tell the difference in taste between the beer and lime flavour and the regular. Is pretty basic fare and your really just paying for the view and the location (which is lovely). Hour and a half wait times and a big bill will have our family eating elsewhere on our next visit. Also the comment on the menu board at the entrance that states "kids should be in the park and not at the bar"; no kidding?! No need to explain that to most people. That and the no subs for kids and no kids menu need to be changed. It's a bit offensive and absurd for a place (Pei) where families come in droves to frequent the many beaches on this island to make a family feel like there not welcome and not accommodated. read more

We used the Yelp app and that saved us waiting outside. The app told us when to add our info to the wait list. We arrived 15 minutes later and walked right in to our table. The food was amazing! All of the positive reviews were bang on! The Greens salad was a great mixture of fresh vegetables and pecans. My husband had the haddock and says, " It was perfectly cooked and included a generous portion." I ordered the Seafood Bubbly Bake and it was delicious. It came with a decent sized Greens or Caesar salad. I ate the salad while the seafood bake cooled. Both were very flavourful. For dessert my husband had the blueberry pie and ice cream. The pie was not too sweet and had a nice pastry. I had the pumpkin maple creme brûlée. It was ok. The carmeliized topping was good, but the inside was more like a pumpkin pie filling than a custard. It was one of the daily desserts. I'd suggest opting for one of the other treats instead. Overall, our meal was the best meal we had during our visit to PEI. There was quite a delay from reservation time suggested to actual time of seating but honestly it was worth the wait. The atmosphere was upbeat, fun and at the same time pleasant, efficient and very maritime feeling. Loved the decor, lights and seating arrangements. My husband and I had the seafood chowder and it was by the far the BEST chowder we ever had. Full of fish big pieces and salmon, scallops, mussels. What I really liked was the potatoes didn't overpower the fish they were cut small, just right. The flavor was stunning can't say enough. Perfect size too. My halibut was medium well done not dry and the juices flowed out; it was served with salad with pecans and beets and some dressing I never had before but all lovely. It was gorgeous and flavorful. Super cute vibe at this lovely restaurant right on the water. The food and brews were delicious. We got two dozen of the local Daisy Bay oysters. The house-made seafood sauce and cucumber vinaigrette complemented the fresh, briny oysters perfectly. The seafood chowder was outstanding, packed with seafood and topped with mussels and a drizzle of oil. I found a whole scallop in my small bowl! The chowder was accompanied by a fluffy roll and flavored, salty butter. So delicious! We also had the lobster roll: huge chunks of local lobster on a toasted, buttered bun, and topped with micro greens and lemon zest, for a fresh, citrusy pop of flavor. On the side, a flavorful potato salad, made with PEI's famous potatoes. Yum! We enjoyed two of the house draft beers, the lager and the blonde, both crisp and refreshing. This place is what I call a 'Frommers Find'... one of those places you stumble on somewhat unexpectedly that delivers tenfold what you think it might... from seating, to service, to food, to selections. Our waitress Anna was absolutely delightful. Positive. Efficient. Fabulous. There were six in our party and we started w a few farmhouse salads. Oh so fresh!!!! With pickled onions, candied pecans and this delicious raspberry dressing. Did I mention the garlic bread?! Oh my! Entrees included salmon, sesame tuna, scallops and linguine and chowder. The presentation was gorgeous! And the food was divine! So nice to come to a place that has fun atmosphere and no greasy fries for a change! For dessert we are snagging some chocolate cake made w potatoes and flour! The concept of a cake w potatoes? We are in! I definitely recommend this place... we all do. One of the best restaurants on the island! The staff are wonderful, the food is to die for, and the view of the Rustico Harbour is amazing. You know it's a great quality business when the owner is on site in the kitchen, checking every plate for perfection. Though the lines and wait times can be long, this business is doing the best they can to ensure that everyone on the waitlist gets into the restaurant in a timely manner. Wait times are estimates, not prophecies, and besides; we're all human. Estimates can be right or wrong, guessing when the next table becomes available is difficult. If you haven't worked in customer service before, especially the restaurant industry, you'd be able to see that the staff at this restaurant (notably the hosts and managers managing the long lines) are doing incredible. Keep up the great work BMC! I'll be sure to come back again a and again. read more

Delicious as usual. We joined the wait list for inside around 5pm. We were 56th in line and an estimated time of 8:30-9pm. Although they texted us at 7:50pm, saying our table was ready. We got there at 8pm and were told our table wasn't ready and they weren't sure we were coming because I hadn't "checked in". A little confusing. So we waited another 40 minutes in the car and got another text, saying our table was ready. We had the tuna tartare that was very good. Everyone had seared scallops or linguine with scallops, except me. I had the chicken and it was so moist with tons of baby vegetables and sauce. I usually have the halibut with mango salsa but I had halibut at their sister restaurant in Charlottetown, Slaymaker & Nichols, which is an upscale gastropub in a Victorian house. Finished with Reese's Ice Cream Cake. We'll be back next year. read more

