Reason why I' rating it 3 stars is because it doesn't feel safe any time after 8 pm. The people that come in after 7/8 pm are way too young and rowdy versus the older mellow crowd from the late afternoons. The vibe goes from mellow to club-like. Last night we showed up around 6 ish and since we've been there a few times now, we knew that we weren't staying long - to avoid the party crowds. And sure enough, we left immediately after hearing some men that looked like they just got out of prison talk to other people like they wanted to start a fight, and were yelling at women calling them sluts. They really need security there. Not the place you want to end up at in the evening if you want to have a good time. If you go, I say get there early to be able to relax, and drinks are much more affordable here. The bartender Michelle is super nice and she's usually there. read more

Cheap beer and, usually, good folks, however I won't be returning ever again. Last night a very drunk young man backed into me and was quite aggressive and unreasonable, even though I was very polite and gave him all my info. He refused to provide me with his information, be that license, registration, or insurance, even though I graciously gave him all of my info. He let me give him my information, and ran off back into the bar. Well, it was because it wasn't his car! I went inside, distraught at the state of my vehicle, to fetch the people I was there with, only to find this combative young man playing kissy with the girl working door, who proceeded to verbally accost me and refuse to give me her name or information. It's a shame I won't ever be returning, but if they're willing to keep people like that on staff who let their drunk boyfriends ruin their patrons evenings, and cars, then I suppose the rumors about Boars Crossin are true. Cool little dance club in Carlsbad. Cover is usually $5 and it's very spacious. I always have fun when I go. 4 stars due to only having 2 bathrooms to share with 100s of people. Line is usually super long and security needs to direct traffic. Other than that, drinks are great. read more

I am going with chris s.'s statement of "Ah, the Whore's Crossing." I have never seen so many skanky women in my life. They were 40ish and wearing really short dresses and danced with their legs apart. I didn't want to look to much because I was afraid I might see something very scary. The women with large breasts were just about falling out. Then there was the men...the weird creepy kind that start to dance near the skanky women in hopes that maybe the skank will hook up with them in the bathroom. It's quite a scene...it was great people watching. There was a live band that was pretty decent and they have a back patio that you can smoke at but you can't bring your drinks out there and they close the patio down early for some reason. They charge a cover....for what I don't know. There are pool tables. Oh...not everyone was a perv or a ho...there were normal people there too and I don't think there is a lot of options in the area. While celebrating a friend's birthday in Carlsbad, my friends and I stumbled upon Boar Cross'n. We were looking for a not-too-crowded spot to hang out and have a few drinks and this fit the bill. There was plenty of space and, although the bar became more crowded as the night went on, we never felt overwhelmed by too many people. The pool tables immediately caught our eye and we settled in for several games. There was also a small dance floor but it wasn't very heavily used while we were there. Sprung Monkey was playing...woo hoo! the club was bigger than I had imagined..it took me most of the night to figure out that one side was lined with a mirror (i really thought there was another room over there and when I couldn't find a way to get to that room I touched the mirror...hmmm too much fun in hillcrest that day!) the sound system was rocking! can't comment on drinks or bartender...didn't drink here... no backstage...they roped off a VIP area for us...haha...it was actually quite ammusing. there was a separate-ish area that had pool tables etc...i peaked in... after the bands were done...the club turned dance club...and a bit on the ghetto side...but i had fun! i wouldn't go out of my way to come here...but it was enjoyable =) they have a parking lot... the toilet wouldn't stop flushing...that was interesting peeing in that! read more

