Another fantastic experience at Blue Pearl! The receptionist, vet tech, and neurology doctor were all fantastic and they didn't recommend additional unnecessary tests. Instead, they gave me other options and recommendations for who could help. The receptionist was friendly and caring on the way and and on the way out. She even remembered Lucy's name! The vet tech was incredibly caring, patient, and understanding of Lucy's special needs. The doctor had all of the previously mentioned characteristics, plus the in depth knowledge of Lucy's possible health issue. I also think the charge for the visit was reasonable, as well. This is the most difficult review I have ever written. In fact, I have put this off for nearly 3 years because losing my beloved Sasha Beagles McKenzie was so devastating. I miss her so much. However, I have nothing but praise for Dr. Rachel Reiman, Lisa, and the team. When I was [sadly] referred to what was previously know as "Lakeshore Veterinary Hospital," every member of the staff made us feel as comfortable as possible. When I had a concern, Dr. Reiman and Lisa always made time for us whether it was in Glendale or Port Washington. Dr. Reiman is an amazing woman. I can never thank her enough for caring for Sasha and providing medicinal assistance that allowed her to have 8 more glorious months, without pain, with me. The night Sasha crossed the rainbow bridge, Dr. Reiman stayed HOURS after her shift - 6 hours - because she cared so much about my little "pocket beagle." If I could give a 10/5 I would. We first went to BluePearl Glendale last year when our dog was having stomach issues and needed an emergency surgery. The whole team was amazing, but I cannot say enough about how incredible Dr. Tyler Klose was. He truly cared about us and our dog, Scout. Not only that, but he continued to help us through continuous work over last year in follow up visits, caring, thoughtful, and insightful emails, and advising on how to proceed throughout our journey when we did not know what to do. We sadly had to put our dog down this week and throughout the end of life process, Dr Klose helped put our minds at peace and again, truly showed us how much he cares about his practice and patients. I would never go anywhere else. Dr. Sarah Muhs was amazing as well. She helped us through the surgery and was ironically the one to perform the end of life treatment. She made us comfortable and was nothing but helpful with both instances. read more

Date of visit: 6/18-6/19/22 When our little guy was experiencing some GI issues, I checked the BluePearl website to ensure they were open and operating before making the drive over. The site advised that we call first and the person we spoke to was great about providing wait times and setting expectations for us in terms of cost. When we arrived, the staff was great and got our initial information quickly and with great care. Not long after we sat down someone came to take our pupper back and then we were led to an exam room. We were definitely impressed, but apparently too soon as we were then asked to leave the room and go back into the general waiting area. After a time, we then were brought to another room to wait. And wait. A tech came and gathered more information from us and then we waited some more. The doctor came in later and asked many of the same questions the tech asked us, which was a bit concerning, but I chalked that up to confirming the information rather than not communicating it. Then the real waiting game began and here is really the issue I had, the chairs in the exam room are not comfortable and it probably would have been better if we went to main waiting area where we could at least lay out, something you really need to do at 2 a.m. We got a positive end result for our pooch and I would definitely take him again, though I sure hope I don't have to! read more

I was EXTREMELY impressed with the care, attentiveness, and service I recently received at Blue Pearl. It was late at night when I had an emergency with my best friend Porkchop. They have cameras on in the parking lot so they saw me frantically carrying her in and had staff ready to go to help when I ran in the door. She was whisked back immediately and cared for. Dr. Linklater was patient with my emotional self as he explained what was happening, why, and what was next. I asked a million questions and never felt that he was rushing to get out of there as many doctors/vets do. The rest of the staff was so kind and empathetic to both of us and I absolutely feel we got the best care. The best part? She got to come home with me. I never felt upsold for any tests or procedures, and for an emergency vet, the prices were very reasonable. I just wish they had regular vets so I could bring her here long-term, but in the (hopefully never again) event of an emergency, I would be sure to return here. read more

Drove an hour & a half due to all of the other ER vets in my area being at capacity. Everyone there was so kind and caring. They ran my cats vitals & told me he didn't have a blockage (which is what we were concerned about) and gave me the option of A) going home and waiting until morning when my normal vet opened up to run some tests, or B) to wait a few hours until their ER vet was available to see my cat, give him a consultation ($200 off the jump), and run tests on him- but they were honest with me in saying it would cost less at my vet and honestly he'd be fine waiting because they could feel that there was no blockage. Really appreciate how honest they are instead of just saying I needed to stay to run the tests so that they could make money. read more

