I just got my first Brazilian wax and I loved it! Jessica was AMAZING! She mad me feel so comfortable and was very easy to talk to. The room was very clean, and she never double dipped. Why I couldn't give the place 5 stars is because the service in the front of the store is not up to par. They do not pay very well attention to there customers, and act like they have better things to do than their jobs. One word: Joy. She is awesome. If you are looking for a certain type of product that will work right for your skin, aesthetic and lifestyle; or want to buy a new color; or even just want someone to show you how to apply makeup, Joy is your girl. Joy is super knowledgeable not just about which products work on which people, but also which colors will get which results, and she's so skilled at the actual application (which is key to your makeup looking good!) and showing me how to recreate the look. she was great too at listening to what i wanted -- even tho i wasn't great at articulating it -- and trying a few things til we found a look i LOVE. word to the wise: if you're going to book a make-up consult appt w/ one of the BM sales reps, just make sure you know the deal ahead of time, some people have posted angry reviews about that. it seems like it varies by store whether it's $45 or $75 or 'gets waived if you buy at least 3 products'. regardless it'd be worth some $ for you to see Joy, she really is a pro and i'm so happy w/ my new look. i'll definitely be going back to her next time i want to switch things up or add a product. read more

Wonderful products, but AWFUL customer service at Clarendon location. They'll greet you, but don't expect amiable, receptive service. If I'm spending $34 for a high-end small conditioner, plus other items I expect a lot more from the associates. I have been a loyal customer for well over ten years, but mostly frequent the location in Dupont Circle. At the Dupont Circle location they aren't short on smiles or making you feel like a valued customer, plus they're always generous with samples. Not the case at this location. Ugh. read more

Go to Sarah for a bikini wax. Shes fast, good, and its almost painless. Often I find that "reasonably" priced waxing places use cheap wax that REAALLLYY hurts when its ripped off. I would DREAD going to get my wax, a necessary evil. Then this place opened, I tried it out, and now its just another appointment to me, no dread, no shaking on the table, no bracing before each strip is pulled off, etc. This is now my PLACE to get my waxing done, and I'm looking forward to trying out a facial as well. read more

I've been to the Clarendon Bluemercury store several times over the last few weeks. My first experience was great! I got to try several face products and bought a few. But in my three subsequent trips, I've wasted about $100.00 because of the incompetence of the staff. I went back the same day I tried the face products and decided I wanted the lune & aster lip gloss as well. The same beauty expert helped me out and showed me the one she had used on me. I told her that wasn't the same one. It was noticeably darker. But she assured me it was. She rushed me into buying it and didn't let me try it out in-store. As soon as I got home and tried it on, I knew I had been right and the "beauty expert" had been wrong. After trying out the other samples for about a week, I decided to buy the Perfect Cleanse. One of the ladies offered to grab it for me, popped it in the bag, and charged me. When I got home to use it, I realized it smelled a lot different than what I had been using. My skin is EXTREMELY sensitive to fragrance. I realized the lady had sold me the POWER Cleanse. NOT what I had asked for. Then I went in this past Friday after trying lune & aster BB cream for a couple weeks. My skin responded well so I decided to buy the full size. I explicitly told them what I wanted. The "beauty experts" again rushed me into buying the cream. The lady popped it into a bag and charged me. Once I got home, I realized it was the CC cream. But again second guessed myself thinking maybe the CC cream was correct. It was not. It smelled different and made my skin oily. Again, my skin is EXTREMELY sensitive so it does not respond well to changes. So now I'm stuck with $100 worth of products that my skin hates. I don't think I can ever go back to a Bluemercury store again. I realize that humans make mistakes, but three times is a bit ridiculous when they're supposed to be "beauty experts." That's $100 I'll never get back and beautiful skin I may never see. At least not until I find a new beauty carrier. read more

