We tried this place a couple weeks ago and it was AH-MAZING. The atmosphere is light and airy and the service was great. Their Social Hour has a lot of delicious small plates to choose from and the ingredients are super fresh. I had the scratch made beet pasta w/ roasted tomatoes and chopped kalamata olives and it was SOOOOOO GOOD. I can't wait to come here again! read more

Great food! Friendly staff. Family friendly but also a great date spot. Great place for happy hour. I am from Atlanta "the city of chefs". I've been fortunate to eat at many amazing restaurants there. Since moving to AZ it's been a struggle to find restaurants that compete. Board & Batten was a god send. I wish I would have found it sooner! It is truly a hidden gem. The decor is lovely, the staff is knowledgeable, the food is very good quality, and the pricing is more than fair. I was hesitant to write a review because I want to keep this gem to myself. But it truly is a great restaurant and it would be selfish to not give them the kudos they deserve! read more

We came for dinner and were refused a table! We just came from a family photo shoot, very well dressed. The host went to speak with a manger went we asked to be seated, with plenty of open tables inside and out. She came back with an excuse of a large party coming in and only one server on for the night... they had no issue seating the couple who just walked in before us. If you don't want families in your restaurant, don't have a kids menu. We won't be back. read more

I really wanted to like this place as it was recommended by a group. Ambiance is good, but if you're looking for a quiet restaurant this isn't the place for you in the summer. I'm sure outdoor seating is great when it's cooler. The waiter was very nice, but a space cadet and the kitchen being backed up didn't help. We waited 45 min for our entrees only to have them deliver a salmon instead of branzino, and one pork entree instead of two. The waiter came by 10-15 min later to check on us, and by that time we had to go to a concert. He finally fessed up and said he only entered 1 pork entree vs. 2, but just added it. We told him that we had to go and he said, "do you want it to go?" Lol. By the time it was all said and done, we paid $150 for 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, (yes, paid for the salmon which wasn't even on the menu), and 3 drinks (3rd one came to us late). Waiter didn't have any sense of urgency or thought of customer service for the screw up. Absolute bummer that evening! read more

The ambience and service is the star here with the kitchen still striving for consistency. Diverse and simple menu with the waiter also presenting detailed daily specials. We were convinced the octopus starter would be just as good with our second visit but it was way overcooked, perhaps in the same oil as the french fries. Hamburger is well built but meat not memorable and also overcooked. Highlight was the beautiful spring gem salad. I steered clear of the pasta entrees as our initial visit resulted in a redo of undercooked pasta, with a lengthy wait. Both visits had service that exceeded our expectations - even addressing any wait with a comped entree. Make sure to make an online reservation to make their evenings easier to plan; we'll be back in a few months after their kitchen catches up with their service quality and consistency. read more

Beautiful place. Great service. But the only negative was the incredible amount of salt the kitchen used. 2 of the 4 in our party could finish meal's because of salt. Italian Squash and Bacon wrapped figs...amazing. My steak Frites was cooked perfectly. But the pork and fish our friends ordered were so heavy on salt. We've tried to eat dinner here twice in recent weeks. The first attempt it was at 4:30 pm and the patio was open with a few people scattered around. The hostess told us they weren't serving dinner until 5 so we were "not allowed" to sit at a table. So we promptly left and went somewhere we could sit at a table and enjoy a meal. I would have been totally ok with not being able to order dinner until 5 while being allowed to sit at a table but that wasn't allowed "without permission" according to the hostess. The second time we went back about 2 weeks later and made sure it was after 5pm but they again couldn't seat us at a table, only the bar, because they were short staffed in the kitchen. Why would being at the bar vs a table matter if the kitchen was short staffed? The two times we've actually eaten there the food was simply not up to par, incredibly mediocre at best, regardless of the good reviews it's just not good food and I'm not that picky. The ambiance, which is perfect, and lack of options in the area are the only reasons I've tried to go back there. Apparently though they don't need the business so I won't be making the same mistake again. read more

Staff from hostess, bartender, to servers, all attentive & friendly. Bacon wrapped dates is a must try, crisp bacon around softened dates with shaved Parmesan Almond cake was fluffy complimented by lemon sorbet. This was a truly delightful lunch. Choices were difficult to make, yet everything was superb. We had the "Turkey Club" but it was unlike any other. Every flavor was perfectly matched. The salad with apples was perfect side dish. We also had the home made potato chips - equal to anything you'd find in our Napa California destination restaurants. The crisp green salad with large, flavorful cuts of juicy chicken was excellent. A side of fries were just what the tastebuds craved. On top of the great food, our server, Lauren was more like a host - the knowledgeable, just social enough to be friendly and accessible without dominating and her timing was excellent. Had my first experience at this absolute gem of a restaurant earlier tonight and could not recommend it enough. The food is some of the best available in the area without being overpriced - try the grilled octopus appetizer. Very pleasant atmosphere with large outdoor and indoor seating areas. To the management, Anna was our server and really added to our dining experience. I made a point of asking the bartender to pass on how knowledgeable and pleasant she was but just in case wanted too reiterate it here. They have a lovely large patio that is an extension of the main dining room with long bar. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu as well as the wine list. I typically do not care for eggplant but I'm glad that I heeded his suggestion to order my meal per the chef's recommendation, eggplant topping and all. He was spot on! This is the East Valley's cutest restaurant. It may be the cutest restaurant I have ever eaten at. We rode our beach cruisers 2 miles and sat outside on a beautiful night. 2 adults, 2 kids. The calamari was incredible and very unique. My kids got hamburgers of a gourmet version, the adults ordered steak and scallops. When it got slightly chilly in the evening, the staff brought us blankets for our laps. The staff who work there seem to be very talented people who really know how to treat people, even my children were treated with class. My kids continue to talk about their experience bike riding to the board and batten and having a fun dinner there. The Dr.Loosen wine was an incredible bonus. read more
