We came here for an early dinner last Wednesday right after my root canal in Santa Barbara. Since I couldn't really chew, I ordered sides of sauteed spinach and coconut ginger rice. I enjoyed both although the spinach was definitely oily. I didn't taste the ginger in the rice. My husband ordered their almond crusted trout with green beans and rice (in the menu it stated scalloped potatoes) and he enjoyed it. The trout was huge and the prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity (27 dollars) for today's fish items. If you wanted to split the meal, it's an additional 3 dollars and that's enough food for two people. My husband gave me some of his fish to try and he was stuffed afterwards. They provide sour dough bread freshly baked if you want it. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and the service impeccable. We were checked on probably 6 times by 3 different people and some of the people looked like models. The music was tasteful and they played a mix of 50's, 60's and 70's hit songs including the Beatles. I was hoping to come back for another meal when my tooth felt better after the root canal but the very next day, there was a flooding in Santa Barbara so we went somewhere else for take out instead. The restaurant is cute outside and on a very charming street with nice white Spanish style buildings. I definitely recommend this place if you happen to be in Santa Barbara. My wife and I stopped here on our day 1 bar crawl in Santa Barbara. We sat on their 2nd floor outside deck on a perfect SB sunny day watching the surf and boats...it doesn't get better than this. Jack was our server, and bartender I believe, as it was a midweek and midday. I called him Shaq as he's super tall and friendly. We ordered a cucumber mojito and a Kentucky mule. Both cocktails were well made. We ordered two dishes to share, the spicy Avalon sushi roll and crispy calamari. Both were fresh and flavorful. We had a real good experience at blue water. Great walkable location across the water/pier. Recommend the clam chowder and wedge salad (the bread was a 10+!). Crab legs were a little mushy and the swordfish was over cooked. Only took a bite of the swordfish and the waiter was kind enough to let manager know. She came to our table to apologize and took care of the concern. Beautiful restaurant and wide variety on the menu for seafood and landlubbers alike. There is also a kids menu which is always a plus for us. Pricing is as can be expected for Santa Barbara and right across Stearns Wharf. The food was fine and the service was friendly. The reason for the mediocre rating was our server who I specifically told I had dietary restrictions. I ordered chilled lobster and a side of grilled asparagus. After an extensive conversation on what I could and couldn't have and her giving guidance on what could be modified, my lobster arrived on top of cocktail sauce. This after I mentioned I couldn't eat anything with oils or sauces and just plain grilled or steamed. I always feel like people with dietary restrictions have the responsibility to make the right choices when ordering, and I thought I did, but I also thought she had an understanding of my request after discussing it. In the end, I could have probably asked for a replacement with no sauce, but I didn't, and probably should have. I just ate the little of the top portion that didn't touch the sauce. The experience here was pretty okay but the food and service was pretty underwhelming. I liked the location and the view, as well as the interior design. The food was not bad, but also not great - pretty bland. We had the Manhattan style clam chowder, lobster roll and the calamari steak. Flavors were pretty bland and dry, but edible. We came during lunch time on a Saturday and it was quite empty, and yet, it would take a very long time for our server to take our order, bring the food and to close us out - they were all (including what looked like to be the manager) standing by the bar area in a group playing around. Second time coming here and it was not as good as the first time. I called to make a reservation and the young man on the phone was rude. I asked if we could get a table upstairs with a view he said they have over 100 people coming in and he wouldn't be able to get us a seat upstairs. When we arrived the man I had spoke to wasat the host stand. I told him my name and that we had a reservation and they couldn't find the reservation. I asked again about sitting upstairs and they said we would have to wait 30 min. We ended up finding a seat at the bar upstairs on our own and the bartenders took great care of us. We had a lunch reservation right at 11:30 when they open. Don't get there early they will not check you in until 11:30. The staff is All very nice. They offered us indoor or outdoor seating. It was a gorgeous day so we selected outdoor seating. They put us at the table right at the front of the balcony and we had a fabulous view. The space is a bit tight though so if you're on the larger side it may be hard to squeeze into the area. I'm a big girl and barely fit in it. The food here is delicious. I had the scallops with grits and the sand dabs. Everything was perfectly cooked and the portions were generous. I'd love to cone back and try more on their extensive menu as I had a hard time selecting only one dish. read more

Tried this place out for the first time and I must say this place was ok . The vibes are great perfect place to take someone on a date especially since the view you get is a nice ocean view of Santa Barbra beach right across . Food was good I had the San Francisco Cioppino with linguine pasta and my husband had the New York strip. My husband he enjoyed his steak and love that the sauce they used for the steak was coated with the potatoes on the bottom. The waitress said that the steak was suppose to come with fries on the side but never got it which was ok . The San Francisco Cioppino was pretty good , I never had a dish like that before so I wouldn't know how it's suppose to taste but I love the variety of seafood that I got with that dish would probably order that one again the next time I come back. Now the crab cake was alright it didn't give any hit of crab but it definitely taste like some oysters was mixed in there i don't know if I'll order that one again it felt a bit doughy and could be a little bit more crispy. Food first - the chowder is delicious, very rich - like it's-half-butter rich! Dip their amazing sourdough bread into it and you pretty much have a meal. And unlike a lot of places, their "cup" of soup is actually pretty big. The fish in the fish and chips was delicious and had a nice delicate batter, but the "chips" were only adequate. Not bad, just not great. The wedge salad was excellent. My wife was ecstatic that they offered a half Louie salad with a cup of chowder - two of her favorites and a great combo offering - she loved both. The service was nice if not a bit stiff, like "we're trying to be a fancy place, so keep it serious". The atmosphere is nice and the view of the beach and ocean is a plus. Bottom line...we'll go back when it's warmer and sit on the roof patio and sample some more of the local seafood. Actual ranking is 4.5. read more

I am a bit torn with this review. I have been to this location in the past and enjoyed the previous menu items. I was upset to see that most had been removed and that the menu was reduced recently. Second, their AC has been broken for 3 summers now and although this is not that big of a deal considering that Santa Barbara gets great weather, we happened to go up during a mini heatwave. The lack of air and ventilation made our stop a little bit intolerable. We ate fast just to get out of there. That said, what food we did eat was delicious and our waiter, a nice young man was friendly and very professional as was the rest of the team. Service was not top notch, the waiter who served us ignored pretty much most people on our party but only talked to our teenage girls. Table wasn't clean in time before more food is coming up... 2/5 Ambiance is fine... Clean at least and fit for a seafood restaurant. 4/5. We visited Bluewater a couple months ago which came highly recommended. We didn't have the experience we expected but Sarah and her staff more than made up for it. We were invited back and took them up on their offer. Let's just say this time around they absolutely did not disappoint. Our server Grace was exceptional, the manager on duty made sure we had everything we needed, the view from our table couldn't have been better. And the food? We had the New York steak medium rare with the blue cheese butter and it came out better than expected paired perfectly with a nice glass of red wine recommended by Grace. The servers here r all spunky young folk and Maddie helped us. We ordered the cooked oysters, the halibut, and seabass. This time around we chose Bluewater Grill, which is located a short walk from Stearn's Wharf. This restaurant is beautifully decorated and very eye-catching especially with the replica of the lighthouse to welcome guests in. We were seated upstairs on the patio. The tables were placed closely together, but fortunately for us it wasn't busy. The food was tasty and freshly prepared. The only complaint was the Crab Cake appetizer. For the price we paid, the portion was very small. It definitely wasn't worth the price. My son didn't care for the Fish and Chips as much as other places. However, I did enjoy the Lobster Roll.
