My one complaint about this island is the lack of cafes where people can go to study. Over the years, I would come to Blue Tree because it is the best coffee for the price range (I only drink black coffee so can't speak for the lattes). I always thought that this would be a good place to get work done. Fast forward to this past May and June when I had to write up my dissertation. I tried a few different places, and found Blue Tree the best environment for me in terms of productivity. It helps that there is free wifi, free on-site parking with validation, electrical outlets and plenty of vegetarian fare to keep the brain juice flowing (I'm an omnivore). Try the banana muffin as a mid-morning snack and the daily soup for lunch*! I'm now done with my requirements for graduate school. The two stars is all for the free (with donation!) metal straws they offer. My husband and I stopped in on a Sunday morning for coffee and a pastry. Being vegan I had read on Yelp they always had some good choices. For a Sunday morning, they had two options and both were gluten free, not vegan. We both decided to order the avocado toast instead and I got a latte and my husband an iced coffee. I understand businesses have to hire and train new people, but it was clear the woman at the counter did not know what she was doing and the other associate helping her left her to make the coffee with no real instructions or oversight. Our drinks came up and my coffee tasted like nothing. I tried to stir it- still nothing. I could've asked them to remake it but my desire for a latte had passed by that point. Next our avocado toast came out- it looked nice enough, but there was no seasoning to it or any real flavor. I was really looking forward to another option in Honolulu but won't be coming back. Good coffee is a craft and the owners/managers should really be watching new hires and helping them learn how to properly make drinks. read more

Blue Tree has excellent coffee, baristas, and atomosphere. It's great for lazily sipping and reading a book or lugging in some homework and getting down to business with a quad espresso. Their blue tree latte is my favorite with a nice cinnamon flavor and made using their homemade almond milk it's an awesome specialty. Their house blend has a mellow flavor and is made using a blend of local beans. If you don't like coffee they have plenty of other delicious options like the chai cider or any of their fresh smoothies. All of the blended drinks are delicious and made using fresh ingredients. In terms of atmosphere they have plenty if places to sit, all comfortable chairs and couches. The decor is hipster but endearing (bicycles everywhere!). The baristas have always been polite, paitient, and knowledgeable. read more

I'm, soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo satisfied. I stopped here to wake myself up and get refreshed. I tried the Tropical Midori, which I could choose to put either spinach or kale. I chose spinach, and waited for like a minute, and it was ready. The moment I sipped it.... Oh my, what a fresh juice it was! The juice itself was green, but had a strong accent of pineapples. I just felt that yes, I am in Hawaii! I was there for like an hour doing some PC work, but the staffs were so nice and let me taste some other juice for 3 times! Such a nice place. It's definitely really cute, has a rustic feel to it (in my opinion) and the ambiance is nice. I ordered the "Simply Watermelon" which is basically watermelon juice and that's always a winner. Definitely was a perfect drink, not bone chilling cold where you can't taste it, but not lukewarm where it's disgusting and slimy. Also split a chilled pasta salad with a friend who also got the Blue Tree Latte. The pasta was fine, not the best I've had but it did the job of filling me for the time being. Took a sip of the BTL and it was okay too. I'm not a bitter coffee person so it wasn't my favorite but it wasn't an overwhelming bitter. On our walk from downtown to Waikiki, we discovered this. A delightful surprise. Many vegan/gf choices, local and organic sourcing & they make their own but milks. They offer an interesting variety of juices such as tumeric, beet, celery and apple or maple syrup, lemonade, cayenne pepper and water (part of the master cleanse). They offer what you need for a cleanse and they have a alkaline water refill program too. Or is it because you're finally at a place in your life when you're so tired of settling for anything less than what you're truly worthy of and say "be real with me, or just leave me alone." Since that first day I've come back again and again over the years because it's my happy place of supreme productivity. My husband doesn't care for Blue Tree (and we will attempt not to fault him for not being able to see the magical