What a beautiful restaurant. We made a reservation and we were seated right away. **Know that parking can be a little tough so just know that going in. Miso soup is by far my favorite thing in the world but I just didn't love it. There was a little bit of a smell that didn't sit right with me. My husband on the other hand loved it! I couldn't pinpoint the flavor that I didn't care for. Crispy Brussel Sprouts - deep fried super greasy and just not great. The both of us didn't like it. Now, the Mango Crab Rangoon - husband loved them! Husband loved the Lion King Roll I had the Philly Roll. It was good. We do want to go back as the menu is huge. Solid, solid, solid sushi. Very, very good service by Izzy (ask for her table). They had Kiren beer on draft which was a good start. Note to management, the Kiren could be colder. It was cool but not as cold as I would like. The Edamame was very good! Came seasoned with garlic with a splash of spicyness, get this. Also had the Calamari and it was very good. We had two roles - Thriller and Lion King rolls. Both were fresh and did not disappoint. Hack, if you tend to get cold in a restaraunt bring a sweater. We came in for happy hour which I thought offered a great selection of sushi, apps, and drinks. The china doll cocktail wasn't very strong but I loved the flavor that the jasmine tea gave the drink. As for sushi we decided to try a handful of things on the happy hour menu. I didn't find the mango crab ragoons to have that much of a mango flavor. I saw the mango sauce but there was not enough of it. We tried the lion king roll, the tidal wave roll, the crunchy blue roll, and the Cabo roll. I was not a huge fan of the crunchy blue or the Cabo. They are very simple rolls but I was disappointed in the amount of tuna in my Cabo roll. I have honestly never had a roll with such a tiny amount of fish before but for the price I can't complain. We loved the lion king roll though! We ordered a second one. The service was overall good. I would say for how slow the restaurant seemed it took a little while to get us seated. It also took a little while for a host to make their way over but from there on I feel like the service was good and the food came out in a timely manner. We've been to the Blue Sushi in Tempe but the paid parking is annoying, so we thought we'd take a day trip to Surprise and check out some thrift/antique stores while out west. To start - the drive there from north central Phoenix is unpleasant. We meandered through surface streets and got lost a few times, but we made it eventually. Next time (if there is one) we'll take the longer freeway route. The layout/feel is the same as Tempe - well decorated, open, comfortable and a touch chilly. We were seated immediately and our waiter was right on the spot. We went for their Veganuary specials but ended up ordering of the extensive all day happy our menu instead. I got the vegan lettuce wraps while my husband ordered the Eden rolls - both vegan. I also got a Night Swim saki. My lettuce wraps came out quickly and were perfect. I really love them! The tofu is prepared well - cooked but not dry - and it's just delicious. However, I was almost done with my meal by the time my husband's rolls came out. They were not slammed - it was mid-afternoon on a Tuesday and only maybe five other tables seated. We were near the sushi area so we saw our waiter check twice - it wasn't his fault - they were just really slow. Thusly, minus one star from my review. When they did arrive - they were great. No worries there. But it did seem a bit excessive. Our waiter was apologetic and put up with our talk story for a bit. Overall, we'll go back for the vegan options, but probably to Tempe. read more

This was our first time to this restaurant and really enjoyed our experience. The wait staff was friendly and decor and ambience in this place was upscale / modern. We had the ceviche as an appetizer which was fresh and tasty along with some spicy edamame. We tried a few different sushi rolls and loved the fact that they have an all day happy hour on Sunday's with a wide variety of items to choose from. We ordered so much I forgot to take note of which rolls specifically we had but all were tasty and plentiful. The miso soup was also a great start to the meal. I am glad that they don't always recognize me here yet, but this is one of my favorite places to come and eat at. I'm glad they did the veganuary this year I think last year it was just the Phoenix location. Regardless I always have great service here no matter who I can convince to tag along with me. I appreciate the large menu they have for everyone I've managed to help even the pickiest eaters find something to get here while I go crazy on their expansive vegan offerings. The foods always fresh and taste great. The staff is always attentive and helpful and don't make me feel silly when I come without friends or family or when they've seen me come within a few short days of my last visit. This visit to blue sushi sake Grill was average at best. I've been multiple times and have had a better experience. Today we came on a Sunday which has all day happy hour. I honestly don't feel the happy hour menu is as strong as I would expect or want. And that's my fault and it's very limited overall from each category and it might be a couple bucks here and there that you save. With that, we opted to have a few items off of the happy hour menu, but the rest was off the main menu. We did not have any alcohol/cocktails. We had the Cabo roll in LA roll, thriller, tuna tower, lettuce, wraps, and the coconut crab soup. The soup is always the best. However, I will say we did order one to go and it came in when I thought was a smaller container than the actual presentation in the restaurant in a black bowl. I could be totally wrong, but I guess observation and perception is everything. We definitely did not care for the thriller roll and and would not order that again. Service was friendly and professional, and started out attentive, but towards the end of the meal waned off a little. We had to wait for longer periods for check backs and have our plates removed and we never received any water refills although we were asked multiple times if we wanted a soda refill. Cool vibes great music. We sat at a table along the garage window doors, but the sun was blasting through it and by the end of our meal towards 3:30 PM we were cooking. We probably would've moved sooner in our meal had we anticipated this. There's a large variety of Nigiri, sushi, and including vegan and vegetarian options, which are great. However, I feel some of the rolls are just the same components with a different sauce, for example tuna or crab mix, and then top with ponzu or an eel sauce it's basically the same thing. We probably would come back as it's convenient. Parking in the entire center can be challenging so bring your patience. read more

