I am usually not a steakhouse fan, where heavy handed use of salt/butter, breathless descriptions of the steaks' preparation/cooking and expense accounts usually abound. In contrast Bobo's felt like a neighborhood restaurant and had really tasty, well-seasoned dishes. Butter was still in full effect, but wasn't used as a substitute for real cooking. Having just returned from Argentina, I thought I knew a few things about good beef. However, I had the bone-in filet mignon and it was one of the most flavorful, tender cuts of meat I've ever had. Ceasar salad and sides (twice-baked potato, baked yam, sauteed spinach) were all decent , but this place is all about the meat and the huge cuts leave little room for anything else. Service was relaxed and didn't have any of the clubby, faux pretension of other stakehouses. And dishes were plated on on fun art deco place settings. OK, my bone in fillet was good--not terrific, our Hamachi starter was too Ponzu-ed up, and our onion ring side was greasy as hell--couldn't eat them. However, the twiced baked potatoes were great. My GF had a petite fillet, and it was way petite--almost a Scooby snack for sure. A bit underwhelming to say the least, and the the jerks sitting next to us made it even worse. I really did not care how many lap dances he had before he nailed the stripper--although I doubt he actually did score. Bobo's. Ugh. I almost gave it 2 stars. But I've had a 5-star experience there as well. It's just soooooooooooooooo inconsistent. I've been a few times and have sent a number of people there, but no longer go or recommend it because the experience (both service and food) is just so wildly inconsistent. I've mainly had the steak there, but have tried some of the seafood. They haven't had my favorite app there for a while, a bacon-wrapped scallop they used to have. Yum, that was great. Friends have had the mussels (I'm not a mussels guy) and said they were OK, not great. Apps in general are good, not great, here. Cocktails are really delicious, I've tried a bunch of them. Especially like the Basil Martini, very refreshing. The vibe is cool. Good looking staff and when the place is busy it's a really cool feel. When it's slow, the place just feels weird. The layout is sort of weird and I think it impacts the service. Just tough to navigate the place and leads to some weird timing issues with food coming out and stuff. I and friends have tried a number of the steaks, my favorites have been the bone-in filet and strip. Which have sometimes been perfect. And other times they have just plain sucked. So weird. Friends have had similar experiences. I haven't tried the crab. The sides I had were all quite good. The chocolate mousse filled "dunce cones" are delicious and a really great dessert. If this place were like my best visits there, it would be up there with Harris' as my top steak place. But it has been just way too inconsistent. Yes, I have eaten at Boboquivari's and like everyone else, I loved the flavor. Expensive price aside, I want everyone to note that they advertise "corn-fed beef". Anyone who has read the book "The Omnivore's Dilemma" by Michael Pollan knows cows are not meant to eat corn. Cows are grazers and their entire digestive system is designed for eating grass. Humans are force-feeding them corn and then brainwashing the consumer with the notion this "corn-fed beef" taste is most desirable. I had not read this book before my visit to Boboquivari's. If I do return, I will be ordering seafood and asking the chef to consider serving grass-fed beef. read more

It's surprising that I've been here for 13 years, live in the neighborhood and never went to Bobo's! I thought it was a bit of a touristy place but to my surprise yesterday it is one of the cutest spot i've been in! The decor is adorable, all red with Italian masks all over, 3 levels of fun, though the ones I liked best was the first and last floors. Now onto the food: My oh MY! We got the Iron Skillet mussels and shrimps to start. Very good! they're already seasoned in garlic and butter (they do provide extra butter for the butter lovers out there - you know who you are) The boned filet mignon has got to be one of the best cut i've had in the city. We also got the half crab which was good (i like my crab simple but this one was pre-seasoned) The heirloom tomatoes salad with burrata was also very tasty. I must say I was pretty disappointed with this place. After reading Yelp reviews I expected this to be AMAZING, to me it was just okay. We had the lobster soup, crab toast (can't remember the name, but it's an appetizer), crab and surf and turf. I didn't really like the soup that much, the small crab toast was pretty good. My crab was mediocre, I've had a lot of crab in my life and this wasn't memorable at all, it tasted pretty bland in my opinion. The service was attentive, but our server didn't really come off as nice at all. It did seem like they were trying to rush us out of there, which seemed odd to me since there were only a few tables occupied in the entire restaurant. The complimentary valet is a big plus though, really came in handy. I doubt we'll come back, there's too many other places in the city to visit for us to give this place another chance. read more

