We bought sandwiches and we're so thrilled with how delicious they were! Perfect picnic lunch idea

Went to try this place out for the first time since it's opened. My friend and I split the turkey bacon melt. Both of us didn't think it had much flavor, but came out warm and crispy. The girl that was working was friendly and explained some of the drinks to us. They were out of the brown sugar boba so the drink I wanted I didn't get. We sat and had our sandwich and while there the place filled up pretty quickly... sorta felt bad that there was only one person working with a line almost to the door. The place is really open seating. I didn't see prices for the ice cream or menus for the ice cream so not sure on the prices for that. We might go and try something different next time. read more

The food is nice but I've been here twice for Togo orders and each time it's taken 30 minutes to prepare a few sandwiches with maybe one person ahead of me. It's one thing if the staff is hustling and they're busy but they're leisurely chatting and seem very relaxed. I recommend Blue Ox Bistro if you have time to wait for your food. Everyone was excited when Blue Ox opened a new store in Susanville. I had heard amazing things about their chocolates so I had to try it. They were delicious. I thought they were a bit pricey, but it is a small town and it may be expensive for them to get in supplies. they recently opened up the bistro and I am excited to try their food. Note: I had originally posted a review that was not as complementary and the owner brought it to my attention that I have been looking at the Westwood menu. Outstanding local business. I ordered the breakfast burrito. I was surprised at how huge it was. Excellent quality. Made to order and finished off on the panini grill. The burrito is served with a house made salsa that is also excellent. They have a great selection of house made chocolate goodies and brittles as well. read more

I was excited to learn that we had a new bakery in town so my husband stopped in to get some fresh bread. He bought the honey and quinoa bread and three puff pastries. The bread was the smallest loaf we have ever seen, being about 6" long and 2" high on the sides. The pastry was advertised as having cream cheese in it, of which we could find none. When he checked out, the staff assisted with the credit card machine and helped himself to a 20% tip, without saying anything about it. The final bill was $34.63, which is outrageous for a miniature loaf of bread and three very small pastries with very little filling, even for a small town bakery. We try to support the local businesses when we can, but will not be returning to the Blue Ox any time soon. **Update: I received a kind message from the owner expressing concern about our experience and saying that she refunded our money. She also said she was going to make some changes to ensure improvements. I was happy to know that the owner has the integrity to try to make things right. As a result, I am changing my rating from one to three stars. read more

I got the jalepeno popper grilled cheese and the flavor was good but the cheese wasn't melted and the jalepenos weren't really cooked so they were crunchy in the sandwich, the staff was polite and atmosphere is cute read more

I was happy to hear that a new restaurant was opening in town as we don't have a lot of good choices here in Susanville. The pros: The staff is courteous and friendly The food is good (when prepared correctly) and reasonably priced. I like the paninis. The chocolates are delicious (but a bit pricey) The cons: They're lacking the details that make for a satisfying and complete restaurant experience. I think this will cost them in terms of customer retention if not improved. The first time I ate here my daughter and I shared a panini and asked for a paper plate but was told "we only provide the food in takeout containers." So we used a napkin as an alternative. The second time I went in for a panini but was told the panini machine was broken and "would you like it grilled?" so I replied "sure, I guess it's just a little difference in texture." When I received the sandwich it had been put on the griddle long enough to give the bread a brownish appearance and make it warm, but not long enough to actually make it crunchy like a panini or grilled cheese sandwich. It was a soggy sandwich, lacking in mouth-feel. These are the small things they need to improve on to survive in the business IMO. I'm sure running a restaurant these days is a challenging proposition, especially in Susanville. I'm thinking a backup panini machine would be a good idea, too, especially seeing as how they are a significant part of the menu. I hope they can improve because I like to see locally owned & operated businesses flourish! read more

I hope the owners read this Pros: happy friendly staff. Relaxing cafe background music, the food was good. I got the breakfast panini and a cinnamon roll. I like my cinnamon rolls a little more gooey and cinnamony, but the panani was good Cons: They ONLY serve food in Togo containers. Very disappointing. I'd like to sit uptown and watch the traffic go by and drink my coffee out of a real cup and eat off of a real plate. The Togo containers are plastic and feels cheep and significantly lowers the dining experience. I asked for a napkin and they gave me a little tiny napkin wrapped with the plastic forks and spoon. Id like to come back, and hang out and bring friends but I'll wait till they get real dishes. Hopefully they make these improvements so that people have a place to come and eat and enjoy the food. read more

Great food but it would be much better if they had plates and regular silverware instead of plastic. And better for the environment!

It's an overall amazing experience. They have amazing food! All the workers are nice and welcoming.
