I've been coming to BluFish for years -- genuinely probably over a hundred times at this point -- and it's always been one of my favorite spots in the area. The food is consistently fresh, beautifully plated, and well-balanced. It's one of those places I recommend to anyone who visits from out of town. That said, this last visit left me really thrown. I'm not sure if the staff has changed recently or if this was just a one-off, but the woman who was working the front that night had such an unnecessarily cold energy. She didn't smile, barely said hello, and gave the impression that we were interrupting something by arriving. We had a reservation and were right on time, but when we checked in, she just looked down at the list, sighed, and waved vaguely toward a table without even walking us over. No explanation, no welcome, no acknowledgment -- it was the first time I've ever felt unwelcome here. Our server was great, and once we were seated everything felt more normal again. The sushi was excellent, as always, and the meal itself was exactly what I've come to expect from BluFish. But that initial tone from the hostess lingered longer than I wanted it to. I'll absolutely keep coming back -- the quality has never been in question -- but I do hope the energy at the front starts to feel more like it used to. Outstanding customer service, and a diverse and interesting menu makes for an almost downtown like sushi experience up in the suburbs. Two important notes. One is that they have a sister restaurant in another nearby suburb, so if you are trying to make reservations, make sure you are reserving at the right one. A hidden gem in Plaza del Prada. Just west of Costco in Glenview but tucked away in the southwest corner of the plaza. Beautiful décor and very calming environment. Everything smelled fresh and clean. I usually try to dine for sushi on Wednesdays because there's usually a shipment that very day. I did start with a Blufish martini with Beluga vodka, blue curaçao lychee liqueur and lychee juice, smooth and delightful. For the appetizer we started with Sautéed shishito peppers that was seasoned and spicy, delicious. My girlfriend had the Blazing hamachi roll short, a perfect size for her. I thoroughly enjoyed the 9 piece sashimi platter that came with a house salad and miso soup. I'm so glad I didn't get the 12 piece because the pieces were huge and it's basically double the size of other restaurants and I was right about deliveries. The fish was super fresh and fabulous. I enjoyed every little bite! I love the beautifully tall booths that give you more privacy and the restaurant was spotless as was the restrooms. The server that evening was very pleasant and friendly and he was very knowledgeable about the menu and he didn't mind we were lingering over our recent dramas. Blufish is a hot spot for sushi in the burbs and with good reason! We love it here. The food is always fresh and delicious. They also remodeled inside and while some of the decor looks pretty garish imo, I still think it's def an upgrade and some ppl might enjoy the way it looks. So one thing to always remember is to CALL TO MAKE RESERVATIONS. I thought I'd made reservations on Opentable, but apparently this location only takes reservations by phone and I'd made reservations at the wrong location by accident. I wish this location would go back on Opentable as it's def the easiest and quickest way to make resos. Thankfully, they still let us sit pretty quickly. I was starvin Marvin and I told our server that and he brought out all our food at rapid fire speed. That server man RULES!! I wish I'd gotten his name, but he had a European accent, if that helps lol he deserves major props that's fsho. I'm giving BluFish 2 stars. Maybe I'm being too nice. But I was hopeful for our visit last night. It has good reviews, and everyone there looked to be having a great time. The ambiance is really nice and trendy. But things went wrong from the start. There was a wait for everything. Now in today's restaurant climate, that's normal, so I won't knock it too much. But while waiting at the bar for a table, I ordered a drink, but while ordering, this very rude woman stole the bartender and ordered a plethora of things. Shame on the bartender for even acknowledging her while I'm MID ORDER. (Note: they had a nice selection of Japanese whiskey). We finally get to our table and there's a little wait to see our waiter. We put some appetizers in and wait some more. 20min later they come out. Scallops and shumai. The scallops were.....small to say the least. They were dime size. Really silly. Especially for a nice appearing place like Bluefish. I would've just taken them off the menu if they can't get traditionally larger scallops. Shumai however, was very good at least. We put our dinner orders in, and waited....another 20min at least. Waiter comes back and says my partner's order of tuna was out for the night. Need to order something else. Another 10min later, the food comes, and my order is completely wrong. After sitting there for over an hour, this place was a bust. In hindsight, the waiter, who definitely looked green, didn't write any of our orders down. I know, I know, the restaurant industry is struggling with staff and pay, but if you're not a pro yet, write your orders down! We decided to just leave after that, mostly hungry. We didn't have time sit around another hour to get food corrected. The waiter was very apologetic about it and owned up to the mistake, and we just paid for what we actually consumed. Total bust. But I'm sure that's not an experience normally had from Blufish. Everyone was enjoying themselves. Maybe the consistency is off and we got the very short end of the skewer. We certainly won't be going back, but I guess I won't discourage anyone else from trying them out. read more

Had a great time here! Went with a couple of friends on a Thursday evening, and it was pretty full. I would definitely recommend calling ahead for a reservation. We were seated in a nice, clean booth and soon as we got there, and we didn't wait long to get our drinks. They were strong and tasty, and one was good to go with the dinner. We each got a few rolls each, and some appetizers. The truffle yuzu salmon was one of the best things I've ever tasted, and the sauce was incredible. Will definitely come back for more. My only complaint is that because they had the front windows doors and patio windows open, and it was a steamy day, the mosquitos got in and I got bitten a few times, despite sitting inside. I definable would say it's a cute place for a date but i can also say it gets a bit loud in there so if youre looking for something quiet, I wouldn't recommend. Came here with my family and they were great. The staff was very nice and accommodating as we ate past 2 pm which is when they closed. I also happy to see how they were scrubbing down the booths making me feel that this place was making the effort to keep the place clean and stop the spread of covid.
