This place really wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be, based on the reviews. I went there for a show - a show that seemed out of place in this bar. But, it turned out okay. I guess they are trying to have more shows there or something? Weird, but whatever. They have $1 bottles of Newcastle on Thursdays until 10:00. There were a lot more dudes than chicks - most looked like they were from the military. The chicks were mostly skanks, as previous reviewers have noted. If you want to drink and you want to spend as little as possible this is the place for you. They often have live music as well. Bands range from Reggae, Punk, Metal to top 20's DJ. You never know what the vibe will be like. On Fri/Sat night expect it to almost be a dance club. Tuesday is beer and shot night - $5 for a beer and a shot. They'll serve you pretty much anything except top shelf or some sort of Stone double IPA. Thursday is $1 beer night. On the back patio you can enjoy Bluemoon for a $1 a beer. I arrived at boars a little bit skeptical after doing my homework reading all the mixed yelp reviews. A few of my friends refused to come here with me saying it's dirty and sketchy. I decided to give it a try because it's closer to home and I kind of enjoy the sketchy bars sometimes (haha). I was pleasantly surprised at how much fun my friends and I had. There was a $5 cover charge but I think that's pretty minimal as the drinks were cheap and the bartenders were super cool. I didn't spend more than $5 on the drinks I purchased. Normally, I spend a lot of time at some of the more "trendy" bars in Encinitas, I definitely preferred the atmosphere that Boars offered. The people there were a lot more laid back and fun. Yes, there were a lot of prowling cougars but that didn't ruin my fun night. Yes, there were a lot of marines but they were all friendly and they made the dance floor a lot more fun. The music was "club" music, it was a Friday night but the DJ did a good job mixing up some oldies and newer songs. I love how big the place is, so many times I've been on crowded dance floors and my hair and makeup immediately becomes ruined, this time it took a good two hours or so for that to happen and they had a few fans that were blowing that really helped. One of the only downsides was that the girls bathroom was dirty, toilet paper and paper towels all over the ground and there were only two stalls, making the wait take forever. If you go outside the front but have already paid, you do have to wait in line again to get back in but it really didn't take that long. My friends and I will definitely be coming back here for the fun atmosphere and cheap drinks. read more

Mostly rating the beer selection. They serve barely what would be considered beer and is below the selection of most regular bars in the area. Stone IPA and maybe Anchor Steam exhaust the beer options. This is a loud dance club and pool bar. Switched over to cocktails since the beer wasn't tasting super fresh. Pretty decent flavors. Super packed and pretty fun. But having to potentially wait in line, pay a cover, and pay for sub-par beer is a big turn-off for me. read more

This is a pretty cool spot. Went here for warped tour battles of the bands. Dalmartians were great. I am months behind but I have been long overdue in posting this review ... I threw a surprise 30th birthday party for my husband and was fortunate find this place as you do have to pay spacing fee! Instead all money went towards drinks and they allowed outside licensed cater food which was an awesome! Not to mention their prices for drinks are unbeatable very reasonable! They allowed us to have the back patio and a Bluetooth speaker for light music for a few hours and was so easy to work with ... everyone had an absolute blast! read more

This has become my friends' and I's go-to place when we are wanting to play some pool and have a few drinks on the weekend. The bartenders are always friendly as are the patrons! I love the people that work there! The bartenders an security are great. The main reason I go there is to play pool, boars is my home bar for a couple pool leagues..for now. The state of the tables is embarrassing! Most of the felts are in horrible condition with both stains and tears; 90% of all their sticks don't even have tips. Then much later I am on dance floor and some chick is trying to dance battle me and I ask her what she's doing?? And has a full glass beverage and we r out on the dance floor... glass is dangerous on the dance floor so I tell the bouncer he goes and talked to her and does nothing about glass being on the dance floor. Then some chick while I'm dancing takes her vape out and blows it in my face. gets in my face and blows vape Oh ya because vapes are allowed in doors I ask her to go outside to smoke her vape. She gets my face and I tell her I'm going to tell Security she then mocks me. Then starts swinging. I tell her and her friend to not touch me because with the swinging starts the pushing then the dude they are with pushes me super hard!! Wow what a great guy that is to get involved and push me. Mind you I'm asthmatic and can't be around any type of smoke even vape bothers my lungs. I luckily duck and bob and she still pops me in the face in my nose. Then security said they didn't see her assault me and heard her side of story and the bouncer made me leave he was hostile and I was the one assaulted. This place bouncers are children with no real training to be bouncers. Super lame experience at a place I spend my money and have amazing fun at. I will be taking my money elsewhere till they man up and train the staff to be better employees and advocates for the patrons. I'm not surprised though with the first interaction with the staff member at Main bar. No personality except for Sheila and Sam the best bartenders in that place. Too bad I really like going here and bringing my friends here looks like we will be going elsewhere for a while till they hire really trained bouncers whom watch the folks and maybe have a better viewing spot from the stage. Dope venue... Drink prices, decent... pretty average... I mean compared to Downtown s.d. its cheap... but yeah... The venue is spacious, pool tables, a stage for live shows... Really cool bar area... like a big island in the middle of the venue... the bartenders were top notch, no complaints there. The bathroom left much to be desired unfortunately, bathrooms are one of my top priorities... theres nothing like having to drop a bomb to find that there is either A) No lock on the door, B) Shit all over the place, C) No toilet paper... I have only been here once but I loved it. The bartenders were friendly and they had draft beer for $1 from 7-9. The layout of the bar is great for a show. It is very open and they actually keep it cool in there so you're not sweating like you might be at other bars where band play. I can't wait to go back and see more bands play. This is one of my favorite places to hang out ANY day of the week. But my favorite part is the live music! There is ONLY a cover when a band is in the house. Lots of pool tables. Great drink prices FRIDAYS are tacos and draft beers on the deck (So yummy). This place is laid back easy going and full of great people (staff included). I feel safe when I hang out here. VERY clean bathrooms as well! Great big mirror ladies....You know we love that! LOL! :) And the Carlsbad transit station is right across the street so you dont have to drive. Runs until midnight Fri&Sat. Im young and single and I love this place.....I guess you just have to come see it for yourself! :) read more