Arrogant, cheesy, & terrible service. The beef tartar was overpowered by Dijon & capers. Presumably because the quality was on the low end (notice they don't mention a style or the way it was raised). We bought an $80.00 bottle of wine - not once did anyone offer to re-pour. Usually it's while asking us how we are enjoying things but that's because if they weren't bring us food they never came to check on us. Even though we were sitting in the lounge, in view of a manager, bartender, hostess, & several servers passing by. The crab was old, brown, & in edible. I informed the back waiter when he finally cleared our plates. He shook his head & said sorry but I never saw him again. Not a single person asked if we'd like something else or came to comment about the the stinky pound of paid for crab meat left on our plate. The filet was delicious- I have to note that & the bread were the two good things about the experience. After 30 mins of nothingness I had to ask the manager for our check & while doing so our server brushed shoulders with me as I stood up & he said nothing. Didn't even acknowledge I was his customer. Totally parched- our water glasses were dry & not refilled until the check was signed. I told him it would be wasting water since my coat was already on & we were about to stand up. I came here for my boyfriend's dads birthday. We basically ordered the whole menu Our order: * Surf and turf, the crab and petite filet mignon * Porterhouse, Bobo's New York style & filet mignon * Swiss chard * Yams * Portobello mushrooms * Mod Mac & cheese * Double shrimp & crab * Yellowtail carpaccio The appetizers such as the Mac and cheese and swiss chard were actually served in big portions so you can have them a la carte. All of the steaks were super juicy, too. It basically felt apart when I cut it. Delicious. I think the crab was decent but the crab legs were so skinny, I couldn't really enjoy the crab. The shrimp were also tiny little things. Unexpectedly I enjoyed the yams a lot. They were flavorful and fragrant. Our party ordered so much we had a lot of food to-go and it's too much to write about. I think if I were to return, I'd just go with the New York style. If I were in a party I'd get the carpaccio and yams to share. I would like it if they had more vegetable options besides the Swiss chard, so that I don't feel terrible about it later. Ok so I was in San Francisco memorial weekend and decided to stop by this restaurant due to a review posted in a magazine. This place sits in a nice trendy spot in the Marina area with plenty of bars and lounges within walking distance. I had made my reservations online and had no problem being seated when I arrived there. It was suggested to me to indulge in the the Costini Con Burrata witht the dungeness crab and smoked salmon. The appetizer was fantastic, much like a harmony of foods that melted in your mouth. Since I am not a huge wine drinker I asked the waitress for her help. She recommended a great wine to go with the went well as a starter, during the meal and during the dessert. The wine was in the 29 a bottle range. As for my meal I had the bone in filet mignon and it was done medium. The steak is dry aged and is soooooo good. The waitress told me it was a little red towards the bone but I loved it that way. For dessert I had the four chocolate mousse cones which where a perfect light dessert to follow a hearty meal. Overall I ended up spending about $210 including tip. So It is not an everyday meal place but is definitely worth the time to eat here. I was planning on going to Harris another steak house in SF but tried this and I am glad I did. read more

This was the best dinner of my life and yes I said my life!!! They offer free valet which was awesome, tipped the guy a couple bucks of course. Upon entering your taken back to a Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Its pretty cool the decor and vibe to the place. I made a reservation and we were on time, however the host told me that there running a little behind which was fine cuz I just got a drink at the bar. We finally got seat upstairs in the little nook. It was romantic and peaceful cuz I was with the boy. We first received there delicious garlic bread!!!! This bread is soft, just baked, with garlic pieces on top. Then we got the lobster Crostini, now I prefer Crab but got this one cuz I didn't like that the crab one had salmon on it. Let me tell you THIS LOBSTER crostini was luxury in your mouth. They didn't skimp out on the lobster either. It had red onion on it with avocado and burrata cheese. Seriously it was so fricken good!!!! Then I got the petite filet medium