We decided to finally try out this restaurant for some sushi & left saying how amazing everything was! This restaurant is located in a strip mall attached to some other great spots! The restaurant itself is definitely on the smaller side but they also have outdoor dining as an option. This is what one would call a hidden gem because we were definitely not disappointed as we were walking away. Once you sit down you'll realize that this is a restaurant where you're having several random servers taking care of you. So once we finally decided on our choices everything came out fairly quickly even with there being a half full restaurant. We started with some pork gyozas which is one of my husband's favorites & he was happily pleased... they were very fresh. We also had some of the tempura shrimp & onion which were both perfectly cooked without being greasy. As for the sushi we went with the shrimp tempura roll which was some of the best, the rice was cooked perfect plus everything was balanced just right. Stopped in with friends to try it for my first time. I got one of the deep fried rolls. Sadly my roll tasted like funnel cake and had a weird sweet taste to it. When we entered the establishment it smelt like funnel cake as well so not sure lol. Everyone else enjoyed their rolls and they have been before. Our group had a wonderful experience at lunch today! We're lovers of their downtown location and figured it was worth the drive to check out their new location as well. Chef T was friendly and generous, recommending a delicious Toro Trio special to go with our yellowtail carpaccio (our fav!!). We loved the negitoro roll in particular: a perfect blend of savory fish and scallion. We also tried the sashimi sampler, which included 4 different kinds of sashimi, all fresh and all delicious. In our experience, it is the details that make it such a great restaurant: the fish is incredibly fresh, the fresh wasabi is the perfect complement, and the service, from the chef on down, was exceptional. While the space was clean and there were lots of employees, service was not great and the rice on all of the rolls tasted like it wasn't fresh. Have been wanting to try this place out for so long now. This location is really convenient because there is so much parking available in the lot outside. We went on a Monday night and sat outside which was perfect. The food was fast to come out and their service style is cool, whoever is available will help and check in on you. They surprised us with the yellowtail carpaccio which was compliments of the chef which was incredibly kind. The fish was tender, the hot Havana had wonderful flavor. The restaurant is small and cozy, which I actually liked it had a relaxed, intimate vibe. Unfortunately, the food and service didn't quite hit the mark. The crispy rice was too crispy almost hard to bite through and the crunch roll was overwhelmed by too much eel sauce, which masked the other flavors. Service was just okay. Our waiter was polite, but we waited quite a while between check-ins, which made the meal feel a bit dragged out. There is an enclosed patio with heaters and an inside seating area with eight tables and sushi bar seating. We met friends for dinner. We ordered the Crunch Mango roll, chicken gyoza, seaweed salad, 2 bowls of chirashi Don and sake. The roll had mango, crab, rice, salmon and ahi. The chirashi don is sushi rice with assorted sashimi. Management this review is for you to see. I've been to the Harumi in downtown a few times and I'm disappointed to say that this location did not stack up and unfortunately I believe it comes down to the details and taking your job seriously. You can see my receipt that's attached for what we ordered. I did order in person because the functionality of the online ordering system whether that's intentional or not is just very lacking. Ordering online you're not able to make simple modifications to your food or requests. Let me just say management, your front of the house staff is doing a great job and they're very friendly. From what I could see the restaurant looked pretty clean. The server that was helping me was a short blonde girl and she took her time making sure that our order was input exactly how we wanted it, no crazy modifications, things like no wasabi on the food and sauce on the side for the rolls. I feel like these are common requests and she made sure the order was accurate. AFTER she puts the order into the POS system she goes back to the chefs and explains line by line exactly what the modifications mean. The chef that she's explaining the order to I believe was a white male, he doesn't fully understand so she explains again. I pulled up a chair and waited for my food at this point, near the end of dinner service at this point in the night, i believe there were 3 tables inside. Some of the food comes out and there's mistakes on the orders, so the server who took my order goes back to the chef and asks him to correct the order. After a few minutes she goes back to him and let's him know that he's made another mistake.... keep in mind im sitting like 6 feet from them and I can see all this happening. He makes part of the order for the 3rd time and he jokingly says to the server "let me know if theres anything else wrong with that". Chef, I don't understand why you're so okay with doing a sub par job. Customers are paying good money to get the food that they ordered and they would like their food how they enjoy eating it. You're wasting our time, the servers time, and the owners money throwing away product and increasing food cost for the restaurant. Management/Owner if you're wondering why your food cost is high, look into WASTE! If you're wondering why some customers aren't coming back look at the food coming out. After waiting about 30 minutes to get my food, I drive home and low and behold, all the food has sauce on it (we requested sauce on the side for all the rolls).... AND LOOK at that poor excuse of a yellowtail cut roll. I'm not even talking about the size of it, look how it's rolled and just falling apart just sitting there. We've been here a couple times and are always happy with the service and food. I still hold favoritism for the downtown Phoenix location, as the dining area is a lot more elevated and spacious and I do feel the sushi does taste better, plus they have cocktail drinks. BUT putting aside that preference, this location continues to deliver absolutely delicious sushi that's reflects the same items that you'll find in the other. We've always been quickly seated regardless of group sizes ranging from 2-6 people. The food is prepared and delivered in a timely manner, and the service team all works together to ensure that your dining experience is a positive one. I've been to this restaurant in the past and always enjoyed it, but this time it was really off. Ordered the Oh, My God