Although a friend recommended this place I am very disappointed. It took them four different times before they ordered the right transmission for my car. They called (two weeks later) for me to pick it up, but when I got there they said they cut a wire by accident and it would be two more days. When I returned they damaged my driver side door when they dropped it from the risers. Again another delay as they had to send it to a body shop. When I finally did get my car the door still didn't sound right, and the check engine light was on!! Another body shop was able to adjust the door properly, and we are still working on the engine light. The owner gave me 10% off, but after they had my car 2 1/2 weeks I should have just paid the little extra to have the dealer do it. read more

Jason is such a nice guy and for the longest time I don't know why I thought his name was Bob but I kept calling him Bob and he never corrected me. I only realized this when I brought my my mother here who knows him and she heard me call him Bob, she had no hesitation to correct me. His friend the lady at the front desk is also really sweet and his son helps out around the shop too. He's a chill homie. I love how this is a local family business. I brought my Mercedes Benz for a tire change and a oil change. My tires were all worn out and cracked on the side. The mechanic recommended me Goodyear Tires and Kuho Tires because they are popular and good for my vehicle. They are stable and the tires look really really good. More importantly, the mileage on the tires will last. I ended up getting the all season tires for Goodyear. He did 2 Tires for me for $260 with installing and balancing the tires. For the oil change, he was able to do it for $85.00 with Full Synthetic oil too! Plus, I got a 10% off labor discount because my bill exceeded $250.00. I saved money and found a new place to bring in my car. They did a great job, provided excellent service and was professional throughout the work. Awesome service! This auto shop is by far my favorite! I just moved to SF and wasn't too sure of where to get an oil change, a LEGIT oil change. I went through the reviews and saw nothing but great! I have a Mini Cooper so I wanted to make sure I was getting the right oil and at the right place. I got full synthetic, so it was more on the pricey side, but a lot less than what I'm used to paying. Me and my family have been to Bob's Auto Service for a very well 10 years now. The first time I went was for an engine problem on my 05 Nissan Altima. Bob's is very good at keeping me informed about what is going on with my vehicle when I bring it in and always calls me if I needed to do any maintainence like Oil changes, Brakes, Transmission oil etc. For a few months now, I had an issue with my car and the check engine light came on. At first, they did the diagnostics with my vehicle but no codes were showing up. They rechecked everything to make sure everything was working with my vehicles computer and to make sure it was functioning properly to pull the codes up. Soon enough, they narrowed the codes down to 4 codes; P2138, P1610, P1148 & P1240. All which were fixed at a very very reasonable cost. Soon after it was done, the check engine light was gone and I felt so happy knowing I don't have to spend anymore money on this car. In the end, I had to replace my tires on another vehicle that I owned (2013 Honda CRV). I wanted a new set of different tires that I've had in mind but I've been thinking to myself that I should just use the same branded tires I've always used forever now. There was a set available but sadly it was discontinued and won't be available anymore. However, Bob's did provide me with a list of tires that were available for my car with the installation and total pricings. I checked it out and decided to get the Michelin tires instead just because they look really nice. Seriously, what more can I ask? They're always to the rescue when I need help with my vehicle. This place is great! They are life savers for my car! A couple weeks back while I was driving in the parking lot, my driver side door wouldn't open. I was super mad because I just bought this car not long ago. I used my phone to see the nearest auto repair shop and saw the great reviews for Bob's Auto Service so I decided to bring my car there. They determined that the wiring was bad and even showed me which part was broken and which needed to be fixed. They even showed me how the wiring process works. The whole process was easy because they were very communicative throughout the whole process and knew exactly what needed to be done, and when I would be getting it back. I've always gone to Bob's for my smog certificate, but my front passenger side got in an accident and it was sticking out all over. I thought, "Why not try Bob's?", and I am glad I did. I didn't even notice a sharp edge was hitting the tire until Jason, the mechanic, pointed it out to me. A real danger. They must have a checklist they go through, because although I get regular service checks, they noticed a front light was out and I needed an oil change. The results were remarkable. Christine, the customer service agent, goes out of her way to keep you posted as to progress. I had to leave it just one night; given the damage, I thought it would take 4-5 days. Don't be fooled by the Zip Cars in the lot or the slighly unkempt look of the place. And did I mention the price? Less than half of what I was quoted at a much larger body shop. read more

