Never again. I will usually give a place two chances before I write them off, especially a place that offers healthier food in an area with few options, but not this place. Seating options aren't good. The huge picnic table and tiny table next to it aren't all that functional and they're sacrificing seating for a gimmick, not that they could keep up with it anyway. It was an issue. There were people waiting for seats at lunch on Saturday because they only offer six functional 4 person tables in a huge space occupied by a large picnic table. We ordered a burger, pork sandwich, side of slaw, and a piece of carrot cake and a coffee. Total was 42.00 after a pre paid tip of fifteen percent that I would love to have refunded. It took over a half an hour to get our food during which time I asked for the coffee three times. I was there a total of a hour and never received it. As I went to leave I said "don't worry about the coffee" and all I received in response was an "ok". The burger was two dry meat patties on a bun with lettuce on the side and some tasty mayo. For thirteen dollars. The potatoes are good. If you order then separate. They're five dollars, but they're good. The death by pork sandwich was nothing at all to write home about. Dry and simple. Reading the menu was the highlight of the meal. They told me at forty five minutes in that the coffee took a while to make because it was hand pressed. After the hour mark the two counter girls were visiting and no one had bothered after me asking three times. Little did I know how that was not true at all. Life has been dismal here in MD, food and wine-wise. I'm definitely running back to my City, soon, but not this minute. Please bear with me, this is actually a Yelp review. So, a few days ago, I decided to check out ye old leaf-changing phenomenon on the Skyline Drive of Shenandoah Nat. Park. Gorgeous, amazing....definitely something we don't really have at this level in the SF Bay Area. It was a long day, starting from Rockville at 6:30. By 4:30, I was ready to head back to the barn. While approaching Front Royal, VA, I needed fuel and checked out Yelp and saw this quirky-named restaurant. Yah, there was another fast-food joint with over twice as many reviews, with the same rating, but I kinda wanted something better, something interesting, not just GIGO (garbage-in/garbage-out). I saw Blue Wing Frog...hmmmm. I debated and debated. I saw a few others, none stood out. Oh, and let me say, Front Royal is one dead burg on a Sunday evening! I made a decision......dead-ahead on Chester St was BWF. My life will never be the same, but that, I will leave for another day....episode 2. Episode 2. Once in a million years you come upon some tiny little place where time/space and all the horrible things in the world don't find that evil nexus, but instead, proffers an envelope of deliciousness and goodness that is part of the genetic makeup of a few people. Robert, his wife, and the staff of BWF are in that "zone". From the outside, most people would probably make sure to not hit the brakes, but the accelerator away from this non-descript former whatever building that looks like it would be better suited as a savings/loan or Elks Club (do they have those out here?). Instead, Robert busts open the paradigm and welcomes you in, smiling and engaging as all get-out! He helped the couple in front of me navigate the menu in a way I'd never seen. Anything goes! Try this! NO, try that! Whoa! This is outrageous! Heck, try 'em both! Set a spell! No stuffiness, no pretentiousness or false engagement. BWF is the real thing, and Robert is the pulsing heart and soul behind what is missing in EVERY SINGLE PLACE I've been to in Maryland. He totally takes care of you, brings you smiles along with your drinks. Make a boo-boo? No problemo! It's all goooooood! The staff is so busy, his wife is amazing and is obviously the genius (no offense Robert) and the nerve center behind it all. Episode 3. The food. I got so excited when Robert walked me through the menu! The good angel on one shoulder whispered one thing, while the other one tempted me in the other direction! I really wanted salmon, but I really wanted Death by Pork! Robert's retort: "Do both!" Why the h___ not! Git 'er dun. Yah! That's what I'm talking about when it comes to customer service! Definitely never ever seen this W of the Rockies! I couldn't resist the warm cider....mulled to sweet goodness. A wonderful selection of local brews and even local-ish wines were there too! But I had miles to go before I slept and didn't want to crash! So, no ETOH for me, and my cider didn't disappoint. I also had some delicious coffee after dinner too, from some sort of wack-a-doodle contraption that made great coffee! So, I had a Franken-dinner of Death by Pork/Salmon....the veggie sautee was absolutely delicious....not cooked into anything but a nice taut combination of what I could tell, fresh veggies accompanied by a yummo pilaf of brown rice. The salmon was absolutely perfect, nice and firm, not underdone at all, and with some delicious spicy coat that literally jumped into my consciousness and wrestled it to the ground! Now, the Death by Pork, this was a completely gastronomic orgasmic experience. Wow! Decadence is embodied by this dish, a tenderloin/bacon combo that only Chris Farley/John Goodman could have captured in their parody of the crazy Chicago Bull fans on SNL! You wonder if they should serve Plavix on the side! Oh, but such sweet experience this dish is, and I really try to curtail my meat consumption, but this dish makes it work it. So tender, so tasty, so moist! OMG! There were also some 'tater-tot like things that were so delicious too, in addition to the veggies and some yummy sweet onions. Summary: You must go here! Not a very pleasant experience. We arrived on time at 11am but we were asked to wait for another 5 mins. Then the counter people took another 3min to find the menu they can write on. The it took 30+ mins for the food to come. However, we are the first group that came!! The worst part is the food is so average. We ordered a medium done their so called the best burger in house but it is so dry and it has no taste! Even Burger King has better burger than them. So bad! Not sure how other people hove such fantastic experience but really not recommended! The young servers are nice and that's the only good part about our experience. read more

