I had been speaking with salesman, Caleb Howland, at Bob King Preowned in Wilmington, NC for three weeks about them buying my Dodge Viper. We agreed on a price and awaited a weekend where the weather cooperated for me to bring it in for them to buy. We scheduled a 10am appointment on Saturday. I confirmed it the night before. When I showed up at the dealership, Caleb never materialized. Instead I was handed off to a different salesman who I had never communicated with. The dealership offered me $1500 less than Caleb and I had agreed upon and they wouldn't budge. They said there "must've been a miscommunication." This is exactly why dealerships get such a bad rap. The dishonesty is rampant and there's no accountability for them. They will tell you whatever it takes to get you to give up your time and gas money to walk through their door and then they treat you like a moron. And it costs them nothing. Avoid this place. I love the sales and financing departments and the service staff except; they have one of the most annoying men in the world that keeps coming into the waiting room. He is one of those people who can't help himself from disturbing the peace. I waited for 2 hrs which isn't a problem at all as I was told to expect to wait, but I simply can't take him. I tried to simply ignore him but he doesn't take hints and with what I would say he probably considers harmless picking would not leave me alone for several minutes at one point. We had a TV, water and coffee; I feel there is no need for someone trying to be a comedian making me feel so uncomfortable that I will never put myself thru that again. Luckily I am married and my wife can take our vehicle next time. Will never take my car there ever again!!! Every time I get one issue fixed, I leave with another issue that was perfectly fine before they put their hands on it. They just recently replaced my water pump. After I left, I instantly had a coolant leak. Took it back to them to make sure the seal on my water pump wasn't the issue. Was told it was the heater hose. It had a small leak and other than that it was 100% in perfect condition. We were quoted $900 to fix that.. a part that cost $50! The hose was fixed, and the leak was still happening. After we left, the coolant leak was even worse! Come to find out, the coolant reservoir was cracked at the bolt. I 100% believe they are at fault! They don't want to own up to their mistakes and make it right for their customers! Either their technicians are very incompetent or they are purposely causing their customers more money!!! Update to response: The hose actually wasn't leaking at all!! Which Reuben said was the only issue, and the other thab, the hose leak was 100% in perfect condition. Even though the hose was replaced, the leak continued. Reuben Royal,  who you hired as your service advisor, tried to tell me that the heater hoses weren't even touched during the water pump replacement, when I questioned why they were "damaged"... maybe he needs to be reeducated, but said heater hoses attach to the water pump system.. They must be disassembled to replace it.. correct?!?! .. I should have known not to return to Bob king The last time I had an issue fixed and then had to re-return because your said issue still wasn't fixed, and your service advisor Andrew Wilcoxon said exactly to me "Well sometimes, it takes trial and error to figure out the exact issue, even though I know that cost you more money" What a Bullshit statement and a shitty company!!!! My son needed a new car as he was hit and his BMW 335i was totaled. We found the perfect replacement car the day it arrived at the Bob King dealership. I worked with the sales person and put a $500 deposit to hold the car until we could fly up to Wilmington. Three business days later after making travel plans from Atlanta they called me up to say they sold the car to another buyer????? My 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 quit running on me. I had it towed to the closest GMC dealer which was Bob King. They said the spark plugs, wires, coils, fuel injectors, and push rods were all good. No compression cylinder #5. It was going to cost $1,400 just to tear down and diagnose. Instead, I had the truck towed to Bell and Bell GMC in Little River, SC which is where I bought it and have it serviced. They said $1,400 was excessive. They diagnosed a broken valve spring and cracked spark plug. Total repair bill (minus the tow bills) was less than $500. Truck runs nice and smooth. Bob King tried to scam me into spending thousands of dollars. I will NEVER go back to Bob King for ANYTHING! read more

