We came here to watch a big football game and had an awesome time! We ordered a bbq chicken pizza and Caesar salad. The pizza crust was amazing, but we were really shocked that the pizza was made with red sauce as the base instead of bbq sauce. The Caesar salad dressing tasted like straight up anchovies. This is such a fun and lively place. I'm always drawn towards Bobby G's on the weekend because of the super fun atmosphere and jazz band that frequents right outside! My friend and I came here and found the service to be great as well. We ordered a margherita pizza which had great flavor and a perfectly crispy and chewy crust. We also got the garlic bread and marinara sauce to start, but I'd probably pass on this next time as the flavor is a bit underwhelming. Not only is every single item of Bobby's menu delicious and thoughtfully made, they are truly a part of the community. The owner Randeep makes everyone feel at home, and goes the extra mile to know his regulars. He also staffs extremely kind people. You don't get this kind of service many places. Even when they were only doing to go, they accommodated to their guests as much as possible. Food and drink wise: they always have Pliny the Elder, either on draft of bottled. If you haven't had that ipa, get it next time. They have hands down the best wings I've ever had. This sounds weird but if you've read my reviews you know I love sauce. The ranch here will have you coming back. I crave it with things I cook at home. The blue cheese also hits different. The pizza is all delicious. Definitely tried their pan fried pizzas. My latest addiction is the caprese salad. The paninis are huge!!! If you're lucky Randeep might be cheffin it up and you'll get that extra love. They're always playing sports, hosting live music, or finding other ways to entertain. We order pizza for take-out from Bobby G's and it never disappoints: cheesy, savory, tasty pizza with big slices. I enjoy driving downtown and popping in to pick it up -- it's always lively inside and outside with sports on TV and friends enjoying pizza and beer on Friday nights. Someday I'll meet friends and eat in -- either inside or in the parklet -- ideally when they have a live band jamming in the corner outside. Sad to write this review. We had been excited to hear Bobby G's had a new owner, as we've been a number of times in the last couple years and always enjoyed the food / beer / etc, but thought the potential was there for so much more (updates to interior ambiance etc.) to be a neighborhood gem. The mildew smell when we went inside should have tipped us off, but we proceeded to order a couple fried pizzas (seriously, these are typically really good) and a Pliny and sat outside. The Pliny did not taste fresh or particularly cold and the pizza has gone downhill rapidly. Dough tasted stale, and the toppings were not good either. We ate about a slice each, left the rest on a trash can for someone who needed it, and got food at Masa down the street (that place is great btw). Lots to improve upon here, and there's a good base for it, but we won't be going back anytime soon unfortunately. read more

First time at Bobby G's pizza last night the pizza was great & came out quickly! customer service was horrible guy on register was very rude about the sitting an seemed annoyed of taking our order. I repeated the order multiple times because he couldn't understand me for whatever reason. As soon as it hit 10pm they asked for our chairs and said they were closed locked up and made us wait outside while our friend was in the restroom. The Margherita pizza was to be perfectly honest really mediocre so that pizza gets 2 stars; the cheese wasn't really melty and even after microwaving a slice it was still...meh. The Triple Mushroom Pizza was fantabulous and suuuuper flavorful. I give the Triple Mushroom Pizza 5 stars. I have been going to Bobby G's for a few years now. Always a great place to chill, grab a beer and go watch a game. A great neighborhood place. Well things are changing at Bobby G's. My boyfriend and I were recently in there and the place is better than ever. They'be done some renovating but it's still neighborhood. It's like Cheers in Berkeley as a fellow patron said. The staff and owner are all wonderful and nice and accommodating. John at the bar is a friend of mine (see what I did there). Super great, nice guy. And then there is Mike. A great guy who always has a smile. And lastly. The food. It has greatly improved. The owner comped us a delicious melon salad that I am going to steal and make at home. She said that they were trying out new items. I hope that makes the menu. I'm a little hesitant in posting this review as it is a neighborhood place, however, I really hope they keep attracting new customers because they are doing great and deserve success. Pliny the Younger brought me here, and I'm so glad it did. So, do you know about this beer? It comes out once a year, select bars and restaurants get a barrel, they usually sell tickets beforehand and you're allowed 1. My husband and I ventured picked up tickets and returned to enjoy our PTY and try out some pizza. And I gotta give it up, Bobby G's really showed up. First: they have a ton of pizza varieties, both red sauce and without. They even have a thing called pan fried pizza. I must come back for that, fo' sho. Along with pizza, they have a nice selection of salads and paninis. We ended up getting a very large white pizza topped with fresh arugula for about $28 (they do also have a smaller available). It was huge: lunch for 3 and dinner for 1 with the leftovers. I guess at the price, it kind of does need to be on the larger size. Great dough: not too thick and not thin crust, fresh and quality toppings and cooked well. My father-in-law opted to get the ham and gruyere panini. This panini was straight up on steroids. Large pieces of bread sandwich thick cuts of ham (this ain't your deli meat style ham, but more like that Easter honey baked ham) and copious amounts of cheese, caramelized onions and a hint of mustard. Yeah, what a sleeper hit. The place has a little bar, with a few stool, and what seems to be a really extensive craft beer selection. Seating wise, it has a bunch of tables, like a regular pizzeria. 