I do not know how you cannot give Blunch less than 5 stars. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was perfect, and the staff they we're like old friends. On my girlfriend and I's trip through the Northeast we stayed in Boston to visit a friend for a few days. On New Year Eve's Day it started to snow buckets that we haven't seen in years. However, we decided to go out and get some lunch. So we Yelp'ed a local eatery, and Blunch came up as what's hot. It was a quick walk from our hotel, and tucked away on a street corner across for the hospital like I remember little delis being from growing up in New York. And let me tell you it was perfect. We were at first the only people there, and the people treated us like old friends. I think the lady that owns the place actually talked to us, laid out recommendations about what was delicious, talked about the weather, and took care of us like she knew us from the past. The experience was delightful. And the food, oh the food. It was great. I had a Black Forest Ham Panini with asparagus, a sweet dressing, and something else that was a special and I still cannot believe it came from a corner shop! My girlfriend had her staple egg & sausage bagel, but the eggs were huge and she never put it down once! With fair trade or organic coffee in hand (I forget which one it was now) we sat down on the table top bar on the window near the street and watched as scores or regulars came in. And each that came in, the staff new their name, their life, their story. It is a perfect local experience. So take it from this traveler all you Bostonians, if you have not eaten at Blunch yet, you need to make it a New Year's priority! You will not be disappointed, especially if you get one of their extra large Chocolate Chip Cookies. Most moist, chocolate chip cookies the size of your hand you will ever have. These are not your stale hard grocery cookies, these are the cookies you by to end your day on a high note. Or celebrate finding Blunch! (Not so) best kept secret neighborhood joint of the South End. This is primarily a local sandwich place - I can only speak about the eggwiches, but they are always solid. Different consistency from the competitors - more fluffy and light than usual. Fun with the spicy aioli sauce (free!). Chocolate chip cookies here are dangerously good. How do those little treats stay so moist and have gooey chips, even in late afternoon? Who knows? Who cares? Beware it's busy during lunch hour with a line sometimes out the door- either call ahead with your order, or if you're just visiting the block (like me), come after the rush is over. Blunch is a tiny shop on busy street corner across from Boston medical. I went around lunchtime but there was a pretty long line, a lot of people had ordered ahead and just picked up which is what I will do next time. I like that it's pretty cheap for a sizable and good quality sandwich. It's most of the customers are medical students so that's also pretty cool. I will definitely come here again because the food was good, it was cheap, and especially if you are ordering ahead it'll do in a pinch. read more

Man, wow - provencal sandwich with chicken... The bread is phenomenal, with cashew pesto, goat cheese, artichokes... I love this sandwich so much I want to take it behind the middle school and get it pregnant. I trekked from the North End on 12/31 in 20 degree weather to eat here, based on the reviews--and I was not disappointed. This place is cozy and warm, and the staff is super friendly. I order the frittata sandwich with cheddar and tomato, and asked to have it spicy. In the absence of decaf coffee, I ordered a chai latte, slightly sweet. The perfection that was in front of me about 5 minutes later made almost made me tear up. Crispy roll, soft, light egg, and a delicious house spicy mayo concoction, along with a perfect hot latte. She even "topped it off" for my walk back to the metro. If you find yourself in the South End, please stop in and give this place a try. Blunch's veggie burger "the Boca" is hands down the best in the area--make it spicy, you'll be glad you did. The "Provencal" is another savory veg winner. For meat-eaters, you can't go wrong with the meatloaf sammie with roasted tomatoes, provolone and pickles called "the loaf." Atmosphere=Warm and Welcoming. Chocolate chip cookies=Unbeatable. 4.5 real-life star. Pretty much as good as it gets as far as sandwiches in Boston go. "The Beef" is quite tasty - nice balance of meaty goodness, salty cheese, and acidic onions. Regular here now for breakfast take-away. Great choice of breakfast bagels and sandwiches. Try the frittata with various add-ons. I usually go with mild sausage - eggs nice and fluffy and its all freshly made, and made with a smile and personal attitude. The clerk always asks your name for the receipt, but talks to you by name even if the place is empty. Place is nice, everything with a personal touch and an acute awareness of saving the environment and not wasting. Definitely a plus if you are in the area. read more

My only complaint would be that it can take awhile for them to make the sandwiches - especially during the lunch time rush. This is a tiny sandwich shop opposite BMC in the South End that was featured on the Food Network. I've had their eggwiches, sandwiches, and cookies - everything is delicious, you just can't go wrong. Ones that I remember as being particularly excellent are the giving tree, the delovely (turkey is moist), and onion bagel eggwich. All are very filling. Chocolate chip cookie is very good, but not extraordinary. It's popular at lunchtime what with people coming over from the hospital, so it may be hard to find a seat then. Prices are fair and similar to other sandwich places but unlike other places, the quality here is consistent. Will definitely be back to try out more of their sandwich combos! read more