unicorn in the cafe) but it's TOTALLY my jam. From the friendly staff to the great selection of fresh juices, smoothies and coffee to the phenomenal baked goods to the overall vibe of grown-up chill. You don't get the weird men surfing porn on their PC laptops in a corner at Blue Tree Cafe (uh you totally know what I mean), but a mix of professionals grabbing a latte to yogis headed to class to yummy mommies chatting with friends. This place is my favorite coffee shop. If I feel like I've been eating like crap and need to put something healthy in my body, this is the first place I think of. Their açaí bowl is my favorite on the island because their açaí isn't very sweet and pairs perfectly with the type of honey and granola they use. I also love their almond milk which they make in house and has a hint of sweetness because of the dates they use to make it. Another one of my favorites is their lean green which tastes like a mango smoothie and is thick enough to act as a meal replacement. I've done their three day juice cleanse in the past and have no complaints. I honestly wasn't even hungry for solid foods while I was doing it because they give you enough juice for the day to fill you up. I am completely and utterly obsessed with Blue Tree Cafe! Ever since I started this thing called Grad School, I've been scoping out Oahu's coziest coffee shops to spend hours upon hours writing papers and studying for exams while intravenously caffeinating myself. Blue Tree Cafe seems to fit the bill...and then some! Not only is their shop super welcoming, comfy, and hip, but their coffee is out of this world! I got their Mocha with Almond Milk that is made right there in the shop, and let me tell you, that almond milk is as good as it gets! If you're feeling indecisive, give the Mocha with Almond Milk a shot, you'll swear you're drinking a little cup of heaven. So my caffeine fix and study nook are covered...but what about the food? Glad you asked! I leaped into 2013 with a new outlook on food that is heavily focused on clean eating. Basically lots of raw veggies, vegan recipes (I'm not a vegan, but boy can you cook some amazingly delicious vegan food! Who knew?!), and trying as much as possible to steer clear of processed and fried foods. Ummm, so...how's eating like a gazelle, you might ask? Actually, since I've discovered places like Blue Tree Cafe, it's surprisingly easy, satisfying and super yummy! Blue Tree's chef makes lots of vegan, raw, all natural and all delicious snacks! My favorite is the raw lasagna. It's amazing! Don't worry, there are also carnivorous selections like a variety of sandwiches and pastries. They also make their own Kombucha tea! I have tried the bottled Kombucha in the past and was completely turned off to it. It tasted like rotten beer. Blue Tree's Kombucha is quite the opposite! The Pacifica Condo has developed quite the trendy little foodie haven on Kapiolani with Doraku, Chai's and Blue Tree popping up in the past few months. I've been to Blue Tree Cafe a handful of times now, and I have to say, I am quite in love with this place. The cafe itself is so full of character. It's a bit of trendy, a bit of shabby chic, a bit of hipster and a bit of Portland (which if you know me, is my soul mate of cities). I can literally sit in this cafe for hours, just chatting it up with my girlfriends, fantasizing that it's my own living room or fancy kitchen, "collecting moments, not things" as it so charmingly states on their wall. I love it here. Then to top it off, the food and drinks here are top notch! We are talking HEALTHY, Joel Furhman micronutrient rich foods, that are super tasty! I most recently had the raw zucchini pasta with raw pumpkin seed pesto and it was amazing. They also offer many other raw, organic, vegan, gluten free options, as well as sandwiches and wraps that use fresh and real (as opposed to processed) ingredients. I hear that they use local produce as well. You can see them juicing or preparing fruits and veggies behind the counter, and it is a beautiful site to see the FRESH, colorful produce going into your smoothies, juice and meal. And for those that are not as into micronutrients, there are your usual cafe foods such as chocolate chip cookies, scones and breads too, which are equally just as tasty (and let's pretend that they are just as healthy too). Perhaps one of the things that they are most known for here is their housemade raw organic almond milk. What?!?!? Yes, they make their own almond milk. So when you order a drink, be sure to ask for almond milk in it. Trust. My favorite drink so far is the Blue Tree Latte which has almond milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, honey and espresso. It's the most decadent coffee I've ever had that packs some major nutrition. Love it! Next on my must