I was referred here by my primary vet. My dog had a wrist injury and has downed pasterns. Although she recovered from the wrist injury by the appointment, I wanted the other condition evaluated. Upon making the appointment I was informed of the const of the appointment. :) The vet tech who helped us was wonderful, in fact one of the first times in the month of having Aiko that she did not shy away from a person wanting to let her. Dr. Demianiuk who evaluated Aiko was beyond fantastic. Explained the causes of her condition and treatment plan thoroughly. I appreciated he did not not see the need for X-rays at this time and did want to give any added expenses. :) I cannot attest to anyone else's experience, but mine was fantastic and would not hesitate to have them care for my pet in the future!! First of all, ALL these concerns were communicated to the Appleton clinic before my writing of this review. Maybe because I was pleasant and not screaming, I didn't get any answers. Therefore, here we go: DERMATOLOGY EXAM: took less than 3 minutes (I was texting with my daughter when they took and brought our dog back so was looking at the time) and standard handouts you can find on Google were given at discharge. Total waste of money. (I did get a response from the Vet Tech mind you, NOT the Office Manager who should know more about billing...The Vet Tech said almost all exams are short). Less than 3 minutes from the time she left the room and was brought back. Hmmm. DIAGNOSTIC WORKUP is done but then you never get a diagnosis. Our dog had a chest x-ray and we were told there is "something on there" but never told what it was even though a radiologist supposedly reviewed it. No diagnosis so no treatment plan. Also, she had a laparoscopic liver biopsy that showed something very rare "pyogranulomatous inflammation" likely due to an infection; again, NO TREATMENT PLAN started. Instead, we (thankfully) continued do diagnostic testing, but in the meantime, our dog went downhill and I feel no one was on top of this due to lack of continuity of care. NO EXPLANATION FOR CHARGES ABOVE HIGH ESTIMATE: Our bill came to $3800+ (high end was $3500) but no one could explain WHY. FRONT END STAFF: Are unfriendly and show absolutely no compassion; cannot get past them to express dissatisfaction which is why people have to take to YELP to do complaints...NO ONE there listens or responds (until you write on YELP). (Of note, I did talk with Ashley the day before our dog was put to sleep and she was great...more people need to be like Ashley). NO FOLLOW-UP CARE: Our dog was discharged after a procedure and developed a cough. I called, sent videos, emails. No one was helping. I called to say I was going to bring her back in and was told the ER IS CLOSED!!! (I get that the world is short-staffed, but her cough was a DIRECT result of her care there. Incidentally, when I first accidentally called the ER Clinic in Mosinee to say we were coming, they said they NEVER turn away a dog that needs care). Unlikely tracheitis as she coughed for over 10 seconds and gagged at the end for days and days every time she stood up. Likely kennel cough or the "something on" the chest x-ray that nobody could explain. Finally after 31 hours, the Vet called to put her on antibiotics. There should be a record of all my calls and emails and messages about this. DOCTORS: We had two good doctors at the clinic, in terms of friendliness and knowledge, Dr. Cole and Dr. Ryan. I can't really complain about lack of follow-through because I'm unsure if the messages I sent got to them and they didn't get back to us or if it was the fault of poor communication of front-end staff as to why I wasn't getting results. Teamwork there is lacking. BLUE PEARL is a national chain. If they are stumped on a dog's medical condition, they should confer with their colleagues at other clinics within the system to help get answers. read more