Consistently the Tuesday $5 Shot and Beer special is great! Not many people come. Not sure if it's because no one knows about it or they aren't into Boar's vibe. However I will only go on the weekdays because on the weekends, they're starting to charge cover, which isn't necessarily a big deal, but the bouncers are RIDICULOUS! Not in a good way. Look buddy, this is Boar's Head, not the Four Seasons, so please leave the jerkiness at home. If you decide to come on a day where they are charging cover, they only accept cash, so bring some green or be prepared to fork over some green (there's an ATM inside). I went back and forth between three and four stars but being one of the venues in town that has been going as long as I can attend concerts is still going strong. Four stars is for the great bands and support for local bands they always have. I am huge into the local music scene and over the 15 plus years I have probably attended this venue the most. Yes, even more then belly up! WHY? Because its free cover before nine which I don't mind showing up when the place is still empty, Im in my 30s and prefer to sit out on the patio for the dollar beers before Nine then go inside for the bands once the cheap beer buzz has kicked in :) Baller on a budget! The bad is if its not a band night its usually a lot of half naked drunk chicks out looking for that one marine that will get them drunk and sweep them off their feet. Not sure what this dive bar is going for with their punk rock music and 70 yr old customers but it may just be my least favorite dive bar I've ever visited. For the longest time I would walk by this place thinking it was Boar's Head Sandwiches like the ones you can get at Ralph's or whatever. I could not have been more wrong. Oddly enough it says Bar and Grill but I have yet to see a food menu or food other than outside Pizza being consumed here. My friend wanted to go here for the pool tables because it's actually the only place with pool in the area. There are 4 pool tables here and one has been broken during all 3 visits of mine, I don't think they have any intention of fixing it. I thought I could maybe get a decent Well drink here but when ordering a Cuba Libre they didn't even know what it was and couldn't make it for shit. Rum, lime, coke. How could you fuck that up? Perfect bar that exemplifies why Carlsbad night life is...not all that. Downtown Carlsbad, one of the few places in north county with an actual bar/club area, and for my last few years going there it has never gotten better. This bar helps furthers my reasoning why it takes me to get dragged out of my place to go here. Like almost any lively bar in SD they have a cover, I did enjoy the cheap $5 cover though. Walking in it's not as cramped as some of the other bars in the area, but the bar is where the catastrophe begins. It took me almost 5-6min (actually timed it because it took so long) to get a bartender to take my order. I've been to countless bars now and nothing made how busy the bar was anything out of the ordinary. The bartenders simply did not know how to manage the bar well. I ordered a Tom Collins to start, classic drink any bartender should know. The bartender knew how to make it but the pour counts were off, and it completely just tasted bad, that I just sat it on the bar. My buddy gave me his extra Jack and Coke which wasn't any better. I settled for beer after these two drinks. The dance floor was lively and popping but the DJ was absolute trash, would have thought he was DJing off a phone. Overall the poor bar service, bad drinks, and bad DJ were enough for me. Honestly Pizza Port and Senor Grubbys have me more excited to go to downtown Carlsbad for a night out. read more

Had a horrible time due to the unprofessional bouncer. I got to Boar Cross'n often. Maybe once a month. Last night I came in for what will probably be the last time. I showed up with a driver's license that had recently expired, and my interim license. The bouncer looked at my card and told me it was expired - so I showed him my interim license and said the new one would be a few weeks in the mail. He stood there holding my card not saying anything in response. I recited all the correct information on the card - I do look a bit young but I'm 25 years old - I thought 'Oh maybe he thinks it's fake? Atleast he is doing his job' but I had plenty of proof it was as real as any other customer's Identification. This bouncer wasn't responding or doing anything. I stood there awkwardly for about 2 minutes waiting for him to give me my card back and make a decision. I finally go back up to him and say 'how can I prove to you that I am of age? I come here all the time. I'm here with my family from South America. They all paid already and are inside.' He told me 'I'm putting myself at risk here. What do I get?' I respond 'it sounds like you are asking me for money to get in. There's already a $10 fee to get in....' 'Yeah I'm gonna need at least a Dub.' I couldn't believe he was soliciting money from someone whom he had also just decided didn't have the credentials to go inside. If he thought I was underage then he pretty much proved in that moment that he accepts money from minors to allow them in. This was the African American Bouncer on Saturday May 25th 2019. I hope that management reads this message or responds correctly to my phone call. If I see that employee working there again I will report the entire business to the city council and ultimately let them decide. There are so many youth and underage people who hang around the Village on Saturday nights. The fact that they pull stunts like this makes it pretty clear to see that underage people could very easily get into this bar. When I told him what he was doing was illegal and that I wanted to speak to management he flatly said no and began pushing me toward the corner of the sidewalk because I was telling the people around me what this man was doing. Last night was a HUGE disappointment and I'm normally pretty optimistic. A $10 cover charge for a dive bar is pathetic, but I understand that you probably need to make some money and now I see why. You closed down the back smoking patio at 11 and told everyone to go out front... and then once everyone was outside in the front (25+ people) you told us we had to get back in the entrance line (which now had 100+ people in it) to get back in. But the front door staff was waiting for people to leave to start letting more people in at the same time since you were already over capacity. So you forced us to the front then said tough luck. & Hilariously the only thing you didn't consider was the cash tabs left open because your greedy establishment wanted to make a few more bucks at the door. Overall we had fun at the beginning but after that shitty customer service my friends and I will not be going back. This is is really lame and boring. Coming here on a Saturday night, we first had to pay the cover fee of $5 to enter the bar/wanna-be nightclub. Upon coming in there's a bar directly to the left to make a nice little pit stop have a drink before entering and having a real drink. This must be for the true alkys who have a drink ever few steps. The main bar (?) is located in the middle of the whole place and is in a round oval shape where everyone surrounds. This would be the prefect place for me, a preschool teacher, to teach my kids their shapes. Cylinder - Shot Glasses Rectangle - Pool Tables Oval - Main Bar Sphere - Disco Ball Overall, this place is just a bar. On the dirty side, skanky girls walking up in here, and lame on the drinks. This is your usual night club, great for your ladies if they want to go out. Be for warned however this place is crawling with marines and sailors, and it is packed nut to butt. Every time I have been there and i mean ever time, this includes dropping off friends as a DD there has always been cops arresting someone. This is understandable to a point, but I believe the security should be more proactive about getting the riff raff out and more selective about what jerks they let into the club. There is a very nice amount of pool tables in here. My suggestion avoid going here on the 1st and 15th (military paydays) Pre game it hard before going, and have a blast! read more