try list is their Kombucha. And for you budget minded people like myself, be sure to check-in using yelp, to get 10% off your purchase, and take advantage of their Happy Hour, which is 7-8 am and 7-9pm in which you can get $1 off any item that has "Blue Tree" in it's name, so the Blue Tree Latte, smoothies and acai bowls are all part of this deal. My Blue Tree latte came out to $3.75, and if you compare that to a Starbucks drink, wouldn't you much rather be getting something that uses organic, quality, healthy ingredients? In my opinion Blue Tree Cafe is truly as good as it gets when it comes to coffee houses. Healthy, tasty, local, affordable (for the quality you are getting) and beautiful. Really, does it get better than this? I think not, Blue Tree has set a new standard on Oahu for coffeehouses and cafes. Ermerhgerd. Here's to a place that makes you feel like 10 times healthier by just stepping foot in this cute, cozy place. Vintage bikes adorn this little cafe, and helpful and happy employees man this joint. Did I also mention I got to meet up with one of my favorite Yelp friends during this time, which makes this 100th review even more special?! Talk about a win win situation! Besides getting to stay and chat for a couple of hours, I got to do this accompanied with a nice old portion of good eats!!! What was on my personalized menu today was their Blue Tree Cafe acai bowl, strawberry scone and a caramel machiatto. Eric Robert knows his stuff about good acai bowls and showed me the ways of this place's acai bowls. Not overly sugary, this acai bowl had a nice touch of thinly sliced bananas, blueberries, and oats, and of course honey (free of charge, of course. Ahem, Lanikai Juice, please take note). The small was decently priced and a perfect amount of acai to fill me up and led me to not even touch my strawberry scone (it's alright, it will make an awesome breakfast for tomorrow). Speaking of scones, it was also nice to chat with a fellow scone fan and discuss other scone places which led us to talk about food in general, which then of course led us to talk about Yelp and the awesome people that take a part in Yelp. The caramel machiatto was a win, and again, you can really taste the difference if I were to compare it to Starbucks. The coffee is strong, the layers were oh so darn pretty that I didn't want stir it... Andddd, the flavor was rich and silky. Actually, now that I think about it, this place reminds me of a Hipster Starbucks. That's the perfect way to describe this joint. The artsy fixie bikes on the wall, the random candles and lotions you can buy, the over priced premade food, cramped seating and flippant attitudes (mostly from the patrons). After looking over the menu I ordered the Cure All, which is kombucha, aloe and cane. This was my first time in this place, and I, ME, I had to tell the guy making my drink what goes in it. Weird, but whatever, I can be a ding dong and forget shit, too. I also decided to pick something out to eat. Of all the options the only thing that looked appetizing was the curry chicken wrap. It was okay...not worth $8. The patio seating was lovely. Let me start with the atmosphere of Blue Tree. All the furniture, I was told, is second hand and they have refurbished it. There is a bike art piece that I am obsessed with! On the top is a bike painted entirely white and attached to the bottom is a bike painted black. With the mirror image thing going on, it really makes it a piece to ponder, I love it! (check out my Instagram for a pic: cmpenwell) The menu has a good variety of everything, from milk shakes to local coffees. I wasn't in the mood for a drink and ordered an Acai bowl. While it was great tasting and had bananas, blueberries, and granola I was surprised at the size. I was paying almost $7 for this acai bowl and it had maybe a half cup of acai in it. I was pretty disappointed on the size to price scale. If you're going there just for drinks it would be great because on Wednesday's they have wine night! Who doesn't love that?! Love love love the stylish decor here!! And the funny employees and variety of drinks and smoothies. Love their Very Verde smoothie, which has some avocado, kale, hemp... I like that they serve kombucha, too. I've tried their hummus platter, acai bowl and vegan mac and cheese, which was interesting. Nothing really special. Definitely want to try their other smoothies and raw lasagna, though. Hopefully in time their foods will match up to their much more polished, upscale atmosphere. LOVE IT. I think I am addicted to their almond milk concoctions, and I otherwise don't even like fake milk (soy, rice -- hate it all). The Blue Tree Blend smoothie is like Lanikai Juice's Kailua Monkey, but on crack: acai, almond milk, chocolate protein powder, cinnamon, Himalayan sea salt, lots