I own a 2009 Ruby Red Saturn Sky Turbo. It has less than 10K miles on it, garage kept, still looks brand new. It's beautiful, and I want to keep it that way. I recently got a notice from GM that a recall needed to be applied. Since I'm new in town, I looked for a few GM dealerships only to find that Bob King Buick GM was the dealership where I was going to have my car inspected. I spoke with Amy, she set up an appointment for me, and I took the car in for service. Everything went fine, and I have now found my new service dealership. I arrived 10 minutes early for my appointment my car was serviced in a timely fashion and I was out the door within an hour. UPDATE: My second visit for NC safety inspection, oil change, tire rotation, went even a Better than my first visit..!! Hardly Any wait time, the service advisories are great, Kit covered me this time, and handled everything like the professional that he is...!!!! I also met a USMC "patron" in the waiting room... I brought my car here almost three years ago and had a fabulous experience. Prior to that I had been taking my Chevy Malibu (which I had not purchased here) to Bob King for service for 2-3 years. They always take great care to explain what is wrong with the vehicle, make sure you understand the problem and the charges. There is a nice waiting room inside and a waiting area outside, or they offer a shuttle service if you can't wait. Larry Crutchfield was my sales consultant and I cannot say enough good things about him. Crutch, as he's called, actually retired from GMC after many years, so he definitely knows these cars. He took his time to show me several different vehicles that fit my price range, used and new, and I never felt any pressure. When I had questions about certain mechanical things and he couldn't answer them, he went to the service department and returned with an answer. While I was filling out the paperwork for financing, he was making sure the car was washed and my three month free trial of XM radio was ready to go. Every time my car has needed service since then, I have taken my car back to Bob King. I was given four free oil changes for buying the car and one time they accidentally charged me for my oil (I was also getting an inspection so I didn't notice the change right away). When I contacted them about it, they sent me a refund check and another free oil change. My car has run great since the moment I bought it, I got almost 60,000 miles out of my first set of tires. I'm very happy with Bob King, and even though I live in Raleigh now I still take it there for service. read more

Bad Service, poor repair work and overpriced. I initially went to Bob King because I had shopped for a car there. While I ended up buying from another dealer I liked their service. They are close to UNCW, have a courtesy car and usually have the necessary parts on site. This past June I took my car to Bob King because the traction system was malfunctioning. The car was repaired but four weeks later I had the same problem. I took the car back expecting them to fix it at a discounted price since it wasn't done right the first time. Jeff Slagel quoted a price of $189 over the phone which I thought was high but decided to wait until I saw the invoice to protest. When I arrived at Bob King I was told the price was now $230. Apparently Jeff had told me the wrong price. I refused to pay it and we settled on a price of $200. The cashier made a point of letting me know the they were giving me a break ignoring the fact that they failed to diagnose and fix the problem the first time. I made the mistake of giving Bob King a second chance and took my car back for an oil change and to replace the rear hatch supports. Bob King has a special "Multipoint Vehicle Inspection" that included an oil change so I asked for it. Bob King called to tell me the brake pads needed to be replaced and I authorized the work. The bill for the work was $309. The next day I was driving and the "Low Tire Pressure" light came on. I thought it was odd since a tire pressure check was part of the "Multipoint Vehicle Inspection" and the temperature was actually higher than the day before. Fifteen minutes after that light came on the "Check Engine" light also came on. This was annoying. I took the car back a week later since we had some snow and the Bob King was closed. This time I dealt mostly with Elicia (sp?) Sawyer. She called to tell me that the thermostat needed to be replaced and the coolant system needed to be flushed. Total price was over $550. I told her that was too much, after all they obviously didn't do the full inspection the week before and this is the second time I'd had a problem with the repair work. Mrs. Sawyer's tone changed immediately. She acted impatient and annoyed with me. I asked her to send the courtesy van to pick me up so I could retrieve my vehicle. There was some communication break down and I ended up waiting half an hour. Bob King got $100 out of me for the "diagnostic fee". I called their customer service but was directed to voice mail where I left a message. I never received a call back. I got my car and took it to Ted's Exxon the next day. They did the work for half the price. Bob King can't be trusted to competently diagnose problems, their repair work is sub-par and their customer service is rude and indifferent to customer concerns. read more

