Was really excited to see this pace open up but alas another place that doesn't live up to the hype. This one is located at 2nd&PCH, around the corner from Lululemon. It's not a full location but looks more like a pop up location. Waited probably about 25mins from the line to ordering to getting my drinks. Saw a lot of the employees socializing with friends, maybe that's why it was taking longer for the drinks to come out. That said, I'm ok with waiting if the end product is worth the wait. The drinks are just ok, nothing amazing that I would go back for. It was honestly way to sweet for my liking even with adjustments to the sugar level (ordered the HK Milk Tea at 50% sugar). Note, the strawberry matcha latte can not have the sweetness adjusted...this one was way too sweet for me. I took two sips and stopped. Tried stirring it even more so I wasn't getting all of the strawberry purée at once but it still didn't help. Disappointed for sure as it is a pretty drink but the taste just isn't there. The strawberry overpowered the matcha completely. The Hong Kong Milk tea was also not great. No actual tea taste. It tasted like watered down milk. I left with two disappointing drinks and don't think I'd come back here to try anything else (not worth going out of my way to come back here). Finally, they have it in the OC area and parking isn't as bad compare to LA or SF! This place is located in an alleyway behind lululemon and next to barry's bootcamp! It is an outdoor boba shop and it does get quite windy and cold where they are located. They are plenty of outdoor seats and a few heat lamps. Customer service is amazing and very sweet. The drink I always get is the strawberry tea fresca! My top favorite boba drink so far. It doesn't have a tea after taste and can be sweet. I personally like sweet but I find that it is still subtle in flavor. Its definitely a refreshing drink and perfect for summer. I tried the matcha latte which is also really good. The drinks I didn't like was the strawberry matcha latte, which was too sweet and you can't adjust the sweetness in it. There a few season drinks I tried but wasn't a big fan due to lack of flavor. Many of the drinks you are unable to adjust the sweetness because it is already pre made. You can always create your own drink to have any adjustment made. I definitely would recommended trying but not something you have to go out of your way for. read more

I had the best boba of my life at this place. i had the Tropic Thunder and WOW! it was perfect! i selected this because it was one of the first "non-dairy" drinks that i came across- this perfect drink has: mango puree layerd with coconut milk and is topped with chunks of muddled grapefruit. i also sprang to add the boba for an extra .50 cents. about that--- is it me or do you agree that if the place is called BOBA GUYS that the boba should come standard?? why do i have to pay extra?? but i digress. my drink was PERFECT. and the chunks of grapefruit on the top ... how have i never had this before? Tropic Thunder is a must try! another critique- their straws are cardboard and are difficult to get into the straw hole on the lid. do yourself a favor and insert your straw while your drink is on a counter/table. the cups are a little flimsy so you are going to have some over spill... we all had over spill. anyway- once you get your straw in, enjoy your delicious drink and tip from the wise-- if you have your own boba straw, bring it. as for ordering during COVID- it is online only. i almost didn't bother thinking that it would be a hassle but it was actually pretty easy. you go to their web-page, select which location you'd like to order from then just select whatever you'd like to order from the main screen by selecting the item. This interface is honestly one of the most simple that i have used during COVID. The only thing that would have made it easier would have been if you were able to pay with Apple pay. Google pay and a few other options were available but not Apple pay-- bummer. read more

Cashiers talking in the back only to walk to the bar and demand my order after I've waited unnecessarily. Just yesterday they were out of hot drink cups, which seems to happen every few months. I ordered the instagrammable strawberry matcha latte with oat milk and boba. I can say the boba was very chewy and delicious but the drink tasted a lot like eating the Kellogg's Special K with strawberries cereal. This was an interesting experience for a drink that cost close to $5, and given its strong SF presence I'm glad I got to try it once here in Long Beach, but I'm not sure if it's worth it to me to come back again. The drinks are really Americanized and not catered so much to a special asian tea experience. I think I'm still biased towards ding tea. I'm glad that they are eco friendly in providing bamboos straws, but if you're trying to go more eco friendly you still use plastic cups. Somewhat of a catch 22. read more

