A fantastic view with a terrific staff. Poor Laurie (Laura?) had to run the entire place by herself on an insanely beautiful fall day at peak foliage season and she handled the crowd like a ninja. I must say, Boathouse Saranac Lake Pub did not disappoint! We entered and were immediately greeted, shown to the bar, where we wished to imbibe a pre-dinner potable. Kathy ordered the strawberry Moscow Mule; I, the unfiltered amber. Both arrived promptly and both (but especially the Mule) were delicious. We were eventually seated outside with an incredible view of the lake. The sun was out, then it wasn't, then it was, then it wasn't, so our waitress took it upon herself to ask if we would like blankets with which to wrap ourselves (for warmth). Restaurant-style vertical heaters were also lighted while we sat. I had a blueberry Mule while on the patio. This, too, was delicious, although I would recommend the strawberry over the blue. The salmon with farro (and other common salmon-related accoutrements) was quite possibly one of the best salmon dishes I have ever had. More specifically, the salmon was accompanied to the ball by five escorts: Farro, Tomato, Olive, Feta, and Carrot Puree. The autumnal semi-sweetness of the puree complemented the salty olive and feta in a quite creative way, making this a playful but mysterious little dish. The quarter chicken, too, got very good reviews. Finally, the cheesecake was both cheesy and cakey (albeit not quite as thick and hearty as you would get in the New York City limits). All-told, dinner was a little over $100. Don't miss: the flavored Moscow Mules! Pro Tip: (also a "don't miss"): don't be afraid to ask for a blanket when the cool evening breeze comes in off of the water. read more

The Boathouse has so much potential. Our waitress (her 3rd day) worked diligently. The food was excellent. The lag between arrival and completion of the meal was unconscionable. It took over 3 hours. They tried to sit me and my dog at least 3 times outside, got up twice before anyone came to serve me water or ask me anything...outside area was not crowded for a beautiful summer day on the lake, plenty of open seating, but had to sit us at least 3 times before just decided to leave. Came here with the bf because we stayed at the Saranac Waterfront Lodge. We dined in during dinner and there was very little people, so we felt comfortable. We ordered the fried chicken sandwich, a veal hotdog and arancini. The food itself was decent, but nothing special. I felt that the food could have used a lot more flavor and spices, which would have made it a lot better. I did like how the fried chicken wasn't greasy though, and it tasted crispy, healthy and light. We also had breakfast delivered to our room the following morning and it was pretty good. We got the smoked salmon toast and an avocado toast with bacon on top. They were pretty big in portion which I was surprised -- I was definitely full. In all, I did find the foods overpriced. It wasn't bad but it could have been better. This establishment is fairly new so I'm sure it will improve a lot more in the future. read more

As local residents we were wondering if the Boathouse restaurant had changed since the ownership of the hotel had changed. We were met at the door and immediately seated. But we didn't have anyone come to our table for another 10 minutes. We ordered drinks and they came to the table. My Old Fashioned looked like a pink colored "fruity " drink "with no ice. I returned it and ordered a beer. The food was from a new menu and wasn't as extensive as the old menu. Pub fare is the best descriptor. Not sure we will be coming back anytime soon. read more