Well, if you're a North County bar junkie, chances are you'll probably see your friends and the same people from everywhere else around the 760 there as well! The place is pretty nice, it has three bars and a lot of pool tables just in case you feel more lucky smacking balls with sticks than getting your groove on at the dance floor. DJ's usually vary and they rotate often to try and give the crowd different atmospheres. I think the big plus is the $1 beers out in the patio area every Thursday, Friday and Saturday somewhere from 8 ish to 9:45 pm. The funniest part is seeing people getting smashed within that short 2-hour period off the $1 beers and just going completely ape sh*t on the dancefloor! If you ever needed someone to break the ice, you can always count on them! It can get VERY packed there. Also, take note that you will see a LOT of military guys there as well. It's crowded to the point where fist pumping also means a possibilty of rubbing your pits in someone's face, yeah, Nasty Boys style (old WWF reference). It would be a crowd generally around the dance floor, otherwise you're fine trying to walk anywhere else. And finally, the bars and all. The middle bar, which is the main one, is always filled and crowded around. You have two other bars. One near the entrance and the other in the pool room where "Sunshine" is your bartender there. The atmosphere can be pretty "ratchet" as most would say, and maybe so. There's the once every other time drunk fights that usually involves a drunk military guy and some other random person. Pretty dangerous stuff, it can happen anywhere! I wouldn't want to accidentally walk into the middle of a swing with a happy face on and intercept a punch meant for someone else and start flying across the room screaming like a little schoolgirl! *Ahem* Anyway. I think this place is great for just bringing friends around. For dates, not so much... If you're bringing a female date, yeah... Expect vultures and locked-on eyes! read more

Usually you will not find me at Boar Cross'n on any night of the week...it's usually full of marines and other d-bags that I prefer to stay away from. Locally known for the rough crowd that hangs out here, last night was an exception, and I had a really fun time! This is a great place to play pool, but get there early so you can grab a table before the place gets really busy. You also avoid the cover charge too! No pitchers served here, just bottles, and the staff here was very nice and all did their jobs well. Nice outside patio area also, with the second bar set up out there. Ah, the Whore's Crossing. The bouncers need a reality check, the bartenders need a drink book, and the dj's (who typically spin nothing but club music.....so over it) need real jobs. Only reason I'd ever go there is for the multiple pool tables, all decently well kept and full-size. But i would only ever go during the day, only in the middle of the week. The men's bathroom usually smells of nothing but piss, too. Very poorly maintained. Takes cards, which is nice. Terrible experience here! If there was the option to give 0 stars I would. I've been here a few times and haven't had a problem but last night the staff was extremely rude. The security guards, Reggie & Rico, of course asked for identification and when I showed them my card (saying that I am in fact of age) they still wouldn't let me in. They claimed my id wasn't me. I arrived at boars a little bit skeptical after doing my homework reading all the mixed yelp reviews. A few of my friends refused to come here with me saying it's dirty and sketchy. I decided to give it a try because it's closer to home and I kind of enjoy the sketchy bars sometimes (haha). I was pleasantly surprised at how much fun my friends and I had. There was a $5 cover charge but I think that's pretty minimal as the drinks were cheap and the bartenders were super cool. I didn't spend more than $5 on the drinks I purchased. Normally, I spend a lot of time at some of the more "trendy" bars in Encinitas, I definitely preferred the atmosphere that Boars offered. The people there were a lot more laid back and fun. Yes, there were a lot of prowling cougars but that didn't ruin my fun night. Yes, there were a lot of marines but they were all friendly and they made the dance floor a lot more fun. The music was "club" music, it was a Friday night but the DJ did a good job mixing up some oldies and newer songs. I love how big the place is, so many times I've been on crowded dance floors and my hair and makeup immediately becomes ruined, this time it took a good two hours or so for that to happen and they had a few fans that were blowing that really helped. One of the only downsides was that the girls bathroom was dirty, toilet paper and paper towels all over the ground and there were only two stalls, making the wait take forever. If you go outside the front but have already paid, you do have to wait in line again to get back in but it really didn't take that long. My friends and I will definitely be coming back here for the fun atmosphere and cheap drinks. read more

Mostly rating the beer selection. They serve barely what would be considered beer and is below the selection of most regular bars in the area. Stone IPA and maybe Anchor Steam exhaust the beer options. This is a loud dance club and pool bar. Switched over to cocktails since the beer wasn't tasting super fresh. Pretty decent flavors. Super packed and pretty fun. But having to potentially wait in line, pay a cover, and pay for sub-par beer is a big turn-off for me. read more
