I should be honest: I first went to Kaiser's audiology department. I did that twice over several years. The first time I learned a lot and discovered that I had a significant hearing loss. But Kaiser didn't have a facility where I could put together what I learned with an actual hearing aid. The tester gave me a pamphlet for a company in Oakland. But there was no recommendation, and there was no connection to my physician. So when the hearing loss became more and more a handicap I did some research about hearing facilities in the Oakland/Berkeley area. I liked what I read about Blue Sky. I knew cost would be a factor. Hearing aids are expensive. So I mulled over the idea of making an appointment because of cost. Then one day when I felt embarrassed to be asking for repetition again from colleagues and students, I decided that hearing is one of the most important aspects of life. If I were going to pinch pennies, I should do it someplace else, not in my hearing. I've never been sorry. Dr. Storm was friendly and helpful. She answered every question and explained every part of the exam. I learned that I had a more significant loss than I thought, and I had no idea what a hearing aid would do for me. Bluetooth phone calls, and Audible right inside my head. As a student of the French language, I suddenly realized that I wasn't hearing a lot of the sounds, my comprehension improved immediately once I had the hearing aid. All in all, I recommend Blue Sky. They are always there if you have a problem, Emily is very friendly and helpful on the phone, and Dr. Storm is friendly, honest, and clear in explaining everything. I enjoy every appointment. My mother is 99 and she uses hearing aids. Her old location closed so we searched for a new audiologist. We had two recommendations from people in the medical profession so Blue Sky was an easy decision. My mother arrived hardly able to hear unless I yelled. She left telling me I was talking too loud. I have had a confusing experience with hearing loss(probably aging) and vertigo. I needed to find a different provider and was told about Blue Sky from a friend. I am writing to share with the Yelp community my 4 year experience with Dr. Susanna Storm and Kathy Szabo. The headline here is Blue Sky Hearing provides excellent service at reasonable cost. I was treated for hearing loss by Dr. Storm (and Dr. Elise Gregoire) 4 years ago (Starkey Soundlens 2 110IIC) and was pretty happy the first 2 years with the devices. Over the past 18 months, however, the devices started to fail on me presenting numerous issues. I would guess I had to visit with Dr. Storm at least 12 times in the past 9 months and most visits involved sending one of the devices to Starkey to be repaired. Last month, Dr. Storm told me that she told Starkey "enough is enough" and refused to accept the returned devices arguing that the only appropriate solution is to give me a new set of devices. The basic issue was the devices would just turn themselves off randomly . Whenever Starkey got them for inspection and repair they couldn't always get the problem to replicate itself and returned them claiming all the inner parts had been replaced. And then 2 -3 weeks later I'd be back with the same issue. I really appreciated Dr. Storm going to bat for me and persuading Starkey to "do the right thing" by a loyal client. And to Starkey's credit they agreed with Dr. Storm's suggestion. Now, I have a new pair of devices with a new 3 year warranty and I am very happy with my new set of hearing aids. It's so rare these days for a service provider to do the right thing especially when it deprives the provider from selling a replacement to the client and so when Dr. Storm did just this for me I especially appreciated it. And they've earned my loyalties for life. Kudos to Dr. Storm and Kathy Szabo for their diligence in working with me through all the issues I had and with the device and making the decision that fighting with the vendor for their client was the right outcome. And a heartfelt thank you to Blue Sky Hearing for being there for me when I really needed their support. read more