I was walking my dogs and happened by this unassuming place. The menu in the window had my interest. They make all the food and bread from scratch. They change the menu every day. with som pretty great choices I couldn't decide so decided to sample the hummus with fresh made pita, butternut squash and parsnip soup and an amazing asparagus salad. Every bit was delicious and so fresh tasting! Their menu is not all vegetarian but if thats your thing they offer good options. I can not wait to get back and try sone of their turkey and pork dishes. I will say this is not really fast food at all so if you need a quick in and out lunch call ahead and order or wait for a better day to enjoy the yumminess. Worth the little bit of a wait. My wife, daughter, and I got the opportunity to stop Into Blue Wing Frog while traveling home from a weekend away. I can't say how much I loved this place. Not only for the food, but because they are all so inviting. I watched the owner as he interacted with his staff and it's clear that straight from the top everyone matters to him. That goes a long way in making good food and a good experience. I was super impressed and am telling everyone that rolls through Front Royal that this is the number one place I plan to visit every time (even if I'm just close!) Blue Wing Frog was a pleasant surprise. Originally we were looking to have dinner at Yamafuji, but the restaurant was closed. We walked next door to Blue Wing Frog since they were still open. Walk up counter service, and an open cafeteria environment. I ordered the shrimp po boy, she ordered the falafel sandwich, and we both share the gazpacho. I have to say that the shrimp po boy was a huge surprise. Easily one of the best I've had! Served between brioche, the sandwich had a sweet and slightly spicy chipotle sauce and was served with their spicy coleslaw. My dinner date said she loved the falafel. Blue Wing Frog is also the only place that serves falafel in Front Royal. One of my favorite restaurants I've been to in Front Royal. A must visit. read more

It's seem like the lady should not be in the restaurant business. I'm surprised she has survived this long with the lack of service worker etiquette she has. There should never be a time that a stranger speaks to a child and using inappropriate words. You should explain to people that food might take over an hour before seating them. That is service worker etiquette. The people that come in are the people paying your bills and should be treated with respect. Not be treated like they are bothering you or a burden. It's shameful to hear and read multiple experiences where the restaurant could have fixed or avoided the problems but instead blamed the guests or didn't even care. Very unprofessional. It is clear that this lady is not cut out for this business with the lack the empathy she has for any problems that happen in her restaurant. We ate here two days in a row. Yesterday, the Mojo chicken sandwich was well seasoned, fresh and wonderful. Today, the same sandwich was soggy and truly disgusting. I removed the dripping wet bread (so gross) and attempted eating just the chicken. Awesomely cool spot with very fresh food and super nice people. They have a wide range of food to choose from that changes daily and weekly. It's not fast food so don't expect to be in and out. The food quality is up there with delicate and tasty flavors. When we ate there for lunch, we used the huge picnic table that makes grown men look like little boys, very cool. A good spit to eat every week because of different menu items and fresh baked breads and desserts. I ate the shrimp po boy and my wife had the local beef burger. Both were extremely delicious and the sides range from roasted potatoes to spicy coleslaw to hummus with veggie sticks. We stopped by the quaint restaurant on our drive from Washington DC to Lexington, VA. This is a place worth stopping at. Robert, the owner, really makes this place an experience! He is so friendly and enthusiastic about his restaurant and the menu options. They make their own breads, sauces, and cookies, all of which are delicious. They even make their own ketchup. I tried the death by pork and the chicken salad salad, both of which were super tasty and made with love. Don't forget to add on a smoothie. You can tell that all of the ingredients they use are super fresh. They grow their own herbs right in front of the restaurant. read more

Amazing! My favorite place I've eaten at in a long time. The atmosphere is fantastic - and the theme here is EVERYTHING is home made. The owners even made the tables including the huge oversize table we are sitting at in the picture himself. Homemade bread, homemade ketchup, homemade food - all of it. In an unassuming location but fun. Great local beer selection. Kids had homemade peanut butter on homemade bread sandwich with fruit and grilled cheese. We had crispy garlic taters (crispy red potatoes), hummus plate, 12 shrimp PO-boy at owner's suggestion, veggies and rice entree, veggie sandwich, 4 beers, root beer and cookies for less than $100 for 5 of us. I came in here for lunch, looking for vegetarian options. The menu is not very reader friendly. It doesn't look like a menu. The ambiance is kinda murky. Not very bright. Different types of seating is Ava and that is awesome. Silverware is the cheapest you can find and