First thing I noticed was the sticky menu that desperately needed to be wiped down. Second thing I noticed was food on my 'clean' silverware. So first impression, not great. The food is never really good but they have a Monday special ($2.95 burgers) that we like so last Monday we went with a couple friends and ordered 4 burgers, 2 salads, and 4 waters. The waiter had to ask us about 3 times to have us explain the order to him... Odd. After we gave him the order we didn't see him for another 7ish minutes and we didn't see our waters either. He came back and explained that he was chatting with someone at the bar and forgot. We got the food all at the same time which was kind of a bummer since the side salads came out with the burgers. Side note on the salad: I ordered a side bleu cheese and a side of their cracked black pepper balsamic vingerette. He brought me ranch. He then went to get me the right dressings which I told him again what they were. He came back with oil and vineger. It took everything in me not to laugh out loud and then he came back again with "bleu cheese" which was actually chipotle ranch. My boyfriend finally went downstairs to the bar to get me the right dressing. We never saw him after the dressing incident and we had six empty plates and everyone had emtpy waters. We finally asked someone else for our bills and when he came back by we tried to pay and he just sailed right past. We eventually went to the bar to pay. The entire time there were only three tables and it was easily the worst service I have ever had and if it hadn't been so frustrating I would have been laughing the whole time at how awful everything was. read more

Yes, we were there during the Cherry Festival, so there was a wait. However, it turned out to be much longer than they had estimated. Plus, we thought it would be worth it and didn't mind an hour (PLUS) wait. Unfortunately, the food was pretty average and the service was lacking. The Mac and Cheese gets great reviews, and while I enjoyed the dish, the Mac and Cheese itself is really very bland. The ONLY thing that saved the dish from being boring was the pulled pork with BBQ sauce. My husband had the meat trio plate, the ribs were average, the brisket was dry, and again, the pulled pork saved the dish. Other dishes tried were the fried chicken sandwich, the sliders, fried pickles, and tractor sticks. These were all good, but again, very average dishes we could get just about anywhere. So, if you find yourself at the Blue Tractor, stick to the pulled pork. I'm not typically a fan of pulled pork, but it really was good and definitely saved the day! read more

Went to the rear patio area tonight they call THE SHED Three in our party were served then the group of about eight that ordered after us were served. More than 20 minute wait other 3 had finished their food anyway. so I decide to check on our order only to find they completely lost it! No offer from Them for any compensation except for us to wait longer for our food. REALLY!!! I was still polite. When they credited my card they made sure I was aware that Michigan law required that I still pay for my wife's wine and my beer. No genuine remorse that we wanted 40 minutes at this establishment that we entered already hungry! Lori was the person we dealt with according to bartender that messed up the order. As a local who has eaten here several times I encourage you to not waste your money. They are already overpriced but to now be providing such poor service! My husband ordered a Tbone steak and apparently the kitchen ran out so they took it upon themselves to just bring him a flank steak. The waiter never came out to ask if he wanted the flank steak or if he wanted something else. We asked for a second chocolate milk and never recieved it. The brisket was hard and did not have good. portabella mushroom "burger" - delicious!!! glass of local wine - yes, please. several varieties of mac and cheese to choose from - amaaaazing. it has been awhile since i've found a portabella mushroom "burger" with a mushroom cap substantial enough to not require a meat burger with it. this made me quite happy. i had the lump crab, bacon, and swiss mac & cheese which was pretty good (although the flavors weren't really blended), but my friend's ham and smoked gouda mac & cheese was really good. i would definitely go back....and try the blue cheese mac! read more

This place is awesome. The atmosphere is really fun, with lots of tractor "stuff". Great food, excellent portions and reasonable prices (for a tourist town). For an appetizer, we had the "Tractor Twists" which was their tale on stuffed cheesy bread. You get 4 giant hunks of stuffed pizza crust with marinara. I had "The Hay Baler" which is a burger with homemade BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese and crispy onions. The meat was great quality and the homemade BBQ sauce was terrific. My kids had the hand breaded chicken strips and they were a huge leap over most kids' menu fare. High quality chicken that is really hand breaded. read more

