Absolutely would recommend this restaurant!! It is a bit pricey, however the food was delicious. I had the bacon wrapped meatloaf and it was awesome!! We reserved dinner three weeks prior for a family reunion, 15 of us, and they were VERY accommodating. They had us at two tables at first and we requested that the table be moved together. It's Covid dining 2020. Stopped in for drinks and a quick meal. Like last year, Congress Hall is decorated beautifully. The fireplaces are all cheerfully lit. Tables are well spaced apart with some protected by portable plexiglass barriers. The calamari was delicious and I couldn't get enough of the lemon aioli. I had the chicken BLT which was very good. I came here because I remember the Mac and cheese being tasty and it was just how I remember. I love a good white cheddar Mac and cheese with panko bread crumbs! I got the strawberry mojito, which really just tasted like a strawberry soda. We also got the pork belly, which I prefer to be crispier. I didn't expect the short rib to be so large but was pleasantly surprised by that! However, I was disappointed in the lack of flavor and dryness. Like I've said, these are all just personal preferences. The Blue Pig Tavern is located in Congress Hall and there's a beautiful outdoor space where we took a walk after dinner. The outdoor space is really gorgeous with a great atmosphere and view, except for pigeons randomly attacking people and their food (luckily not us, but we saw it!). The portions are very large, and we ate way too much. But it's because we didn't want any morsel to go to waste. SO good. My food was good. My wife's Mac and Cheese was terrible. No cheese and the Mac was burnt. When we told the waitress she said she would tell the cook. They still charged us $13 for the terrible Mac and Cheese. Lesson: there are many better restaurants in Cape May. read more

I may have had the worst food out in a long time at the Blue Pig the day after Christmas. I ordered a lunch vegetable omelet. I expected the usual -onions, peppers, cheese, etc. The fillings were not listed on the menu. Now I know why. It came filled with uncooked kale and uncooked radishes. It was disgusting and had an awful flavor. Horrible. Service was bad as well. When I told the waiter about the awful omelet- he laughed. My dining companions' meals were not good either. The crab cake was fishy and the chicken wrap dry dry dry. So disappointing. read more

Was willing to give them a Covid pass, but after 5 tries in the last 18 months, I'm officially done with the Blue Pig until they change the menu and consider getting the stick out of their ass. We went a couple times last summer and sat outside and there were some food and service hiccups I was willing to forgive. So we tried again this summer. We went in June and the server refused to allow me to order breakfast and my mom to order lunch, all parties at the table had to order the same meal, despite both being offered. A month later, they refused to serve a grilled cheese for breakfast because it is a lunch item (although today it was refused because it's a breakfast item). Then we drove down to pick up a cake for my birthday at the end of August and i was craving my turkey sandwich. We called and called and called to order and they just refuse to answer the phone, when confronted they say, yes we don't answer. So we got there at 2:50 and were told that they would not make the sandwich because they stop serving lunch at 3. Spoke to the manager and he just shrugged his shoulders. Gregory is useless and has absolutely no control over anything and can get nothing done at the front desk. I guess I wanted to put the nail in the coffin because I made a reservation for today and we sat for half an hour (I had to get up and tell gregory at the front desk twice and he could accomplish nothing.) Finally, a surly waitress with an attitude came over and refused to allow an order for a grilled cheese. We finally had enough. Beware if you're sitting near the stacked logs by the fireplace, they're covered in cobwebs. If you're going to charge $17 for a turkey sandwich, dust the damn logs. There are 4 sandwiches on the menu and they're lackluster, you're better off somewhere else. The best decision we made today was leaving. We went to the mad batter and were not disappointed. You're only going to be able to ride the Covid wave of "there's not enough help" or Covid made me do it for so long until people realize that other places are doing just fine and being less pretentious. read more

We had breakfast around 11am outside in the back of the hotel. The tables were spaced appropriately for social distancing. Congress Hall has an old, historic atmosphere and charm. They offered a special Farm-Fresh Tomato Menu from Beach Plum Farm (one of their sister properties). We ordered the BPF Tomato Melt, The Congressional, The Blue Pig Tavern Skillet, and mimosas. The food and drinks were very good, but they lose a star at the fact that they had no protection against the seagulls! Other restaurants had netting/wires, but not here. As soon as a table would get up to leave, they would come swooping in and start pecking at the leftovers on the table. Located inside the Congressional hall, this is another restaurant making you feel like you're eating at George Washingtons summer home. The food was just okay. Beer batter calamari was good but it wasn't amazing. The steak and cake felt like you were eating at Outback. The yolk from the deviled eggs were made with horseradish. Maybe it's called the Blue Pig because it's pathetic and sad? This place is simply surviving by the fact it's part of Congress Hall. First complaint is at the peak of summer season there is no specials for dinner service. Our waitress was excellent and zero complaints about the actual service. Appetizers (calamari, clam chowder, oysters) were all decent. Calamari a bit cold upon service. The rolls were not made on-site and commercially prepared warm and serve. The four meals ordered were totally uninspired. The plain diner-style hamburger came with frozen fries. The spaghetti with sausage bolognese was small but decent. The third disappointment dinner was (4) 10/20 scallops. Finally the steak and cake meal was the best but lacked in portion size. Deserts were good and no complaints. The Blue Pig Tavern is stale and tired. It seems the chef is simply mailing it in every night. Given its absolute gold mine of a location it would be impossible to fail and that's what they count on. Sadly they're failing. The City of Cape May offers countless other options and most will be more satisfying. read more

