I'm not a huge matcha fan, but their strawberry matcha latte with boba is surprisingly my go to. Usually I would go for a brown sugar milk tea type of situation. The strawberry and matcha go really well together. I love how their boba pearls are chewy. It does get pretty busy here. I would also say that if you decide on coming here, there's only street parking so plan accordingly. I have tried this with regular milk and oat milk. I think I prefer it with oak milk! They have different toppings to choose from and you can also choose your sweetness level. If you're not a big boba person, they have tea and coffee. I marked down one star because their strawberry and match ratio for the strawberry matcha latte is inconsistent. With literally 10 minutes to spare, and yes, no one wants to be that person, but we were the only ones running in to order a quick drink to go. The store is immaculately clean, they have the cutest displays of merch, and a few tables for sitting and enjoying your drink, and maybe a nibble. The menu isn't very extensive, but there's definitely enough to choose from. The drinks aren't overly sweet, but they have a nice light flavor to them. The pearls are delicious! The strawberry matcha latte was tasty with the balance between the sweet strawberry puree and earthy matcha. You cannot adjust the sweetness of this drink since the sugar is in the strawberry puree, but the barista offered to put in less puree to make it less sweet. There is some seating indoors along the window, but it's mostly standing only. There's lots of other good food on this block and street, as well a public outdoor park and seating area just down the block. I ordered off the secret menu (available only to regulars who unlock the level in their app) and got the Founders's Favorite It's coffee with ube and banana milk. So pretty and tasty! Other favorites include the Hojicha Latte with kuromitsu syrup and the Black Sesame Layyr, as well as the Butternut Squash Latte, but that's a seasonal special they haven't brought back in a while. Mark is working the Wednesday night shift, and I come in with a backpack on my bike and the cup lid is not sealed like in a lot of other boba shops. So I'm like, cooked by the time I get home. I love boba guys and found this one open near me so was excited to have it as my go-to when I'm craving a classic but good black milk tea. The boba was great the first time I came but seems to be inconsistent in quality the following times. My go-to is always get the classic black milk tea with boba and 50% sweet and default straus milk. It seems some of the staff members (there was a boy the first time I went and it was good) and the other times when I got the boba it was more on the diluted side (an older women, maybe the manager?). When the boy was there the boba was just a bit stronger and perfect. The third time I came the older woman was there again and the milk tea was diluted again, the nice cassia milk tea that I loved going to boba guys for was just almost but not there. Overall okay, but if the consistency of the quality of the flavor in the boba is fixed it'd be a 5 star. read more

We were up in SF for a bit, and we've heard our buddies talking about Boba Guys. So we decided to try it out. I got the hojicha latte because I was in the mood for some kind of green tea. My husband got a black tea. Both teas were pretty good. You can really taste the tea. Not nearly my favorite boba, but it was still good. The teas aren't too sweet. It's not my first time trying Boba Guys nor my first time trying this location. I've been a customer for a couple of years now, spanning back to when their strawberry matcha drink held the boba spotlight. Previously I never lived close enough to a location to become a regular, but I recently started frequenting the area around this location and it has received the majority of my boba business as the de facto boba shop within walking distance. I'm still not accustomed to SF boba prices and the drinks here are definitely on the pricier side. I've tried the mango jasmine fresca with aloe jelly, rose black tea with boba, Hong Kong milk tea with boba, ube latte with boba, and Thai tea with boba. I've ordered with the casher in-person, at the kiosk in-store, and online through the boba guys website. Most of the time I'm walking the dog so I have to do the obligatory "walk in while holding the dog in my arms," but the staff have always been friendly and accommodating whenever I come in. When I decided to try the mango jasmine fresca, I was actually a little bummed that there was a passion fruit jasmine fresca which was exclusive to New York because that sounds much better to me personally. I usually get crystal boba with my fruit teas so I was surprised to discover that Boba Guys actually doesn't do crystal boba--they only have regular boba, almond jelly, chia seeds, and aloe jelly. Going in I thought the mango jasmine would be more like a Starbucks refresher, but I want to say that it was on the sweeter side to be considered refreshing. Boba Guys also doesn't formally do a sweetness adjustment for a lot of their drinks--when I ordered the Hong Kong milk tea I agreed to add more black tea to make it less sweet but for the ube latte they would have to take out some ube puree so naturally I opted to leave it as it because everyone knows that puree is the good stuff. Boba Guys will stay a reputable and reliable chain in my book, and as long as I'm in SF I'll know that it's a solid option for satisfying any boba craving. I do appreciate how they keep the menu fresh with a variety of seasonal offerings but and I would recommend them to anyone who is a boba modernist (likes coffee with their boba, cloud foams, drinks with multiple layers, uncommon offerings). For those that are more traditionalist, the Hong Kong milk tea and Thai tea are definitely done well here. For those with furry friends that feel equally bad leaving them outside as you do bringing them inside and end up carrying them, the staff at this location have always been proactive in getting me set up with a drink carrier, flat-bottom bag, and straws in the bag when they see me with my hands full. read more

