The 154 highway on a Friday afternoon, also known as the busiest time to be in need of a tow. I was driving my '89 BMW (aka my child) up along Lake Cachuma pass when a coolant hose burst. I called AAA, and received and said a tow was on the way. A little later than expected (but again, Friday afternoon on a crazy highway), but Peter from Holzer Towing arrived. He looked at my car and asked if it was original paint (first of many good signs), and began hooking her up to the truck with just a ton of care and attention. Once driving, he was very cautious, and would look in his mirrors every time we went over a bump. Once at the mechanic, he helped push the car into an enclosed area so she would be safe and out of the way. Two weeks ago Monday, we were on our first day of vacation and about 10 miles outside of Santa Barbara on the 101N. We were rear-ended by a mini van in heavy traffic. We were picked up by Octavio from Bob Holzer Towing. He not only got our car on his flat-bed tow truck, but found the metal bracket from the bumper that had caused a flat in a 2 day old tire. He then advised us to continue to Santa Barbara rather than try to go back to the dealer in Camarillo (good advice). He found a tire place in Santa Barbara that could get a replacement tire the next morning. He helped us find a motel that we could walk to from the tire store. He recommended a body shop that could look at the car once the tire was replaced so that we could determine whether we could continue or return home. Amazing service! Called AAA for a dead battery in a parking garage. We get a call while waiting in the parking garage and the guy Jesse was super rude because he couldn't find us when he was on the wrong level. He said "i can just keep driving" to us. We had tried to get the car jump started earlier in the day but it didn't work so we mentioned this and he said "You should have told me before." He jump started the car but was unable to answer any of our questions about what our next steps should be with the battery. He just made it seem like we were asking him to do something more than what his job entailed. Happy to have a jump started car but unhappy with the way in which the service was received. read more

Battery died on us this morning (our mistake as we left the light on). It took James less than 10 Minutes after I called AAA to show up and help us out. He noticed that the battery is more than 4 years old (about the normal lifetime) and also the wrong size (too small). It was meant to be for the model before ours (he showed us in his list of car models/battery types). Also after scanning the bar code of our car he noticed that the battery has not enough power. He did not rush us into a new battery (he said everything else is still okay, the battery should recharge within 30 minutes while driving) but we bought a new battery anyway. Price seemed very good (I just recently bought a new one for my other car for about the same price) and as a AAA member we did not pay for labor and recycling of old battery. All in all he got us back on the road in less than 20 minutes. Highly recommended! read more

I knew I should have posted this the day we called AAA for help. I believe the young man from Bob's towing was Sergio. So sorry if I screwed that up!! He should get a raise!!! He was amazing! Our jaguar got stuck in reverse under our condo complex. The driveway is narrow for cars...the curb is black to prove it! I do not know how he did it but he managed to back his truck down it, maneuver under the building, hook up our car to his truck, and then proceeded to get both vehicles out. I called Bob Holzer towing after viewing their reviews. The other times I have had to call for a tow truck they usually say 30 minutes and many times I have had it take 2+ hours. The person who took my call @ Bob Holzer said 30 minutes but probably going to be about 40 minutes due to the trucks being out on other calls. I gave the person my issue and location and hung up. Just before my 40 minutes was up the truck showed up! I was pretty happy. The driver quickly came up to my vehicle prepare with a jump start unit and battery/alternator tester. Within 30 seconds of putting the jumper battery on my vehicle fired right up... My battery was D-E-A-D. He tested the battery and alternator which of course was in working order no issues. So within a few minutes he had finished the paperwork and charged my card, gave me receipt and I was on my way. Friendly guy, wore a mask and did his job quick and efficient. I don't live in the SB area and was passing through but if I ever needed to get a tow in the region again I would look to this company. The $50 charge for the jump and test is pretty typical so not highway robbery. Thanks! read more

Got two cars stuck on the road up to lizards mouth recently, called AAA and told them the situation. I clearly said that both cars were off the road in a ditch because both me and my friend spun out on a turn and were stuck. they took our membership information and said that there should be no problem with them dispatching a tow truck with a winch. the tow truck driver arrived almost two hours later when we were promised an eta of 30 minutes. He got out of his truck and gave us an attitude (idk, maybe because he was fat and single on valentines day maybe?) looked at both cars and told us he was going to charge us 240$X2 an hour for each car when it was clearly a ten minute job. Completely ridiculous. I even offered to take the hook down to hook up on my tow hook. He just sat in his car while i was trying to figure out what was going on with AAA on the phone. Then he just Left. THESE TOW TRUCK DRIVERS ARE COMPLETE CROOKS. STAY AWAY FROM. read more

In the past 6 months, my family has had 4 experiences with Holzer's (dead batteries or flat tires on 3 different cars). Each time, the super heroes who came to help were awesome - personable, knowledgeable and on time (sometimes even earlier than promised). Earlier this week--I think it was Monday, but it may have been Tuesday--I put in a AAA call to get towed to a garage to see if a new starter had gone bad. Roberto (and I really, really hope I'm not mis-remembering his name) came by and had the smart idea to bypass the battery and jumpstart via the positive terminal in the fuse box, thus showing me that the starter was fine. Turns out the problem was corrosion inside the cable--Roberto took the clamp apart and cleaned the clamp and cable himself, saving me time, money, and trouble. All through, he was courteous, professional, and good-natured. He really, really gives the business a good name, and I'll make sure Yelp, Angie's List, Facebook, and AAA all hear about it. read more
