Two time visitor, went there for lunch yesterday around 2:00pm, Counter Help never said thank you, no eye contact either. Two male employee's, probably the owners, never greeted me or even said hello. When I finished, I walked my basket to the counter trash can, one of the males just took it from my hand and dumped it in the trash. Again, didn't thank me for the effort and never asked me how my meal was. I don't get it, I'm in the customer service business and we bend over backwards to make sure our customers know we appreciate them. Two time visitor.....there will not be a third! read more

Been coming here for lunch for awhile. Owner/manager/order takers are all very friendly. Have tried the egg salad and rueben sandwiches....both very good. Bread on rueben is always crisp...never wet. My go to lunch is chefs salad w/ranch dressing. Tons of salad w/2 hard boiled eggs, tomatoes, and cucumbers. Ranch dressing is outstanding. Great neighborhood vibe. read more

The thing to know before you go into Bluffington is that the menu won't blow you away wit orgiinalty (for some:weirdness) like nearby Wisma's might. And the decor and concept won't floor you. But the food and service are exactly what they need to be: solid. The place fills up at lunch because, frankly, they make a top-notch sandwich. Best tuna & egg salad on north shore! Expensive but delicious

I've been going to Bluffington's since it opened when I was in grade school. Every time I visit home I stop by and pick up lunch for the family. We love their chicken salad, whether it's Doug's Club or the chicken melt... absolutely the best. You can buy the chicken and egg salad by half-pound containers (great for sandwiches at home!) The chicken caesar wrap and Sunny's Salad are also two of my favs. When I really want a treat - I get a chocolate milkshake (vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce.) 20+ years later it's still one of my favorite lunch spots. read more

Always busy at lunch time, Bluffington's Cafe is a great local place for food and sandwiches. The reuben is absolutely one of my favorites - you won't be disappointed. Make sure you ask for the potato salad instead of a bag of chips - it's homemade and I haven't had potato salad that good in years. Very much a neighborhood place with an English decor, you can't help but feel you're having lunch at a friends house. Outdoor seating in the summer too. Love it! read more

These reviews are absolutely correct. The menu is not off the wall and exciting like the places run by the chef, but it is tasty. I really enjoyed the roast beef. I had some terrible chicken wings at Wisma, so by comparison this place is rating a little higher than it might. The British decor extends into the restroom, which is wooden and well decorated. About the only problem in general is getting to the pop machine as you will have to squeeze past people ordering or sitting. read more

Missed my train back into Chicago by 5 min and the next one was in 2 hours. Walked around downtown Lake Bluff, and Bluffington's Cafe seemed to be the only thing open besides the nail salon, and it was a little too early for a manicure. What a great place to eat! The food is great and the staff is so nice. Even during a busy lunch rush they had the food done in no time.

I've been coming here since I moved out here two years ago, and I stopped by to pick up some lunch today, realizing that I love it just as much today as I did the first time I walked in.. possibly even more! There is always a steady flow of customers but what's great is that the staff is always such a pleasure to see and talk to, and food always comes out freshly prepared with little waiting time! My go-to is the grilled salmon salad! It is hearty, filling, and super tasty! Although I always order the same thing, I know that all of the other items on the menu are just as delicious! Quaint spot, and a nice place to have in downtown Lake Bluff. The coziness is what buoys the rating; the quality and value are what bring it down. I stopped in for lunch, after deciding to pass up on The Otherdoor. I ordered the mushroom/spinach quiche, plus a double cappuccino. The quiche was 90% egg, 9% veggies, and 1% cheese-- a rather bland and unappetizing ration. I wouldn't eat the quiche again even if it was free. The cappuccino was surprisingly good, despite coming out of an automated machine-- definitely worth the $3. My lunch companion had the chicken salad, which was decent, but could have been improved if served with better bread. Overall, it was ok for a local no-frills eatery, and worth a second visit. read more

Great sandwiches. The menu offer plenty of variety to choose from and their coleslaw is a favorite. The downside? Price. No, it isn't ridiculously expensive, but you don't exactly get a lot of food for the price tag. Then again, this is Lake Bluff... So everything is more expensive. It also doesn't take a former chef or any significant preparation to take a few slices of meat, cheese, veggies and put them between two slices of bread.
