I can't comment on the food because the waitress forgot to serve us. The place was not busy. I caught the waitress's eye across the room after waiting for a long time. She yelled out across the restaurant if we wanted our check. I informed her we never got served. She immediately comes with my cold food and said it just came out of the kitchen. The prices here are cheap so this is a great place to come to get a bang for your buck! I definitely recommend getting the patty melt which is probably one of the more flavorful items in the menu. It came with warm toast, onions, and soft beef. I added a side of hash browns which were crispy and a generous portion. It needed some ketchup and pepper to help season it up but it was still tasty. I also ordered blueberry pancakes and they were large and came with three. They add a generous portion of blueberries in it whereas most places would only put in a few. There were a few hard potatoes in the mix. I wasn't aware that this was a chain restaurant and when I shared my experience with friends they had similar sentiments. Standard diner food selection done well at affordable prices. Nothing fancy, but everything's yummy.

I was very disappointed with recent experience as a customer who has came here a few times. I came here late at night, not expecting super fast service. However, after the servers got our water and order, I sat for 20 minutes waiting while everybody else is getting there food. The guy server then reassured me that our food will come. Another 20 minutes go by and even people who came after us got food. There was a lady server who seemed organized and on top of her orders, had to remind the guy that we haven't gotten food. The guy comes to us, blames their system that our order didn't come through. Then he retakes our order. After waiting for about 15 mins, I only got half of my order, with many parts either missing or incorrect. That's when I just left. I was not gonna wait any longer for comfort food that takes 5-10 minutes to make at home. It's usually understandable when it's late at night, not a lot of workers available on top of the labor shortage, but this was one of my worst food service ever. It's disappointing because I respect this restaurants history. I hope they can train their staff better. A server should never be this unorganized. It's obvious that we were waiting for food for a long time while every single person (take out, dine in) got their food during that hour of waiting. read more

Stopped by for a quick breakfast before running errands and was very happy with the food, price, and surprised by the great customer service! I ordered the special, county fried steak with three eggs and home fries and my wife ordered the western omelette. Our food came out fairly quickly and aside from my order missing an egg (which the server quickly brought the additional egg) we were satisfied. The eggs weren't quite over medium, more on the over easy side; but it's not a deal breaker for me. Headed to VA from MD to help a friend pack up his house for his move to New Hampshire. Didn't eat at home so stopped here. Totally random selection, I just pulled into a shopping center and saw it. The sign says they are open 24 hours a day. Ummm have to keep this in mind at 3am when breakfast is needed. Ordered 3 eggs over easy with scrapple, home fries, and corned beef hash. You sit at any available table and they come and take your order. My waitress was nice and took my order by memory. Now we see if she gets it right. It is not crowded but taking some time to get my food. Food is here. Eggs good, hash good, scrapple good but the home fries were so so. Should have tried something else. Bob and Edith's diner is named after Robert and Edith Bolton. They opened their diner in 1969 at 2310 Columbia Pike, Arlington, VA. There are currently 6 locations, all in Northern Virginia. This diner is open 24 hours/7 days as well as the diners at 2310 Columbia Pike, Arlington, VA; and 5918 North Kings Highway, Alexandria, VA. My wife and I visited on a Sunday at 11:30 AM, and the dining room was nearly full. We were seated quickly. We ordered liver and onions, a steak omelet, orange juice, and Bigelow Earl Grey tea. The liver and onions included 2 sides. The choices of side dishes are homemade coleslaw, homemade macaroni salad, homemade potato salad, applesauce, a vegetable, medley vegetable of the day, french fries, home fries, hash browns, rice, and homemade mashed potatoes. A garden salad is available for an additional $4.59. We chose mashed potatoes and green beans. It came with 2 rolls. The dish had 2 thin slices of liver that were covered with brown gravy and diced white onions. The liver was very tender. It was probably veal. The liver flavor was mild while the gravy was savory. This was one of the best liver and onion dishes we've had in a long time! The mashed potatoes and rolls were typical and okay. The green beans were canned and unsalted. It was the definition of bland. They should change the brand or eliminate it. I definitely recommend the liver and onions if you're interested in liver.    The steak omelet had 3 eggs, cheese, onions, green peppers, tomatoes, and mushrooms. It came with a choice of hash browns, home fries, or grits. We chose hash browns. Buttered toast was included. The buttered toast had a big dollop of margarine between two slices of toasted white bread. There was nothing special about it. If you want to control the amount of margarine on your toast, you'll need to ask for it on the side. The omelet had fresh vegetables, savory thin sliced grilled beef, and cheese umami. It was flavorful, but a little salt and pepper was needed. The hash browns were crispy on the outside, moist on the inside, and not greasy. It had a good fried potato flavor. Their hash browns are one of the best. This dish was quite satisfying because it was very tasty and filling. I would get it again.    The orange juice was nicely balanced between sweet and tangy. It had no pulp. It was dispensed from a machine, so I'm guessing it was a concentrate. It tasted good, and the cup size was big. The Bigelow Earl Grey tea was a full-bodied black tea with a distinctive citrus finish from bergamot oil. The citrus flavor was similar to orange peel. The overall flavor was typical. If you don't like Earl Grey tea, they have green tea and herbal teas.    The dining room and restrooms were clean. The service was reasonably quick, friendly, polite, and responsive. The dishes here are what a diner is expected to have with some variation. The food is generally good, with a few outstanding ones and a few flaws. If you're looking for good uncomplicated food, then drop by and give them a try. read more