Stopped in today with my family for while they're in town to enjoy some sushi. They had just opened for the day which was great with no wait. We got seated right away near a window and started looking over the menus. We love the options and prices on the happy hour menu, but I always opt for a full price role as well. Today I ordered my usual Lion King role but also added the roja roll along with the beach which is one I haven't tried. I added the mango crab rangoons as an appetizer. We ordered quite a few more rolls and edamame as well. Kaitlin (hope I spelled it right) our server was wonderful. She was funny, entertaining and stayed on top of not only our drink refills but checking on us throughout to make sure we are happy. I first tried this franchise in Omaha, NE 2 years ago and I have raved about it ever since. The closest one to me is in Ohio, which is about an 8 hour drive, so once I heard this opened up near my sister in Peoria, I told her immediately this is where I wanted to go when I visit her. I remember loving the charred edamame, and while it was still good, this one was way too salty. I don't remember it being salty before so not sure if this was a bad batch we got or if it's always that salty. My favorite thing about it though is the crispy garlic and charred flavor. The rolls were just as amazing as I remembered. As a vegetarian, it makes me so happy to have such unique vegan options! Of the two I got, the Thai Hippie was my favorite (and was last time too). I also got the China Doll cocktail, which was so cute and super refreshing. I don't like drinks that taste like alcohol and this one definitely didn't, nor was it too sweet. Something unique that we have not had anywhere else. The flavor was Amazing! The shishito peppers were delicious and there were definitely a few that were very spicy. The mango crab rangoons were not too sweet and the mango sauce was perfect with it. Sushi: Cherry Bomb was a bit of a let down as it sounds like it will be spicy, and there was really no heat. Caitlyn and Felicia (In Training) are super fun, knowledgeable and accommodating. They made our Dining Experience Memorable! The Manager stopped by our table numerous times to see if everything was satisfactory, nice touch! Stopped in for Friday happy hour and ate at the bar. We got the Crunchy LA, Crunchy Red, and Cabo rolls. Overall I'd say they were fine but lacked any substantial amount of flavor. For this side of town, it's a decent sushi option but I've certainly had better. Also had a couple Kirin drafts. We wanted to do sake bombs but the bartender told us they're just a tiny amount of beer and a sake shot. Totally different from most sushi spots where they serve a larger beer with a small carafe of sake. The service was also a bit lacking as they had multiple bartenders but we had to keep asking to order, asking for our check, etc. Seemed a little disorganized. The decor inside is fun and we did not go for HH and that's what everyone raves about. Gave me RA sushi vibes circa early 2000s because the portions are small and prices are high. We ordered: -mango crab ragoons. They were ok. Needed more sauce to make the mango stand out. -crispy rice tuna. Very small portion. I think they took one serving and cut it into four slices. lol. -shishito peppers because of server raved about how amazing the sauce was. But it tasted very ponzu heavy. -cucumber salad. Probably one of the saddest portions Ive had anywhere. I mean, at give me one cucumber worth? lol it was maybe 10 slices of cucumber. -4 rolls all of which didn't have any flavor. I was convinced my tastebuds were broken because everything lacked flavor. The one that actually tasted like anything was because of the spicy mayo and Serrano on top. The rolls while creative seemed to be somewhat bland and lacking the flavor punch I've experienced at other sushi joints. Very reasonable happy hour on rolls drinks and appetizers. Was pleased with our overall experience and I'm glad we gave it a try as it was under construction for a long time but would prefer the other options nearby based on my tastes. Extremely Disappointing Experience I've never been more let down by a restaurant than I was at Blue Sushi Sake Grill. My family of five walked in excited to try the happy hour menu around 3PM. After standing around for 10 minutes without being seated, we were told they only had one server--during a supposed happy hour. Seriously? We came ready to spend good money and enjoy a nice meal together, but instead we got zero service and a complete lack of hospitality. First and last time in. Unfortunately 1 star is the lowest I can give. Our bartender/waiter was super nice. I felt bad for him but I can't give 5 stars in good conscience. The portions are extremely tiny and over priced. We ordered the hot rock "shareable". That's a joke. It's barely enough for one person. I ordered the salmon truffle. The slices of fish were so thin, they were almost transparent. We also ordered an order of yellowtail, bowl of rice and another appetizer (can't remember what, something that was like a crab wonton with cilantro.). We literally never got any of it. We asked twice. As a consolation, they gave my husband a free beer while I sat there with not even a glass of water. (guess they assume the guys are the ones paying) other people who came in after us were being served. Waited at least an hour after being told they were busy and it would be "coming right up" we finally gave up and tabbed out. Two managers were involved and neither could get a bowl of rice, yellowtail and a simple appetizer handled. I do not recommend. Don't waste your money and time. What a fabulous restaurant! First time here and we were very impressed! The atmosphere was amazing, the restaurant was clean and the staff was very friendly, especially with everyone greeting you as you enter, as well as saying goodbye when you leave!