Regarding COVID - doing a wonderful job with social distancing! All the tables are six feet apart or more and spaced out nicely along a big walkway with a covering in case it rains. Staff were all wearing masks, tables were cleared off quickly. The food hit the spot, but it was just fine. There was a lot of hype around this place and when we scored a table we thought we hit it big time. Started with raw oysters - they were cold and delicious - and fried calamari - nothing spectacular, but the lemon aioli was a nice change to go with the traditional marinara. We also enjoyed the bacon wrapped meat loaf and the angel hair pasta with shrimp. Everything was cooked well, just didn't leave us wanting more. The menu hardly had anything on it which made it difficult to choose from OVERALL: This place is okay and since it's a part of the hotel I would suggest going to it if you're staying there. Given the invitation of an elegant beach side cafe by the sand, the Blue Pig is the main restaurant on the resort property and it shouldn't be overlooked. It's not overly fancy, but the rustic chic character, whether you're dining under the twinkle lights and stars outside, or next to the roaring fireplace inside does make you want to dress up a little. I've had the pleasure of dining here a couple of times, both for brunch and dinner. They are farm to table, sourcing their ingredients from Beach Plum farm nearby in Cape May. If you aren't familiar with Cape May, I noticed the waitstaff will remind you from time to time. In a sense, I can appreciate the reassurance knowing where food I didn't prepare is coming from so thanks for that. The brunch menu doesn't get too complicated, but does get gussied up with your Benedict's and choice of gourmet coffee and of course mimosas if you don't have a chance to patronize nearby Tommy Folly's. The restaurant does participate in various specials. We patronized once during restaurant week, but did not participate and was grateful to see the menu. The menu is a medley of Italian-American and seafood, something for mostly everyone or romantics except slim pickings for vegetarians and vegans. I'm sure they can pick up one or two fabulous vegan entrees, even if it's just a Beyond Burger. My favorite though is the salmon, well prepared and tasted very light but satiating. When my husband ordered the bolognese once, he enjoyed it but remarked there could perhaps be a little more meat in the bolognese. The restaurant does get loud, at times, and the other two dining options on site aren't much better if you were hoping for quiet and dimly lit but there are certain hours of reprieve. Open to hotel guests and the public. Dining credits are sometimes offered for hotel guests. If you're coming to just dine here, I recommend parking valet or finding metered parking which is much easier during the off season. read more

We've been several times over the years, enjoy enough that we think to come back. This time, the service was very uneven. Our waitress Colleen was great, a tall hostess named Debbie was helpful. The short brown-haired lady who seemed to be main hostess was awful. Did not greet us, had us waiting for a long time while she figured out how to seat a large party with no reservation. Did not apologize for wait. Really bad start to the dining experience. Our two-top was tucked away (nice) but at the entrance of kitchen and one waitress would yell very loudly and unpleasantly "Incoming!" each time she entered. It was strange because literally no one else did that. Maybe she got knocked down once? Anyhow, it did not add nicely to the ambiance. Food was decent. I always love coming to the Blue Pig Tavern! This time, we sat outside, and we loved how spacious it was and the cute string lights they have as well. The one downside is that they had a heavy outdoor heater RIGHT behind my chair so I couldn't sit down for a few minutes until the waitress helped pull it out of the way for me to sit down. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating! I ordered a cranberry juice and the pumpkin stuffed french toast. I originally wanted the strawberry stuffed french toast, as I saw it on the online menu, but saw the pumpkin on the menu in person instead. The stuffed french toast was wayyy too much for me. The slices were two HUGE brioche slices and had a THICK THICK layer of pumpkin/mascarpone in between. I have a huge sweet tooth, but this was too much for me. read more

Was super hot so I assumed the server forgot to order it and the kitchen got it out quick. Server disappeared for another 20 minutes. Lunch showed up 30 minutes later for 4 people. Food tasted good. One sandwich had wrong side. I got the mussels which were decent. Half of them were super tiny, half were plump and juicy. If kitchen has staffing issues, mgt shouldn't seat the entire restaurant plus other service areas. 3X the server said the kitchen was making all the mistakes and they were behind. Total time there 90 minutes. Total time we were planning on using for lunch, 45min hour MAX Wouldn't go back. Plenty of other places. read more