I have so many wonderful things to say about the quality of care at Lakeshore Vet Specialists. I have personal experience with Oncology and Dermatology. Dr. Reiman and her team (Lisa & Rachel) did an amazing job treating my dog with Lymphoma (he's now in remission! Woohoo!) We've also seen Dr. Peterson with Dermatology several times - she's also awesome! We frequent the Oak Creek and Glendale locations most often. Lakeshore is definitely expensive but they are very transparent about price and the specialists are so great that you truly get value for your money. I've only used their Emergency services 1x at Glendale and I wasn't thrilled with the wait time and sense of urgency. We came in around 430am and we were the only ones there. They stuck us in a room and we waited for HOURS (like 4+). Although, they had pretty poor service that morning, they made up for it when they diagnosed our dog with Lymphoma and were able to fit him in with the Oncology team for treatment the same day. Overall, I can't recommend them enough. We are very fortunate to have access to such great specialty care in SE Wisconsin. Thank you Lakeshore! read more

I've always had good experiences with Lakeshore, whether it's with a specialist or through their ER services. I know the biggest complaint most people have is the wait for ER services next to the cost of treatments, but that is just the nature of the beast when it comes to unexpected vet visits and specialty care. I appreciate the compassion and care I have received every time I have been here for their services. My dog had sudden issues with her spine and needed surgery to correct it; My cat had sudden onset blindness and they were able to treat and diagnose him; my other dog has epilepsy and they have treated her multiple time with overnight stays until they knew she was well enough to go home. Yes, it was VERY EXPENSIVE, and I may one of few people in the world that views their pets like actual children, but this is the responsibility I took on when getting a dog. She deserved so much more in life than to be euthanized when she was perfectly healthy (other than her IVDD). So yeah, as a person would not hesitate to have their child treated, I treated my dog. Because it's the least we can do for our companion animals. But I digress... Off my soapbox now. They are wonderful and are doing the very best they can. You can't see behind the curtain, so if the lobby is empty and you are not understanding why you are on hour 2 and you still haven't been seen or haven't talked to a doctor yet, just know they are doing the work of many people and only have two arms. I had 2 Siamese- 1 diagnosed with a heart condition and the other with an immune disease. When each originally showed symptoms I immediately took them to the Oak Creek location. my cats received such good care and loving attention. they received continuing care at this location that was above and beyond. yes, there were times even with an appointment I had to wait due to other patient/emergencies that needed more attention, I understood and the staff was very accommodating. When it was time to put them down years later and late at night, they were extremely comforting. I had also taken them to the Silver Spring location and received the same good treatment. read more