Anywhere but here. Please. Took my dog here for treatment. The moment I walked in the receptionist gave me the wrong paperwork. When I told her I was confused, she rolled her eyes and gave me the correct copy. She said "I hope another person doesn't come in here today" and walked away. The doctor was incredibly rude; claiming my dog was reactive because she was barking. My dog was TERRIFIED to be there and her response to fear (as is many) is to bark. A tech came in later and said "I heard all about her barking from the other techs." I literally hate this place. I was here one other time for stitches and they treated her the exact same way. They are rude to all patients (who they call customers by the way) and I'm going to ensure I find another clinic to send my dogs to if another problem ever comes up. The doctor never came back to give us results- we were handed discharge paper and given a "maybe" diagnosis. 30 seconds of your time for my $800 I just spent? Nope. Blood splatters on the walls, owners waiting 8+ hours for treatment.. what is this place? Why isn't there a better option than this place? All these undereducated individuals claiming to work at places like this because they "love animals so much" but all the reviews clearly show that is NOT the case. During the past two weeks my 8-year old Springer Spaniel has needed care at BluePearl in Appleton. Once for eye surgery and the second time for a serous dog bite. They may do good medical work but the work is mainly for WEALTHY pet owners or people willing to go into DEBT for their cherished pet. Waiting time, even with no one else in the waiting room, was hours. Nobody came out to tell me what was going on until they had a COST ESTIMATE. So very sensitive. And the COST ESTIMATE, DEAR LORD! Easily 3 x what one pays at the regular vet office. This "collective" has taken over in the area. It's not just me but others who say they will NOT ADOPT again for fear of the cost of emergency care at Blue Pearl. Oh and by the way, even when I called to pick up a prescription I was told I'd have to wait SEVERAL hours. MARS PETCARE acquired the clinics because they had a "DREAM of COLLECTIVE CARE." Mmm ... I doubt that dream included cost BREAKS for LOW-INCOME pet owners. By the way, they also own pet food brands like Royal Canin and Pedigree. The Humane Society is filled with surrendered animals because owners ran into expenses they could not control. What a backward system. There is such a BIAS against seniors and low-income folks adopting pets because HOW CAN THEY AFFORD THE VET BILLS? EXACTLY! SO MANY MORE animals could be adopted BY INCREDIBLE PET PARENTS but there is no current system in Wisconsin to help with vet care. So let's keep OVERFILLINGbthe Humane Society instead because that works so well for everyone. RIGHT? read more

My dog had her first litter and we took an unexpected trip to BluePearl after the wait the doctor was very helpful and shared her treatment plan ; however I am posting this to thank the entire team. My dog was brought here bc he wasn't eating or drinking and they took his vitals and said that because his vitals were fine they won't take him because they were at capacity. Had to take him to an emergency vet an hour and a half away who was much better and gave exceptionally better care. My dog is now getting put down today less then 12 hours later. He was not fine. And I'm disgusted at this hospital. Absolutely vile. Horrendous. read more

Currently on hold for over 20 minutes. My dog is clumsily walking around the house and acting irregular. My wife is heading to the ER now. My daughter's dog was scheduled for a cesarean at her vet for Wednesday, went into labor early on Sunday, she took her dog to blue pearl and because she did not have the 5,000-7,000 cash they required they refused her service . Her dog lost all her puppies & suffered in pain all the way until the morning . One of the puppies passed at their hospital and they told my daughter her dog and all the rest of her puppies would die, when denied the care credit she was crying and told them her animals were going to die the tech said it's not my problem. This place didn't even remove her dogs iv . And then they called her in the morning to ask about cremation for her puppy and to tell her about an outstanding bill. This place is ALL ABOUT money, if they cared at all about the life of animals this would not have happened. We are devastated. Her surgery at her vet was 1,000 and they wanted 5-7,000 . No payment options or our dog would not have suffered and continues to suffer over the loss of her 5 puppies. This place is a greedy money hungry place and should be shut down . Awful experience with this pet hospital. Saw an ophthalmologist who was extremely rude and not helpful in the least. Front staff was also very rude . It took over an hour to get bill paid and leave because system was down - I get they couldn't help it but they handled it very poorly . Do not recommend. read more

Blue Pearl is beyond awesome,caring and such a wonderful place to bring your beloved furry loved ones, that so many of us animal lovers call a family member. They were genuinely concerned and comforting to me and my family when we had to say goodbye to our dear Maui (feline) due to old age. I came home from work, and noticed right away Maui looked miserable, I called them around 7pm and spoke to the wonderful receptionist how Maui's health (how she was acting and non ability to walk anymore) was and asked for guidance what would be the best course of action for her, because we already knew that her health was deteriorating we decided to go ahead and let Maui rest peacefully. The receptionist over the phone was very empathetic and was consoling me while explaining to me that we could start the paperwork over the phone and a triage nurse would be waiting for us upon arrival. When we arrived they greeted us and brought us to a room to wait for the Doctor, when the Doctor came in he explained how the process was performed, what could happen to Maui while administrating the the final resting place doses. The Vet Doctor was also genuinely caring and gentle with me and my family during and after the procedure and told us take as much time you need no rush, to say our goodbyes and we were able to stay in the room until we were able to function normally again (lots of crying and emotions filled the room). When it was time to handle payment and forms, again the receptionist was gentle and consoling us and offered to send us a card of Mauis foot prints through the mail, she even stopped and came around from the desk to give a hug in a reassuring gentle manner (just like you would to someone who just lost a beloved family member). Before leaving the building she asked if I was ok to drive and if my boys needed more time to grieve privately if need be. By this time it was 10pm and although the process was quick and performed with such tenderness we had already spent long enough time their grieving and was ready to go home. If you ever have to make the decision to say goodbye to a family pet I highly recommend going here!! Loving your pet is easy, saying goodbye is hard!! read more

