We live in town and frequent Blue Tractor throughout the year. We typically love Blue Tractor, but this last time we went (Monday 10/14), it was a very disappointing experience. To begin, the waitress passed out our menus and left us to review them after sharing the specials. When we went to order (the mushroom burger- only vegetarian burger option they have), she stated they were out of it. She then left us to look over the menu again and make a new selection. When she returned, one person in our party of 4 ordered a burger- a second person went to order a burger and the waitress stated that they only had one burger left in the restaurant. We expressed frustration that she had not stated this at the time she informed us there were no more veggie burgers. She then left again so we could review the menu and select yet a third choice for our meals. We decided on items and luckily the third time was the charm and we were able to select items that were in stock. When the food arrived, the burger my husband had ordered medium- arrived charred and black on the outside, and incredibly overcooked. He then mentioned it to the waitress who then sent the manager over. She offered to cook some sliders for him to replace the burger; however, when we had been trying to order burgers, our waitress had not informed us that we could have gotten sliders. Sliders were brought out to replace the burned burger; however, they were hardly an improvement. Extremely disappointing as we have had great experiences with the food at Blue Tractor numerous times. Other meals ordered were adequate- but not great. We will give them another try again soon because we live locally- but very disappointing. read more

Very, VERY nice place. As soon as you walk in, you just want to wind down. It's the only place I've ever seen that has such low lighting, but it's very nice, and easy on the eyes. There are some very good options to eat, and being a fan of Mac and Cheese, I almost passed out when I saw a section for it. There was only a few options, and the one I chose was pretty nice. As for kids, it's the basic stuff: Chicken, Fish, etcetera, but it'll be enough for them to eat. Overall, nice place, but the options are a tad lacking. Delicious food and a fun atmosphere. My wife and I head to Traverse City a couple of times a year and we usually make a point to hit up the Blue Tractor. We have had great service and food on the times we have gone, which are generally early on Friday or midday Saturday. Our party of 2 has never had to wait long and the service has always been prompt and friendly. I always start with the Fried Dill Pickles, which are done right to avoid sogginess, they are never over breaded, and the dip is the right amount of flavor to compliment, but not dominate the pickle flavor. My wife opts for the mac and cheese most of the time, and I generally get a burger (as we go earlier in the day, and a burger is a great way for me to judge the quality of a restaurant's food). I'm a fan of their burgers as they are loosely packed and very juicy. They Cuban and Hay-Baler are highly recommended and quite messy. I have not explored the dinner side of their menu, but the burgers,sides, and appetizers have always been great for us. read more

It was MSU game night and every place was packed mostly because they were all bars that we were trying to get into. We gave this place a try since it has good reviews. We got there and had no wait at all which was nice. The game was on as well (they have a few tv's) We started with the spinach artichoke dip, very tasty. Then for my meal I ordered the ruben however I am picky and hate thousand island dressing. I love it with horseradish sauce. They have the most powerful horseradish ever! No mayo mixed in which can ruin the taste. My sandwich was perfect and spicy. I got a side of pulled pork mac n cheese as well. Amazing pulled port was tender and the BBQ sauce had a nice kick. Yum yum yum!!! Everything was sooo good! Our party ordered the tractor sticks as an appetizer and they were pizzeria quality amazing. I had a combo plate with brisket, chicken and fries. The fries were great as well and you could tell they were made in house. One member of our party said her side of corn on the cob was the best and sweetest she's had in forever. We came here during National Cherry Festival, while the car show was going on just outside. We snuck in from the back and were surprised to get a comfortable booth during a time when we thought for sure there would be a wait. I wasn't sure what to expect, everyplace in TC is new to me. The Blue Tractor makes a good first impression. Cool and funky feel. The menu was homey and comfortable with some "upwardly mobile" and more hip choices. We tried three selections from the lunch menu, the sliders, Mac and Cheese and a burger. The sliders were good, though it was disappointing that we couldn't mix and match, sorry, 1 kind only. The Mac and Cheese sounded so good. Three cheeses and bread crumbs. Unfortunately it's promise out-weighed what was delivered. It was okay, but not that spectacular. I visited the Blue Tractor Barbecue Restaurant today and was BLOWN AWAY by the delicious food and stellar service. I'm not a barbecue person but tried this yummy Roasted Vegetable Salad with Grilles Chicken. Y'all, my meal was so good. The chicken was tender and savory and the roasted veggies were very tasty and added a really nice texture and flavor to my salad. We were up in Traverse City for the weekend and I've been wanting to try this place out for some time. So we stopped by for lunch with some friends. Wife had the caprese pizza/beer combo for $10, I stole the beer. I ordered the two-meat BBQ combo of pulled pork and brisket, with a side of fries and mac n cheese. Pizza was terribly underwhelming, according to the wife, so she ate all of my fries which were delicious. The pulled pork was tender and smokey. The brisket was cooked to perfection with that beautiful smoke ring telling you it was made right. Their house BBQ sauce was a nice accompaniment. The mac n cheese was pretty good, not mind-blowing like I've been told, but it was better than anything I could probably cook. It's not extra cheesy and not burned to hell either. Pretty fair value for the money I'd say. Kinda sad they don't have more Michigan beers on tap though. read more