and the bf got the filet bone in. We both adored our steaks. Then we both got a twice baked potatoe. This was the most delectable twice baked potatoe I've ever eaten. It has chives, cream, butter, and sour cream drizzled on top. This meal was a combination of all these words: delightful, delish, distinctive, divine, enjoyable, enticing, exquisite, fit for king, good, gratifying, heavenly, luscious, lush, mellow, mouthwatering, nectarous, nice, palatable, piquant, pleasant, rare, rich, sapid, savory, scrumptious, spicy, sweet, tasteful, tasty, I will come here as much as I can. Went to dinner with my nursing school-family to catch up and reminisce! The food was awesome! The steaks were great and the crab that I had before the SF crab scare was super fresh flavorful. The shrimp weren't huge, but there was a healthy serving of them and I was able to share with everyone at the table and still have some left over....oh and they were delicious! We ordered one of each dessert and amongst us, there were all devoured. Complementary valet parking was the cherry on top of an amazing night with some of my favorite people. i don't even know where to begin. this place is so good. the ambience is gorgeous. i wanted to take a picture of every inch but needed to chill and just take it all in. super romantic for two but also really fun for a large group. drinks are strong and yummy. i ordered the filet mignon and it melted in my mouth with every bite. our group shared the sides and dessert, everything tasted wonderful. the staff was also really great and accommodating! can't wait to go back !!! read more

One of the best steaks I've ever had. I didn't even know you could dry age beef for 6 weeks, but that really makes the difference. If it's your birthday, it's a great place to get fed. HOWEVER, DEMAND A BOOTH OR EAT AT THE BAR!!! We got stuck for a bit at a table that was like eating at a shoebox. I asked for a booth and they accommodated. Made the meal much more enjoyable I tells ya. 1. Olive and garlic topped fresh baked sourdough bread loaf, with olive oil butter. Awesome but a bit hard to tear apart without getting oil on your hands 2. New York Strip, Bone In. I actually picked up and gnawed the meat off the bone after I had finished it since nobody was looking. I gotta say one of the best I've ever had. If there is a single word to summarize this place, I'll have to say: BUTTER! Overall food quality is great - Crabs seemed fresh, mussels were sweet and fat, fillet mignon was tendered and full of flavor. A special mention on the sourdough: The garlic sourdough was surprisingly pleasant - warm and toasty - even though sourdough usually is not my thing. Mussels were served on a hot iron plate with melted butter sauce on the side. You don't have to dip into butter 'cause the mussels were cooked marinated. Crab cake was impressive with noticeable amount of crab meat, not just fillers, found under the crispy skin. Crab were roasted with butter sauce that layered the outside and osmosed inside through the shell. Fillet mignon was cooked just right for medium rare. The steak with a nice texture and flavor was served with butter sauce. I do like this restaurant - however, you have to be aware of the priciness associated with a good darn steak in this place. My last word on this restaurant is that Bobo's is NOT your everyday's restaurant if you want to keep your wallet healthy and your health in great shape. read more

My boyfriend and I had an early dinner here last week just because. I've never heard of Bobo's (shocking!) but my boyfriend wanted to go here so we did. One great thing about this place is that they have valet parking for their guests so you're not driving everywhere just to look for parking which is nice. The place has two floors, I think? But downstairs was the bar and upstairs is where the dining is. It's actually small from what I remember but there's different rooms. We were seated in this awkward fabric gazebo which was kind of claustrophobic and kind of meh. The fabric was not clean and the mirror hung on the wall scared me for the most part because it kept moving.. Onto the good stuff, food.. We ordered 2 lobster soups w/bread, 2 filet mignon (1 with bone in), modern mac and cheese, and the two cheese baked potato. Everything was delicious but I wasn't really a big fan of the lobster soup. I don't like a lot of seafood (except tuna, shrimp and sometimes crab), I know.... but I decided to try it. A good steak place. But there are too many in the City. Here is what I say, and what should matter to you: 1) They pride themselves on having a "bone in" filet. I say nonesense. Get yourself edumacated and look it up if that is what's making you salivate: that's false advertising for a more "prime" cut of a T-bone or Porterhouse (aka New York Strip w/ bone in you smucks). So stop raving about this. But yes, a T-bone steak is generally juicy because it is cooked with the bone in. 2) What IS