The first time we stopped in, they were closed at 4:00pm. We had hoped to grab a few drinks here since we were staying at the hotel. So, we went elsewhere. The next time we came back for breakfast. The place was huge and empty with a bank of televisions like you'd find in a sports bar. We found a table where we could ignore the screens and have a conversation. Prices were high for what you got. A breakfast sandwich was $12, a typical breakfast plate of eggs, toast, has browns and bacon was $18. Two coffees and a mimosa added another $18 to the bill. This place is nice, with a clean and fancy ambiance. Perfect lunch spot if you have business meetings or similar. The outdoor space is very cute, right by the lake. Food was all good, just as expected, not too many bells and whistles. The burger was nice and well cooked, the spinach dip was delish, the pork sliders were very tasty, salad was a nice size and well dressed, the crabcake could have used a bit more flavor, but it was still good. Came in for an early dinner on a quiet night. The food was excellent, and the view right off the lake was beautiful. They had most of the tables already set up to overlook the water which I thought was a nice touch. I wish we went when it was warmer so we could sit on the patio. We ordered the tortellini bolognese, braised short rib, bbq wings, and fries (we did a 5 hour hike and were quite hungry). We then waited a half an hour for drinks and over an hour just for the appetizers. We got our food 2 hours after being seated. The restaurant was not even full - five other tables not including ours. Made reservations for a Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised by the table we got. It showcased a beautiful view of the lake and was probably the best seat in the house! Also, the calamari app was delicious and definitely the star dish of the night. The duck pizza was not what we expected though. It was overpowered by way too much bbq sauce and had very little duck on it. It definitely could have used some cheese too. We finished the apps as well as my beer and that's when we started to feel forgotten about. I really wanted another beer but our server never came back to ask. I will say after further observation the staff seemed overwhelmed and short handed. Our server was running around doing a lot so it was understandable as to why she wasn't able to come back, but still disappointing. Our entrees took about 25 mins to come out and unfortunately they were very mediocre. The fried chicken sandwich didn't have a lot of flavor and was very small for the huge bun it was on. The burger was better but same thing, patty was too small for the bun it was on. The flavors were decent though. All n all I'm glad we came here and gave this place a shot. Ate here twice while staying at the hotel. Burgers were excellent and served with local beer. Menu is small and focuses on some local offerings which we appreciate. Second night we opted for the higher end dinner options which were just ok-not anything we'd go out of our way for again. The pricing is pretty fair though and the view of the lake was great with the doors open onto the patio. It is a pretty resonant space so it can get loud. Service was fine as well. read more

If there was a no star option, that would have been chosen. Very sad and disappointed with our experience last Friday. We had reservations for two that were made a week prior for a special event. We were brought to our table and then no one came back.... For 30 minutes we waited while the hostess and servers saw us waiting. We tried to say excuse me as they passed but they would not make eye contact. Others were seated and served drinks after us. We were so disgusted that we left and no one seemed to notice. There were many empty tables and quite a few servers. That is really quite inexcusable and frankly rude not to at least say I will be right with you. This is common etiquette in all restaurant venues and it makes a world of difference to the patron. Nevertheless... that will be our last time there. read more

I had the arancini to start and the Fried Chicken sandwich as my entree the chicken was incredibly fresh and was hand breaded and fried right before serving. My wife and I popped in for a late Saturday dinner after a day of hiking and adventuring. We enjoyed the food - spinach artichoke dip and a mushroom pappardelle dish, plenty of food split between the two of us. The place is beautiful especially on a winters night. The room is large with high ceilings, causing it to be really loud. It was hard to hear my husband sitting next to me. I'm upset that I had to write such a negative review; considering how great the location and ambiance of this restaurant is. To start, we made reservations 2 weeks in advance for a birthday party. Upon arrival, we informed the hostess that we made a reservation and gave the name, to which she asked if we "wrote it down" because it couldn't be found in their system . The hostess then said "you're lucky" when they were able to set up a table in the back. We finally got to ordering our food from our server. Our appetizers were actually quite nice. I ordered the Steak Frites medium rare and it came out very well done. Being that it was almost 40 dollars, it was a bit upsetting. Our server was a nice guy and was one of the positives of the meal. We arrived on their re-opening day with no expectations and were pleasantly surprised with the venue layout, service and food. We ordered our drinks and looked out onto the lake while we decided on the meal. The staff were knowledgeable friendly and offered a step above the normal table top service found in the area. Staff and venue are Covid compliant. We had the pork belly sliders and calamari salad to start. The sliders were moist generous in portions and full of flavor from the Korean BBQ sauce and a sprinkling of red cabbage that offered a balance of acidity from the pickling, our calamari salad was fresh, with roasted cherry peppers and scallions which we enjoyed very much. As a second lunch course we opted for the house burger and Caesar salad. The burger was cooked perfectly to med rare ( not raw like some venues ) on a wonderful brioche bun served with double fried French fries- perfection! The Caesar salad was classic in prep and flavor with the elevation of large pieces of bacon, eggs, cherry tomatoes and chives. It was a bit overdone in portion size; half a head of lettuce, and massive cubes of bacon? It could of been minimized and kept its originality. We were introduced to executive chef David Gross who has an extensive resume, which include a few stand out venues such as The Carlyle hotel in Manhattan. We spoke in length about his commitment to the area, commitment to sustainable local produce and his farm-to-table approach for the second restaurant at the hotel opening up in the summer. Locals will receive discounts on designated days. I would agree with others that pricing is on average higher than most properties in Saranac Lake, but the service, atmosphere and finesse of the menu offsets the sticker price. read more