Delicious Zeppy's bagel with a BLT filling. Can't go wrong with that. Staff is very friendly and so were the customers inside. If I were paying a ridiculous mortgage/rent to live in the South End, I would be a regular here. We were visiting from CA and chatted up a couple of local diners on a hot morning. We sit inside, then decide to move outside, but it was too hot so we go back in. Then *poof* the a/c magically turns on. In fact, as a BU grad student, I think my goal is to try each sandwich before I graduate! If you're so lost and don't know what to get, the Bird is the signature sandwich. It has a special artichoke spread and the chicken is so tender and delicious! Of course, you must top off your meal with their chocolate chip cookie. Holy cow. It's better than Mrs. Fields cookies. The chocolate is so gooey and the weird thing is, the cookie is just room temperature! Mind blown. As a heads up, you might have to scope out a seat. Got one of their giant chocolate chip cookies and The Delovely sandwich. The sandwich was absolutely great. It was very simple with fresh veggies and meat. There isn't an overbearing amount of each ingredient that is put into the sandwich (just the right amt of dressing, veggies, and meat). You're able to taste everything, and when you do, the combination is amazing! The cookie (as you've seen in the pictures) look super fluffy and delicious, and they are! Just like the sandwich, there isn't one taste/flavor that is overbearing to the whole cookie (not too sweet, salty, baking-soda-tasting, dry, or bland). Small breakfast place around the corner. Finally made it to Blunch. I tried their Big Papi sandwich and one of their chocolate chip cookies. The sandwich was pressed and came out great, very tasty. We asked the woman wokring the counter what her favorite was, since she ended up being the owner she said they are like her babies, she can't pick a favorite. The chocolate chip cookie was amazing too, one of the the best I can remember having. After my date adn I split that we were still a little hungry. This little hole in the wall has been popular with my co workers long before Guy Fieri visited. It's a cute little sandwich/sweets shop that closely resembles Flour with a more reasonable price. The everything bagel BLTC was pretty delicious and was enough to fill me up. The chocolate chip cookies are melt in your mouth good with just the right amount of crispiness and softness. The crumble cake was moist and not overly sweet. Everything I've had was pretty decent and warrants another visit. However, DO NOT GO HERE DURING LUNCH TIME! We waited 40 min for our food (thus minus one star)! They definitely need to work on getting food out faster during the lunch time rush or they will be losing more customers. This place is amazing!! Get here at 10am sharp on Saturdays to get the chocolate chip cookies as they arrive fresh from the oven - I had to ask for a FORK! My kind fo cookie. Besides that, their "bagel-wichs" are life-changing. Walked to Blunch on a beautiful Saturday to get sandwiches for lunch. If picking up sandwiches, I suggest calling ahead because it was pretty crowded when we got there and we had to wait ~20 minutes for the sandwiches to be ready. There is probably only 8-10 seats in the entire place so it is a little too claustrophobic to eat here when crowded. We ordered the giving tree and the wilbur. We were very excited about both sandwiches, but a little disappointed upon eating them. Yelp photos made them look bigger than they actually were. Also, all of the sandwich ingredients were consolidated into the front half of the sandwich and not spread out evenly. So after eating half of the sandwich, there was really only bread left. I was on the way to the airport one morning and took my Sweetie out to breakfast as a thank you for driving me. We walked in and the owner/chef was giving a customer a specially made muffin, still warm from the oven. If that doesn't give you a good impression, I'm not sure what would. I ordered The Bird without tomatoes. Nikki, the owner/chef, the recommended that I put something else in the sandwich because I was having them leave the tomatoes out. Unsure of what to choose, she suggested a few options (all of which sounded great); I had marinated artichoke hearts replace my tomatoes, free of charge. If I lived slightly closer, I would go here with extreme frequency - all the sandwich options look amazing. The service is friendly and personal. One of the best places to get a quick lunch on the South End, especially for those at the BU medical campus. You just have to make sure you don't go at peak hours, especially during lunch, so that you're not waiting forever to get your sandwich made. But honestly, even if I have to wait 15 minutes, The Loaf (meatloaf sandwich) is DEFINITELY worth the wait. I've only had one other sandwich there before but I cannot remember what it was because The Loaf has blocked it out of my memory. Even if you're not a big fan of meatloaf (like me), this is not your typical meatloaf with ketchup your mom made for dinner. Order it. You will not be disappointed. The sweets are good as well, although I've only had small bites of things from my friends when they get it. Coffee is fairly strong and a great pick me up between studying, classes, etc. The workers are always super nice and friendly. The only downside I would say is that you can't use a credit card unless your bill is over 10 bucks. But everything is reasonably priced so that's kind of hard to do if you're not buying a bunch of sweets with your sandwich and coffee! read more

