We found Bob's and Earl's from Yelp as we were driving from AZ to Denver. It was packed and had a very 'home town' vibe - being AA and the only obvious ones in the cafe', we were a little unsure how we would be treated. Thankfully, all the staff were welcoming and kind. What a great find! -- One of the few places open on a Sunday morning. I had the Mexican Biscuit which was a biscuit and has browns with an egg covered with green chili sauce. -- Very tasty but not too spicy. After waking-up in Raton, NM (destination: Denver) and looking at my breakfast options, I decided to drive the 20 miles to Trinidad, CO. That decision started my day off with a very happy belly! This place is a neighborhood cafe and has withstood the test of time. The wait staff were all friendly, sort of like being greeted by your family when entering the kitchen. My breakfast consisted of the Western omelet, and since life is short, I opted for the optional green chili smothering. My whole experience justified the extra time to drive over the state lines and seek this place out. It is tucked away...a few minutes from I-25,, so persevere. I was in town visiting family and they kept raving about this place and how good the food was, so we stopped in for lunch after a trip to Walmart. It was about 1:30 on a Sunday so understandably it was pretty busy, but no one even greeted us or suggested somewhere to sit (there were 7 of us; 5 adults and 2 toddlers), so no big tables were available but they told us we could have the 2 tables in the back but we'd be on opposite ends of the restaurant. They then said we could wait for a big table about 20 minutes but the kids and my in laws wouldn't last that long lol. So we split up and sit, then takes forever even to just get our drink order in, then what seemed like an eternity for the server to come back to take our food orders! I had to go to the restroom, and there was only 1 stall for the entire restaurant, and it was pretty gross; yellow and brown stains on the walls, paper toilet all over the ground, and the paper towel dispenser was broken so I walked out with wet hands.. so the food comes, and on the outside it looks good, but as soon as I bite into it, the bun is so stale and toasted that its just like crunching on a bad crouton, and the burger itself was charred very well done (I had asked for medium/medium well), and little to no flavor, I had to ask for a side of ranch, mustard and mayo and it still wasn't too palatable. Then the fries... they were so big and soggy that they reminded me of noodles, and zero flavor, even after pouring salt and pepper all over them. I could see the appeal to locals as the dining options are very limited in town, but to me it was a pretty round down tiny place with less than average food, not to mention uncleanliness :/ I gave 2 stars because the second girl who helped us was very nice, and their cherry coke was good. read more

Great breakfast place! The veggie omelet was yummy and comes with hash brown and 2 pancakes or toast or biscuit. I got the pancakes and they were light and fluffy! The service was wonderful and we didn't have to wait long for our food. We did have to wait to get our ticket to pay bc so many people were coming in and they only had one waitress and the place was packed at 10:00am on a Friday! She had to call someone else to come in and help. It's just that good!! read more

This is THE place to dine in Trinidad. They are known for their homemade-from scratch-food. Pancakes are the specialty for breakfast but I always get a breakfast burrito smothered in green chili. SO GOOD!! I get a half order and it's still too much. The chicken fried steak is awesome. Really, you can't go wrong with anything you order, and finish it up with some pie! The staff is friendly and helpful and the restaurant is clean. I want to eat here every time we are Trinidad. read more

Fantastic pit stop for breakfast on our road trip. Walked in to all locals including several of the Trinidad police force, so we knew it had to be good. Definitely worth the detour to try their pancakes. Omelettes were great too. read more

We were really disappointed with our breakfast at Bob & Earl's. After reading the great reviews we decided to have breakfast with the family there. We were all craving the good and old American breakfast with bacon! Well, except that they did not have anymore bacon for breakfast. The waitress told us that they were saving the bacon they had for the lunch menu. Seriously? It was 10:30 am on a Saturday. If you are running out of bacon, please send someone to the store to restock your lunch menu, and make a breakfast customer happy. Service was really slow. My coffee mug was not refilled until asked, no silverware with the food, had to ask and wait while food got cold. Taste wise, we were not impressed. read more

This is GREAT small town cafe. We drove around town for an hour looking for a place to take the family for dinnner. Finally Yelp to the rescue! We found this place and the food was wonderful. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. Prices were reasonable. Please support these small town cafes. Forget the fast food restaurants! You have to try their burgers they are great, plus their chile too. I will definitely come back. I almost changed my travel plans to eat there for breakfast the following day! read more

A breakfast oasis that serves hearty, well-prepared staples of the morning, Bob and Earl's Cafe never fails to get us back on the road as we drive home from Southern Great Plains. If the coffee doesn't get you going, friendly servers who both hustle AND smile will. It's a mile or so from the freeway, but well-worth the extra couple minutes. There are not lot of tourists here, so it's a local crowd, but everyone leaves with a full tummy and reason to return, including THIS GUY and his traveling family. read more