I highly recommend Blue Sky Hearing! For many years I was a client of Mr. Richard Stone. Mr. Stone recommended Susanna Storm, Doctor of Audiology at Blue Sky Hearing, as his replacement. My appointment with Dr. Storm was to change my old, hardened tubes. I knew the tubes needed changing and devices needed cleaning but I did not realize the poor state of my devices. In a few short minutes, Dr. Storm replaced the tubes, thoroughly cleaned both devices, and gave me a short tutorial on how I can better care for my hearing aids. It was a short appointment but it did not take long to understand how professional and knowledgeable Dr. Storm is and what a pleasant person she is to work with. As a result of the cleaning, I had to substantially lower the volume on my hearing devices -- they now work how they are meant to work. Dr. Storm is great. I told her the problem, she had an answer immediately. She did an impression of my ears and ordered a custom set of earplugs to help me sleep better with my CPAP machine. Even though her office will be closed for the holidays, she offered to check frequently during that time, and if the plugs arrive, she will call me to come in special to pick them up. I just returned from a stellar experience at Blue Sky Hearing in Berkeley, CA. My prior audiologist on Piedmont Ave had passed away, leaving me unable to return with a hearing aid that wasn't working. From the time I called Blue Sky and spoke with Emily, through meeting with Dr Susanna Storm, I was well treated with my hearing needs addressed. Dr Storm was able to talk with me, fix my hearing aid, talk about next steps, and make the process completely seamless. I plan to return to this office as soon as I get vaccinated, and stay on as a client. I usually don't leave reviews, but I felt this really deserved a big "Brava." Very professional and clean. However, after getting fitted for a hearing aid for approx. $2000, I was told there was an additional fee of either another $2000 for a year of service, or $2500 for a year of service. Most other hearing centers are approx $2800 which covers everything. Blue Sky is almost double what others charge. read more

I've been wearing hearing aids ever since I was five -- I'm middle-aged now -- so naturally I'm extremely familiar with all kinds of hearing aid providers and audiologists. Blue Sky Hearing is far and away the best place I've been to, and that's saying a lot. Amazing customer service, deep knowledge of the latest, evolving technology, and competitive, transparent, tiered pricing based on your needs and budget. To the uninitiated, buying hearing aids is not like picking up a TV from Costco or Best Buy: every hearing loss is unique, requiring a lot of personalized care, attention and fine-tuning over multiple visits. Most of all, Drs. Storm and Gregoire show great empathy, enthusiasm and fun! I visited there needing an adjustment to a hearing aid(not purchased at Blue Sky) They needed some more information on my aid so I emailed it to them. Two weeks in,never heard back. Contacted them again and they said they'd get right back to me. 2nd time, never heard, went in and again they would get right back. Still have never heard back. Went to another center and got immediate attention. 'Seems they just don't have the goodwill in assisting random customers. Wish they would just tell you at the outset they only service their own customers and not waste my time, instead, using subtleties of ignoring you in hopes you'll just exit! read more

I had a poor customer service experience here both yesterday and today. When I expressed my concerns to Dr. Gregoire about this today, she gave me the impression that she did not believe me (she said not many others had complained) and did nothing to rectify the situation. They charge over $400 per hour and charged me $52 just to reattach one of my tubes to its earmold, which took less than ten minutes. When I asked for an explanation of the charges from their receptionist, she told me, "I don't know. That's just how much it costs." I had to ask her specifically to ask the audiologist why I was being charged so much, which is something the receptionist should have known how to answer herself in a professional manner. I was there yesterday as well with the same need and encountered the same overall unhelpful demeanor from the receptionist. I have a profound hearing loss and work a job in customer service that barely pays more than minimum wage. If this place is going to nickel and dime hard working people like me, they should at least provide the very best service. They were also very reluctant to provide a recommendation for someplace more affordable. Dr. Gregoire left the room saying it would be "very difficult" for her to do that and then returned without giving any solid recommendations. Very disappointed! read more

I love Blue Sky! I have been with Elise Gregoire since before Blue Sky was Blue Sky. I followed her here because of the great care I receive from her (Dr. Storm as well.) I even referred a neighbor, and now she's seeing them, too. Both Doc's "get" hearing loss which, surprisingly, isn't that common in the field in my experience. I first came to know Dr. Storm when she worked for another provider and I needed help with my Father's severe hearing loss. She was extremely knowledgeable and upgraded his hearing aids. Then she and her crew struck out on their own and Blue Sky was founded. They upgraded my Father's hearing aids once again with cutting-edge devices and adapted additional Blue-Tooth "bells and whistles" that he had previously purchased, to fit the new devices. You get what you pay for...knowledge, experience and professionalism. They were so good, they convinced me to attend to my negligible hearing loss and get hearing aids for myself.
