As a vegetarian, I never really gave it a try, but I finally did after seeing they offered tamago nigiri. I'm so glad I did! A hole in the wall spot that my sister introduced me to. It may look a little sketch with bars on the outside windows, but it looks better on the inside. Remember, don't judge the book by it's cover. The owner is really friendly and they are quick with getting orders out. It must be from just being busy frequently, they got the rhythm down. It was also really nice to see frequent customers come thru while I was there. If you're staying busy with the local customers and you're able to maintain business through the crazy construction on Dillingham, you must have something good going on. Our go-to sushi is the Kiss of Fire - California roll with a nice helping of their tasty Spicy Ahi. I gotta say, I am not a California roll person, but, this is yummy! It balances nicely with their Spicy Ahi that has a nice subtle kick... I guess that's why it's called Kiss of Fire! My co-worker got the breakfast bento when he gave this place a try and he said it was pretty good. Price point is on par with other sushi spots. So happy this place is still around. It's been my first time back this year. Their spicy ahi is always a go to. I always get their spicy ahi nigiri but this time I got their bowl. Never had it before and I wasn't disappointed. It doesn't actually come in a bowl but in a plate. There is a bed of rice under the layer of lettuce. It's topped with the spicy ahi and cucumber. On the side you get wasabi and ginger with a packet of kikkomon shoyu. The spicy ahi isn't spicy to begin with but it's the type of heat that lingers in your mouth and builds up. But still absolutely can't stop setting it and craving it the next day. They do both take out and indoor dinning. They have a lot of grab and go snacks, icecream, two fridges full of drinks. They even offer party platters at reasonable prices. Their menu is very extensive and full of sushi but they do have meat and breakfast options as well. During work days, this is my favorite lunch break place to go! My coworkers tease me, because when we decide on where to go for lunch, I'm always yelling, "Blvd Snack!" And my coworkers say, "you not tired of this place?" And I say with confidence! "No!" I can eat here everyday. This little mom and pop store is my casual Japanese eat and go place, especially if I'm on a time budget to get back to work. What I usually do is call in my order and then I give them some time, and then I will leave my office to head over, because they do take some time to cook as each order is made to order. My ultimate favorite is their Chicken Katsu Donburi ($8.95). So delicious, actually now that I think about it, it's my favorite place to go for Katsu Don, it's always given nice & hot (temperature hot), the taste is delicious, and the portion size is pretty good! I try not to eat too much during lunch break, because I may have a Kanak Attack, so only on some occasions I'll treat myself by adding on the Kiss of Fire (Spicy Ahi over California Shrimp Tempura) $9.95, but I kindly ask them to sub the shrimp for California Roll since I don't eat shrimp, and they are nice to substitute it. I enjoy coming here, because it's clean, prices are pretty reasonable, the staff are very hard working and very kind (the man even hands me my food if I'm sitting in the restaurant), and the food are fresh! I love supporting them, because I see them every day super early in the morning working so hard, never taking a break. I am so grateful for them, because they allow me delicious Japanese food to help sustain me at work in the afternoon. They truly make my work days a blessed and happy day! Got my katsu fix again today. I love everything that comes with the katsu bento. Generous amount of chicken katsu cooked just right every time. Katsu sauce is good, tonkatsu sauce. Not da overly sweet watery kind. Even the rice is good lol. Cooked perfectly, not hard and dry like some other fast food places. Bento comes with great sides which includes mini spring roll, edamame, potato salad, pickled veggie, and a piece of shrimp katsu. There are not a lot of food options in walking distance and I was surprised when I found out that it was a sushi shop. I had thought it was going to be some dirty old convenience store that serviced construction workers and hostess bar chicks. I was excited at the prospect of not eating boiled peanuts and a stale chick-o-stick for lunch! Although I could have gone for a rock hard Big Hunk bar. The microwave can do wonders! I ordered six pieces ebi nigiri ($2.65 for 3 pieces), shinko maki and cucumber ume maki ($1.45 each). Blvd Snack is a step down from Kozo or Genki so don't expect amazing sushi. It's edible but definitely not amazing in any way, shape or form. I'd say this is where you grab food if you're stuck at HCC and don't have a lot of time to find food elsewhere. I Work a little down the road so I come here pretty regularly with my coworkers for lunch. Don't let the outward appearance and other stores around it fool you, this mom and pop shop definitely delivers. I usually get one of the hand rolls. The spicy crab and spicy ahi are my favorites. Maybe because they're not afraid to make them pretty spicy. They use imitation crab, but for $1.75, its not a bad deal. If you get the non-spicy one, its only $1. The spicy ahi roll is a bit more on the pricy side at $3.50, but it tastes pretty fresh and definitely better than a 7-11 hand roll. Hand rolls range from $1 to $4, which isn't a bad deal for the quality they offer. They also offer standard sushi rolls (the kiss of fire or spider roll are my favorites) and some rice bowls all for around $10 All sushi on their menu is made to order, so expect maybe a 5 minute wait with your order. Parking is located just to the left in the small lot and is shared with the other businesses nearby. Overall, a great place to grab lunch for around $10. It is definitely a small shop...we decided to try their Udon set and the spicy ahi nigiri. The Udon set comes with cold udon noodles and the usual dipping sauce, 4 pieces of their spicy ahi roll...and interestingly...a stick of imitation crab, seaweed salad and some taegu. The spicy ahi roll is actually plain but she gave me a little container of the spicy sauce to put on myself. I thought that was a good way to appease both the spicy and non-spicy customers. Heehee, well if the nice lady who helped me is the owner, she was Korean so that would explain the Korean touch. The spicy ahi nigiri was pretty good, it was 3 pieces for $3.65. I love Boulevard Snack! I used to work down the road and would sometimes risk walking over during my short break just to have some of their delicious sushi. The shop is always super clean and the staff are always incredibly friendly. They have really good hours too, and are sometimes open on major holidays (but I try not to go, cause I think they deserve a break, too). They have a pretty great selection of sushi and bento, and they even have bubble tea. Everything is priced really really affordably and is always very fresh and delicious. Take out or dine in and you can always phone your order in a few minutes before you get there. One time they got my phone-in incorrect but it was hardly a problem to fix it.