When I arrived for a surgical procedure there was a sign in the doorway saying they were not taking emergency cases. The same sign was there when I came hours later to pick my dog up. Her doctor did not have Glendale hours for the 10 day follow up so I had to go to the Port location and the same sign was in the doorway there. I am very concerned that if one of my dogs has bloat I'll have to just watch her die. Our regular vet is 30 minutes away. A critical amount of time for a dog in bloat. As I understand it, most of the vets no longer open for emergencies because we had an emergency hospital available. Are they converting to a surgical center only? This five star review is only for the Veterinary Specialists part of this operation, not the Emergency Hospital although it's all the same building and staff. The front end reception for emergency procedures are a mixed bag, some are competent others, not so much. The place is very expensive as an emergency room, and just pulling into the parking lot one can see why. It's a plush building inside and outside, it's nicer in fact than the human medical clinic I go to for myself. There are layers of workers beyond the usual veterinary operation, including a specialist called "your Care Coordinator." Just like the human medical care services I get for myself, the wallet biopsy is a first priority here, though they are more polite about it than Aurora Medical. I would give the emergency services aspect of this operation three stars only, recommending it only for actual emergencies or pampered pedigreed suburban pets whose human roommates make too much money. Otherwise, try your best to make it to your neighborhood veterinarian, or maybe try St. Paul clinic - see my review to see the start of my experience with the five star veterinary specialists side of this hospital. I ended up with a stray kitten that was the victim of some unspeakable trauma, her pelvis was shattered. She was fortunate to have no major organ damage but she wouldn't walk again without the help of a good orthopedic surgeon. My veterinarian at the Greenfield Clinic, who I've learned to trust with my beloved pets' lives, asserted the only surgeons with the necessary skills in Southeast Wisconsin were here. This is where the five star rating comes from, the orthopedic surgery is absolutely a best in class operation. My vet warned it wouldn't be cheap, and prepared me for the sticker shock. Yes, I did have to max out my credit, but you'd have to meet this poor kitten to understand. Plus, I'm Buddhist. So, this stray became Hoshi (no name at first, an attempt to not get attached) when I realized she was depending on me to help and she didn't have a lot of choices. Obviously in a lot of pain based on the x-rays, she didn't complain at all, she was grateful for a little warmth, petting and something to eat. Her gracious and polite personality won over the techs and surgeon here, not just me. When they gave me the estimate for the reconstructive surgery (in the end around 5K), I realized they discounted to meet my credit limit and were not so secretly rooting for the cat. I like it when veterinary personnel can't help showing that they care. By unfortunate coincidence my brother-in-law had a very similar traumatic pelvic injury and his resulting reconstructive hip surgery came to a little over $64,000 and there was more size for those surgeons to work with so in a way I felt I got a bargain. The surgeon was obviously proud of his work, and he should be, it's very impressive. Hoshi is recovering way ahead of schedule and is playing, actively enjoying life. It's the best five grand I've ever spent. Well out of money, I couldn't afford their cat physical therapy so I just learned how to do that on the youtubes, My vet has confirmed they did a remarkable job putting this little cat back together, though with all the staples, screws, plates and other metal in her, I think she's going to have problems with TSA should she ever decide to fly on a commercial flight. As she builds up some muscle tone, and her fur grows back from where she was shaved, she won't have a limp or any evidence of her nearly fatal trauma. I hope no animal dear to you ever needs orthopedic surgery, but if it happens, this is where you find the best. read more

We brought our previous cat to this clinic because she went blind over the weekend. This clinic recommended that we put her down because she was in so much pain. When we spoke with our vet the following Monday, she said it was unnecessary. She told us that Blue Pearl staffs lower level vets on the overnight shift and weekends and they confused this blindness with that of dogs. Cats can tolerate this ailment more than dogs and oftentimes recover. I was distraught and blamed them for killing my beloved cat. I still do by the way. My husband and I just moved here from South Carolina and thought my cat was just having normal behaviors from the big move to Milwaukee when things did not improve with her and continued to decline I decided to take her in to blue pearl and thank goodness I did because she ended up having an acorn obstructing her intestines. They made sure I fully understood what options I had and were empathetic in the fact that this was a very hard situation, especially considering we had just moved here from across the country. They kept me updated when my sweet girl had to stay overnight in their care and told me I could call at anytime of the night if I wanted to know how she was doing. They also handled everything as a step by step process to ensure it was the most cost effective for us. We actually ended up paying less at the end than we thought we would so that was a huge bonus. My dog had a cough that drastically worsened on the third day. I called and they asked some basic questions and immediately got me an appointment. From intake to diagnosis to discharge, these folks were incredibly transparent on price, what was going to happen next, and diagnosis. They explained three different options for trying to diagnose his cough, the benefits and costs of each, and why they would want to use each approach. They gave me time to talk it over with my wife. When I was second guessing myself, they reassured me "there is no wrong decision here because there is no answer key to this question." Not only did they find the problem, but they got him on a medication plan and gave me plenty of time to ask questions. I had to take my 16 year old kitty here in the middle of the night, she was scheduled to be put down the next day at the vet but she got worse throughout the night. I called in advance so they knew I was coming. Of course I was sad, I also had never put a pet down before. The lady working the front desk went out of her way to contact Care Credit for me (my card hadn't been used in awhile and they had to reactivate it) so that I could spend time with the doctor and kitty in the room. I can't remember what doctor helped us but she was great. She made us feel calm and assured me that I was doing the right thing. She let me sit with my cat for as long as I needed alone and was just very gentle and compassionate about the whole process. I highly recommend them for any emergency care you might need. read more