Maybe my expectations were just too high, since anyone who drinks boba knows the name Boba Guys, and it was once touted to be the BEST boba in the states. I was so excited to give Boba Guys a try after seeing countless posts on my Instagram about their Strawberry Matcha Latte. I asked the girl working a million questions because I wanted my drink to be perfect so I could go home and tell all my hawaii friends how amazing they were. I ended up getting the Strawberry Matcha Latte with less sweetness (the girl said it would just be less of the strawberry sauce) and no ice. What she didn't tell me was that no ice meant no cute gradation, and that they'd just fill the cup with milk. I used to work at a boba shop and whenever we made drinks with no ice, we'd make 1.5x the standard recipe instead of diluting it with milk so I was under the assumption that they'd do the same. I got my drink, which ended up just looking like a regular matcha latte, and all I could taste was the milk. I got hints of strawberry, and pretty much no matcha taste whatsoever. the boba was a lot firmer than I would've liked, but had a nice taste to it. I ended up tossing half my drink, as it was pretty much just drinking a green cup of sweetened milk. To say I was thoroughly disappointed is a pretty big understatement. I posted about my experience on my instagram and a good 10 SF locals responded confirming my speculations, that Boba Guys is just way overrated and that "there are better boba shops around". read more

Let me start by saying I am (or was) a fan of Boba Guys but the last 3 times I've been here I have been disappointed at this location. The drink and the boba have been very inconsistent here. The boba at Boba Guys usually known as some of the best around was very hard and flavorless. When I tried to mention this to the store, the girl at the counter told me that it's only good for about 4 hours so it really depends on when you come to the store She said it's not as good later in the day. The ambiance inside is very modern & welcoming with a table for indoor seating as well as great lighting. I ordered two drinks; a matcha latte with almond milk & strawberry purée as well as a decaf black tea with almond milk & coconut purée. Ordered the mango matcha boba with 50% sweetness. Don't forget to mix it! All the mango puree is on the bottom so your first sip will be so sweet. Once you mix it, you get a good blend of match and mango. But I must say, I felt like the matcha cause a gritty taste. Not sure if it was just my drink and the matcha wasn't mixed as well. The boba was a good consistancy. I just feel like boba has gotten so expensive. The drink itself was $6 plus they charge you an additional 75 cents for boba. Love going to any Boba Guys when I'm in the city, any time really! I've had pretty much everything on their menu, which is all good. So, narrow it down by perhaps what you're craving, how sweet, caffeinated or not etc. This time, I went home with their Furikake Chex mex, and Pandan popcorn, both by Sunday -- loved them! I did also try their mini mochi muffins, which were sadly tasteless -- very schooling, and sad. The baggy came with 4 mini ones and not one flavor stood out, yet they all sounded amazing. It def could use more flavoring and/or be fresh. That was the other thing, they looked a bit old, and they stuck to the bag, although the date was still current. A bit confusing.