Located in this new plaza in long beach called 2nd and pch. They have a line on the outside and you order on the right side. They have a variety of selections but the one I got was the matcha latte. I honestly love matcha a lot so i get it every where I go. The other drink i got was a dirty horchata. Tried to give a new drink a shot. The matcha latte had honey on the bottom so just make sure to mix it properly so youre not gulping a chunk of honey. They take very long to make your drinks but I guess its worth the wait since its pretty good. The matcha latte was very good. I will for sure get it again next time. The dirty horchata though. I've been wanting to stop by this place for awhile and they finally opened one closer to my house (yay)! It is located in this super cute new mall area right on PCH. Thankfully parking is complimentary right now because this place does not validate parking. It is an outside store and doesn't have inside seating, but there are a few tables outside though! As for the drinks they were really good. I ordered the matcha strawberry latte because that is what they said was the most popular and it was really good. It wasn't too sweet even though I had 100% sweetness. The drink is also really aesthetically pleasing because of the three layers. The hong kong tea wasn't bad, but not really for me. It was more of a bitter tea. The jasmine green tea has to be my favorite though. I got 75% sweetness. I like drinks where I can actually taste the tea but is still sweet. Each of the drinks had boba in them and it was pretty standard. They also have different milk options like almond and oat. Huge disappoint and letdown. I was jumping up and down from excitement that they opened here, and I've never tried it in the bay area, Boba Guys is a big hype. The first drink I tried was the red bean latte. The drink is mixed very well!! But the big negative is the boba. It was pretty hard and tasteless. It appears that they do not turnover boba frequently instead they probably boil a huge batch and let it sit til served. Man, if this is how they serve their boba in the bay area, then socal is definitely a different market. One other thing I noticed is that their pastries are stored in a big plastic looking Tupperware container. When someone orders one, they open the lid and pick it out. What a way to present your product. I know they just opened the store despite they are supposed to be seasoned at this but analyzing the store, it's so poorly designed! The first time I tried the Boba Guys was in NY and was so excited that they opened one in Long Beach! ~ 5 stars for boba being fresh and chewy ~ 5 stars for drinks being tasty (their recommendation was 50% sweet so it was perfect...can't imagine what 100% sweet is like *probably way too sweet) ~ 2.5 stars for the wait ....we waited 25 mins for our drinks ~ 3 stars for service...some of the guys are friendly and some guys are just dry. Me, "hi how are you?" The worker, "good." No smile, no nothing. Dry, I tell ya. ~ 3 stars for location with no walls...it was cold and the draft comes from both ends out in the open. I get the open concept but even they have to go in and out a door to bring drinks out and have their own personal heater at the cashier so it's just different and I wasn't a fan. The open concept also welcomes lots of dust. You can see it on the black cashier box. So imagine where the dust is landing on too....which leads me to... ~ 2 stars for the guy that was wearing black gloves going in and out of the door, to the register to take orders and restock on their bamboo boba straws with the same gloves. Mind you, the boba straws are not individually wrapped. He opened a bag and stocked the container all while touching all the tops of them with the same glove! Another lady waiting for her drink noticed and we looked at each other and asked "ummm did he just do what we think he did and use the same glove?" That was a big no no. ~ Overall, the drinks a and boba were great. I'll be back but hope they take into consideration my review and make changes on how they restock straws. read more

Orange County has a dearth of boba shops, this one stands out because its in a fancy mall; drinks are generally more creamy and you can really taste the "pulp." One thing, the dirty horchata was not sweet. What HORCHATA is not sweet? It's good for people with high blood pressure, though. read more

This location is in the new shopping center at 2nd and PCH. I ordered the red bean latte with almond jello. My daughter had the caramel matcha latte with boba. Both drinks were seasonal flavors. Each drink was excellent. The caramel matcha latte has to be shaken well. Before it is mixed, it looks very pretty with 3 separate colors. The red bean is not sweet which I liked. The almond jello tastes just like the Hawaiian version. Servers are very nice. The straws are made of very sturdy cardboard. Not a big choice of drinks but good quality. The first drink I tried here was the horchata with pudding at 75% sweetness. My boyfriend had the Hong Kong style with boba at 75% also. Now my thoughts... The horchata seemed to be missing something in taste. The color was very opaque and was just milk with some cinnamon powder. I think they use regular fructose syrup instead of condensed milk for sweetener. I ordered 75% sweet level but I think it came out more like 25%. I don't have a sweet tooth either. The pudding is $1 extra and it was gross! :( Not sweet at all! The pudding texture was also similar to hard, blocky jello. I thought the pudding would be creamy. And it was white!!! Maybe they use only egg whites to make the pudding? Just my guess from what I observed. The Hong Kong wasn't anything special in my opinion. We were expecting new, exciting tastes but came out disappointed. I wouldn't come back for the horchata or Hong Kong tea though. The customer service was great, and the set up looks good. Maybe we just got a bad batch of pudding? Or maybe it's new employees making the drinks? Don't know.
