Stopped in on way home from Ohio University. Covid precautions in place. Spacing, numbers, and plexiglass dividers all present. Staff all wore masks properly. (Many patrons were not masked in common areas.) Food was great: Ribs, brisket, and fish and chips really good. Refills were plentiful. Server Deana was wonderful - definitely 5 stars for her! Three wait staff made sure tables were all taken care of. Only issue and why 4 not 5 stars - kerosene heaters were iffy. Had to move because one by our table wasn't working. No problem in reseating us. Bathrooms were pretty clean. It was busy. They had customers waiting for seats in their cars. Worth the stop. Boat House BBQ from Marrietta,OH and it is really good, the WoodChip fries are so good that I can't get enough of them. The cheese was so creamy, the toppings came with a flavor Combination that is out of this world. The wingz had such flavor that blew my mind as well, you could taste the chicken and how tender it is, the mild sauce was perfect and not to much. And the blue cheese was amazing as well. Now, I'm now a big fan or pork I more if a Chicken and Fish guy. That's why when I say this I mean it, the smoked pork was good I worldnet say the best cause I like my meat tender and juicy but, what saved it was the Mac N Cheese and the selection of sauce you could put onto the meat yourself. I chose the Carolina Styled BBQ and it was amazing. Now, the reason my vote is only 3 stars is because of this peace of metal I found in my pork. This place has potential but the food/recipes are not consistent. The place has a dirty/grungy feel to it. The tables are sticky, booths are worn and the floors are dirty. They have management issues and the owner cares more about the money than the staff and it's visible to the customers. I live locally and the place has gone down hill. They seem to drive away the good staff. The location is a beautiful place, especially in the summer but they need to get it together before we ever go back. read more

Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. We were here in February so no chance of sitting outside, but this would be a great place to visit on a beautiful day. This wasn't our first time here and I'm sure won't be our last. Food was very tasty as normal. Husbands brisket was a little dry but not bad. No complaints on my order of wood chips with bacon and brisket. We were seated promptly but our server wasn't the best. I don't know if she was new or just kind of lazy ? The beers were ice cold. We ate outside and had a very nice view of the river. Thankfully the other servers made sure we had everything we needed. My biggest pet peeve from this experience was that our server literally brought our check right after our food was delivered. One and done. Actually didn't even got to the one part. Place was crazy with staff going everywhere but to our table. And it wasn't even that crowded as about half the tables were empty. Fish sandwich w/fries was great, and I had a salad with grilled chicken....which had 2 pieces of onion a few cubes of diced tomatoes and croutons...with iceberg lettuce. The grilled chicken tasted good...but iceberg lettuce is so bland. Romaine lettuce or spinach would have been great. Iceberg lettuce is good for wedge salad and sandwiches. Server was polite, and we had to send our check back 3 times to get it right. Drinks were tart but satisfactory. We checked out the area where the buffet goes, not sure how they would keep the insects out...but there was no buffet there on this Friday night. Everything was satisfactory except for cleanliness. Stuff on the floor, and our table was sticky and wobbly...(couldn't touch the table without it rocking) and the menus need cleaned pretty bad. The view of the river is nice. Will definitely try here again, hopefully they will have more nutrient dense greens in the salad and and a cleaner dining area. read more