If you get the right vet, this place is 5 stars plus. If not, it's a three star vet. I brought one of my cats here three times over the course of about a week, two of the three were emergency situations. Starting with the positive: I ultimately had to put my cat to sleep, but the vet who helped me and the staff were amazing! Caring, compassionate and just overall wonderful. The vet gave me a hug and assured me that I was making the correct, though very difficult, decision. They made me a paw print in clay to take home and they sent a card a few days after. I couldn't have asked for better care. On the other hand, the first time I brought my cat in it was like pulling teeth to get any information. I was there for hours! Now, I completely understand that this is an emergent care facility, but when a vet repeatedly tells you that she'll be right back with an update, an estimate, discharge instructions, etc., I don't expect to wait another half hour. For both situations when this particular vet treated my cat, I had to ask at the front desk several times what the status was and if the vet knew I was still there. The particular vet seemed incredibly overworked and looked exhausted. So I guess the bottom line is cross your fingers that you get an alert, responsive vet. I'm thankful for the care Lakeshore provided but I'm also glad I don't have to go here all the time. read more

Our regular vet had taken X-rays of her chest for coughing, (reg vet thought at first she had acid reflux) and said he thought she had lung cancer, probably metastasized from another tumor elsewhere. Three days later she began coughing and gagging so badly, we took her to Blue Pearl. Because it was a breathing issue they took her back right away, did tests, gave us the terrible news that she had a large tumor in abdomen, necrotic fluid in belly, and most likely lung cancer (they don't diagnose until an oncologist sees the dog ). They drained the fluid from her belly to make her more comfortable, gave us meds to help her pain, and said no treatment options as it appeared extensive. 1-2 weeks prognosis. We were shattered. The vet who treated her and worked with us, Dr. Sage, was so kind, listened to all of our questions and concerns, and we felt he was compassionate and honest. We are so appreciative of his demeanor, knowledge, and care. A few days later, we took her to the University of Wisconsin Veterinary School oncologist for a 2nd opinion, since we were told there were no treatment options and she had not yet seen an oncologist. The UW oncologist confirmed the diagnosis, said 2-3 months to live. Four days later we were back at Blue Pearl, our sweet dog could barely breathe, and we made the devastating choice for humane euthanasia. The young woman vet who did the procedure could not have been more kind and compassionate. We were allowed as much time as needed to mourn with our dog afterward in a very private room at the back of the hospital. All in all a horribly heartbreaking experience but we felt this devastating procedure was done in such a calm, quiet way and we are thankful. The only part we were not that pleased with was our meeting with the social worker who met with us prior to the euthanasia. Our dog could not breathe...and we were asked to go thru a series of questions about what type of box do you want for the ashes and do you want a paw print? How about a name plate for the box yes or no?? She filled out the order form while our beloved dog was somewhere, struggling to breathe. In the moment I didn't think of it because I was traumatized by what was happening. PLEASE wait until after the fact to get this info, because now all I can think of is that our little girlie girl was made to struggle to breathe longer while I decided if I wanted fur clippings or not. I think the compassionate vet provided more "social work" service than the social worker did. The social worker called two days later to see how I was doing....I guess that was nice but honestly I didn't want to speak to her again. In the moment, she could've provided comfort. She could've asked the questions at a non-urgent time. I'm sure they have a procedure they follow based on Blue Pearl's policies, but I suggest if the dog is in a situation where they can't breathe....WAIT on asking the owner these questions and let us get our dog crossed over the rainbow bridge first. Other than that one issue, we were very pleased with Blue Pearl and their staff. We had a terrible experience with the "other" major emergency vet hospital in the northern metro Milwaukee area, and Blue Pearl is a hundred times better overall. I would recommend this ER bet highly. read more