Good diner food at reasonable prices. Didn't realize it was there, slightly tucked away in the strip mall. Apparently we were in the minority, it has been very busy each time we were there, so plan on a short wait, but they move tables fairly quickly. Agree with others, staff is hustling, but short so you may have to flag them down. Food is good sized portions, with all the food and more any self respected diner would have. Really like the simplicity of their menu, but have only really only come for breakfast. They are pretty busy between 10am and 12pm but they get patrons in and out pretty quickly. Staff is very friendly, but they can be pretty busy and sometimes you need to flag them down. As far as the food goes love the way they position themselves with the breakfast classics like eggs, hash browns, bacon, sausage etc. Their chicken fried steak had great flavor and crispy texture even with the sausage gravy on top. The food is alright, absolutely no seasoning on it l, not even salt. But the good part is you can add your own amount as you please. We were out and decided to have dinner, first let me say that we normally love Bob and Edith's and usually go to one of the others but the one is Springfield was convenient. Tonight was a bit of a disappointment. First the mashed potatoes which we've ordered numerous times had garlic in them and just weren't great. The food was warm but not really hot. The kicker was the specials board said that the country fried steak was the special for $15.09 normally $15.69. When our check arrived we were charged $15.69, when we asked our server about this we were told we had to ask for the daily special price when we ordered it. We showed it to him on the board he looked at the bill and said it's not that much difference. I told him fine we would take it out of his tip. I know $1.20 isn't a lot but why advertise a price if it's not going to be honored? Why should I have to say I want the country fried steak special. Located in a convenient place in Springfield/Franconia area with plenty of parking (unlike the original diner in Arlington). This area needed a 24 hr diner. The food here is typical of hearty diner fare which is usually fine, and it serves the same type of food as the other locations. The cost for what you are getting is very reasonable....although I did notice that they raised the cost of the waffle meals (my go-to meal when I order) by at least 30 cents. Fortunately, that change doesn't break my bank! Just wishing that the service here at this location was much more consistent. On one occasion, I had to wait for service to arrive at my table after five parties were served, and only one other party arrived ahead of me in line. Fair warning: if you don't wave to serving staff during a rush, you are going to get lost in that rush without ordering. Two wait staff persons serving during a rush period isn't efficient. Their people tried their best, but the lack of people hurts the quality of the dining experience. So much so, that the other diner guests were strongly annoyed waiting for their food and/or checks. read more

This spot has breakfast through dinner, but I come here for the breakfast. The two eggs and sausage is a good deal, you get 3 pieces of sausage, eggs, and choice of home fries, grits, hashbrowns.