I took my dog that had back surgery for IVDD and had strict instructions to crate her NO WALKING A week later she started pooping blood and throwing up so I took her back to blue pearl. After treating her and getting ready to release her back to me the nurse comes out with my dog and says she won't walk. She's having problems walking. Are you kidding me they are the ones that did her surgery and they are trying to get her to walk down the long hall She still had The scar on her back which you can clearly see I don't believe they have competent nurses or staff at blue pearl. read more

BluePearl was super busy when we visited, but they took time to take care of our fur baby. She ended up needing emergency surgery. They offered us options and gave us twice a day calls while she had to recover there. I felt like I was kept up to date and that they truly cared about my dog as if she were their own. read more

This place isn't even worth reviewing - They are terrible. Since they became Blue Pearl the quality of care is horrible, the place is dirty and they really don't give a hoot about your pet. It used to be an emergency pet hospit, but now I don't know what it is. Our little dog injured his back on a weekend and was screaming in pain. We were told they could not seem him unless he was a euthanasia (putting him down) 3 days in a row. Luckily, our vet was able to see him Monday morning. I recommend trying to work with a local vet and avoid this place. This used to be a great animal care hospital, but then they were bought out by a large national corporation. I will never spend another penny there. There are so many things that are wrong with this place, that it would be a long useless rant on my part. read more

I had to let my 22 yr old cat go peacefully tonight. I just want to let Blue Pearl know she was more than just a cat to me. I left there tonight feeling horrible. Vet was very cold & uncaring and acted like she was in a hurry to get out of the room. I REALLY hope you treated my girl with respect & dignity that she deserved when you took her from me. Our Leonberger Hazel, broke her leg playing with a friends dog over Memorial Day Weekend. We took her to our regular vet and was told that she needed orthopedic care. We contacted Blue Pearl and headed there. We were and are extremely impressed with the care that she received. While it was quite expensive, we love our girl and would not have made any other choice. All of the staff were incredibly knowledgeable and kind. We were put on hold several times when calling, but we understand this. I always got a call back or answer to a question that I had. Dr. Ryan was especially exceptional. Very kind and caring, explained everything in much detail and when we needed reassurance he was very confident in his answers and clear. I have told many friends and family members to absolutely choose this hospital especially for orthopedic care. We are very thankful that there is a place like Blue Pearl and Drs like Dr. Ryan. read more

My dog had an encounter with a porcupine , at 6 am On a Sunday morning. I'm talking hundreds of quills... in her face, mouth , body, legs ! by 6:30 am we were on our way to Blue Pearl! They were amazing and took her in right away to treat her . She was in so much pain. They sedated her , removed the quills and gave her meds for infection & pain management ! Staff & Doctor were very kind and caring . UPDATE had to return BECAUSE of missed quills AND COULD NOT SWALLOW THE MEDS waited over 6 hours , not as friendly the 2 Nd time around . needed pain shot BECAUSE she couldn't swallow . DISHONEST!!! We brought our bunny in because he had a cough and they said he would be out in about 10-15 minutes because they were not backed up. I wanted to kill time while we waited but the vet insisted that we wait there because it would not take long. After waiting a half hour I went inside to see what was taking so long. I was a little upset because I specifically asked if it was going to be longer than a half hour, we wouldn't wait there. they assured me it would not be that long. They said they looked at her and it wasn't critical but they had to look at her again. After another hour I got a call saying out bunny is ready to be picked up. We waited ANOTHER 30 minutes before being able to take her home. All this waiting was because the bunny has a cold... HORRIBLE Customer service. Would not have had a problem with the time frame if they were at least honest about it. read more