How sad that you are forced to not be with our pet during a frightening time for them. I brought my 9lb Yorkie in with an earache at 2pm. I was told they'd have to sedate her to check her ear. I told them her earaches are chronic and her regular vet has no problem taking a culture. I told them how to hold her to bring her comfort and feel secure, they didn't, I could tell by the way the tech held her when she took her and brought her back to me. The vet told me that she could go into respiratory destress and that could be dangerous. I'm a paramedic and while I'm not a veterinarian, I know my dog. She was panting because of the situation and then separated her from me. How very sad to try and push someone into a direction by using fear. Shame on you, shame on you!! I took my dog home, gave her ear drops that I found from our vet and we are on the mend. This industry of emergency vet services is ridiculous. How sad for pet owners. I have been to this vet clinic once. I have a lab with severe skin allergies. The vet dermatologist outlined a ridiculously complex and expensive regimen which would have made my dog her patient for life. They are an emergency vet clinic in my backyard, so when my 12 yr old lab became very ill after hours, I called them and was told there would be a 5 hr wait....wound up taking this Loved Memeber of my family to WVRCY in Waukesha were she was euthanized for a ruptured splenic tumor. Not sure why an emergency vet clinic would have a 5 hour wait but that's what I was told. read more

We had a 3y/o Frenchie who had a sudden issue having trouble turning her head or body to the right. We took her to WVRC in Racine (they're awful, but the only close option) & got her meds & made sure she was stable. After 3 weeks of stability & incremental improvement, our puppy started to show worsening of symptoms. We rushed her to Lakeshore to get her stable & to the neurologist. Initial experience was great, nice facility & staff. We left her there so she had 24/7 care. It only went downhill (very much so) from there. She had to be put under for MRI, X-Rays & spinal tap to examine her neurological systems. (results came back entirely normal). Docs said it would be beneficial to her in the long-term to have her soft palate cut back. We told them if they felt it's beneficial to her recovery to do it, but if it were some "maybe down the road" benefit we didn't want undue stress on her while she was having these unknown complications. They did NOT do the palate surgery & afterwards told us not only was it enlarged, but severely enlarged. They said they misunderstood, which 2 of us had made clear to multiple doctors, but beyond that, when they realized how bad it was, never called to ask if we wanted it done! As such, they recommended putting her under AGAIN to do the surgery. We were told it would help her recovery & she was expected to do well w/ the procedure. We wanted to do it the first time (if needed) due to risk associated w/ anesthesia, particularly in short-palate breeds. I spoke w/ Blair, the hospital admin about waiving the second anesthesia fee since the procedure should have been done the first time. She did and we scheduled the procedure for the following morning. Late that night, she was rushed into emergency surgery for her palate for trouble breathing. We got a call that there was a massive emergency procedure fee that would be charged. Of course, I OK'd it w/out hesitation. An $1800 procedure became $3300 for something they should have done the first time. After the procedure, she was stable with a substantial piece of palate out along with some other tissue to widen her airways. We were told she was doing as well as could be expected & they planned to extubate her the following day. The next morning I went to visit our pup & comfort her. Everyone seemed very optimistic & said she was doing very well. Later that afternoon I got a call that when they tried to extubate her she was getting very worked up and had a hard time breathing. Her condition had worsened, they said, severely to the point that she had a 80-90% terminal diagnosis. They couldn't articulate what was happening nor would they give any clear answers about how we went from a very optimistic prognosis to essentially terminal in such a short time. They blamed her anatomy and said she's always had problems breathing and it was what it was. But they had never met her before this visit and she had not once had any breathing issues in her life, nor any other genetic problems. Out of all these doctors and specialists, all they could do was blame a 3y/o puppy's anatomy for a sudden illness and difficult surgical recovery. We never got answers & when we asked questions we were dismissed as if we didn't know what we were talking about. We went up that night & spoke with a Dr. who did nothing to explain what had happened, just say "we don't know, it's her anatomy." After all this back & forth nonsense, the doctor said we could try a temp tracheostomy to help her palate irritation/swelling reduce. The entire process, we told them we don't want anything done if she won't have a quality of life. It was always about her life being happy/healthy. After discussing it, the doctor agreed it would be a good option. We were given an invoice for another $8k for JUST the tracheostomy on top of the $8k already billed. It was never about money, but w/ something like that we needed to sit down again to make sure our puppy would have a good quality of life & if not, we didn't want her suffering. The Dr. suddenly changed her tune to say she didn't think the procedure would be likely to succeed & our puppy would probably need a permanent trach which would MAYBE give her 2 yrs of life. We asked her to explain sudden change in opinion, & again, no clear answer. We were simply dismissed. We couldn't bear to put our poor baby through anymore pain, especially not knowing if it would help at all. It was awful, but we made the decision to put her down peacefully. The girl who brought the paperwork for putting pup down was so rude w/ attitude acting as if we were an inconvenience the whole time. We had dif docs everyday who never talked to each other & were very unhelpful. After our final decision I asked for Blair to call me to discuss the events. She never called even after multiple attempts. We never got a single answer on what had happened & I believe they covered up malpractice given how shady the whole process was. I had to take my cat here today because he was experiencing symptoms of a urinary blockage which he has gotten before, and it is quite an expensive procedure for a poor college kid, as well as life threatening to a male cat. Upon arrival I was very upset and crying because I wasn't going to be able to unblock his bladder again due to funds. The front desk man was extremely kind and patient with me and gave me some good advice too! They took my cat immediately, and informed me within 20 minutes that it wasn't a urinary blockage. The vet and vet techs were very helpful in providing preventative measures that my previous vet had left out. They also suggested a surgery in the future, that my previous veterinarian had failed to inform me about and could've saved me a lot of money had I know about it! I've never written a yelp review before, but I was extremely grateful that they were open and honest about his conditions; and help me as much as possible. read more