worth raving about is their wine list. You can get yourself some good wines here at somewhere closer to 2x the retail range. And they have a great wine list. THAT my friends is why you would come all the way out here to the middle of nowhere to eat. 3) Food is good, but very traditional. Service I hear is hit or miss. I had great service here. The reality was a little different, the meat was a bit rubbery and the overall taste was just quite underwhelming. I guess the expectations were quite high coming in and we were treating a steak aficionado friend for his birthday. Had better steaks, even at home. The selection of sizes is scarce. You can only choose between 8 oz filet or 20 oz + other steaks (for 62$ and up without a side). What if I want a smaller size steak which isn't a fillet? We went out to celebrate with friends, my partner and myself shared a dinner of 1 appetizer (lobster croustini), 1 steak (prime rib), 1 side (Brussels sprouts which were by the way a great side with a really nice sauce to deep the steak in it) and shared a bottle of wine with all the rest of the table. Ended up costing us 150$ even though we actually shared a one person meal. I can easily find a comparable steak for about 30$ and pan fry it at home to our enjoyment. read more

I really don't understand the high rankings for steak. I had the bone-in New York strip and I have to say it was tough and not tender. I felt like I had to really hack into it with the steak knife. We also had the mac n cheese which in all honesty needs to have a friggin' side note telling you it's really pungent with blue-cheese and fishy odors. Would not come back for steak. Gave it 2 stars because the service was great at so was the atmosphere. For steak: Go to Harris' (or Alexanders if you want a modern, trendy feel) Or, just buy a cast iron skillet and read methods online. We visited this place for a work outting and had a reservation for a party of 14 at 8:30 PM. we came 10 min early, ended up waiting an hour before being seated. I ordered a medium rare bone in filet, roughly $40. I was excited as my friend had been raving about this place's bone-in filet. The food took quite a long time to come out, but perhaps it was just a busy day. In either case, when i got my steak, it was well done - not even a smudge of pink in the center. If this was a Denny's, i suppose i would have just kept on eating, but for $40 - i want to actually enjoy my steak so i sent it back. 10 minutes later, they brought out a new steak. I cut into it and tasted a piece. To my unpleasant surprise, it was ice cold. I had the urge to spit it out, but that would have been unpleasant for everyone else around me, so i swallowed it. A horrible mistake. Anyway, i sent that piece back again, still hoping they could get it right this time. The third time, they used the same piece of steak i cut into. The plate felt hot... perhaps they just placed it in the oven. I hope so... i hope it wasn't some microwave. The steak sucked. It came back in two pieces, well done on the outside, and barely pink in the center, but it was edible, and i was hungry. The check came out and i saw that they removed my steak from the bill. I was almost mollified, though thought to myself - i would rather have paid twice as much for something i actually enjoy. Well, it turned out they charged me for 2 steaks, and the removal was just only for the 2nd charge... So i did end up paying for dinner. And continued paying the next couple of days for that piece of cold hell that i swallowed. Maybe they don't always suck, but from my experience - they're not worth the one star I'm giving them now. I would give Bobo's a 4-5 star rating if I were only rating the crab and cocktails. However Bobo's is known for good steaks and good service, which is why a 2-star rating is more appropriate. I ordered a bone-in filet cooked medium, and received a completely rare steak. To be fair, my dining partner got a fairly accurately cooked medium-rare bone-in filet. So the chef cooked at least 50% of our steaks correctly. After sending my cold-in-the-center steak back to be further cooked, it came back as a perfect medium. The service was poor. Our waitress would disappear for 30 minutes at a time, leaving us to ask other staff to retrieve her so that we could order another drink. She didn't even show up to take our dessert order; we had to chase her down for that as well. It's not a large restaurant so I have no idea why this was such an issue. The other staff was very friendly and pleasant. I'll give our waitress the benefit of the doubt--maybe she was having an off day. But this is my experience nonetheless. read more