DO NOT take your vehicle to Bob King for warranty service, or ANY service work, unless you want to get SCREWED!! A couple months ago I brought my company vehicle, a 2019 2500HD Denali in for service , because while hauling a load of gravel, and being forced to apply heavy brakes, due to another motorist, I felt the front left caliper seals blow out and was getting a lot of squealing, as though one or both caliper pistons were no longer retracting properly. This has happened to me more than one in my F350, while hauling loads through Wilmington traffic, so I know what it feels like when it happens. I took the truck in with 30K miles which was still inside the BUMPER TO BUMPER 35K mi. warranty. I told them what happened and that there was a tear in one of the caliper piston boots as a result. They called me back and claimed they could find no tear, which I saw for myself??? They offered to clean the caliper and rotor of "excessively heavy brake dust". (They didnt have to do that to inspect the caliper fully?) I told them that I could clean it just fine, I just want the failed caliper to be replaced while its still under warranty. They INSISTED the caliper was actuating fine and there was NO tear in the dust boot??? So, I picked up the vehicle and put it back to work. The squealing continued. A couple months later it was time for new brake pads. Upon installing the pads, I saw that both front rotors were now wore excessively. I replaced the pads and the passenger rotor, and the driver side pads, but was not willing to eat the cost of the driver side rotor until they made good on replacing the failed caliper. I took the truck back to Bob King. This time they called me back and said the truck was past its 35K warranty and I would have to pay for the repairs! HELL NO!! I explained the situation, and service guy Chris, would not budge from the typical mantra, so I asked to speak to the manager and explain the history, and he too was completely unwilling to accept what I was telling him, and conveniently, much of what I told the service guy originally was "not in their system"?? I explained that I now felt like they had intentionally shirked a justifiable warranty repair the first time, because they knew the truck warranty was about to expire, and WHY would I take my much needed personal business vehicle off the road if there wasnt a justifiable reason? Its what I earn my living with! I then asked them to remove the wheel and inspect the caliper, which they still had refused to do. They pulled the wheel and the service manager John Jackson immediately started talking about fresh wear on the caliper as "damage" from us changing out the pads?? I explained that no, that was where one piston was seizing causing the other to wear more. He refused to fully extend the caliper piston to see the old tear in the boot, and claimed that "I probably did that myself, while doing the brakes"?? but I had JUST done the first brake job EVER and the tear was old from the original visit! He then told the mechanic to put the wheel back on, refused to extend the piston, and told me "Ive seen enough"? He was an cocky, obnoxious, jerk about refusing to argue my points (becasue he KNEW I was right), and when I explained that he was throwing away a future relationship, future vehicle purchases, and service work, over a caliper and new rotor?...he responded" So what, that's fine!" and refused to discuss anything further. I then tried to use my extended warranty for the repair, and he said "No we aren't fixing it, you can take it to Jeff Gorden, we are done here." !! The guy was a HUGE A-HOLE! and they apparently go out of their way to avoid providing ANY warranty service, and will run out the clock on your warranty! They also refused my free oil changes for a yr. and were going to charge for my 2nd, I said NO, and still had a bill waiting for me for putting nitrogen in a low tire, NEVER asked for that! read more

Bought a new 2016 GMC Yukon Denali been in shops twice so far. The first time 4x4 stayed in by itself, then the AC compressor went out and the fuel pump. Today broke down on side of road with my wife and 2 year old son in the car, it died while she was driving and truck almost hit them because she had no power steering no control of vehicle what so ever. Car has less the 37,000 miles. They keep fixing it they want help us get out of it. Worst place I have ever dealt with. They wouldn't call a wrecker I had to which took forever to get there. The secretary told us they was closing in 10 mins and I had to keep calling so I could get a loaner. I mean you pay 80,000.00 for a car you think you would get good service. We talked to General manger last time and they told us we was stuck with car. Well this time if they don't do anything guess it's time for Legal action. I want ever buy anything from them again. He told me what the GMC Canyon would be and what he's give me for my trade and we drove the 80 mile trip and it was well worth it. Everyone I met at this dealer was very pleasant and did not "stalk" us. Butch was just as nice in person as he was on the phone & email. I went in and spoke to the sales manager back in April. I ordered a new gmc Denali 1500 pick up. I was told the vehicle will be arriving in mid July. I told him time was of the essence, needed a vehicle ASAP. He was kind enough to locate one in whiteville, roughly 45 min away from Wilm. I never heard back from bob king in reference to my vehicle that was ordered and suppose to be in by mid July. I was thinking the manufacture was backed up. I drove by their lot on Sept 28th, and they're was 2 new trucks on the lot for sale. I pulled in and spoke to the sales manager and asked him what the status was on my truck I ordered, his reply to me was..."that truck you ordered got sold a few months ago, I figured you bought the truck I referred to you out in whiteville" Told him what made you think think that I was the one that bought it? He said it was an assumption. I asked him about the 2 trucks on the lot, he told me those 2 vehicles have $500 deposits on them. I gave him my phone # again, and asked him to please call me if the sales fall thru. One week later, the 2 vehicles are still on the lot. It was a coincidence that my brother-in-law went in yest, Oct 8th and purchased the white truck, and other one was still up for sale. What's even more crazy is, when the sales manager told me there was deposits on both vehicles, On my way out to leaving, I noticed a sales person showing one of the vehicles to a potential customer, I walked over to him and told him those 2 vehicles have deposits on them and not available for sale. Brought my 2016 YUKON in because the GPS locator was not setting my location accurately. Was determined that I needed a new GPS antenna. Mind you, my bumper2bumper warranty expired 60miles ago. Bob King was going to charge over $550 for a new installed antenna. Within about 30min I found a certified mechanic to do it for $235. (Bob asking charges $225 just for the antenna, found it online at an AC Delco parts store for $98. Bob King's Response was that they guaranteed the part and service, but for what their mark up, I could install the GPS antenna twice, and still be less expensive. So unless your are under warranty, save yourself a lot of $$ and find a good independent mechanic is my advice. read more