Our 16 year old schitzu, Lucy, needed emergency vet care Friday night due to a deep cut on her mouth. Shelby answered the phone when we called in and front that first contact our service and care for Lucy was excellent. They needed to sedate her to put her lip together and Sara, the tech on duty Friday night, was excellent explaining everything to us through the evening. Both Sara and Shelby were caring, friendly and efficient. The faciility was very clean. I would absolutely recommend BluePearl for emergency care. Had a question about Lucy's medication on Saturday and received the same excellent service. This is the second terrible review I have had to leave. This place gets away with their terrible service because they are the only emergency vet clinic but they should be ashamed of the fact they exploit that. I called en route with a dog I was sure was dying. He couldn't walk and was panting hard. I called to explain I would need someone to meet us outside as my dog weighs 120 pounds and couldn't walk. I pulled up to the front and called to say we were there. The two rude staff at the front just sat there staring at us while my dog stumbled around outside the door. Then had the nerve to yell at me when I opened the door to ask if they were really just going to stand there watching my dog suffer. I would not recommend that you ever bring your animal to this vet hospital. They are very rude and inconsiderate. We were told by a very nice young lady that the ex rays for our shitzhu would take 10-15 minutes... an hour and a half later I walked up to the desk for the second or third time and this time the lady from the desk was in the lobby mopping the floor. I was saying excuse me, ma'am 2 or 3 times until I finally said... you know what it's been a long exhausting night and I have been treated badly by her, and much worse by the Vet who literally told me that my dog wasn't dying so he didnt care if I took her home or had her treated, but he would not be talked to this way because I spoke to him as an equal and didn't bow down to his over swollen ego. For a chain vet clinic they SUCK! Can't get the staff to answer questions. All they talk about is money. They tell You it will be a couple hours and then its 5 +. The front desk is horrible, especially the day shift. I called repeatedly for direction on pain relief for my terminally ill dog. They could not have been more flippant. After two days of calling, the 2nd shift finally explained that only one vet of the three vets that saw my dog could help and and she was off. Every vet and vet tech was very kind and compassionate - but they do upsell if you're not careful. You have be educated and know what questions to ask. Just say no if you feel should. Here's why I say that: We brought our dog in late one evening and they said they were going to keep her overnight. Why? She was stable, they weren't treating her and so we insisted they release her. The next day, the vet explained biopsy options and wouldn't offer an opinion of the ultrasound results. "It might be cancer and it might not, we won't know until you biopsy (i.e., spend more money here.)" Luckily the next shift vet was much more honest and straightforward with us. Emergency pet care is dismal in northern WI. They know this. Everyone has to go to them. So why the hard sell? We traveled 4 hours to get an ultrasound for our dog, next time we'll go to UW. read more

If you ever have any problems, address them with the manager, she did a phenomenal job assisting me with my concerns, and although I was not a fan of how I was treated by specific staff after euthanasia of our dog, she did what she could to ease the discomfort we felt and reminded us sometimes people have general human error and she wants what's best for her clients and for her employees to be the best they can be. she set time aside to help solve the issues, and i am forever thankful, even though served late the amount of comfort and generosity she held for myself, my boyfriend, and honoring our dog. would recommend, in the event of an actual emergency, as that's what they're for. read more

This is the worst place to take your animal. They are more worried about you wearing a mask than your sick dog. First they can't even get your dogs name correct. Jennifer at the front desk. They argue with you. Second, they did not know how to put my little dog in a blanket to take him. Right away they want to muzzle him instead of making him like a burrito in a blanket. Third they want you to sit in your can in freezing weather when they have a huge lobby. While out they want to call you on your cell phone but what do you do, when you don't have a cell phone. So then they said, we will put you in a room. Now remember they have a huge lobby. I sat in a room like in solitary confinement for hours with no one checking in or telling me anything. This is owned by Mars Candy and they have no empathy for you or your animal. All they want is your money. Right away I was told it will be $135 just to check my dogs vitals by Jennifer. She had to tell me that like i was going to leave without paying. Fourth the Vet was absolutely horrible, she had no idea what was wrong with my dog and had no suggestions. Her name is Vanhay and they should get rid of her. Fire her. She was more worried about people quitting there because of rude people than my sick dog. She was hollering at me. She told me to never come back there and I said I wouldn't because you are just horrible. Do you think people go in there happy, when their animal is sick? I was crying all morning. Vanhay should be reprimanded severely for her way she treated me. Plus she had nothing to tell me why my dog is sick. She said she was going to give him an anti nausea shot and water for dehydration. I don't believe it was done but I was charged for it, as my dog is still the same today. I did get 10 antibiotics for my $254. These people are abusive and horrible. Mars needs to get a grip on their nasty employees like this Vanhay. People are upset when they go in there and I did not see any kindness anywhere except at my discharge with Ashley and Libby. For a 15 minute ultra sound, I would have to leave my dog there for 8 hours and I live 60 miles away. They can't make any exceptions this nasty vet told me because that is the rules. I could not believe she was talking to me like that. So what am I suppose to do for 8 hours? What kind of place doesn't cater to their customers and treat them as individuals. I warn everyone do not take your animal to this horrible place. It is a corporation and all they care about is the dollar, no sympathy for your animal. DO NOT USE BLUE PEARL. My experience was the worst I ever experience in my lifetime. DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE. read more