Bobo's Streakhouse is the worst restaurant I have ever been to in my life. They did everything POSSIBLE wrong. We made reservations by phone and upon arriving were told our reservation was not in their system - and then ignored. FINALLY the manager came out himself and apologized and seated us - the only worker here that was worth ANYTHING at all. The waiter was pathetic. He seemed confused and unhappy and had no personality to speak of. Our steak came out drenched in salt and tasted horrible, which we mentioned to the waiter with a "oh, ok". COME ON! On top of all this the price was rediculous. Its like $80 a person to eat here. WOULD NEVER GO BACK and highly recommend anyone else to not give this place your business. By the way this is not a one time fluke - I work at a nearby hotel and got many complaints about this place. I went before I knew...and boy I wish I did. I want my money back. Update 4/1/12: This place seems to be a hit or miss. I should know from the nearby hotel experience I used to work at. Some people would swear by this place and even fly in and stay at the hotel JUST to go to Bobo's. Other guests would come back ranting about Bobo's (as was my experience). I still stand by my 1 star because that is the experience I had, but I think the people leaving 5 stars probably really had a 5 star experience. Divine. This place is Divine. My dining companion surprised me with a meal here last night. Upon entering I wasn't sure what to expect, I've driven past this place for years and expected to see a normal steakhouse inside, boy was I amazed and delighted by the decor! I love the Red walls with mish-mash and BEAUTIFUL decorations, it's playful and warm. We sat near the bar, without a reservation at around 7PM. We ordered drinks and my dining companion handled all the ordering in Spanish so I had no idea what was coming (what fun!). Iron-Skillet Mussels & Shrimp ... YUM. When they brought out this steaming delight I was grinning Ear to Ear and upon first bite I think I died and went to heaven. The butter with lemon and garlic was a soft addition to the tender flavor of the mussel. Whatever they use to cook them in is also amazing (we tried to guess and came up with Worcestershire or Soy Sauce), I rather enjoyed dipping their AMAZING Garlic Bread on the iron skillet to soak up that crazy amazing flavor. Yellowtail Carpaccia ... WOW. They brought out a very beautiful dish, thinly cut yellowtail with diced chilies and minced chives in an amazing Ponzu Olive Oil.. MmmHmmm, If I didn't die eating the Iron Skillet I surely did with the yellowtail. This was amazing and complimented my slightly sweet drink very well. The service was wonderful, FRIENDLY and polite staff, attentive even on a really busy evening (picked up around 8, the place was packed) I really liked the fact that the bar seating near the window had hooks on the walls to put my purse, very nice and thoughtful touch. They have free Valet Parking, defiantly take advantage of this as parking can be hassle. My biggest regret... that I didn't take photos of our dishes I was so enthralled with the amazing smells, decor and.. ok yea maybe my dining companion, that I completely forgot.. ah well, a good excuse to return! Bobo's, you've let me down. Sure, your steaks were some of the best I've ever had, but a girl cannot live (and dine) on steak alone. Taking everything else into consideration, I was underwhelmed. On top of that the fish was drenched with way too much olive oil. For the sides we got the "modern" mac & cheese (what makes it modern? I have no idea), twice-baked potato, and baked yam. Though cooking the bone-in new york and petit filet separately ensured both cuts were cooked properly, it took away from the wow-factor of a porterhouse. Best of all was the slightly nutty flavour from the butter - it was the most amazing steak butter I've ever had! I'll get to the point, the steak is delicious. Get the filet mignon bone-in and you wont' regret it. The dry-aging business adds a lot of flavor so it doesn't taste like you're eating semi-raw cow, it's semi-raw cow with seasoning! It's damn pricey though, can't they throw in some sides for that much? The atmosphere is campy and the side dishes are ok (you gotta pay extra for these). Stick with the semi-raw cow with seasonings and you'll be just fine. read more

I ordered the surf-and-turf (crab legs with filet mignon) with sides of sweet potato. The main dishes are just under $20 and sides are about $8 each. The portions are on the slightly small side, but the excellent rich food seems to make up for it. Also my waitress was very pleasant and helpful. On the neg, the two-person tables were a bit too small. Otherwise solid, though pricey. Definitely a good place to take out-of-town steak lovers for their masters in steakology. Behind my table, one of the waiters had accidentally spilled red wine over the customer's steak. The waiter offered to redo his steak, but the customer claimed that he liked it that way. Anywhere that serves a bone-in filet mignon, I'm a huge fan of. So it definitely didn't take much for me to like this place. It also doesn't hurt that their steak was, indeed, super delicious either! This was recommended to us by a friend who raved