The best time to go here is a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Leave before the place turns into the pseudo-nightclub/ wanna-be uber lounge. The staff working days and early evening are great. They pour great drinks. There are pool tables or keno and you can really relax and just enjoy a few cocktails. I give it four stars for the day shift. When they turn the place into a club, that is the time to leave. The bouncers are anal, the VIP section is laughable, and the service sucks. If you put your drink down while you're dancing, people come and take them away like they were finished (but the glass can be half to 3/4 full). You have to buy another drink only to have to disappear again should you decide to go dancing again. It's the greatest scam ever. The locals should come here during the day and you will enjoy the atmosphere and service. read more

I've been coming here for a few years now each time hoping it will be better and never is. I'm surprised how packed it is but that's because cbad and oside are seriously lacking in good bars! First off no matter how hot you are you will pay a cover, don't get me wrong I don't mind but once you get in you'll want your money back. Where do I start? We get there and the body guard wanted to double check my I.D. to make sure it was really me. (Props for taking your job seriously, dude) We get in, find a table and wait for a little bit, thinking they had a waiting service.... we were wrong. We get up to order our drinks from the tall blonde bartender. We told her the exact ingredients that consist of my drink. I look down to see a drink I did not order. The drink I ordered is green, not red. So then we ask her to actually make the right drink, and she stares at us. Like the kind of stare you give to someone after they cut you off on the freeway almost hitting you. So i stare at her right back. I ask, "I didn't order that. I ordered a JuneBug. A junebug is not red. Can you make me a junebug please?" She is still staring at me. So then i push the drink towards her some more, and repeat, "Can you make me what I ordered, please? Can you do that?" She finally says, "This is a Junebug. It's fine. Just drink it." She said this like 4 times right after she walked away. My boyfriend and I immediately look at each other in shock. We wait for her to come back, and she is still insisting that I try her drink. Anyway.... the wrong drink (which was horrible, BTW) ended up "being on the house". Actually, it ended up on the table next to us that was empty. So then I try to be sneaky and use the other bartender, then she yells at me for using the wrong bartender! WTF?! As the night goes on, the place starts to get packed. All I see is women in clothing that looks like it's falling off. And not in a good way. Like women's clothing is screeeeaaaming for help! Lastly, we had to wait in line to go outside. Again, WTF?! The guard who took his job seriously refused for let more than 5 people outside at a time. He was really pissing a lot of people off. Never again will I ever go there. Not to mention, they had some underage drinking going on. Saw a girl I knew a couple years ago who I know for damn sure, ain't 21! ***GHETTO BAR*** First I want to start of with this why does a dive bar have a cover charge? I'm an out of Townes who came down for a friends birthday and we decided to do the Carlsbad bar crawl hitting up all the bars in the Carlsbad village. I'm so disgusted at the atmosphere of this bar and they hire these children to be bouncers. I came back to the bar at 12:30am after paying to get into this bar was told I couldn't return because the bar was closing. I think this is poor service and this will not be the last of my complaint I will be calling to speak with the manager because I feel discriminated against. I and my friend were the only two the bouncer didn't let in but let the rest of our group in and tried to tell us they worked there and that's why they could go back in. No one in our group works at this bar. If I could give it a zero star I would. I'm so disappointed by the service and being I live in the city that never sleeps I have never been treated this way. Who charges a cover at 9pm on a Thursday night in Carlsbad??? I knew that they often charged cover, so I called ahead (around 4pm) to find out. The woman in the bar with an Irish (ish) accent answered and told me cover started at 10pm. I figured I'd show up around 9, but had my girlfriend call again around 7 to double check. This time a man answered, assuring us that cover started at 10. We arrived at 9:10 and were told that there was a $5 per person cover. I told the bouncer that I had called ahead and my girlfriend explained that she had also called and were assured both times that cover didn't start until 10pm but the bouncer didn't care. I asked to speak to a manager and he said there were "none on duty". Hard to believe. Anyways the bouncer was a real dick and the staff seemingly lied to us (or didn't know) about the cover time. Long story short: We decided to go somewhere without a cover because, come-on, it's Carlsbad, not Vegas. EDIT: Since then I have even checked their website and their events calendar says "NO COVER TIL 10PM" on the day we went. Shady business here. Also -- while i'm on this rant: They offer $1 tiny cups of beer (not bad for $1 though) from 7:45 - 9:45 on the patio. But they go off of "Boar's time" which is about 20 minutes fast, meaning it ends around 9:25. Ironically though it always starts promptly at 7:45 / real time. read more