My husband and I just happened upon this wonderful café in 1997. We were on the last leg of a trip from Florida up the eastern coast and are finishing up in P.E.I . with different route home to Pennsylvania. This restaurant is one of the best we were in the whole trip. When were were here, they have a HUGE Buffet filled with just about anything you could think of. Needless to say, we ate well. My husband and I learned about mussels. We had never tasted mussels in our life time, up to then I was 59 years old at that time. They had steamed mussels in galvanized pails and we decided to try them. Let me tell you they were the most sweetest, most delicious seafood we ever had. My daughter and I plus 2 grandchildren had lunch here on Tuesday 25 August, I had a lobster roll, my daughter had fish tacos, and the kids had a cheeseburger, and the other one had Mac and cheese. I enjoyed the lobster roll, my daughter said the fish tacos were good too. The kids were uncommitted as to their meal. HOWEVER, about 30 hours later my daughter and I had very bad bout with food poisoning at the same time. I'm not saying that it was caused by the food we had at Blue Mussel, but the timing is more than coincidental. I'm hoping that this was a one off thing, and nobody else experienced what we did. The Blue Mussel lives up to its great reputation. In our group we tried a range of dishes and each one was delicious and perfectly executed. Our cocktails and mocktails were also unique and tasty. Our server Carla was patient, attentive, and made helpful suggestions. Use the Yelp app to join the waitlist early (opens for dinner bookings at 4pm)!! We had heard about this spot from friends who raved about it. We were not disappointed. Arrived just at noon and got a nice table outside and upstairs. Our server, Amy, was friendly and efficient. Service was just the right speed--got our drinks and then ordered. Never felt rushed nor did we have to wait long for our meals. We had the lobster roll with potato salad and the Married at Sea, which was a beautiful piece of seared tuna with flavourful quinoa. Both were absolutely delicious. The waiting list (used Yelp) worked great! When we got there (as per the app we were told to arrive around 6:05) we were told we could wait at the bar til our table was ready which was nicer than waiting outside. Good service and good food! Love the atmosphere...crowded but not too much. The servers are very bsuy and don't have much room to move. I ordered the mussels and although they were good (not cooked in wine or anything) I was a bit surprised that a piece of baguette/bread wasn't served with it to dip in the mussel juice. Hands down one of the best places to eat a fancy sit down meal on this side of the island! It's definitely a little bit of a wait, but it's well worth it in our opinion! I took my fiancé here on August 1'st 2021 in plans of going out for a nice fancy meal before taking her out on the dock to propose. It worked out beyond perfectly, the meal was everything I had hoped, as well as the drinks were top notch! If you like seafood, then you have to go here. Been on vacation to PEI 3 times and always come here at least twice per trip. Their Halibut is hellagood , the Tuna is terrific, the scallops are scrumptious; and they have something called a Bubly bake: imagine lobster claws, scallops and delicious fish in a creamy sauce with melted cheese over the whole thing. You better be hungry. And of course the muscles are magnificent. Everything is local and fresh from the island. Decor is so nice too. This is my favourite restaurant to visit on Prince Edward Island. My husband and I visited the Blue Mussel Cafe for the second time this evening, Saturday, July 28, 2018, and it was delicious from the first bite to the last. We thoroughly enjoyed the Beer & Lime Mussels (omg so good), then we had the Chicken Bacon Linguini and Seafood Bubbly Bake - both were fantastic! For dessert we shared the lemon raspberry parfait and chocolate potato cake.... the best desserts ever! The staff was delightful and the atmosphere couldn't be better. A must try. The Blue Mussel Cafe is our favourite restaurant on Prince Edward Island. We're locals and look forward to them opening every year:). Occasionally you'll have to wait but it's worth it. We've had just about everything on the menu and we have enjoyed it all so far. Great drink menu too. My favourites are probably the chicken and bacon linguini, chowder poutine, lobster dip, seafood bubbly bake, and their Caesar salad. We went nice and early to this beautiful spot that we had heard great things about on our recent trip to PEI. We were added to the waitlist and popped into the local shops for 40 mins. The restaurant is very pretty, gorgeous location. I had super fresh mussels and the seafood bubble. Both fresh and delicious. My daughter had a strawberry drink and chicken pasta that she loved and we also had the seared tuna which we would recommend- unfortunately they didn't have their halibut, we will have to come back. The waitlist is a definitely a bit frustrating however we went to Dahlia close by for a drink so the hour wait went by quickly. Prepare for it and reduce your stress. The ambiance, the service and most especially the food make the trip to Blur Mussel well worth it. I had the Brie chicken which was very flavourful and perfectly cooked and my husband had the linguine with scallops, delicious! But the desserts...ahhh the desserts. The food was great. We had mussels, the lobster roll dish and the chowder. So good. Our server was delightful. Very friendly and attentive. We went at lunch time and while the line was a bit long we didn't have a long wait. It was very busy but chatting with staff while waiting made the time go quicker. We ate inside and the restaurant itself was clean and very nicely decorated. The patrons all seemed to be enjoying their meals and visiting.