of wow, best enjoyed immediately after it's brewed, but you'll wish you had a supply to last you all day. In terms of coffee, I haven't tried much there, but the Blue Tree latte was even awesome iced -- again, made with their home-pressed almond milk and a host of spices -- and I'm afraid I won't be able to deviate from that choice. I'm not that much of a hippie, so I'm not really into all the vegan cuisine, but I did try a chicken sandwich that was quite good. People have complained on Yelp about the service, but the few times I've been to Blue Tree, the staff have been nothing short of courteous, if not just downright nice. They're always accommodating enough to spell everything out for me in terms of ingredients. The only thing that bugs me about this place is the parking situation. If you go during the day, it's not too bad, but in the early evening, the parking converts to valet-only, mostly for Doraku and Chai. It seems like the valets will let you self-park if empty stalls are available and you tell them you're just running in to pick up a smoothie, but sometimes (like Friday afternoons), even that can be a challenge. I officially understand why Emi Hart loves this place so much! All you really have to do is walk into the place & you'll feel healthy! Like seriously. Other than the typical espresso drinks you would expect to find at a coffee shop, they have an extensive selection of healthy smoothies. I really like the food options they have. It's a nice change from the greasy fast food that's all around us these days. UYE and since then I've been coming back. *on repeat "they make their own almond milk". Now that I got that out of the way... LOVE that it's clean and they consistently keep it that way. They offer happy hour at 4/430? which selected drinks are on special and all food is 25% off. Keep in mind this place is very health conscious so you're probably thinking "ohh it's expensive" uhh NO! okay...maybe the food is, but during happy hour it's not...hence the word "happy hour" to make you happy? Wow, just went to their Christmas Day opening and got a "Our cafe latte". They mentioned it had homemade cinnamon almond milk inside with agave as a sweetener. The coffee was mildly sweet and thick. So different, yet so yummy! You can't find this anywhere else on the island (from what I've seen so far). I am coming again. This store promotes organic and healthy foods and drinks. They've got elixirs like kombucha (which I have not tried yet), and interesting bakery items like muffins, fruit bars, etc. They also sell local cookies and Honey Girl Organics (i.e. honey, lip blam, etc.). This was my second time eating/drinking at BlueTree and I must say I'm not too impressed. The first time I came here I ordered a lemonade and it was quite delicious as well as refreshing. Based on my first time I would've given this place 4 stars! My second experience was not as pleasant as the first. I was craving an acai bowl so I decided to go down to BlueTree to satisfy my craving. Unfortunately, that was not a wise decision. I ordered the BlueTree acai bowl and I had it to go, my order took about 10 minutes for it to come out. Mind you, no one ordered before me and people after me got their items first. When my ordered was called I saw that they had put the acai bowl in a bowl instead of a to-go container. I let the baristas know I wanted this to go. Instead of trying to separate the granola and banana so it doesn't get soggy from the acai, the barista dumped it all together mixing everything. I wanted to have a crunchy fresh acai bowl what I got instead was a soggy bowl of acai. Not only was it soggy there were no strawberries in my acai bowl! At the end of the bowl (I did spend $7 on a small) I tasted something sour and I am now wondering if I should worry about getting the runs!..:( I'm hoping today's disappoint is a fluke in the establishment's normal procedures and maybe next time I decide to go back I will have a better experience. I work near Blue Tree Cafe so I was excited to try out this new little spot for lunch. First impressions: It's clear that this cafe is still new--menu board is not finished, lots of training happening, etc. However, the staff is all ultra friendly, so it's easy to look past these details (for now). As of my visit, their lunch options are pretty limited. A few pre-made salads and sandwiches, as well as some munchies like chips, cookies, and other pastries. I ended up getting the spicy kale salad and a vanilla latte. I also sampled a green tee shortbread cookie. Everything was very tasty--lots of great flavors! I really appreciate the healthy vibe and options available here as well as the friendly service. I am curious to see how this cafe progresses over the next few months! read more