5 stars for the ambiance and 3 stars for the food. My sister and I got a half a chopped salad, 12" Margherita pizza with sausage added, and a pitcher of Dry Apple Cider. The highlight of our food and drink order was probably the sausage they used. The crust had a nice crunch to it, although it was also a tad dry, which took away from the chew I usually like to have in pizza crusts. The tomato sauce they used reminded me of Totino's frozen pizza. The salad was fine and pretty straightforward. They used quite a bit of dressing. For bar food, it was fine, and maybe I would have enjoyed it more if we started eating later in the night. Finally, our pitcher of Dry Apple Cider was flat, as I overheard someone say that they had just run out of Dry Apple Cider after we placed our order. It made sense that the tap was out and that the cider that night was lacking. I'm assuming it isn't always like that. The service was good overall, which I always appreciate. The guys running the bar and food counter were polite and prompt. Now, this was a VERY fun place to watch a Warriors game, and I'm not even a big basketball fan these days. We were there for the 2022 Western conference finals, and the crowd was diverse and lively. The experience of just hanging out at this place was a great way to spend an evening. The food and drinks were secondary. I'd go back to check out a game or other event that they might be broadcasting here. 3 words: pan.fried.pizza. Thin and flaky crust with a generous smattering of goat cheese, mushrooms, and truffle oil, it's the kinda food where you're sad when it's gone. (Yes, I mourn when I finish something truly delicious). At $14, it's a little more expensive than I typically like to pay for a personal sized pizza. But I guess you gotta splurge every once in a while. With that said, Bobby G's is a bit pricey. I was willing to pay a premium for my delicious pizza, but the beer prices are a little bit unmanageable, which puts a damper on trivia night. They're pretty much all between $7-$10 for 12-16 oz. I guess as long as you're not the worst trivia team, you can make up some of those costs. The top three teams win gift cards, and there generally don't seem to be more than four or five teams there. read more

Bad pizza and slow preparation...generous 2 stars cause servers were nice. I ordered a cheese slice and sausage slice, took about 10 minutes to be brought out despite being fairly empty. Not much visible love the way the ground-up sausage (a "premium ingredient"?!?) seems dumped on the slice (see picture). But it all comes down to taste...sorry to say not good. Picking up each slice was like picking up a piece of wood - no bend/flex of the dough at all, just stayed perfectly horizontal. I know not all pizza is droopy-NY Style, but no bend at all?!? Perhaps that's just the desired style but sure seemed very overdone....and flavorless. Fantastic spot for ambiance, music, and delicious, affordable food! Six of us came here one Saturday night and listened to the live music while enjoying their pizza and drinks. The people who work here are really easy-going yet also able to keep up with the pace of the heavy influx of customers. Since we got here on the early side (8 pm), we had no problem getting seats, but if you get here an hour or so later it might be harder to snag a spot. So far they're only serving a limited menu (meaning only NY style pizza, with no starters or other kinds of pizza as advertised on their menu), but I'm a fiend for NY pizza (having grown up in NJ) so I was happy with this limited selection. IMO the single slice ($3.50) seems thinner than the regular pie (small) so if you like your pizza thin, I'd opt for getting it by the slice. Bobby G's NY-style pizza is the best NY-style pizza I've had in Berkeley. Very happy that it's right in the heart of downtown and also super affordable (as pizza should be)! Easily my favorite pizza I've had in the Bay since I moved here a year ago. I used to really love Rotten City pizza but I've gotten burnt pizzas the past few times going and it's just way too expensive too get a burnt pizza. Then my friend recommended Bobby G's as an alternative. I'm so glad I took him up on the suggestion! About similar in price to Rotten City, this place just won my heart. We got the Meat Lovers Pizza and the Triple Mushroom Pizza and both were incredible. I First came here 4 years ago, wound up playing music trivia teaming up with a group of college students. Had a great time. Since then, it was purchased by two brothers who have done a great job bringing local beers on tap into their establishment and they cycle some through weekly. To the