the cloth napkins, though a nice idea had seen much better times. Holes and fringes is not ideal if you pay $$ for a veggie wrap. The food itself was rather tasteless and kind of bland. There was no tomato in the "tomato, avocado, hummus" wrap. Ordered side of garlic taters tasted like old potatoes. And the vegan Tzatziki - had Cumin ?? in it ???! Orzo salad was tasteless as well. This could be such a wonderful place to visit. There's seating outside which is great. They had a bowl of water outside for four legged friends. Finding this place through an foodie app - exciting. Food not so much . My buddy and I were famished after an early morning ride on our motorcycles through Shenandoah Park. We Yelped for a place to get lunch, saw the great reviews for this place, and decided to check it out. We were lucky to eat here while the owner happened to be in, and he suggested Death by Pork as something that we should try. Both of us had the Death by Pork entree, which consisted of ground sausage, apple, and onion wrapped in pork loin, supplemented by sides of freshly grilled vegetables, grilled apple slices, and taters. The dish was decadent, well-balanced, filling, and all-around fantastic. Even the homemade ketchup and mayo/sour cream were to die for. Death by Pork is aptly named - because you feel like you died and went to paradise. Robert, the owner, is the kind of man you'd want to meet when you're travelling - he is passionate about what he does, has great stories to tell, and makes you feel at home when you're miles away from home. This is a what good food should be all about, and this is why this place deserves 5 stars. read more

The motto on the wall of this quirky establishment states that good food should not be fast, easy, cheap or fake. We wholeheartedly agree with the thought and dedication that goes in to creating good, fresh food. However, waiting 1 hour and 10 minutes for our food is beyond any level of acceptable standards for a restaurant. We watched two tables that came in 30 minutes after us get served first. We were literally getting up to leave without eating when our food finally came to the table. On Tuesday, June 28th, we hit Front Royal en route to the Skyline Drive, and we were lucky enough to discover this gem of an establishment. Despite the fact that we looked like a couple of road-weary, hot & dusty bikers, we were nevertheless welcomed warmly and sincerely by the owners. We learned that everything is made as it is ordered; a rare treat in the restaurant industry. The food is so fresh that as we were dining, a local farmer arrived with a big box of vegetables for the kitchen. The grilled veggie salad was the best salad I've had in years, and the nitrate-free bacon on hubby's BLT... beyond fabulous! We wish we didn't live so far away (about 100 miles), but we'll be back!! What an awesome restaurant! First off the Owner Robert made me feel like family! He started off with some casual conversation and basically made it seem like we were the only ones at his restaurant! I than saw him walk around the restaurant and make all of his customers feel at home! Next, the menu was pretty well thought out with everything fresh and I ordered the burger and it was 100% perfectly cooked and the cut potatoes was beyond delicious. After we completed our meal Robert enticed me into carrot cake and while I didn't eat any of it at the restaurant I did enjoy it at home and it was totally yummy! My friend had the death by pork, she liked it. The service was a little slow. Looks popular which accounted for the delay. Place was clean. They have free Wif. Nice options for beverages, everything from root beer, wine, coffee, beers and teas. Again only 2 stars for lack of vegetarian options and what they did have the veggie sandwich was edible. They sauteed the veggies but it lacked flavor. They stuffed the veggies in a big chunck of foccacia bread so porportion was off. There was a good lemon flavored hummus inside that offered flavor overall. The potatoes that came w death by pork meal were delecious. That would have been nice in the sandwich. Don't be in a hurry or else you'll have to get it to go. The manager inquired about my review and my comment about lack of veggie options, then mentioned the varierty of sides & other options. Some wete not available when i was there but they seem to care about people's feedback which is awesome and told me I should have said something and they would have tried to fix it. I appreciate them saying that and I might give them another shot. Usually when I write a review saying the food was tasteless I'll get a reply saying I was wrong but instead this place just asked for a chance to try again. Wow, that rarely happens! Okay folks, it's like this ... lovely people providing excellent food. We recently spent some time in the Shenandoah valley and happened into Front Royal. Consulting yelp for a good, affordable eatery, we landed at BWF. In short ... the Skrimps are exquisite, the chicken sandwich delightful (on an expertly home-baked roll, no less), my better half said that she'd found her One True Dish (the peanut butter sandwich), and the cookies scrumptious (the ginger snaps in particular are, IMHO, to die for). And the host even brought out some stewed chicken (they'd been making chicken stock) for our hound. Not the 'cheapest' meal, but not at all spendy, and absolutely worth every shekel. Came here on a whim with my boyfriend because we were in town. Owner greeted us at the door and was super welcoming and nice. We ordered the tempeh appetizer, burger, and shrimp po' boy. SO good! Burger is made from grass fed beef. The restaurant uses mostly local ingredients and in house makes almost all their sauces and breads. Owners are so nice and friendly, make you feel at home right away. Try their cookies for dessert! I would seriously give them a 10/5 stars if I could. read more