This is a five star review for quality of product and cafe. However, the atmosphere got really creepy on my visit. It really has nothing to do with the sexual preference of the young men working there. However, having a bunch of 19 year old young men who were clearly demonstrating they are out of the closet types display obnoxious behavior seemed a bit unprofessional. For example, two of the young men where chasing each other around with a broom when I was in the shop. Yelling and giggling like a couple of school children. After, flamboyantly playing cat and mouse, they stopped a few feet in front of where I was enjoying my coffee and suddenly locked eyes with each other, fluttering their lids and glaring at one another with puppy eyes. If this is the atmosphere that you value then your rating may have more stars. I've also considered, would I have the same reaction if the two were male and female. Yes, I would feel the same way since this juvenile behavior seemed second to creating an enjoyable atmosphere for the customer. The guy that works here is extremely rude. I know it wasn't just ONE bad day. I guess you have to tell them you are half deaf AND not feeling well as soon as you get to the counter or they will treat you differently. Same if you don't tip even if you are just grabbing the smallest container of overpriced food. The service you get is mediocre. I come a few times every week or so and the tone is always condescending. I can appreciate the fact that this establishment is somewhat environmentally friendly with the REUSE movement, but what I do NOT understand is why they would use UNWASHED mason jars. Waited at the counter and was the only person waiting for about a minute the male worker was preoccupied facing toward the back counter. The workers are perky, personable, and very knowledgeable. - Hipster point #2: It doesn't get much more hipster than the lovely bike art on the wall. Like literally. There are two real bikes hanging on their wall for decoration! lllllooooooooveeeee!! - Smoothie: Can't remember the name of the smoothie, but it had pineapples and coconut milk in it! All I remember was that it was BOMB. So healthy tasting and very light. - Parking is free w/ validation before 5pm. - Price: On the pricey side, but I'll be coming back, regardless. That's telling you something, because I'm pretty money-savvy. - Hipster point #3: They've gone paperless! Get your receipt e-mailed to you! Plus, your card gets saved in their system so that you don't have to re-enter your e-mail address every time you buy something! - Since Blue Tree Cafe is part of the Aoki Group and linked up w/ Doraku, I'm pretty sure the food it made in the Doraku kitchen! I thought I saw the cooks coming out of Doraku and bringing food into Blue Tree. And yup, love Doraku too, so I trust the cooks. If it isn't obvious, I'm definitely a fan of Blue Tree Cafe! I'm a fan of this place! Cute atmosphere to grab a drink and catch up with friends. I haven't tried their actual food like their vegan pasta and sandwiches, so I can't speak on behalf of that...but I did try a scone and a smoothie! Upon entering this cute hipster decorated cafe, I immediately knew this is a place I would want to go again. I ordered the Tropical Midori with kale! The Tropical Midori consists of papaya, pineapple, and either kale or spinach...I chose kale. This was my first time trying a "green smoothie," and I was not disappointed, it was amazing! I want to come here again and again just to try the different smoothies because they all sounded amazing. I also tried a little bit of my friend's vegetarian sweet potato chili, it was really good! However, I will stick to my smoothie. We tried the $4 strawberry scone. A little too expensive for the little fist size scone (and my fist is tiny). As I eagerly awaited Russle M.'s UYE at Doraku the other night, I found myself with some time to kill. I know that there is a CMYE coming up, but oh well...why not check this place out now! First, I must day that the decor is really cool. Definitely achieved "cool coffehouse swagger" on this one. next, the Staff is really helpful. the barista running the show welcomed me and asked if this was my first time visiting. HECKS YEAH! She offered a quick rundown on the menu. First thing I opted for was the Coffee Float. Hot or iced Americano, served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. YUMMMMMM As I stopped to take a few instagram pics (I'm such a nerd!), she offered to let me sample some of their Kambucha. Best scone I've had in *cough*18*cough* years. So good, was raving about how good it was to the hubs--"you should get one, go, go get one!"--and not sharing, so he decided to get one for himself. Too late--they sold the last one! So my best tip for you is to 1) GET THE SCONE!! and 2) get there early enough to snag one.