Blue Mercury is a great place. The staff is friendly and welcoming. I don't know much much about the make-up services, but I do know about the spa services. Jessica is one of the estheticians (or maybe the only one?) Well...that's here nor there because Jessica is the best! I've been Jessica's client for almost 3 yrs. ( I followed her to Blue Mercury from two other spas). I stayed with her because she is friendly, courteous, and she does a really good Brazilian wax. I've told all of my girlfriends about her. The price of the Brazilian wax is the best in the area for the job she does. Trust me Brazilian wax services can get pricy. The location of the spa is great too. It's near shops and restaurants. I'll start by saying I had to take some time and let the fuming dissipate. I had an appointment to get my makeup done (nothing crazy or fancy but I hinted at a 30's look - some contouring, some shadows). I won't give names but my make-up *artist* (?) pulled back her greasy hair into a pony tail and proceeded to apply foundation on my skin, using her fingers. OMG - I was shocked and terrified!!!!!! NO HAND WASHING?!?! I couldn't believe her hair grease was getting transferred onto my skin. APPALLING!!!!!!!! but I had to keep my composure. Next, there was no barrier applied, even though I have acne-prone/sensitive skin that tends to break-out if I mess with it or don't clean and protect it properly. Nothing but dirt, bacteria, hair grease and foundation.. I was crying and fuming on the inside. Next, she started applying eye shadow, then liner, then lipstick, and the entire time, I felt like I was there to give her instructions on how to do her job - just odd.. I had no clue and neither did she. In any case, I'll keep this short - when I got out of my chair and looked into the mirror, I couldn't believe the horrendous make-up *job*. I literally looked like I was a clown and the eyeliner was so uneven, I had mascara smudged all over on the lower part of my lid... When the rest of the girls in the store saw me, they could hardly contain their laughter.. how odd!!! What kind of a business is this, I wondered? I really started thinking that the *artist* had to have been high or drunk! I mean nobody in this world would have let anyone walk out the door with that kind of a face on. I was embarrassed to even walk out to my car because people might have thought I was a homeless runaway hot mess... just hideous.. I couldn't wait to get home and take that face-mask off. Fast forward one week - I had to desperately find the best (read: most expensive) spa to take me in and try to correct the mess that resulted - the worst breakout of my life!!!!!!!! I had to dish out $230 for a facial treatment the clown-makeup resulted in. I'm disgusted still by Bluemercurry and now about $350 poorer because of one of this business's employee that had no basic ethics... The worst experience of my life in a beauty parlor. I've never had issues with this Bluemercury until the past few months. I always go in and know exactly what I need, but am still greeted and treated nicely by associates. A few months ago I went in to ask for some recommendations on an acne spot treatment. Instead, I was berated by a tall middle aged white female sales associate. She refused to offer any suggestions on a spot treatment, but had no issues with adamantly criticizing my choice in face wash. I was brought over to the M61 products where she scolded me on using a harsh face wash (Dermalogica...) and said I needed to buy a new kind. After I kept stating that it was occasional hormonal acne, she still neglected to suggest other products or even listen to what I was saying. I left without purchasing anything. A couple of weeks ago, I went in and asked if there were any holiday gifts with purchase for M61 or Dermalogica since I was purchasing a product from each line. She aggressively came from across the room to rudely say with her nose up in the air that the M61 gift was "Marla's holiday party." She was extremely rude and condescending in all of my interactions with her. I've been using the Dermalogica skincare line for 10+ years and have been a customer of Bluemercury since 2007, but I have started purchasing Murad at Sephora just to avoid interacting with this woman. I prefer purchasing skincare products in person rather than online. Bluemercury is easy to stop into on my way home from work, but if I see that associate through the window I avoid entering. I worked in retail and am understanding of bad days people have, but she refused to even listen to the customer and make a simple sale on an acne spot treatment. read more

They also increased the price to $30 which is very expensive for an eyebrow waxing. Especially for a bad one! When I told the receptionist that too much was taken off, she told me I should have spoke up. There was no way to know until after so no way of speaking up. I will not be going back. read more

Be careful before you shop here as returns are only for store credit even with a receipt within a few days of purchase. I was looking for a new skincare routine and dropped nearly $250 here. My skin looked awesome for 2 days before it broke out HORRIBLY!!!! Now I'm out all that money and wished I went across the street to Sephora where the sales associates are helpful (not rude like BM) and you can return something if it doesn't work out. If you must buy from do so from bluemercury.com or via Amazon (they sell their products) so you can get your credit card credited. I will never shop here again which is a shame since I spend quite a bit on beauty products and live in the neighborhood. They should really rethink this policy as I'm sure they're losing customers. read more

I don't even know where to start. They didn't have the products they claimed to have when I called. Their facial is a joke. It's just a face cleaning and randomness that does nothing for your skin. So your paying over 100.00 for a face cleaning you can do at home. They DO NOT STEAM! So imagine the esthetician extracting your skin with her hard little fingers while your skin is bone dry!! It hurt so bad I had to tell her to stop. I was red all over my face because of it. The room is dirty and gross. The sheet had brown spots which she saw and still asked me to lie on it. I told her I wouldn't because it's dirty then she said "hmmm I think those are just stains but it's clean" then as I was leaving one of the girls was literally staring down my back as I was browsing the products while waiting on my ride. I finally got through today but the person who answered WOULDN'T ALLOW me to make an appointment!!! He said that he would have to call me back! I offered to call back later as I was on a lunch break and wouldn't be available at their convenience. I am shocked that a store would turn away customers.