I bumped into this place online after looking for places to eat around where I worked and decided to give it a try for lunch one day. The menu isnt huge but it is full of flavor. I got the Big Papi sandwich which was amazing in my eyes. I loved the chipotle mayo (my new fav thing in the world!) and the french bread added to the yummyness of this sandwich. The shop is very small and the prices are kinda high but I enjoyed it so much I dont really mind paying a bit more for something I really enjoyed. I always went there after the lunch rush as I would hate to be packed in there with other people during rush hour since its across the street from Boston Medical Center. Its a cozy place with a good atmosphere and limited seating as well. Oh and parking is a pain too so just look around till you find something! read more

Oh how I wish there was a place like this in Coolidge Corner where I could become a regular. And this place had them too. The super friendly owner welcomed at least 3 people by name while I was eating there. And she asked one if he was having his usual. This is one of my lifelong goals is to love one sandwich and one restaurant enough to have a 'the usual'. However, with how delicious all 3 sandwiches I tried were (bird, giving tree...can't remember the 3rd), I think I would go crazy only eating one kind. Blunch is bomb! I had heard about it through diners drive in & dives, and really wanted to try it out! It's a nice little shop that doesn't fit many people but nonetheless the sandwiches are amazing! On triple D they tried the bird, which is what I had too, and it was amazing! Definitely did not disappoint! The chicken was very moist and the aoli tasted amazing! My friend had the Wilbur (with bacon, yum!)and that was really good too! Super saucy and has a little kick of spiciness from the aoli! I like it when sandwiches have a lot of sauce because it just tastes better (in my opinion)! Both sandwiches are amazing and I would definitely recommend trying it out! Simple, cozy, and features the best damn panini you've had to date. After almost missing Blunch's miniature storefront, my girlfriend and I wiggled around the tight space until we were ready to order. All the options were overwhelming, and the claustrophobic space and regulars who knew their orders definitely made me feel rushed. I quickly blurted out a sandwich with ingredients I knew I liked, and hoped for the best. Disappointingly, it wasn't the best. Honestly, I give the sandwich as a whole 2 out of 5 stars. However, I knew from my first bite that this was due to human error. Their bread, the crunch of the panini shell, even the level of char was spot on. Had the guts of the sandwich been different, I'm sure I would've walked out of there head over heels. What confirmed these suspicions was the lovely bite I had of my girlfriend's breakfast sandwich. Although it took about 10 minutes for them to make the sandwich -- you can really see how much effort goes into creating the homemade feeling when it comes to the sandwich. I split the cookie with my sister and it was like a second meal...just so buttery ! The choco-chips are high quality and the cookie itself was soft and moist. My only complaints are : 1) the lack of seating area (can only fit around 5 people) 2) The iced coffee was weak and not smooth or fresh tasting at all. I am not sure if I just got the end of the brew but it left much to be desired. In all, I was satisfied with my sandwich and service (although it definitely was slower than I expected) and found the infamous cookie to be worth the hype! I've been to Blunch numerous times since I started working in the area, and I have never been disappointed. I'm absolutely in love with the chocolate chip cookies, which I always manage to eat before I get my sandwich. I've had the Bird and the Loaf, and both were really great. There was also a day where I went in on my lunch break to find that the special of the day was a chicken quesadilla, and naturally, I could not resist. This was a thick quesadilla, completely stuffed to the brink with chicken, black beans, a phenomenal pico de gallo, and the other fixings. It was absolutely great. However, I have not tried the breakfast sandwiches, so hopefully I can get myself out there in the morning some time for that... On top of the food, the service is really friendly. This place is AMAZING for sandwiches... I usually get one of their bagel sammies and add egg, which is always delic, especially with their homemade boursin cheese! DO NOT, however, make a quick stop here for a coffee drink. Even if it's on the way from the bus stop to class... I know it seems convenient, but beware! I went today for a soy decaf latte and left 20 mins later with a lukewarm skim latte, forgotten for 17 mins by the staff. I know they're busy, but if that happened at Starbucks I would have at LEAST left with a coupon for a free coffee after having to wait so long, and a drink that actually matched what I ordered (and paid extra for!).