My cat went into diabetic shock while I was on a cruise, so my family rushed him in. The staff were amazing to them, talking to me on the phone through everything and ensuring I gave approval in everything that needed to happen. Dr. Erickson was phenomenal, giving her professional recommendation and keeping me constantly updated on his status even though I was thousands of miles away. His blood sugar levels weren't even readable when he came in, and they immediately gave him medication and oxygen to try to get him back. There was a staff member with him and my family the entire time he was there, constantly checking his vitals and neurological signs to look for improvement. Unfortunately he didn't make it, but I genuinely appreciate their efforts and advice throughout the entire process. read more

The people answering the phones need some training in crisis management. They do not offer a calming influence but instead set up a kind of adversarial relationship between them and the pet owner. Vet Clinics not only deal with the pets but the pet's people. And those people can be frightened, stressed, and desperate when calling about a pet emergency. Empathy goes a long way. One suggestion: Don't tell the stressed-out pet owner that the clinic has more important and critical cases to deal with and then commence listing them. The pet owner does not need to be made to feel guilty because their pet is sick but not sick enough. It's as simple as saying: I'm so sorry she's sick. We will do our best to get her in but it is a long wait. Try to be patient. We want to help you. read more

The one star could be considered left for the few employees who actually deserve it. EXTREMELY poor management! I can not stress this enough. Racist incidents left with no disciplinary action, but very quick to discipline the one black employee they did have over EVERYTHING (there is now a newer doctor of color who doesn't experience this, then again he is a doctor). They never verify the truth, just punish per words of who they like. This is a very "favorites" kind of position, very clicky. The office manger doesn't know how to manage and is rude, she will confront you on the floor infront of everyone without knowing what the situation is. She hired her own daughter and tried to promote her to management. She also has given her daughter multiple raises so that she made more than everyone else on the floor or just as much within a small time frame. As the only colored enployee and one of the longest working 2nd shift receptionist with the most experience, I made less then everyone else by a dollar at least. These girls were mostly waiters whereas I have multiple feilds of management and government credentials with college education. It doesn't matter if you report any incidents to higher management, everyone is friends and has been for years. There are some incidents of management silencing situations when they should have been reported to HR. They instead, were "dropped" with no follow up. I had spoke with a supervisor at one point about a concern I had with the daughter and her micromanagement. The next day I was pulled into the office and blamed for things broken, an attitude, not doing my job well, and anything else she could quander. It was clear this was a desperate attempt to try and hush me, her mama bear was out not the manager. I worked here for over a year and have never felt such disrepct and embarrassment in my life. I have been humiliated and taken for granted daily at this position no matter how many hours I pick up or try to help. I resigned although if I had stuck it out for another year, I could've bought my house. I was just so desperate enough to finally leave that I put off buying a house another 2 years at least. Some disgustingly rude doctors with too high of egos. Dr. Bruce has screamed at me, literally, for letting him know patients have returned for him. The rest of the surgeons are amazing and have always been friendly. The same goes for the ER doctors, we have some really great ones and some who only want money. I would highly recommend the Brocks, Bal, Leonard, or Dale should you be searching. I'm sure there are some other great doctors I'm missing. I've personally heard along with a supervisor (we were in the doctors station) doctors mocking the receptionist because our job "wasn't hard how can they struggle or not have time to do something." The comment was never addressed, no one cared. The biggest thing is to make sure you CHECK YOUR PAYSTUB. This company steals and forgets pay. Sometimes it's the differential and sometimes they "gift" you money for their store specifically and then take it all back from your next check. Management notices and doesn't say anything until a Staff member realizes. They call it taxing and don't give it back. They gifted us $500 for their store for COVID and decided they'd just take $300 of it out of our check for taxes. Some people got the entire $500 taken back. Basically, they tax about 55-100% for anything given. If I don't see this reflect on my taxes per the irs and its covid pay policies, it has to turn into a lawsuit. Finally, If you are ever told there is no payment plan, be aware there is one! If you don't have funds at the time of service, just say you do anyways. They make you sign some forms after and let you know if you dont make payments they send the info to collections. Dont fear the prices, just go and say you have the funds. At the end say you have nothing, you still got the services. This doesn't apply to the hospitalized patients by any means. If I could have given them NO stars that would have been more fitting. We have had issues in the past, BUT as a specialty vet we had no choice. We brought our dog on a Saturday afternoon, for what we thought were stomach after nothing but a big run around process, we ended up taking him back 2 days later, no better almost worst and with a INVOICE of 2100. For nothing, they are no help. I had no confidence in this clinic in the first place, and again left with a bad taste in my mouth. I would never take an animal here, they are of no help and with only greed and money in mind they are not there for the animals they are there to soak the consumer as much as possible.