I was so impressed with everyone at this clinic. I had to bring my cat there for an emergency visit and called on the way there to make sure they were ready for her the moment we got there. They aren't letting people in the building due to COVID-19 risks, but I called again when I arrived and they quickly came out to take her in for assessment and treatment. Within minutes I got a call from the vet explaining her condition and we merge by steps they were taking, then was transferred to go over billing. I know billing is the last thing you want to think about in an emergency, but I'm guessing that people in the past have created an issue that requires upfront payment deposits now. Someone always ruins it for everyone. Anyway, I received regular updates on my cat's condition via phone several times during the day/night and if they missed a time they said they would call, I assumed it was because they were busy saving another animal, so I would wait a bit and then call. Only once did I call and they asked to call me back because they were dealing with an emergency. They then called me back a bit later. They seemed genuinely concerned about my let's wellbeing and went over home care instructions very thoroughly. They always answered all of my questions and asked if I had any others. They even called a few days later to follow up on how she was doing. The people that work here are incredible. I can't even imagine the sacrifices they make and the stress they are under... I hope to never have to go back (so my pets all stay healthy & safe), but if I ever have to, I know they'll be in the best hands possible. read more

My primary veterinarian at Shorewood Animal Hospital recommended Lakeshore Vet Specialists for my 15 year old cat who has had a series of issues. From the receptionists to the technicians to the doctors, the care and information has been superb. Also, when something happens that I don't know how to handle after the hours my primary vet is closed, I am confident that Meli will get the attention she needs. Sometimes there is a long wait but that is common in peoples urgent care situations as well. Most all of the doctors are competent AND compassionate and know how to handle their 'patients' when they get anxious like mine does :). read more

After our chihuahua was biten by a large dog, we were frantic to find a pet hospital that was open and could see her right away. Upon arrival, the front desk staff greeted us warmly and a tech came out immediately. Dr. Sage and Mateo were very detailed and informative with what needed to be done, and how to care for her once she went home with us. My dog was urinating blood and could not get into my vet. This is a 24 hour emergency animal hospital and when I went in with my pup (6:30 pm) I was told " well, we are not taking anymore patients" I told the front girl what was happening and she came back to me saying "2 doctors are leaving, so we won't take any new patients". REALLY??? If you are not taking patients, change your hours to 8-6 pm your NOT 24 HOURS!!!!! read more

I took my dog here when she was very ill and was not digesting her food. I called ahead and they took her right away when I arrived. The amazing doctors figured out that she was having a pancreatitis attack. She ended up having to stay overnight for 3 days, but the staff kept me in the loop the whole time, and I was able to visit whenever I wanted. I'm sure my baby would have died if I hadn't brought her here. She had round-the-clock care and I truly felt that my dog was well cared for. Today she is happy and healthy thanks to Lakeshore at Glendale. read more