My car was overheating. Had to pull over to the side of the road because I was seeing smoke out of the hood. I've had this problem before and had an idea of what it was, the coolant and a broken hose. When I went there to Bob's they said they would check it. They called me later with a diagnosis saying that it was a sensor thermostat in transmission fluid. Now I have the mind of an engineer, and so in my mind I'm thinking that these are just symptoms of a deeper issue. So when they told me that, I realized they didn't have the ability to find the real cause of the problem. And they charged me $300 total for that. Brought in my Audi for an inspection because my brakes were making heavy loud noises. The mechanic took the brakes out and showed me how low the brakes are and how they are almost gone. I'm not that surprised since my son is the person that's mostly driving the car. Thankfully, the mechanic showed me how bad the brakes were or else I would have never known. The mechanic was able to install new Bosch brakes and was able to replace them within a couple of hours before my lunch was over. I own a 2009 Lexus ES350. I brought my car the dealer to get it diagnosed because the check engine light appeared while driving at Brisbane. The dealer found out that my Intake Manifold Gasket needed to be replaced. The dealer offered to do it for $2,000. What am I? An ATM? I kept asking the mechanics at the dealer to give me a lower price. They offered to lower it to $1,500. They kept changing their stories and even offered me more services that I did not need. At this point, I'm starting to feel ripped off at the dealers. Got my phone out and started calling around auto repair places to see who is cheaper and can offer the service the dealer described. This place, Bobs Auto Service was one of them. They gave me the lowest price of all the other places I've called upon. They were able to do it for $400.00 even. After agreeing to the price, I dropped off my car in half an hour and picked it up before they were closing. They even saw that my back brake light bulb was dead and even replaced it for me for free. All I can say about this auto repair place is that they're honest, friendly, professional and did a great job on replacing the intake manifold! This review is long overdue. Anyways.. continuing on. I've been working with Bobs for around 5 years now for everything from Brakes to Oil Changes to Engines and to even a Transmission replacement on my old 2001 Toyota Tacoma. But this time, my 2013 Ford E-250 needed to replace the Engine Oil Pump. I brought my car to Bobs the next day to get a estimate of how much it will cost to replace it. The mechanic, Jason, gave me an estimate of $1,950 to replace the Engine Oil Pump. I agreed to the job and dropped off my car for 2 days. During those whole 2 days, they would keep me informed of the progress on my vehicle. I came back after 2 days at around 5pm. And guess what? They were almost done! The mechanic told me to give them 15 more minutes to make sure it is going smooth and that everything is running as it should. After replacing the oil pump, my Ford is now back on the road. And the most important part is that their prices are fair, their customer service is the best and the mechanics are super friendly and knowledgeable. But the very most important part is that every time when I needed them, they were always there for me. Even during the busiest times, they were always there to take care of me and my vehicle. They were here for me when I needed someone to replace the driver side window! I called them at 3pm on a busy afternoon. My window needed to be replaced because someone broke into my window in the afternoon and literally stole a $20.00 USB port and cable. Who ever did this must think that breaking into my window and stealing a $20.00 USB port and charger was worth something to them. Anyways continuing on! I called them up, gave them my VIN # and they told me how much it was to replace the driver side window for my Hyundai Sonata. They told me it would be around $320 to replace the glass window and that it would be ready before 6pm. Perfect, I shall come back before 6pm. When I came at 5:45, they were cleaning up the broken glass that was on the mat in my car. The women said the mechanic had finished replacing my window and is cleaning up the old broken glasses that the person who broke into my car carelessly left behind. After the job was completed, I paid my bill and left happily and relieved that my window was replaced. Next time, I'm not leaving anything plugged into my car anymore. Especially the USB port and chargers. My experience with them was the best. They took care of me and my car, gave me a good price and was there for me when I needed them even though they were busy. Thank you Bob's for the professional work that you have done with my BMW. I've been going to the SF BMW dealership for a very long time now for all the services I've needed done from oil changes to 30K services. However, I really don't want to bring it back to them because of one thing. Expensive. However, I am very scared when it comes to auto repairs. I have no idea what needs to be done and I certainly don't want a huge bill with things that don't need to be done. I really needed to replace my brake pads and rotors for my car. My friend, Sebastian, recommended me to Bob's Auto Service because he's been with them for almost 8+ years. So I said to myself, why not give them a try? Called them at 10am and they said they were completely booked, but they managed to still squeeze me in because they knew I needed this service done as soon as possible. I dropped off my car at 11:30 and they said it will be done before 1:00. However, I work until 6:00pm so I asked if I can pick up my car at 6:30. They said that is fine and said they will wait for me until 6:30. They close at 6 so I called Sebastian to pick me up from my work place as soon as possible because I don't want them waiting when they close at 6. Upon arrival, the manager told me that the back brake light was dead. In my mind, I was hoping this would cost less than $50.00. Before I can say anything, he said he replaced it for me for free! I just avoided a fix it ticket! I guess I am very lucky that my friend recommemded me here. The level of customer service and professionalism is what I appreciated the most. I found a new mechanic! Whatever you do, don't go in there for an oil change unless you know your way around a car and have a really strong backbone. The entire experience is just a constant barrage of trying to sell me other stuff and arguing with me when I say no. Add to that they managed to drip oil all over the engine so that once the motor heated up by the time I got home I could smell all the oil burning off the hot manifold. Which makes me think, I'd better go down to my garage and check to see if they got the oil level right, at least. For a solid experience with your regular oil change, without all the pushy overselling of services, go to Jiffy Lube on Van Ness. I'll be going back there from now on. Pros: It was cheap.