patrons of Bobby G's and to anyone that has not been to this horrible pizza place: these are some of the unscrupulous people that we dealt with when we dined here a few nights ago. First of all, the ingredients were the lowest possible quality that one can use to serve an overpriced pizza. Every single ingredient were canned based products. The dough and the cheese was atrocious, with no taste whatsoever. Please note, they overcharge you if you do not ask the price before you place the order. They have the audacity to charge these exorbitant prices when they are just a few blocks away from Cheeseboard (a million times better than Bobby G's), Chez Panisse, and Sliver, just to name a few that can compete so much better and are superior in ever aspect of a pizza pie. Just wanted to preface this with--I have not written a bad review in.. eons. Anyway! My Boyfriend raved about the fried pizza from here--he owns a business around the corner and has frequented Bobby G's a few times. I never got to try it so we agreed to pick it up for dinner. We ordered the spinach salad, mushroom+truffle+goat cheese pizza and the sausage+onion+pepper fried pizzas. The pizzas took 30 minutes to come and when we opened up the boxes the crusts of the pizzas were burnt. I asked my boyfriend if it was like this last time, and he said no it didn't look like that at all. So I went to check yelp to find some photos to see if I could do a comparison... and as expected none of the photos looked like our charred burnt sad excuse of a pizza. I decided to bring the pies up to one of the employees and asked "... is this what the crust is supposed to look like?" His reply: "yes" At this point, I thought I was crazy. Was burnt pizza crust the new normal around here? Who enjoys burnt pizza crust? Maybe the same people who like burnt toast--I'm not sure those people could be trusted. My boyfriend decided to ask the waitress the same question and she actually agreed with us. She even offered to get us a new order made or a round of drinks. At this point--we didn't care to wait any longer so we said it's ok. We just wanted the OBVIOUSLY - burnt cardboard pizza to be acknowledged. I wish the guy would have at least acknowledged that something didn't look right and offered to fix it. We both have years of restaurant experience and know how much it can help to at least attempt to make things right for your patrons. A simple--"I'm sorry" or something to that extent helps. NY Style Pizza: individual slice $2.5/ small (12") $13/ Large (18") $20. Extra toppings: .50/ $1.3/ $1.8. Bobby G's signature pizzas either Small or Large..why no medium? Sicilian pizzas/ Bobby G's pan fried pizzas/ pasta/ panini & sandwiches/ dessert/ drinks. For 3 people we got: Large pizza with half Sausage & Mushroom $23.75 and BLT $22.75 - dang, should have got meat lovers pie or clam & garlic pie instead of half BLT. BLT was the weakest because lettuce just doesn't go well with pizza. I liked the Sausage & Mushroom half better. I wish I looked at the paper menu because it had clam & garlic on there, not on the board one. I would have liked that instead of the BLT. Our large pizza w/ Half sausage & mush pizza & Half BLT was $25.29 including tax = we split it for total $8.43pp. A Large pizza has 8 big slices, so for 3 of us we had 2 slices each then had to split 2 slices. My guy found Bobby G's Pizzeria on the schedule for SF Beer Week and wanted to try it out. It has two of the things he loves the most, pizza and beer. We brought along my sister. She loves a good craft beer and Stone Brewing Co took over a few taps. We all ordered the same beer which was a special IPA Saison blend. Fantastic. We all had a slice of cheese pizza, which was pretty cheap like $3 a slice. They have so many kinds and toppings, but we were not even that hungry and just craved a regular cheese slice. The place was pretty crowded, so we shared a table with another patron, who was pretty nice to let us join him. I rarely crave pizza, but the Shroom pizza at Bobby G's is definitely going to be a recurring character in my food dreams. I got the large, which is ridiculously huge-- if you are wondering if $29 is expensive, the answer is that it's actually a good deal. I could only eat two pieces before being ridiculously stuffed. The crust was crisp all the way through (no soggy center!), quite the feat on such a large pizza. The combination of goat cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, and mushrooms was just heavenly. I didn't taste much of the truffle oil, but it was probably overpowered by the sun-dried tomatoes. Hands down the best pizza I've had in a long time. I will be back just for this pizza! I've also gotten to try the pesto pizza and their garlic bread. I would recommend adding some toppings to the pesto pizza (sun-dried tomatoes or mushrooms would be perfect!), because otherwise it's a bit plain. The garlic bread was perfectly crunchy and oh so garlicky! There was fresh garlic, which I'm a sucker for on garlic breads. Came in here after an A's game last month and we were starving! There was hardly anyone here and it was all around very quiet on a Sunday evening. The cashier was super friendly and definitely fit the Berkeley look (awesome colored hair, piercings, tattoos etc.) Stuffed cheesy bread (5 stars) - Holy crap this stuff is amazing! I mean, who doesn't enjoy a big glob of yummy cheese wrapped in delicious bread with really great ranch on the side?!