BE VIGILANT! I brought my Mercedes in for emissions code repair and to have the yearly inspection. Pros: Courteous front desk receptionist despite an appointment mix up. A loaner car was given. Cons: The service department called me with an estimate of repairs "that have nothing to do with the error codes" per the manager. They suggested $2700 for unneeded repairs which he admitted would have absolutely nothing to do with the error codes, nor would they guarantee a fix for the error codes "once they got into it." They'd said its about "keep replacing parts until it eventually goes out." Money, I have, but do not like to feel shafted when my car is past the standard 3 year warranty of any Mercedes. When I compared the process like that of a doctor who doesn't have to cure you, only provide more tests and runs up your bill, they said "yup, pretty much.". Going to a Mercedes dealership, I figured would cure the problem, albeit 50% more expensive, but I'd had an excellent experience in Raleigh when having my solenoid harness thingy recalled and replaced as well as some electrical issues pleasantly resolved. . This dealership wanted to charge me again for the same harness that has an existing recall, and for a mass air flow sensor that was already replaced a month prior. I'm in healthcare and I tell patients when tests are unneeded. Apparently this doesn't apply to this dealership. I actually considered purchasing the C300 loaner vehicle as a replacement to my older SLK, but having an honest service department was key. They say you tell your bad experiences to 10 people, and they tell 10 people. I've already told people I had to travel 2 hours to a place that charged me $210 for diagnostics THAT I BROUGHT TO THEM from my own code reader. If you can afford to be gouged while dining in a comfortable waiting area with scones and a Keurig, then enjoy the time. But if you worked for your money and prefer honesty and good repair guidance with an estimate for a "confirmed" repair, then go elsewhere. I won't be returning. I took my vehicle to a local foreign car repair shop in New Bern who advised me to drive it 50 miles on a half tank of gas after a cold morning start, while ensuring I drive 25mph, 45mph and 65mph for at least 10 minutes each so the computer could reset all the code sensors and it will passed today with no issues. He didn't want to charge me but I paid him $100 for the honest guidance that would have cost me at least $2700 at BOB KING, and that's without a fix. read more

Horrible customer service. My family has bought five autos from them and convinced me to buy my car there instead of another Honda. A couple months after, we had a hard rain and my sunroof leaked. They said they fixed it but next hard rain a couple months later it flooded my car again. This time my warranty was out by a couple weeks and they told me to leave them alone, and the girl behind the counter got loud before I could even explain that I thought there must be a warranty on services performed under warranty. I bought a Yukon from these guys and today I took it in for an inspection to another service center. I failed my inspection because the window tint was too dark. I called Bob King to tell them sold me a car that was essentially illegal to drive because of the window tint. I asked them to pay for a new tint on the window and they indirectly accused me of lying and questioned my integrity. They did offer to replace it if I came to their dealership but I live two hours away which would cost me more if I did it in town. These guys are shady plain and simple. I have bought a lot cars in my life and I have never dealt with a dealership that is as deceitful and corrupt than this dealership. Do not buy a car from these clowns and definitely do not buy a used a car. On a side note...this is not the first nor the second or third issue with this car. The a/c had issues from day one, the battery caught on fire after about 2k mile and the list goes on. I really got screwed on this one. read more

Went to look at a used car. I was told by Justin someone was driving it. So went in later and asked for Justin, another salesperson said he will call him. After 5 minutes the sales person said " there is a misunderstanding, the ford focus is at our ford store getting some recall/warranty work done, it would be available in a couple of weeks.