We finished a backpacking trip recently across Southern Ohio and made our way into Marietta around lunchtime. When you haul wet camping gear on your back up and down hills for days...you tend to work up a huge appetite. Boathouse was appealing because we could sit outside (let's face it....we probably smelled a little) and look at the river. I had some chili, ribs, and fries. We tried boathouse tonight. I have nothing but great things but must have been off their game tonight. We watched people be seated and eat and leave before our food came. I finally went to the bar to get drinks because our waitress was MIA. We had pulled pork burger, regular burgers, 2 salads, pulled pork Mac and cheese, and ribs. The ribs were outstanding; however the pork was very dry as were the burgers. As we were handed our bill, the waitress said I know you guys are talking about me, have a nice weekend. I've never left a bad tip but tonight I left a .25 tip or a review like this but the comment at the end was enough and Just topped off the night. We ate 1x in the restaurant and 1x on the patio. Personally I am not big on eating outside. It was a beautiful day but you gotta compete with bees and flies and that just annoys me. But the appeal of the water and watching boats is very nice. The ribs were recommended but out the first time we went they were out. So I got a combo of the chicken and pulled pork the first time and the chicken and ribs the 2nd time. Chicken was amazing the first time, a bit dry the 2nd time. Ribs were good. Pulled pork was good as well. I love that the sauces are on the table and you can try all of them. So everyone gets what they like or to try what they like. Crowded both times we went. Service was a bit slow, but the food was amazing. I make a meal out of the pulled pork bbq nachos. They are loaded down with pork, creamy cheese sauce, ranch and house bbq. I like to add their blueberry bourbon bbq sauce to them. It's sweet and you can taste the blueberries. I asked what all comes on them and they didn't mention the lettuce. I would minus the lettuce in future. We also ordered the Buffalo Mac n Cheese. The cheese sauce they use for the nachos is the same and the Buffalo sauce was good with bleu cheese crumbles on top. Both dishes were generous portions. This is a great place to come on a nice day as they are right on the river and have good indoor seating with views as well as outdoor seating during the warmer months. read more

We've eaten there a few times and the ribs were pretty good but just got takeout and whoa SALTY. I think someone accidentally doubled the salt in the brine marinade. I also ordered a Cobb salad which was a disgrace. Iceberg chunks with a few tiny pieces of tomato, even tinier pieces of bacon, a dusting of bleu cheese, one boiled egg, and no avocado. Deeply unsatisfying. We'll give it another try and eat in since it's the only bbq place in town (!?) but not beyond that. read more

Fourth time I have ordered the wedge salad. It has been different every time. This time it is lettuce, blue cheese crumbles, half a red onion and 4 tomato cubes. The lettuce is edible, better than last time. I miss the bacon, croutons and dressing. Not sure what flavor the salmon add on is supposed to be. The balsamic dressing added wetness and sugar. I really love the Boathouse BBQ. I've been going there for years (way back when I even hosted my now 25 year old sons, 16th birthday there). They have never disappointed. Great food and I love that it's by the river in Marietta. During the summer months, dining out is the only way to go! Cold drinks and hot food. I highly recommend their fish and chips, but their wings are pretty good too. Really, there isn't anything on the menu that's bad. Service has always been standard to good and prices are very fair. Came for lunch on a Thursday with a friend. Atmosphere inside and outside along the water is very nice. Lots of friendly staff working so drinks and food were quick. BUTTTT the bbq on the other hand was some of the worst. We decided the name should be changed to just "The Boathouse" and not have bbq involved. Brisket was reheated on a flat top I assume. I've never seen brisket slices with crispy char on both sides. Ribs were cold so clearly weren't reheated enough but bigger question why are they reheating bbq? Fresh cooked bbq can hold in a warmer at proper temps for 12+ hrs. Also the slaw was clearly store bought and not fresh house made. Very disappointing food experience. We were looking for a nice restaurant on the river in Marietta and found this gem! We were immediately greeted and seated by friendly staff. Our server got us our drinks quickly and helped us decide our lunch order. My wife wanted ribs and pulled pork, while I was hungry for brisket and chicken. Our server suggested a combo pick 4 platter and an extra plate for a couple dollars saving. We also got the sweet potato fries and mac and cheese sides. When the food arrived we were amazed at the huge portions. There were 6 bones, 1/4 chicken, 3 slices of brisket and a huge portion of pulled pork. All of the meat was smoked to perfection! The worst brisket I've ever had The worst! While I was almost done eating, the waitress came up and said, "How's the brisket? We've had a ton of people complaining about the fat." I said it was awful, and was not pleased at all. When I get the bill, there was a $2.50 charge for substituting the Texas Toast for cottage cheese. I told the waitress that this was just adding insult to injury, as the brisket was absolute crap. I told her I expected to have something taken off, if not completely removed from the bill. She said she'd talk to the manager to have the bill adjusted. When she came back, she gave me a card for a free appetizer, and removed the $2.50 charge. (Whoop, whoop). She said the manager wouldn't take anything off the entree. The the back of the waitresses shirts said, "Smoke Meat, no Meth" (seriously).