Had dinner here for my 21st birthday and the service was great despite it being a super busy Friday evening. The waitress was super excited and was helpful in helping me pick a drink (I chose the Old Town Lemonade and it was delicious!) and the food was amazing, as always. Their pulled pork is smoky and pairs perfectly with the bbq sauce, and their pizzas are perfectly balanced between cheese, sauce, and topping. Review does not include food: I love dropping in to the Blue Tractor for a beer when I go out. The place is usually pretty quiet which is just how I like it. They have a small section of seating with leather couches and arm chairs (mmm comfortable seating). The seating is much more conducive to a group of friends than bellying up to TC's average bar. They also have relatively good drink specials. Whatever day we went in they had $5 Bells Oberon boots... yeah. Happiness in a shoe, now I know how my wife feels. I'll have to go back and eat here (I believe I have in the past) to give a full review, but know that this is a great place for try on a friday/saturday if you don't want to get mauled by tourists if you decide to have a drink downtown TC. read more

One of my favorite places. Amazing atmosphere. They no longer offer the tractor melt sandwich which was my favorite item on their menu. The rest of the menu is great, however. Some dishes you don't get a whole lot of food, it depends on the day if you will get a good helping or enough food to tease you. Alcoholic beverages are pretty pricy. Order a side of Mac and cheese (smoked sausage and jalapeño) we love spicy so best Mac and cheese for a BBQ joint. Lots of choices for Mac and cheese. Oh yeah, ordered a side of onion rings, they were not the ordinary rings, these were thick and delicious (2 rings per batter nice fluffy batter). This a place I recommend in historic downtown TC!! We used to love coming to this place and were exited every time we came to TC but this experience was different and we will not be coming back. As soon as we came in the hostess gave us a very tall bar height table. My mom injured her legs a few years ago and it hurts to have them dangling. When we asked for another table she said there were none but we could clearly see at least two were available and remained available four our entire meal. To add to this two of the chairs were so wobbly and felt like they were about to break off the legs. When we asked for a different chair the waitress said very sarcastically "Yeah...I guess" and then rolled her eyes. Also, we had to wait at least ten minutes and asking three times after getting our drinks to get straws and we only got them when we had to walk over to the bar and ask for them! Went in a group of 9 on a Saturday. We had a short wait. Our waitress was helpful and very friendly. Everyone was happy with their food. I ordered the little squealer and the pork belly slider. Both were good and the BBQ sauce was served on the side, which I appreciated. I also ordered a side of Mac and cheese that was just ok. Fish and Chips -- fish good, fries have slightly atypical seasonal that is not so appealing. Nice Bloody Mary Fried Chicken offerings (two different plates in our party) were most unremarkable despite somewhat pricey cost for the quality. Tenders a bIt dry. Went to the Tractor again last night and had a great experience. We had a party of eight; not a huge table but larger than normal. There was no drop off in quality of service or food as often happens with larger tables. We arrived at 7:00 on a Friday night and they were busy yet we only waited 20 minutes or so. 20 minutes to take a shot and start on a round of beers at the bar. When seated, our server was friendly and efficient. We ordered another round of drinks with our dinner order, and the bartender actually brought them over to us because the server was busy. Very nice touch. The food was great, appetizers were simply prepared and great for sharing. Most importantly they were quick. The table ran the gamut in ordering very different choices from all over the menu and everything was very tasty. To-go boxes after, check dropped off, bill paid, life is good. This is a place that knows its identity and delivers time after time. Good, homey food, reasonable prices, and a very casual, comfortable atmosphere. For my money, you might find somewhere better. We stopped in for dinner yesterday and we are very glad we chose Blue Tractor. Our server, Cnote, was friendly and funny. We ordered the chipotle chicken bowl, the corn chicken chowder, the pulled pork quesadilla, the burrito and the smoked chicken. Everything was awesome!! The soup was hearty and flavorful. The burrito, quesadilla and chipotle bowl used the smoked meat with a twist on the usual Mexican ingredients to complement them. The smoked chicken had a great smoky taste. Dessert sounded good, but we were too full and had to pass on that. read more