roll, which was still really good, but our server didn't warm it up sufficiently. As we'd already eaten some of it, we didn't ask for a replacement; the chef just torched it a bit to warm it some. It still wasn't warm enough but we didn't want to be complainers. I mentioned that it was my friend's birthday and the server said, "Oh, I'll bring you some complimentary mochi!" That never appeared at all. I am a generous tipper for great service, but I didn't think she made much of an effort so I selected 18% and she seemed REALLY PEEVED. I'm hoping she learned something from our poor experience. Fuji - tuna, salmon & avocado topped with scallops, tobiko wrapped with soy paper -this was pretty good, I really enjoy any roll with scallops, so 9/10 Spicy Scallop nigiri - scallops topped with sriracha and chili crunch oil. In constant search of good sushi anywhere my travels take me in the great Phoenix metro area. This place was absolutely amazing! Some of the best sushi I have had here in Phoenix. Yellowtail Carpaccio was so different than anything I have had but will definitely have it again. We had a special toro selection plate. Well worth the money! The purple rice was amazing! Harumi Roll was very enticing but will have to wait for a next trip to Harumi. We were pretty full after the miso soup and Gyoza appetizer as well. It was all good. We had to wait 50 minutes for a table but well worth the wait. The staff was incredible. When you want something from the menu you ask any wait staff in black. So many sushi places only have the paste wasabi. They have the fresh wasabi here. Some dishes come with it. We also bought a dish of the wasabi as we love the fresh stuff! I'm a day 1 Harumi fan, it's always been my all time favorite sushi place in Arizona. My home base has always been the downtown phoenix location at their old spot before they remodeled and moved, and even now at their newly renovated location across the street. Now that I live in north phoenix, I decided to try the Peoria location. This location is more like the old location in downtown before the renovation. They have old menu items, like the sunkissed roll which isn't offered anymore at the renovated location, which is a shrimp tempura roll with seared salmon and cheese on top which used to be my go to, and is still really good. My frustration is that they weren't offering anything that's fried which was a lot of their items on the menu. Not sure if their deep fryer is broken, but it significantly affected the options of what I was planning to order. Unfortunately they also don't have the ahi tuna crispy rice like the downtown location, which is their most popular menu item. Little disappointed coming here, also considering it took nearly 30 minutes to receive a takeout order for 1 roll. This location is much smaller but it's cute and reminds me of the old location. I do not come here for the purple rice. I come here because the sushi is good, but I guess the "forbidden" purple rice adds a nice aesthetic twist to sushi. It's incredibly convenient having a Harumi location on the west side of the valley, an area that has sushi options but not as many as the east valley or downtown as though we didn't want it or deserve it, but because Harumi took a chance with opening here, I am forever grateful. The Oh My God roll is the showboat of the rolls because they light it on fire and it has a mild smokey taste that's just right and doesn't overpower the roll. They usually showcase it doing turns with the foil as it warms up in the fire as they turn it side to side as I freak out that the waiters will burn their hands. Even a little of the flame ended up on the table yet did not set the table on fire, which unwillingly pushed me to say "Oh My God!" hilariously on cue. Anyway, it always ends up being a show even if I say they don't have to do it and it's just as delicious as it looks if not better. I'd be surprised if it's not their most popular one. The sashimi appetizer is simple and straight forward as it should be. The sliced sampling of fish is a nice way to try each fish in pure form and texture without being unadulterated creatively in a roll. We always order fresh wasabi as I tremendously prefer it to the wasabi paste mush always served with sushi. If you haven't yet, I recommend trying it because it will blow your mind and (clear your sinuses, haha!) if you're on the flavor forward-adventurous side and don't mind some spice to your life. The Hot Havana roll is a spicy roll but being crazy, I still put fresh wasabi on that too. I had to order without mango due to a food allergy but I bet it's even more amazing with it because mango once was my favorite fruit before I became ill-fated with a dumb allergy. It is pretty spicy of a roll but not overwhelmingly spicy. It's quite enjoyable! I've ordered the Mt. Fuji roll a few times and the garlic chili sauce really sets this roll apart from the others. I should just order some of the sauce on the side and bathe other rolls in it too since it's so savory. Unagi nigiri and sweet shrimp are two things I always order at every sushi restaurant we go to. I like the way they do unagi here. They even put little crispy flakes on top of it to add a slight crunch. Unconventional, but good! The sweet shrimp is also a balance between raw and crispy. On one end, you have completely tender and soft plump little shrimp with fresh wasabi accents. Then on the other, you have flash fried shrimp heads which boast a salty, crispy, crunchy goodness - similar to soft shell crab but there is actual meat inside the shrimp heads. Weird, I know. The food quality was noticeably below what I've experienced here before--some rolls and chef's specials were poorly prepared. We shared our concerns with our server who said he would advise the manager. We were hoping for at least an acknowledgment or effort to make things right, but the response was dismissive. Chandeliers from the ceiling, a "sushi bar" you can't see over or through, outdoor patio, no decor, etc. Then we wanted their signature "omekase". But (at 6:00 pm) they were "out of uni" (and had been for a week), out if yellowtail kama (only had 1 for the day), and we were told "omekase" comes all at the same time on a platter, and it will take 1-1.5 hrs to arrive because they have "other orders they're working on". In a restaurant that was half-empty. So, basically, they have tuna, yellowtail, scallop, shrimp, unagi, and octopus. Mostly cater to people ordering rolls. Sorry Peoria, Arizona. You still don't have an authentic Japanese sushi restaurant. read more

The spicy tuna roll was extremely disappointing, the fish did not taste good at all and it was not fresh. Yes, I do realize we live in a desert, but if other sushi restaurants can do it, why not them. The specialty rolls were gross and not edible, WAY too much sauce on them. Lastly, service is annoying.
