I don't know what they use but their slushees are very different from other places I've been to; something like you can only taste their uniqueness there. We ordered 4 drinks, three of which were Avocado smoothies and 1 was a Thai smoothie. I thought California banned powered flavored drinks? I over heard the staff say "get more avocado powder!", which kind of turned us off a bit. The avocado smoothies ended up tasting like coconut, but the Thai smoothie was fine. I've been coming to this place since I was high school - so 18 years now. It's the same owner since then and because she recognizes my family she is always super sweet. I'm always amazed by how clean the place is because I can look at where the drinks and snacks are being made and it's always very clean. There are so many boba places around my area but I always seem to end up at Boba Ya. It's small and hidden, but it's also right off a very busy street. The boba in my opinion is fresh but a little bland. Nice and chewy, but it lacks the sugary flavor. Maybe the matcha latte that I ordered was sweeter than expected and cut out most of the sweetness from the boba, but there didn't seem to have much flavor. The matcha latte was really good though. I'm not a huge fan of matcha because I always think they are underwhelming. The photo on the counter make this matcha look intriguing so I couldn't resist this time. There was a lot of matcha flavor and although the drink was sweet, it did not taste overly sugared. My mom got team with jelly in it and she enjoyed her drink as well. She asked for no sugar and it tasted as expected. The menu is large and has a lot of things to choose from. They also sell food and snacks along with their boba and drinks. We ordered a sweet waffle and a taiyaki with custard filling. The two snacks were made to order and fresh. For the price, it was pretty good (about $2 each). I think the boba price was average as well. The staff was friendly and did not slack off when making drinks and preparing our order which I appreciate a lot. In the past, the wait wasn' too long either and the staff has always been friendly. Overall, good place. Average compared to other boba stores. I'm conflicted because the environment is great, lounge feeling with games, free popcorn (when the machine works), and drinks and snacks. But the bubble tea, which is what the name is based on, isn't the flagship product you would expect. I've been twice and received conflicting information about the milk teas. Once I was told that yes I could get a milk tea with jasmine green tea, and another time told that it was based on a pre-made mix that incorporated black tea. The taro milk tea is a single exception, clear from the strong purple color and distinct taste. I usually don't write reviews, but the owner of this boba shop has poor hygeine for someone who serves food. He didn't wash his hands when he walked back into the store from his car, doing who knows what. He started making drinks and rinsing dishes at the same time, but it didn't look like the dishes were washed at all. I decided to cancel my drink and avoid any food poisoning. I hope people take caution coming here. I'm pretty sure the only reason they're still in business is because they're the only boba shop open past 10pm and they have a larger than average lobby for students to study at. read more