Being a local, I'm not too sure why I keep going back to this place, probably because I love the Lobdell Family, but I keep getting disappointed. The Mac & Cheese is way overrated! The serve is horrible. It seems to always take forever to get drink orders, orders are never correct, and servers are not attentive at all. I had the Cali Coast Burger one time and keep going back just for that meal because it was delicious!! Sadly though, the last two times it was disappointing and tonight, with our take out order, they completely forgot the avocado salsa on the burger, which is the best part! Came here on a recommendation and loved it. Nice decor, party of 12 with kids. Excellent service. Ordered the tractor rolls which were a delicious guilty pleasure. Also ordered the half rack which was outstanding, and more than I could finish. Truly large amounts of meat per rib. And I have done the KC BBQ tour two years ago, so I know something about ribs. This was the comfort food I always think I remember from growing up, but actually never ate. We were here on a busy Sunday night and sat in the bar. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich and really liked it. I tried the chicken chowder, which was so good I am actually craving it three days later! For the last few years, when we came up north to visit our daughter, a must was to visit the blue tractor. Not any more. Went in last evening for dinner, five of us. To start, they no longer have the wonderful bread and butter pickles, and they were out of pork rinds, our favorite. On a Friday night! We were told by the waitress that they have a new chef when we complained. Then we got our dinner, which we all ordered our long time favorite. Absolutely everything was terrible, right down to the cole slaw, with no sauce. I am sure we won't go back, unless we hear they have improved. So sad! We loved their Mac and cheese. We dined at Blue Tractor at the recommendation of one of the someliers at a winery we visited in Traverse City. We got there late-ish on a Tuesday night and had almost the entire roof deck to ourselves (and found out after it was one of the only, if not the only, roof deck in Traverse City). The service was excellent; our server even advised that beers were cheaper downstairs and we could visit the bar and bring them up. I had a tuna melt and the mac and cheese (one of Blue Tractor's specialties). The tuna melt was okay (crunchy bread, not overly tuna-y) and the mac and cheese, which was white cheddar, was good comfort food. Family vacation in Traverse City, looking for a good place for dinner. Reviews were good, and it looked like a cool place to eat. We came in late afternoon, by no means rush time with a party of six. Walking from the back of the restaurant to the front, the place was a ghost town, plenty of empty tables. They said there would be a ten minute wait, so we waited, and a few minutes later they took us back to a six seat high top table. We explained that members of our party couldn't sit at a high table, could they put us somewhere else. They said no. There were multiple empty tables, one large enough for our party that they said was reserved, so we asked about pushing two tables together and they said no; no explanation, just refused. They said we could continue to wait but we just left, and went to another restaurant that could handle six people at once. read more

My son and I are trying all the BBQ places in TC, specifically the ribs. Their ribs were fantastic-falling off the bone, delicious sauce, moist meat. The sauce was a tad spicy for me, but I am a zero heat kinda girl. We also tried their fried pickles and fried green beans. The beans were yummy. Others at the table tried the Cuban, a bowl of Chowder (freakin' amazing!!), Pork Mac & Cheese (delicious), and both kinds of fries were tasty too. My husband and I ate here on Sunday evening we decided to try it since we've heard only good things! I am VERY picky when it comes to Mac and cheese and really watch what I eat ...so when I go all out I want it to be fantastic! We asked our waiter what we just MUST order .. I've been here three times now. The first time I went we had quick, great service and the food was delicious! The second time I went back, I brought my boyfriend and I was really excited to have him try it out. We waited 20 minutes for someone to acknowledge us at the door. It looked like there was no hostess and waiters would pass us and not say anything and the place was dead. Finally the manager sat us own. The services was SO slow... the manager did half the work. But the food was still great and we had a decent time. I tried one of the Mac and Cheeses and my boyfriend had a burger. The third time I went, I brought my parents. Again it took forever to be seated, but this time it was because they were more busy. We waited a long time for a waitress to take our order, bring our drinks and about an hour for the food to come. The chowder soup is amazing as always. I got the Mac and Cheese again but this time with the pulled pork. The piece of pork was a solid piece of fat and goo. My mom was curious to try the Blue cheese mac and cheese and she ask if there was any way we could have a small sample- the waitress said 'no' and walked away... without explaining they make it fresh every time. Service was slower then anything, food was bad, our waitress was rude and the bill for 3 people was $60 for 3 meals, soup, and cokes! I will probably give it one more chance... hopefully I can bring the 2 stars up. read more

You will want to storm out if you have more than 10 people don't bother here. Good barbecue place, the servers did their best. The managers made a huge logistical failure with our large reservation nearly a month in advance. Incompetent management drive this place into a hole that is hard to recover from. In my opinion, I think their food has gone downhill. I had the turkey dinner with mashed potatoes, green beans, stuffing and of course turkey. The stuffing was so over salted, I could not eat it. I'd like to post a review contrary to most. Food was underwhelming, i found a hair in my salad and almost yakked right on the table. The worst part though was that one of my friends who is of age was denied alcohol claiming he had a fraudulent I.D. He is obviously of age and had a legitimate enhanced Michigan state drivers license. They claimed that the enhanced license (which allows for crossing over the border to Canada) was fake, and they couldn't "risk" their jobs to give this man a drink. You are a restaurant in Michigan and have never seen an enhanced license? At first we thought it was a joke. We encouraged them to call the police, but the manager responded saying "Why don't you call the police". Some customer service that is. Absolutely ridiculous, considering at the table next to us a 12 year old looking girl was casually enjoying a martini. Ruined our evening and put a damper on the rest of our trip to Traverse City which otherwise was outstanding. Can honestly say I will never be returning and spreading the word about this terrible establishment. read more