about how awesome the steak he had there was. I've been on Lombard street so many times, but honestly never really noticed Bobo's. Only did we decided to look this place up online and saw a picture of the outside did it dawn on me that I've driven by it so many times! We, of course, got the bone-in filet mignon and it was all it was hyped up to be. Cooked perfectly to my desired doneness, it was super tasty. We had the twice-baked potato and sauteed cauliflower as sides and they were good too. They have a nice bar too. It was hopping on the night we dined there - mostly business people after work. They were super amusing though. There's nothing better than a bunch of business people unwinding after work, drinking and loudly cracking jokes. I don't think I've spent so much time at dinner laughing at the random stuff people were talking about the table over. mmmmm..... bone-in filet mignon... need I say more... I have been hooked on bobo's for about two years now. Have had consistently great service, and even better food - - minus the one time I went there and they were out of the bone-in :( when you get there make sure to ask if they have it, and if not... walk on... cuz you gotta get the bone-in... FACT: I have NEVER had to use a knife on my filet there.... yep.... that's how filet mignon is supposed to be.... Now you know.... I was in town for the weekend and hunting for something to do with my ex (aside from the obvious) so as we drove around the city, the black and red valet sign caught my eye. We drove up in his Grand National and headed in totally unprepared. He was in a sweatshirt and jeans and I was similarly sartorial and we were both reservationless. The maitre di would have none of that and promptly accomodated us with a great table in the bar by the window. The food was amazing. This was truly the best steak I've ever had in my life. The atmosphere was joyful and romantic, and also very fun. The service was impeccable and the waitstaff was were incredibly, incredibly delightful. I've been recommending it to all of my friends and we will definately be back and next time we'll get reservations! I took my lady here for valentine's a little while ago. It was excellent. Here's why: 1. Filet Mignon, BONE-IN 2. The crab is so good you want to reorder it three times before the steak arrives. It is sweet and good and whatever is on the shell is sticky and delicious. 3. On a valentines day, we got an awesome booth with a view of the street (granted it's Lombard). 4. The service was top notch, especially since I look like I'm 15 and rarely get the respect I would like at restaurants such as this. 5. I like steak, and lots of it, so I ordered the porterhouse (big boys only). It was perfect. If I could afford to eat here on a daily basis, I would. Nothing would ever get old. Perfect for a date, for a group of friends, for taking Dad out and buying him dinner for the first time, or just going in by yourself and sitting down to a feast, alone. read more

Last night (Thurs, June 5th) was my dad's birthday. Per his request for a good piece of meat, I decided to call my friend Adam for advice. Adam knows his quality meats and he immediately recommended Bobquivari's (Bobo's). So I call and make a reservation for 7pm hoping that my piss poor planning (its 5:50pm when I call) won't result in a "sorry, we have no reservations for tonight" reply. The hostess who answers is nice. She takes my name and confirms the 7pm reservation. Afterward, I pull up Bobo's review on yelp and notice that there is complimentary valet (nice). I read a couple of reviews and then start getting ready. We get there at 6:50pm, valet the car, and I ask the hostess if we can get a nice booth since it's my dad's bday. After a quick search she tells me she can help and leads us to the 3rd floor where we are seated at a booth looking out on Lombard Street (nice). We open our menus, place our orders, and sip a nice merlot while awaiting our food. My mom hates meat so she orders the double mussels and crab. The rest of us order the bone-in filet mignon with the twice baked potato, portobello mushrooms, and crab cakes as sides. Her seafood is first to arrive and all of us are shocked at the portion size which amounts to a 20 ' x 12' sizzling platter piled high with at least 60 mussels and 1/2 a crab!! Immediately afterward our dry aged filets are served and the conversation ends as we arm ourselves with forks and knives to get down to business. The filets are delicious- with a great flavor reminiscent of a steak I had in Florence. The mussels are a bit dry but very tasty. The crab has an excellent flavor. The crabcakes....wow (perfectly crispy on the outside and moist inside). The twice baked potato seems to be a hybrid of a baked potato and mashed potatoes (yum!). The portobello mushrooms are fresh tasting and not too salty. Overall, we got more than we had expected and are already planning our next birthday dinner!! read more
